I had not been here in many many years. I'm so glad I finally made it back! We grabbed takeout on a Friday night, but I would love to come and sit on the patio and enjoy soon. Everything was outstanding. The burgers are huge, well seasoned beef, and so tasty. They don't skimp you on the toppings either. The fries were amazing - how could they not be?! Look at that cheese and bacon. Our order was ready fast so parking on the street was easy this time. This area gets packed so be prepared to walk a little. We will be back ASAP!

Emma keys has NEVER let me down. Went in last week for a burger and decided on a double Hog Wild burger. To my surprise the double wasnt just an extra patty but a full set up of toppings as well. As you can see from the picture this burger is HUGE! Our food was ready at the stated time and the service was great as always! Emma Keys has a lifetime customer in me.

Parking sucks ass but the food is really good! Everything is cooked to order so be prepared to wait. It's really small and charming inside but they have plenty of seating outside! The staff is nice and their menu isn't overwhelming. They have burgers, sammies and hotdogs. We tried their burgers, fries and hotdogs. Everything was tasty just wish they offered combos but you have to purchase everything separately

This place was very cool. Love the cool picnic table vibes and when we went there was live music. I did not give full stars because their burgers are not as big as they used to be and it took quite a long time to get our food and even order. But it was still a fun experience I would go back for sure. I ultimately was only able to snap a picture, not of my burger but of their pulled pork sandwich with homemade Mac and cheese, that was outstanding!!! Hot, and melt in your mouth good!

First time visiting Emma Keys since the new ownership. I love the vibe and options for food. I still miss the breakfast they used to have on the menu. But everything else is great! I love the selection of homemade sauces. I ordered the Korean burger and seasoned fries. Both were amazing! I will definitely be back!

Found this place late at night after a concert nearby and couldn't be happier with the experience! Even months later, we still talk about how good the food was and how hardworking the staff were that night. I even considered contacting their management to let them know how outstanding their employees were that night, but I didn't catch their names. So I hope this gets back to them somehow. This would've been September 20th, if I'm remembering correctly. Anyway, we were pleasantly surprised to find a place open so late. And very grateful to have something other than the typical chains to eat at that hour. It's a small place with only two people running the show that night but they put in work! Not long after we arrived a larger group showed up and they were slammed. But the two workers kept grinding and turned out some really great food. The guy on the grill really put together some magic. I had probably one of the best hot dogs of my life and I'm not even a big fan of hot dogs. Something about hearing mac and cheese and potato chips on one really caught my eye though. I blame it being nearly 2 am lol. My husband ordered something with BBQ on it but they were out and offered to make him a chopped cheese in the style of the item he ordered. It was phenomenal! They really should put it on the menu. The fries were also cooked to perfection. All in all, it was better than we could ever imagine. I wish we had a place like this near us! We were sad to find out the late hours are only on weekends when our last few Greensboro concerts have been during the week. But you best believe the next time we're in town and they're open, we'll be there!

Heck, I really wanted to like Emma Keys but simply cannot. The employees were GREAT and would be a 5 star crew. However, the food was simply not good. The burgers lacked flavor, the chili did not have any discernible meat flavor, the onion rings were too heavily breaded and, as a result, held a great deal of grease. Also, the restaurant seems tired and looks as if it suffers from deferred maintenance. There was an odd smell that was prevalent and strong inside the restaurant and the outside needed a good clean up. It is a great location, wonderful concept and should be great...but it isn't. I will not be going back.

Really good burgers, fries, and onion rings! Loved that they toasted both sides of the burger buns, too! The place is very small, but plenty of tables to eat outside. It's very cute, and service was friendly. We will be back!

Food: A small establishment that does burgers with big flavor! The only disclaimer is that the burgers are cooked medium well by default. I really enjoyed the El Diablo Burger and Sweet Potato Fries. I had my burger cooked at medium and they hit it right on the nail. The patty was seasoned well and the remaining burger components were very fresh. The sweet potato fries came out very crispy and were also seasoned perfectly. Service: Bare bones service where they take your order and call your number, but that is expected. Ambiance: the place is very small and almost dive like with the small casual interior and outdoor seating. Parking is a little tough, but I highly recommend this place if you're looking for a good burger in the area.

