I would personally not recommend this location to anyone, but I would probably come again just to enjoy the view itself. A lot of these locations, you pay for the view not the food. The service was ok, I guess not much to complain about. Our server was nice and attentive. I would say that the shrimp appetizer was expensive for 5 pieces but wow were they amazing. My husband got the steak which had no flavor, I got the salmon which had no flavor and my son got the burger which was dry. He was very unhappy and had the need to prove to me that you can in fact mess up a burger. We also got 2 lemon drops, and let me tell you, lemon drops is not their fortae (do not get). So overall we paid $300 for a less than mediocre meal. Steak purists, this place is NOT for you. Everything good about this place has nothing to do with the steaks. Yes it has a great view. Yes the Julia Child potatoes were good. I also liked the broccollini which had a nice kick and crunch to it. The service is great and attentive. Those are the reasons this place gets 3 stars instead of 2. But let's talk about the steak. I had the rib eye since I read enough bad things about the Wagyu. So so so so SO disappointing. The quality of the meat was fine but a great rib eye has the right enough of salt on it to bring out the flavor and this rib eye was...*gasp*...bland. When you have to trot out 4 kinds of sauces and 3 kinds of salt to the table, you've got a problem. There are chefs who would be deeply offended if you asked for salt. This place has the pink salt, Himalayan salt, and what looked like plain table salt on the table to start. Yeesh. I spent most of my meal dipping my steak in the different sauces without much effect. It wasn't until I added a little pink salt that it FINALLY tasted like a rib eye. I'm not a person who likes a lot of salt on things but this steak so desperately needed it. Everyone knows. - Food - I've been here enough times to say it's a hit and miss. - Service - good-ish. - Event Coordination - I'm not happy with it. We just had an event held at their Bay Room. Let's start with... Event coordination and communication. It needs improvement on many levels. We went ahead with putting down a deposit ($4500) because we were drawn in by the great view, good food from times we have been there before. Signed the banquet event order (contract), agreed on their suggested table and seating arrangement, agreed on the event time stated 5pm to 10pm, agreed on cost. Then on the night of the event, seats shown on the seating arrangement for the exterior balcony, open area of sort...not there. No chairs for guests because it was not communicated to him as explained by our event captain. Basically, "Shrung. I don't know. I was not told." We the hosting party adjusted. Our guests adjusted for the business venue's screw up. The seating setup was on their website video. Our event is exactly that. Food I wanted to upgrade 2 food choices for our guests. Original price, $100/guest if it's their prepared standard menu. I opted for 14 Oz. New York (+$12), Lobster (+32) upgrades. We were expecting 60 guests so we provided exactly how many meals we would need for each option. So if using the original menu price...60 guests at $100/guest, $6000. Easy. But with the upgrades maybe the math isn't so easy, right? No, they just lumped it altogether into $144/guests regardless of how many actual upgraded meals were ordered and how many original priced meals were ordered. So the total meal cost was $144 x 60 guests, which makes no God damn sense, $8640. "Your vegetarian dish is now upgraded in price only because another guest is having Lobster. Enjoy." I can put this under my bad I guess. My bad for missing, not carefully checking the contract to see if the business will screw this up or maybe try to con me to pay more than I ordered. My bad! The upgrade wasn't an upgrade. As others have pointed out on yelp, their Prime New York steak is skip-able. Mine was not good. No flavor town here. I guess you can sweep this under my bad as well because I should have check the reviews on yelp first. Lobster was good but make sure you pay an extra $44 for a $32 upgrade like I did. Some guests couldn't make it. Less than 60 meals were served. Where's the left over? Was it even offered to us, the meals we paid $144 per plate, to take home? Did it go to the trash? Unsolved mystery. But wait, there's more! Right around 9pm, when our guests are enjoying themselves because the music was playing, dancing was happening, the event captain came up to me and said hey uh, the event is supposed to end at 9pm (nice timing buddy). I said no, the contract says 5pm to 10pm. He said no, it's 9. You can stay 'til 10pm but that'd be an extra $1000. Needless to say I paid my hard earned money so our guests can enjoy themselves. Lesson here is DO NOT hold your event here at Epic Steak where quality and integrity are not part of the deal. Maybe it's an upgrade I missed. 2 Saving grace. The bartender was good but you have try real hard to mess that up. Another was when asked, another event captain got me a serving of ice cream when one guest didn't like chocolate dessert. read more

I've been to epic steak 4 times now and each time I haven't had the best experience and just hoped it would get better. 1: the steaks are ALWAYS overcooked. If you're going to call yourself "Epic Steak", then as a customer I expect you to have some pretty amazing and well cooked steak. Our whole table ordered their steaks medium rare and medium and we all received well done steaks and had to send our meals back. This has happened to me every single time I've eaten here. 2: our reservation was at 6:00pm and we didn't finish the dinner until 9:30pm. The service was at a snails pace. Our waiter was extremely friendly and am not faulting him. But the kitchen and the bar need to pick up the pace. All in all, there are better steakhouses in SF for a fraction of the price. Epic's location by the bay bridge is one of the best in SF (i'd try to time your booking to coincide with the sunset if you can). The interior decor sets the scene nicely- it's classy and elegant but not at all stuffy, in part because of the high ceilings and steamship elements. The drinks have standard SF pricing even though the food is expensive, which I appreciated. They have a good wine selection and very well balanced cocktails. The sides were delicious, especially the aligot. +1 for the dessert too. Thought the salad was a bit boring, so might skip it next time. The steak: Was good enough but not mind-blowing. For what it's worth, i'm a huge steak snob, so take my opinion with a grain of salt if you aren't. I like for every bite to be dripping with flavor. However, it was on par with other steakhouses, the cut of meat was very