I use to really enjoy eatting at Eric's. For Chinese food for the Americanized palate, it is my favorite place to eat lunch and bring family to. But the service changed since those days of enjoying eatting at Eric's. Bad service... as a matter of fact, service please... hello?! I had always heard such great things about Eric's. So when we moved to Noe, I was excited to finally try it. What a disappointment. The food is absolutely flavorless. I've been here a few times things started off good the food was fresh and service was fast. The service however isn't as fast or friendly as it needs to be. The food is still very good hot and fresh. I have to say this is one of the best chinese food restaurants I've ever been to. Usually a lot of chinese restaurants taste greasy and heavy but this place does not fall into that category. The food was not heavy and tasted really fresh!! The service is a step up from your typical chinese restaurant but don't expect Nordstrom service. So close to home and so constantly good. Eric's has yet to truly let me down in quality and taste. The ingredients always taste and look fresh. The prices are on the steeper side for Chinese food but you are getting quality so to me it is worth it. If the quality starts to slip then I will start going down the road to Henry's. read more

Some people who review Eric's make a stink about their Chinese food being Americanized. I like Americanized Chinese food. I grew up with it, and it reminds me of special times with my family. I just completed a meal at Eric's. It was fabulous. I had mu Shu Chicken. It was just like the way it was when I was a kid, yummy and probably very American. Went here for a lunch special today. I had the chicken with snow peas and fresh mushrooms. It was very good. As soon as we arrived, I pounded a glass of water and began looking at the menu. I looked at my water glass ten seconds later and it was already filled up! Great service!! My fiance got the mango chicken and my aunt got beef and asparagus in a black bean sauce. We shared an order of pot stickers. I tried all three dishes and the were all wonderful. The pot stickers were top notch. I usually go to Alice's around the corner on Sanchez because Eric's is always crowded. I highly recommend this place. They must have filled my water glass ten times!!!! FINALLY. Chinese in SF (outside of Chinatown) that I actually like. I moved here from the East Coast, and for whatever reason, your typical Chinese food here is different, and not in a good way. Eric's is a great place for a quick cheap lunch (bowl of soup and a huge plate of food for around $6). I usually order the Hunan Fish which is very tasty. Also, the eggrolls are fantastic here. I give it four stars for the yummy food and clean nice ambiance but the service is really hit or miss. read more

Great place to take the visitors from Des Moine. It's ethnic enough to make the noe valley would-be hipster feel "edgy" and multi-culti, but also let's you feel just as safe as when you last dined at the olive garden. Their 5-taste chicken & a big bowl of rice is all I need. read more

Good chinese food in a part of the city that really doesn't seem to have many good choices for chinese. It's not the most authentic, but it's not over-westernized either (i.e. not oversweetened). Most of the dishes that I've had there have been really good, not too greasy and the vegetables perfectly cooked (loved the greenbeans). The portions are large - you certainly won't need more than one main per person (probably less if you're with a few people), but it's inexpensive enough that there's no reason to hold back. I agree with another reviewer, however, on the pancakes for the Moo Shu (which is otherwise excellent) - much more like tortillas than thin rice paper - and the only sour note on an otherwise very solid menu. read more

not a bad restaurant.. they were slammed on xmas day. my family and some friends went there for dinner. service was good, noisy a little cramped. food was ok. don't know many if any chinese restaurant serves avacado spring rolls though. at the end of the dinner we split the bill 2 ways down the middle. my friend paid cash and i paid with a credit card, he worked the tips into the whole amount and told the server to split it, then i signed the reciept and the server had the audacity to ask me for a tip, which was already worked into the bill. i thought that tipping was based on service and not a must give. read more

It's not a restaurant to travel across town for, but if you're in the neighborhood and looking for fast and easy options, it's a great bet. I've had both takeout and eat-in from them. We used to visit Eric's and Alice's when we lived in Noe Valley. Both served very similar chinese food and their menus were almost identical. Eric's was higher quality and I was told time and time again that there was no relationship between the two. Who knows? We were were headed for Alice's but the reviews were terrible. I was a little shocked as the food was always very good. In fact, 3 reviewers complained of getting food poisoning at Alice's. So we opted for Eric's instead. We ordered Mishu Pork, Hoison Dry Beans, Crab Rangoon, Broccoli Beef and rice. The Mishu Pork was salty, greasy and tasteless. In fact, I found a shrimp in it. The beans were full of sauce, greasy and a little mushy. The Broccoli Beef had too much sauce and was tasteless. But the Crab Rangoon was perfect - just the way I remembered it. I really can't believe all the good reviews for Eric's. Yes. It once was a great place for reasonably priced, fresh and tasty Chinese food but not anymore. Like Alice's, its food quality has dropped to a very low point - perhaps because of new ownership or because both restaurants are trying to live off their past reputation; while cutting corners and making inferior dishes. read more

Came here for lunch. Pros: Rice had a nice consistency. The servers usually have a smile, even when ignoring you. Water glass is kept full. This can also be annoying. Cons: Kung Pao Chicken actually bland, which is quite a feat. Sweet n Sour Pork also tasteless. Even cookies seemed stale. It is not a good feeling to watch people who have been seated after you get their order taken while you are still waiting. Long wait for check also. Disappointed and won't be back. read more

I was really disappointed with this since all I had was sesame chicken and chow mein. The chow mein was really bad and the noodles were almost mushy and didn't have much flavor besides salt (or msg??). The sesame chicken was just okay. Eric's has been popular since it open years ago. I love the 2antiqued chairs and the 1 antique table in the back seating area and the antiqued screen , always with orchid in the front. The place is clean but can get loud because it's always packed. The food is made for non-chinese for sure. Not that they are bad tasting, they are just Americanized. If you like "Koi Palace", I don't think you will like this place. Otherwise, a good place to hang out with your friends and have some Americanized Chinese food. read more

We go to Eric's on a regular basis. It is a good neighborhood restaurant that is above average in taste, and reasonably priced. They have some unique dishes. My favorite are the Avocado rolls. I've had better Chinese food, but Eric's is convenient and good. read more

Although opening time on Saturdays is posted as 11:00 a.m., when I called at 11 to place an order, the person answering the phone snarled, "We don't open until 12." Despite my protests and telling him that the opening is posted as 11 on Saturdays, he insisted I was wrong and wouldn't take my order. I won't try there again. read more