When I was growing up, we ate meat all the time, and in all kinds of varieties. I remember many meals of kosher roast beef and pot roast made by my grandma. Mom made a great meatloaf with a hard boiled egg in the middle that me and my brothers fought over! We had spaghetti and meatballs, cold cuts like salami and bologna, and when things got a little better at home, lots of steak! I don't know why I have gravitated away from beef as an adult. Not sure if it's because I had so much of it as a child, learning that it's high in calories and fat or that it's very expensive. But, for whatever reason, I rarely have it anymore. So, when Sally and I decided to have lunch, and I wanted to try a new restaurant, and I know how much she loves hamburgers, I suggested Emma Keys and she was ready to go! The place is very close to UNCG so I know the area well. I quite often go to that spot for Fishbones, so it was fun to try something else. There was no available on-site parking, but we easily parked a block away. We burned off at least 10 calories walking over which justified what I was about to eat! LOL The place is very cute and simple and has an old fashioned feel to it, as if it hasn't been renovated in years and years. But I mean that in a charming way. Lots of outdoor seating, and if it wasn't so hot that would have been fun, but we chose to eat indoors. The menu was not overwhelming which I appreciated. I immediately zoomed in on the hamburger with swiss cheese and mushrooms and Sally immediately gravitated towards what we call the Carolina Burger. She ordered fries and I ordered a large onion ring! We both worked out that morning and we didn't care about calories! They have a fountain for your drinking pleasure and I must say, that lunch was delicious. Rings was massive and the hamburger was extremely flavorful and chock full of good stuff. As much as I love onion rings, I could not finish that full portion and took the rest home. Sally seemed to enjoy her hamburger too. The crowd kept coming in while we were eating and lots of takeout as well. I liked this place. Brought back memories of graduate school. It had a nice neighborhood feel to it, and the food was reasonably priced and really, really good. I would highly recommend Emma Keys for a burger and onion rings. You can choose one of their specialty burgers which I did or you can build your own, and with the list of add-ons, that might be fun to try the next time I'm coming back... And I will!

I've been dying to try Emma Keys for some time now and when my birthday rolled around, I knew where I wanted my friends and I to meet. I never got to try Emma Keys under the old ownership but no worries whatsoever, these guys who've owned the place for a year now are doing things RIGHT! This is a fast casual spot meaning you order at the counter, they give you a number, and you either sit at the few tables inside or at a picnic table outside on their patio and they bring your food to you. The new outdoor space is so nice, that's where we ended up sitting on a beautiful day. The food was everything I thought it would be and more. The pimento cheese burger on Texas toast was drippy, buttery goodness. There is no lack of toppings on this monster of a burger. I also tried their hot dog with chili and cheese. I love that their chili has chunks of meat in it making it hearty. For sides I got sweet potato fries with honey mustard for dipping and Mac and cheese. Both perfect sides to go with a burger. I can't wait to come back and try more of their menu, I'm already recruiting family members to come with!

A good local spot for burgers. It's a fairly small location so there is some indoor and some outdoor seating available, but it is limited. We were able to order our food very quickly at the counter and find a seat inside. The kitchen is open so you can watch them make all the food while you wait. They're very friendly and were able to take orders/move the line very quickly. We opted to order one of the burgers from the menu rather than building our own. We were informed that the burgers are served medium well unless otherwise requested. The El Diablo was not as spicy as expected based off of the name, but was still packed with flavor. The burger was cooked perfectly to the requested medium and they were very generous with the toppings that they put on the burger. We also ordered a side of sweet potato fries with the burger. They were freshly fried and perfectly crispy.