good, and they cooked it a proper medium rare. During COVID, it's truly hard to find a restaurant that can make dinning seem like normal. First off, the food was great. We ate two really good cuts of steak - try the Epic Steak Sauce! The view of the Bay Bridge was amazing. Only cons to our visit: (1) we were seated outside beyond the restaurants terrace. It was so cold. I was super jealous of the people with heat lamps and the seating near the fireplace. We anticipated it, but to know that the restaurant offered blankets and jackets for sale to patrons was disturbing. (2) as you will see in the picture, we were right next to a popular walkway, so anticipate random people passing by you - keep your mask close by. That's not the restaurants fault at all, but pending on where you sit, don't be surprised by people walking by and being too close for comfort. (3) our waiter was super attentive from the beginning of our meal and once our food came out, he was no where to be found. We had to waive someone else down to get to our Lyft that was waiting outside. (4) lastly, I had noted in my reservation that dinner was to celebrate my anniversary with my girlfriend. I didn't expect anything, but even some acknowledgement would have been nice. This location is amazing the patio has a really great view of the Bay Bridge, the seating was nice and cozy under the heater, but a little too close to each other. I gave a 2 on my review because they gave bread that was as hard as a rock, I ordered truffle fries and they looked like left overs cause they were little tiny pieces not worth it for $17, steak was okay nothing too special. We had to order onion rings because they were out of mashed potatoes, but how are you a steak house without mashed potatoes? Lastly, the waiter had a weird vibe, he was kind of unfriendly and so serious which made me and my partner feel kinda off and we were uncomfortable to ask for anything else. I have been going to this place for a decade now, and it has been always fantastic until today. I don't know what happened to their food quality or to their chef but what they have served us today, was not just non edible, it was health hazardous. I have ordered chicken tenders for my toddler from the kids menu and my friend ordered chicken waffle. What they served: three pieces of some bread crumble mass, one piece had literally just a piece of chiken bone in it, second one had a BLUE overdried chiken (I guess this chicken wasn't slaughtered but had a natural death), and the third piece had a tiny jerky overdried chiken. It's a child endangerment to serve such "food" in the kids menu. I regret not taking picture of this "dish". Same story was with the chiken in my friend's plate. As a vegetarian, I never would have thought that I would have a fantastic meal at restaurant which has steak in its name but I'm so glad I confused waterbar with this place and decided to give it a try. I ordered the sweet corn mushroom ravioli with a peach cocktail and strawberry shortcake and all three dishes were mind blowing. I think this could have easily been my favorite restaurant in San Francisco (but alas their limited vegetarian menu) - it has a great outdoor seating where you can enjoy the Bay-bridge views while savoring the yummy food and fruity drink. The strawberry shortcake is a must order - the texture and taste is just right (the strawberries they add are yum). The ravioli I ordered was on the sweet side but it was really good and I typically don't like mushrooms but it went so well with the whole ensemble. The peach cocktail I ordered was delicious - it was on the fruity / sweet side but I think it was definitely one of the best cocktails I've had in the city. I would definitely definitely recommend this place even for vegetarians - they don't have more than two options on the menu but it's definitely worth the $$ I think I'm gonna go there again just for the garlic fries see what else they have on the menu. I found this place as I was helping coordinate an event. I was able to speak with Amber who does the events at Epic and she was so sweet and accommodating! Although my client chose another restaurant for their event, Amber's customer service made me want to take my team to eat here! I AM SO GLAD I DID! We tried Steak Tartare for the first time here. It was so delicious! We were on somewhat of tight schedule but never thought our 6 oz Filet would take 30 mins to come out following our appetizer. When it did, it looked so sad and scorched. We didn't think anything of it. We thought maybe the taste would blow us away. It didn't. It was the most bland steak we have ever tried. Not even the steak sauce or chimichurri sauce was able to save it. The steak tartare set the bar high for the steak and we ended up being so let down. The service is great here. They knew it was a birthday dinner and gave us a birthday card with a complementary mouse desert which was super great as well. They constantly checked on us. The view was spectacular on the deck and surrounding us as we ate inside with an expansive view through the windows. Our seating was intimate and cozy without being overcrowded. The Holy Cow Happy Hour is available Mon-Fri from 2:30-6pm. Drink specials on select beers, wines, and cocktails plus specials on food including dozen oysters for $36. Ok so they're not as great an oyster deal as next door but better than nothing I guess. Other great food choices include crispy calamari and an unctuous steak tartare. Alternatively there's a burger, beer, and a brownie special for $20. A couple things that struck me. I hadn't been to Epic in a long time but it used to be so good. This time things were pretty mediocre. Our waitress was fairly rude. Asked for black tea but brought us green tea. When we asked her about it, she denied that she made a mistake. At least she still took it back and came back and admitted to her problem. Our bread and butter had hairs in the bread once I cut it (see photo). Also I remember the bread and butter being much better before with multiple bread options and salt. Let me begin by saying - the food we had was really good ( for the most part ). The only reason I'm giving this place 2 stars is 1st: because the service and the timing of everything couldn't have been worse.. we had to ask and remind our server at least two or three times for our drinks and bread basket. My son took me here for my birthday dinner while we were spending the weekend in San Francisco. The location is wonderful, at the base of the Bay Bridge. Our server, Jacqueline Z., was exceptional and we had good conversation with her. It was so cool because she asked it we were there for a special occasion, and I said my birthday and she handed me a birthday card which several of the staff had signed!
