I'm thrilled to enjoy dim sum in a calm setting in Brooklyn. The dim sum was 100% authentic and everything I had tasted juicy and good! I had: - Shumai (4pc) - Panfried chive shrimp dumplings (4pc) - Pork soup dumplings (4pc) - Roast pork rice roll (3 cut into 6) All 4 were great with my ultimate favorite being the roast pork rice roll - so silky thin and couldn't get enough. Its a small place so reservations are recommended, and it looks like there is a nice backroom for a party of 10. Waiters were friendly and attentive. IG: Jubes111 YouTube: Jujubi Fam

It's now possible to enjoy delicious Dim Sum in Boerum Hill thanks to Ming Mun. You heard right. I didn't mention going to Chinatown. A first time visit ramped up expectations due to eating/enjoying Dim Sum for as long as I could remember and being picky. I've been to some top notch spots in Chinatown so the bar was set high. Staff were very hospitable and service was attentive. We were intrigued with the menu and the diversity of selections. We started off with a pot of Jasmine tea which accompanied our selections well. An automatic refill of hot water was offered once we finished the first round. We ordered Shrimp Rice roll (and requested the elimination of the soy sauce drizzle on top), Shrimp and Chive Dumpling, Chinese Greens (with a side of white rice). I liked them all very much and it was a Dim Sum feast without going to Chinatown. The Shrimp Rice Roll was different from what I remembered having in the past. Theirs was a little thicker and not the silky texture from what I was accustomed to having. Still, it was good. The Shrimp with Chives Dim Sum was excellent. Lightly pan fried with a delicious filling. I only wished the green food color wasn't added. My favorite was the Chinese Greens (Broccoli). Prepared crisp/tender with Oyster Sauce, this dish was hands down one of the best vegetable solo mains I've had at Chinese restaurants recently. The portion size for all selections were just right. The quantity of Dim Sum dumplings are usually 3 or 4 pieces. I'm already eager to return and mentally selecting what to have next time. I'd love to see an expansion of the menu to include more authentic (and less Chinese American) dishes. BTW, I mean this in a positive way. I am not of Chinese heritage myself but I happen to love the cuisine very much and authenticity is where it's at. Overall, I loved my experience at Ming Mun and am ecstatic it is walking distance for when I want a Dim Sum fix. Entire staff was super nice. This little gem is a keeper in my book.

There aren't many Chinese restaurants in the neighborhood, so Ming Mun is a nice welcome. It has that old school Chinese restaurant ambiance, but I kind of wished they kept the modern decor from the previous Dimmer and Simmer. With that said, the food is truly authentic though pricier than you'll find in Chinatown due to the location. The fiancé and I came by for dinner and it's pretty cool that you can order dim sum any time of the day. We started off with the pot of Jasmine Tea ($10). This is quite pricey between two people, but if you have more than 4 people, it's worth it. For food, we ordered the Beef Rice Roll ($8.50), Shanghai Juicy Pork Dumpling ($7.50), Stew Beef Noodle Soup ($16.95), and General Tso's Chicken ($18.95). The dim sum dishes were tasty, but very pricey when I can get it for a fraction of the price in Chinatown. The rice roll was fresh and silky, but way too slippery to eat even for someone who grew up using chopsticks. I liked the pork dumplings too, but also very pricey for only 4 pieces. As for our main dishes, these were much larger portions. We ended up mostly eating the chicken and I got to take the noodle home. Personally, I really enjoyed the noodle soup which tasted homey. Overall, solid Chinese restaurant for my cravings whenever I don't want to venture out to Chinatown. They also have some good lunch specials too.

Spotlessly clean, friendly service, excellent dim sum, ultra fresh vegetables, great tea service, and reasonable prices. Definitely go before this new place is discovered.

If you, like me, love dimsum and wish there were great options in more neighborhoods, then I highly, highly recommend you check out Ming Mun on Smith St! This is a small, calm restaurant with a full dimsum menu, and I would totally bring my kids there. I went recently for the first time and enjoyed everything I ordered: har gow, shrimp and chive dumplings, turnip cakes, szechuan wontons, and a big heaping pile of snow pea shoots with garlic. BEST turnip cakes I've ever had, and I love turnip cakes. They set a new standard. They tasted homemade, with long tendrils of daikon throughout. I only wish I'd gone with a bigger group so we could have ordered more! I really want this place to stick around and can't wait to go back!

It was very busy on Christmas, but very tasty and inexpensive. They ran out of rice though. Great dumplings.