Came here recently and it was so good that I had to come back! And I got the same thing. It was just so good! And just as good the second time around. Came here with family for Father's Day weekend and we sat outside on the patio. The food was amazing and the staff were friendly and helpful! The only downside is finding parking but it's so worth it

I used to eat here often during my time at UNCG . I LVE this place! It's small on the inside but the taste of the food is HUGE!!!!! Every time I have ate here the food is always delicious and the wait is NOT LONG AT ALL! Most important whoever is working always friendly, kind and respectful! Try them! Oh, Lindley Park restaurants. I live on Walker and I would love for one of these places to be 4-stars or better. But I haven't found one yet. After a few months of living a block or so away, we finally went to EK's on a random Tuesday night. I had heard good things and I was just disappointed. I have had good burgers in this town (Hops, anyone?) and EK's falls short. We shared a basket of regular size fries (fries are good-the highlight of the meal), but they delivered the fries about 15 min before the burgers so of course we ate those first. Finally the burgers arrived and I was anticipating my guacamole, sautéed onion and provolone topped goodness. And it was just Meh. The bread was some horrible Costco bun and the meat was falling apart and barely represented a burger. My husbands burger actually was a bit more synthesized and tasty...but still. If you are going to capitalize on Burgers, at last jazz it up and make them excellent. Make (or buy) good buns. Make real toppings (i.e. no fake guac, please). Make the outdoor seating more comfortable, do a little decorating. It really does make a difference. read more

My wife and I just made our second lunchtime trip to Emma Key's. It's a terrific place for burgers and fries. Burgers are cooked to order on a grill. There are several choices of combo toppings or you can order a simple hamburger or cheeseburger and add the fresh toppings of your choice. The menu also features other grill items--hot dogs, grilled cheese sandwiches, veggie burgers--fried items, and salads. We were really impressed by the burgers. They were fresh, thoroughly cooked, but still moist without being drippy. The buns were also a treat. The setting is very small, especially in winter when the outside seating isn't an option. There were about a dozen patrons in the restaurant when we were there, and they nearly filled the space. The prices were comparable to Five Guys, though the menu was larger and the burgers at Emma Key's were better. The service was uneven. Although there was a lull when we ordered, our fries and burgers didn't arrive for a while. However, some other folks who came in later seemed to get served in a reasonable amount of time. read more

Best Burger spot in town, that is saying something with how loaded the Greensboro market is with Burger joints. Parking is sparse as street parking is all that is available, neighborhood is great as you can jump from Fishbones, Sticks & Stones, Lindsey Park Filling Station, & many more. I highly recommend this over the overpriced Revolution Burger & Nationally renowned Hops. My Burger of choice was the El Diablo Burger wChili- phenomenal flavor with great fresh toppings- their Chili is is perfectly seasoned. $7.50 For a side my wife and I split the Willie Fries- very large portion that we had to take 75% of the order to go. Plentiful Chilli and Cheese with Fresh Jalapeños mixed in. $6.95 Options at this place are never ending as you can substitute Turkey burger/Veggie/Vegan options. I will be trying some of the breakfast options at some point. As well as working through the menu to try everything they have. read more

I'm a vegetarian so I can't comment on the quality of their meat. The veggie burger was not very good, and there's almost no seating in the place and it just always feels very crowded, even when it's not. It's also kinda pricey. However I give it three stars because the milkshakes and the root beer floats are both delicious! And the fries, both regular and sweet potato, are delicious. The cheese fries are some of the best I've ever had. read more

I had been told by a friend that anytime I am either in Greensboro or passing though I needed to stop at Emma Key's and I would not be disappointed. Well just so happened I had a work event and made it a point to stop by and grab some lunch. I tried the Pattie Melt burger, Reuben Dog, and Two Way Fries and OMG was all of that AMAZING!! There was so much flavor in the burger and the hot dog was amazing I would never have thought to put those ingredients on a hot dog but man was it good. The fries were great as well; I could obviously not finish it all because it was just so much food for a good price. They seem to have a lot of different options and variety for everyone. I went at an office time between lunch and dinner so the service was quick and there was lots of seating. I could see with the location and reputation this place has that lunch and dinner rushes there could be an issue with seating. Parking is a little difficult because of the location but that is the only issue I have. I will definitely be making trips to Greensboro and making it a point to stop by for a meal. read more

Our neighborhood had a social at Emma Key's. This is a cute restaurant. Good for families and friends to get together. We enjoyed barbecue, chicken, cole slaw and macaroni and cheese. Who doesn't love macaroni and cheese? All were enjoyed outside on a perfect evening. If you haven't tried it, go on by. read more

