Typically, i'm not a big burger person. My cousin highly speaks of this place so one night we ordered takeout from here. It was AMAZING!! And this is a BLACK OWNED business!! I had the lou lou burger with fries and it was spot on. The pimento cheese was melted perfectly and my burger was cooked to order. This used to be my favorite place to go for hamburgers. Now I am not sure has happened there. They don't do flat top burgers they are made in a burger press, they don't have beer and the wait time is insane! My husband went last week and waited an hour and a half for lunch! I have it one more shot last night and after 35 min brought out a salad to go( we had 3 people and 4 kids) and said here you go. I said I did not order a salad we have a large order of hamburgers. Husband goes into check and didn't even start our order. Manager or owner was standing there and didn't say a word when my husband asked for his money back and complained. No apologies no nothing. I really wish I read the reviews first. I was expecting a bigger hotdog for the price. It was small (even though a main menu item) and had a few onions and smooshed up ketchup. Not very warm. I PAID for and asked for the garlic rosemary seasoning on the fries. They didn't put it on. And overpriced can of la Croix. Waste of money and calories :( They also didn't give me napkins or ketchup for dipping even though I ate it there. read more

Fantastic flat-top burgers! I had the James Taylor, which has chili, slaw, mustard, etc. It was outstanding. The fries were perfectly cooked and perfectly seasoned. On top of all of the great food, the service was great, too. The delightful lady who took our order took the time to come out to check on us and even brought a free homemade cookie for each of my kids. Just a wonderful experience all around. Ugh. This place was awful. Our first visit to Greensboro for a weekend and we came across Emma Key's and decided to dine there for breakfast Sunday morning before hitting the road. There wasn't a wait (literally 2 tables occupied whom had their food) and we figured, why not. Well, we both ordered burgers with fries, which fries were an additional charge. Weird, but whatever. We were hungry. After sitting and waiting for a good 5 plus minutes, the server we ordered from came to our table and told us that they are out of the vegan patties (which I ordered), and asks if there is anything else I would like. I order toast and home fries instead. Kid apologizes and says he will refund my burger and fries and that we won't be charged for the toast and home fries. I was super appreciative and thanked him. He soon came back to our table and told us that they were also now out of home fries. I tell him that just regular fries will work. The food wasn't very good. Not that I'm expecting my toast to be to die for, but the fries we definitely eh. My fiancé mentioned that his burger was not the greatest either. When we went to leave, the kid who took our order and said all the above was no where to be seen, so we told someone else the situation and asked how this refund would work. The struggle was intense and after spending some time on the computer, he tells us to wait a second and leaves. Another kid appears (who smelled like he was just spending some quality time baking with Willie Nelson) comes to the counter and attempts to take care of the situation. He says we are all set. So we ask to see what the refund is. He shows us the screen and says he took off the burger. We asked about the charge for the fries and he said "well didn't you get fries?"...so after that lovely experience, we ended walking away with free toast. Long story long, and point of this review, is to give you a walkthrough of this shit show of an experience. I can't imagine what it's like coming here if it's busier. We are all about supporting "hole in the wall" places, small business, etc. but seriously don't waste your time coming to this joint. read more

Since reopening after coronavirus, Emma Keys seems to be struggling to adapt. The wait time has become pretty ridiculous...like 45 minutes, and after waiting that long all our sweet potato fries were entirely too well done. Normally they have amazing sweet potato fries, but these were disappointingly crispy. We were each allowed one paper towel, which isn't enough, but going to the window and cutting people in line to ask becomes an ordeal. The burgers and hotdogs are still exceptionally delicious though and if they can speed up their service, stop overcooking the fries, and buy some napkins they'll be all set. read more

This place has the best chocolate milkshake in town. However, the fact I waited over 20 minutes for the 10 people behind the counter to blend some ice cream and milk just blows my mind. Did they have to milk the cow too? I thought maybe I'm missing something more to why a simple milkshake takes so gosh darn long!! Emma Key's is my go-to restaurant for a burger in Greensboro. The food and service is consistently great and the menu is big enough for you to find your perfect burger. The James Taylor and the Hotel California burgers are probably the most popular thing on the menu along with the sweet potato waffle fries and the maple dipping sauce that comes with them. Highly recommend trying. The only downside to this hidden gem is the parking. Emma Key's doesn't have their own lot so you're better off parking in the big lot across from Bestway and next to Suds and Duds on Walker or on the street. It's less than a minute walk to one of the best burger joints in Greensboro! 9/10 would recommend. read more

First time here for lunch yesterday and it was packed. As other's have stated, you go to the counter, order and they give you a number to put on your table. We sat outside as it was a beautiful day. When we finally got our burgers, hot dogs and fries, 40 minutes later, everything was awesome, especially the fries. In my top five ever for sure. Fried potato perfection in every bite. The burgers were great as well. A bit thin but the flavor and crunchy char on the edges of the meat was heaven. The tomato was not ripe so I took it off but that's my only complaint on the burgers. The wait was excessive for this type of food but the place is small and they were very busy. I'll be back at a less peak time. Loved it! read more