We shared a big table, which added to the authentic feel of the place. The staff were nice. The carts were copious. They serve the greatest hits. The preparation is a bit different from other dim sum restaurants in the area. This just highlighted the deliciousness of the dishes. We worked our way through the greatest hits. Standouts were the clams in black bean sauce and pork chops. Has fried tofu skins filled with ground shrimp for the first time. The food was uniformly excellent. A great find, hiding in plain sight. The bathroom was passable, but definitely could be better. The staff were to the point and did their jobs well. The Beijing pork chop was fried well and had great flavor. My only gripe was that there were some small end pieces. I wish we had some bigger pieces of meat. The fried tofu was done well. They put some corn starch underneath each piece of shrimp so the shrimp will stay on top. It was not always cook through, so that was unpleasant. The snow pea shots were cooked well and it was a massive portion. We also have pan fried noodles with seafood. The portions were huge and we have leftovers for the next day. With tip it was around $125, which is a great deal for this meal.

The most recent time, I was here for their dim sum brunch, which is either $36 for AYCE plus $2 for tea, or they price each thing individually. It was a bit annoying that the tea was not included, but at least both the Oolong and Chrysanthemum teas were good quality and readily filled. Service in general was pretty fast and frequently checked on our large semi- private table to see if we needed anything else to order or more tea. The dim sum selection is a bit smaller than many of the traditional dim sum spots, but the overall quality was excellent, with a couple of definite highlights and some more unique dishes such as dumplings with pickled shrimp, crawfish, or Taizhou rice along with Ningbo wontons. In general, I would say that the wrappers were properly thin and everything was filled generously. The aforementioned Pickled Pepper Shrimp Dumplings were one of the highlights. The slightly spicy and sour pickles made it taste very light and paired nicely with the plump shrimp. In terms of other shrimp dim sum, their version of Har Gow/Crystal Shrimp Dumplings included a little bit of sweet crab for an extra touch. It was also tasty. I also liked the Ningbo wontons, filled with a variety of ingredients including minced pork, dried shrimp, yard long beans, pickled vegetables, bamboo shoots, and others. It had a wonderful mix of textures with some interesting crunchy notes. Another unique option mentioned is their Crawfish Dumplings, which are very noticeable compared to the other dumplings due to their bright red color. I appreciated the spiciness but found these a tad fishy with a thicker wrapper than most, but others loved these and ordered more. For more standard dumplings, their Xiao Long Bao/XLB were pretty good, and they had a tasty version of Sticky Rice Pork Siu Mai. The Baked Pork Buns were good as they were not too sticky sweet. Finally, there was a decent version of Pork Dumplings in Chili Oil. Non-dumpling highlights included their excellent turnip cakes along with steamed spare ribs, chicken feet, and a particularly tasty version of steamed beef tripe with satay sauce. I would skip the Beef Short Ribs With Black Pepper, which had good flavor but was way too chewy. I know someone else ordered the spring rolls, but I don't remember trying them. They also apparently now have a Ningbo speciality called Shi Bing Tong, but I don't remember ordering it. Someone else got their simple and tasty porridge/congee, only available traditionally with pork and century eggs, and enjoyed it. I tried a bit, and it was indeed good. Desserts included a tasty Crispy Durian Pastry, alright Sesame Balls, a good Pineapple Bun/Bolo Bao, and Custard Buns, which everyone loved, but they had a cuttlefish ink shine, so I couldn't try them. This is a fantastic, reasonably priced AYCE Dim Sum. Would recommend it if they still offer this deal.

The ambiance is calm and cozy -- definitely a good spot whether you're grabbing a couple drinks, a quick bite, or sitting down for a full dinner. I ordered the Joker roll, and that's where things started to click for me with sushi. The tuna and avocado paired with the spicy red sauce really made it stand out -- honestly tasted great and something I'd get again. Also had the Mongolian steak with rice, which was another highlight. Presentation was fire -- it comes out still heating on a hot platter, which makes the whole experience feel elevated. Flavor matched the presentation too. Service was solid overall, no real issues there. The only downside was with a deal they were advertising ("3 for $33"). It was shown on their website and even posted outside the restaurant, which was actually one of the main reasons we chose the spot. When we tried to use it, we were told they weren't honoring it that night and that the deal had been causing them to lose money. I understand adjusting pricing if something isn't working, but if that's the case, the promotion should be removed or clearly communicated ahead of time. Having it still advertised and then not honoring it was frustrating and took away from the experience. Overall: good food, nice vibe, and a solid option in Brooklyn -- just make sure to double-check any deals before going.