These guys do it right. Fresh beef, top of the line ingredients, grilled buns ... the burgers are full of flavor and always cooked to perfection. I make a special trip there every time I take my daughter back to school. Great service, personable staff, outstanding food ... and did I mention the best shake out there. This is really a great place for burgers and fries. Everything is homemade. Chili is meaty and is the perfect consistency to add to your dog, fries, or burger. Was a 4 star kinda place but it seems like they don't keep the same staff long. There used to be a group of guys that used to rock out some great burgers but they aren't their anymore. Since they have been gone the burgers don't have that well seasoned taste they added. The grill does add that crispy top on the burgers which you can only get here. One thing I do like that is always unchanged is the grilled pound cake and ice cream. It's huge. Please do try it you will like it from first bite to last bite. read more

Many of my friends had raved about this place and I finally convinced my fiancé go go with me. I got the El Diablo burger with a side of sweet potato fries. The meal was perfect. The sweet potato fries came with a sauce that was sweet (I usually dip mine in ranch) and I am a fan for life! It consisted of syrup, mayonnaise, and cinnamon. Such a weird concoction but those are usually the best. The staff did not have much to say but was friendly enough. The owner came around and spoke to many of the guests which I really appreciated and was sincerely grateful for their business and took the time to have a genuine conversation. I will make this a regular spot when I make trips to Greensboro! read more

There are a lot of places in Greensboro that get the "best burger in town" label, but I would say Emma Key's can run with any of them. Top tier burger, cooked to perfection. Ok I only work in Greensboro and was told to check it out for a quick burger...on this day 03/09/2019 I ordered two burgers...exactly how i wanted em and juicy my god I'll be back even though I had to walk from parking ( I like my calories) bit overall for 7 bucks I'll stop in for a burger god bless you folks read more

Where do I start?! You pull up to this cute whimsical little corner grill and when you walk in the door the smell of the burgers cooking on the grill is amazing. I built my own with blue cheese, lettuce, tomato, ketchup and mayo. Don't forget to order the sweet potatoe waffle fries with their "secret sauce" which is pure dessert. read more

This place is great - a simple, old-school diner experience that everyone will enjoy. I'm vegetarian, so I appreciate that they have two great veggie burger options, and my friends say the meat burgers are on point too. You can order any of about fifteen different recipes, or create a custom burger. They've got tons of toppings, cheeses, and sauces so you can have anything from a simple all-American cheeseburger to something complex and daring (especially if you get fresh jalapenos - they don't play around with the spiciness in this joint). All the sides are great, too. Whether you get regular fries, sweet potato fries, or a milkshake, you're sure to be happy with it. I've never been disappointed at this place, and I go there often. I will warn you that if you go at a particularly busy time, you may have to wait a while. This isn't any fault of the staff, though - it's just because a lot of folks know how good this place is! read more

Looking for a while in the wall place to eat instead of the chain restaurants. Found this place, first I hate the parking situation. You have to park along the street in a residential neighborhood and it was hard to find a place without parking in front of someone's house. The atmosphere was cool and laid back with a retro vibe. The food was great, the service was great, my only complaint would be the parking. read more

So where do i even start, .... the food was amazing. The fresh and obviously scratch made or locally sourced ingredients were apparent in every bite. My custom MPB burger was absolutely delightful. The fries were hot and tasty. The grilled pound cake should be a sin. This is easily the most amazing burger I've ever had. Gene and his staff really delivered on service as well. They were accomodating, smiling, and patient. Id recommend Emma Keys to anyone !!! read more

When I moved into my first apartment, my roommate immediately said we should all try Emma Keys. After going one night to Emma Key's I realized that this just might be the best burger spot in Greensboro. It's a bit pricey but totally worth it. Definitely a go to if you're in the area and want a good burger. read more

This was just ok for me, which is kind of a bummer. Don't get me wrong the staff was nice enough. The restaurant is small with cramped seating. There were a few flies hanging around inside. The burgers were good but not great. I had the AMERICANA. Also ordered (and paid extra for) cajun fries, which came to our table as regular, unseasoned fries. Best Burger In Greensboro !!! Dont remember the name of the burger but lettuce, tomato, BBQ sauce, fired onions, pimento cheese, bacon and I added grilled jalapenos!! Oh my , plus fries and a IPA to wash it down. Love the location and really everything about it. The burgers are made to order so you do have to wait sometimes. We moved to Greensboro a few weeks ago and Emma Key's has quickly become our default stop for great burgers and fries, complemented by a most awesome staff. The Big Kahuna and Lonestar burgers are the bomb. And save room for a piece of that pound cake. I looked at some of the less than positive comments in other reviews and I must say, I haven't shared those experiences. As for the reviewer who complained that you could see into the kitchen I ask, what part of Flat-Top Grill did you not understand? We highly recommend EK's!! read more