We went here at 2pm on a Sunday afternoon. It was crowded outside, with a few folks eating inside. The staff warned that they were in the weeds and the food would be 40 minutes in the making. It was my buddy's birthday and he wanted to wait, so we ordered, got a couple of beers, and settled in. We had two hungry kids in tow who sat at the bar to watch the grill action. They had milkshakes first to stave off hanger and since those were taking a while and they waited patiently one of the staff gave them a brownie to share. The food was good when it arrived. No, the buns are nothing special. Most buns, in my experience, are not. I usually remove the half with the least condiments anyway. The meat was cooked to-order, flavorful, and the right size for a meal and the toppings were complimentary (we had El Diablo and Hotel California). The three-way fries were good. They had generous portions of the toppings and the amounts of each (bacon, chili, cheese) were well-balanced. Probably my favorite thing we tried was the sweet potato fries. I love the idea of sweet potato fries, but I'm usually underwhelmed by the finished product. Not this time! They were fantastic. Staff was super busy, working hard the whole time we were there, and always friendly and helpful. Food was fresh, sloppy, and yummy. Beer selection was varied and the prices were fine. And the kids were treated well and had good behavior acknowledged (so important when teaching them how to be people). We'll be back. read more

As someone with celiac disease, I can attest that it can be very challenging to find places to eat. Emma Keys not only has fantastic burgers and fries, but they also cater to the gluten free crowd. They have local gluten free buns (that are excellent) and the fries are prepared in a dedicated fryer. In addition, they also have a basket on the counter with various yummy gluten free baked goods from WallFlour. This is very exciting to gluten free people! The staff knows what gluten is. While that may sound trivial to some, this fact alone determines whether I dare eat at a restaurant. Emma Keys is the place to go in Greensboro for a great burger and fries! read more

My office mates and I ordered lunch from here today to be delivered through a local Take Out company - a total of about $75.00. Aside from being 45 minutes later than we requested, I was extremely disappointed with the food. I created my own cheeseburger and the beef patty was extremely dry and had way too much pepper on it. I was not able to finish the sandwich without removing the beef patty. The onion rings were good, but had some type of seasoning on them that was not expected nor specified on the menu. Of the 4 other team mates that ordered, only 1 had a successful lunch that was truly enjoyed. Fries were missing, the food was cold, and the meal was late. I have always heard great things about Emma Key's and am surprised that my experience was so poor. Sadly, this was my first experience with Emma Key's. Not worth the money paid almost as much as at Hops and Hops burgers are stellar and include delicious French fries or salad. Add to that the interminable wait time when they are 20% full. I've order food through grub hub twice from this Emma Keys. First time the sweet sauce for the sweet potato fries was not in the bag, but overall the food was good. The second time I order through grub hub I had order the vegan burger and sweet potato fries. A staff from Emma keys called me stating that the vegan cake burger was not available and asked me what other food option that I want. I picked the turkey to replace the veggie patty. Superb customer service I like that they called me and gave me an option to give me my money back or replace the food. I would recommend going ! read more

One of the best burger joints in Greesnboro. My coworker told me about Emma Keys and I'm happy he did. The only negative I can think of is the parking. Emma Keys doesn't have a parking lot and DON'T PARK IN THE LOT BESIDE EMMA KEYS. THEY WILL TOW YOUR CAR! Your only option is Suds & Duds which is a short walk down the street or on the street. Very good burgers. The atmosphere is a little divey, but it does have a large outdoor area. The burgers are a little over priced I guess, but it was a darn good burger, and I ended up taking half home. The staff is very friendly. Heard great things about this place- hubby and I went for dinner. Burger was good-- good portion for the price- not a gigantic burger and gigantic price. Sweet potato fries were good- a bit too sweet for me, but I know people love them! I noticed one thing and it sort of grossed me out- and I noticed this when I went to Fincastles as well (same owner)- NO ONE WEARS GLOVES when preparing food! IMHO, if you are going to have an open kitchen where people can see you in action, by all means, I would think that sanitation would be of upmost importance. I am sure they wash their hands, but after handling raw meat on the grill, then turning around and grabbing lettuce, tomato,or whatever is next, is not very safe at all, They must have been wearing gloves when the health dept. came around because they scored a 99! read more

The food was okay. I feel like people hyped this place up too much for me, so my expectations were high. The burger was good, juicy, but nothing special. I also got cheese fries and I was quite disappointed. It was just fries with processed cheese ontop, instead of the gooey cheesey goodness thats usually put on cheese fries. We were pretty disappointed with them this past visit. I ordered the lone star with garlic Rosemary fries. Our total came out to be around $23 and with 15% tip it was around $27 (would have been less had I known what the future holds). Order was placed 12:30 per my receipt but we did not get our order until 1:10. For two burgers and some fries I think this is a ridiculous wait time. The fries was a hit or miss too because some were cooked crispy while others were not cooked all the way through. I was also disappointed that my burger was just well done to a crisp. I am not sure if the burger was the way it was because it was thick and they wanted to make sure it was thoroughly cooked but it was a disappointment compared to our last visit. It's always hard to find parking to come here and after this visit I'm not sure I'll be coming back because I can't wait 40 minutes with my newborn! When she gets hungry she cries big time so I can't have that! read more