My initial impressions upon receiving my food (quite quickly, I might add) is that 1) the restaurant's name is perfect and 2) this is a very good quantity per dollar and an absolutely absurd calorie per dollar meal, especially in 2025. For right at $20, I got a huge burger and enough fries to satiate 2-3 people. I cannot fathom what the larger burger sizes look like, much less who could possibly be ordering them. The fries were everything I could have asked for -- crispy, salty, and with a very generous amount of both cheddar sauce and bacon (the perfect amount to have sauce on every bite but not be soggy). The burger was good, and definitely satisfied that primal craving for salt and fat that we all carry with us from hunter-gatherer days gone by. However, I wouldn't say it was particularly spicy, nor did its flavor deviate significantly from any generic burger I could order. Don't get me wrong, it was still delicious, but I was a little disappointed. I think that the fried jalapeño coins are breaded a little on the thicker side, which somewhat mutes the spice and slight acidity that they would otherwise add to this dish, to help cut through and brighten the other flavors. All in all, I had a great meal and would totally come back, but I don't think I've tried the "perfect" burger from here yet. Definitely going to recommend this to anyone in the area.

Embur recently relocated to Smyres Place in Greensboro and the new space feels much smaller than I expected. The design reminded me of what I imagine a modern restaurant in Peru might look like. Industrial with solid wood floors, warm finishes, and a large wine display. There are around 25 to 26 tables, mostly two tops and four tops. The largest table seats six, but they will push tables together for larger groups. While I was there, a group of more than 20 came in celebrating something and they were seated quickly without disrupting the rest of the room. The small patio has outdoor seating with about 8 tables and a they have bar area with about nine comfortable seats. The menu took me a minute to understand but I ended up liking the setup. You choose your entrée, which comes with set ingredients, and then choose your protein. Each protein has a different price, so you can control the cost of your meal somewhat. Most menu items can also be made gluten free according to the menu, and vegetarian options seem easy to do. For my appetizer, I ordered the flatbread. Perfection. Rosemary, olive oil, sea salt. Crispy outside, soft inside, and so flavorful I almost ate the whole thing before my meal was served. The server came with water right away and remain attentive but not intrusive the whole time. For my entree, I ordered the Arroz Chaufa with salmon. Arroz Chaufa literally means fried rice. At first the dish seemed a bit salty to me, but once I added the green sauce that comes with it (served on the side), everything balanced out. The green sauce has very mild heat, so if you are not a fan of spicy food, that is the one I would recommend. There is a list of sauces so I assume you can customize your entree. According to my server, the other sauces bring more heat. The salmon was excellent, well seasoned but not too much, and moist. The portion was ample. I was very hungry but I had leftovers to bring home. Service was exactly what I want when dining alone. Attentive without being intrusive. I watched Netflix while I ate and enjoyed my meal without feeling rushed or bothered. The noise level is average for a busy small restaurant. Comfortable enough to relax, but if you want to talk to someone in your group a couple of seats away, you will need your outside voice. This place feels upscale without being fussy, so expected to pay more than average, but I thought it was good value for the quality and portions. I loved this restaurant and will absolutely go back. Must order: Rosemary flatbread appetizer. Tip: Ask about sauce heat before ordering. If you do not like spicy food, start with the green sauce.

Having recently moved to North Carolina, I was on the search for a good burger joint. After talking to my brother-in-law, who has lived here a while, I decided to take his recommendation for Emma Key's. This is a cute little spot with a very friendly staff. They were more than willing to help me with my order. I ordered the Americauna burger which is their burger topped with bacon, mayo, barbecue sauce and an egg cooked over easy. They served it with a fork that pierced the top bun. That along with plenty of napkins was well appreciated. They also serve Cheerwine that I have just discovered and love. The only issue that I had was where to park. I was informed by another diner that directly out front of the restaurant there are four to five spaces and approximately another ten across the street going up the hill facing west. I visited this restaurant a little over a week ago, and unfortunately, it was a terrible experience. The owner came in and began loudly cursing at his employees, creating a very uncomfortable environment. He then got into a heated argument with a young mother who politely pointed out that the booster seats were broken and asked him to take the argument outside. Instead of addressing her concerns professionally, he told her to leave, using offensive language. Later, another customer confronted the owner about his inappropriate behavior towards both his staff and patrons, but the owner dismissed the concerns and continued cursing at everyone. The lack of professionalism and respect was shocking. I cannot recommend this place--poor ownership and management overshadow any potential positives. read more

Recently moved to Lindley Park. Found this tiny spot near the corner of Walker Avenue and Elam. It is tucked away directly across from Lindley Park Filling Station. This little place was busy, but decided to wait to try what I heard was a great burger. I ordered the El Diablo, which is a spicy burger with spicy mayo, jalapenos, spicy ketchup, cheddar cheese, lettuce and tomato. The burger was really good. This my favorite burger joint in Greensboro. They have great burgers - they make into a ball and smash them on the flat top grill, they cook it the way you want, with the stuff you want on it! They have choices of different toppings, but I prefer the old-fashion way with just cheddar and bacon! I love the sweet potatoes waffle fries and the special little maple syrup dipping sauce that goes with them. They have craft beers in the bottle and outside seating. I always get the jerry garcia (garden burger) so good with all the fixins. They have great fries, regular or sweet potato. Cheerwine! A must for this type of place. Emma Key's is a great place to go out with friends and sit back and relax, all while enjoying a couple beers and a burger. The workers there are incredibly friendly and will talk to you for as long as you like. They will also give you fantastic recommendations on what to try be it food or drinks. The burgers are delicious and big! Not the tiny thin ones so many restaurants serve. Be sure to get their sweet potato fries and sauce for it! They are to die for! read more

Love this place! I had the Carolina Dog and I swear it's the best I have ever had!! The homemade chili is a game changer! I hear the fries are amazing, but I opted for the onion rings and I they were awesome. Everything was a Chefs kiss! Emma Key's offers a delicious selection of burgers and fries. I would consider this a "hole in the wall" establishment, not the nicest atmosphere. That being said, the food is excellent and the service is fast. It's small, so seating can be sparse, but it's definitely a diner worth checking out. read more

On the other hand, my 3rd coworker, who was in a separate room and had not heard their high praises, told me that it was "overrated" and "fine but not that special." Lol. Needless to say, I had absolutely no idea what to make of it all when I arrived. When I walked in, the woman behind the counter asked if I had ever been there, before patiently walking me through the various sections of the menu and helping me pick something out. I settled on the Popper Topper, which promised Cajun spices and fried jalapeño coins, among other various toppings. At its smallest size (big), it only cost $10.99. I also ordered bacon and cheddar fries. My initial impressions upon receiving my food (quite quickly, I might add) is that 1) the restaurant's name is perfect and 2) this is a very good quantity per dollar and an absolutely absurd calorie per dollar meal, especially in 2025. For right at $20, I got a huge burger and enough fries to satiate 2-3 people. I cannot fathom what the larger burger sizes look like, much less who could possibly be ordering them. The fries were everything I could have asked for -- crispy, salty, and with a very generous amount of both cheddar sauce and bacon (the perfect amount to have sauce on every bite but not be soggy). The burger was good, and definitely satisfied that primal craving for salt and fat that we all carry with us from hunter-gatherer days gone by. However, I wouldn't say it was particularly spicy, nor did its flavor deviate significantly from any generic burger I could order. Don't get me wrong, it was still delicious, but I was a little disappointed. I think that the fried jalapeño coins are breaded a little on the thicker side, which somewhat mutes the spice and slight acidity that they would otherwise add to this dish, to help cut through and brighten the other flavors. All in all, I had a great meal and would totally come back, but I don't think I've tried the "perfect" burger from here yet. Definitely going to recommend this to anyone in the area.
