My wife and I had the the shrimp poboy and the fried fish poboy. We split them and enjoyed them. The sweet potato fries are a treat.

Awful service here - had a sign that said seat yourself so I sat outside. No one came. Went inside and asked the bartender what to do and he had so much of an attitude. Told me I could order from him and they would bring it to me. I was going to order food and a drink. I asked if they had rose (not a crazy ask IMO) and he acted like I was crazy. Said they only had white and red wine (no further details). Asked if they had Sauvignon blanc then and he acted like I was crazy and said they only had Chardonnay (with so much rudeness). At this point I said you are being incredibly rude, I will take my business elsewhere and left. Wouldn't recommend this place unless you want negative and rude service. read more

Came here 3/16 for lunch. Arrived at 12:30. We had a group of eight and waited at the entrance for a while before a waitress told us it was first come first serve. So we found a spot outdoors. I like the ambiance on the patio. That said, the service was a bust. It took 30 minutes to take our order and before we got out water. I never got a refill at all. Food came one at a time, it's nearly 2pm and I've eaten already but the last members of the table just got served. Food was good overall but I can't recommend it. read more

This would have been our 3rd meal here. 2019 and 2021. We took an Uber here from Canal and Royal. We arrived about half past 9 on a Friday night Saints season opener weekend. There was a moderate crowd at the outside tables. Inside to the right the tables near the bar area looked crowded. We selected a table to the left against the wall with the high back bar seats. No one brought a food menu after several minutes and no one acknowledged we were there although several servers walked by. We finally grabbed a drink menu from an adjacent table. The table we were seating at was wet. Finally a server asked if we wanted menus. Go figure! Of course we wanted menus. She then proceeded to place two menus on the wet table that apparently had not been cleaned after the previous guests. We sat there for an additional 10 minutes before we decided the vibe was bad and we left. It was very disappointing because we always looked forward to coming here when we come to New Orleans! We just had a private event in the Lafayette room (2nd floor) and had an AMAZING experience! Tabby and Janice were just incredible catering to all of my team's and our guests' needs and April managed the entire event so well it ran without any issues. The food was standard bar fair with some Cajuny favorites. I got the crab cakes, sweet potato fries and 2 Abita beers. Total was 25 before tax and tip. The service could be better initially, but after getting the staff's attention, I quickly got my food. Considering location and it being a Saints game day, I think it was appropriate to wait about 30ish minutes. This place isn't over the top or a place that stands out, but it is a good place if you are looking for a more local, divey vibe. Lots of locals here. The location is great. No major complaints. Bathroom could be updated, and they use a plastic ketchup squeeze bottle for soap. Needed some cleaning as well. read more

AVOID. Went here on a Sunday afternoon. Asked a waitress if we could sit at an empty table and she said "sure." What she neglected to tell us was that table didn't have service. Be very careful here. We came to have a beer on a walk home from the convention center. The service was good, the beer and appetizers were okay but when I got the bill ~41.00 my wallet app on my phone when I paid showed $50.00 when I asked why the waitress got the manager on duty who said this happens every so often with Chase but the problem is I used my AMX. At this point she started to scramble and got another manager on the phone who told me this is common and it was the service they used to process cc payment and it would be refunded by Monday. I will check with AMX and if not fixed will take legal action. I'm glad I have my alerts set for cc payments or this scam would have gone unnoticed. Beware. read more

Got there at 9:00 after arriving was told they would not serve us even tho the kitchen doesn't close until after 9:40 according to door dash. Crew just didn't seem to want to be bothered. Great food. The egg rolls were awesome! Outside table service was much less than expected. We sat down for 25 min outside and didn't see a single server so we went in to order drinks at the bar. The bartender also took our food order. We ordered 3 appetizers but only received 2. They were busy so we understand the mistake. I will go back to try out the appetizer I didn't receive but I'll probably sit inside next time. No service outside until the waitress said the food side was closing down for the evening and asked if we wanted another round before she left. So she serviced us once. We went back to the bar ourselves to get drinks every time. Also there is a large homeless population walking around begging for money so if you sit outside you will be approached. Beautiful place. When the staff at a restaurant can balance​ those 3 things I am always impressed​. The drink I tried, the "Sweet Peach" was not what I expected. It was more tart than sweet, but not terrible. The taste was just unexpected because of the name. The food was perfect. The freshness​ of the shrimp and crabcakes was apparent. The waffle fries were perfectly seasoned and​ crispy. Stopped for lunch around 12:00 on a Monday. We chose to sit outside. Server was very nice but seemed frazzled. He seemed to be the only person working the outside area and seemed overwhelmed. Got drinks pretty promptly but food seemed to take a while. Hubby and I had the burger (medium) which was cooked properly to medium. Deal breaker for us was the plastic silverware. Ugh. We enjoyed the staff and the food. We did a Yelp check-in and were able to use the free appetizer when two entrees were purchased. Highly recommend the devil pickles and jalapeño appetizer. I had the blue crab cake platter with the waffle fries. Excellent though I couldn't finish it all. My husband had the fish platter and enjoyed it immensely. Beer is $1, $2, or $3 a can depending of what you choose. I had a hurricane and it was quite delicious. Virginia was Br tending and was gracious and helpful. read more

My daughter ordered the mozzarella sticks, but didn't eat them because she said they tasted off. I got the jambalaya with blackened chicken. It was okay but not close to the best I've had here in town. The rice was gummy with crusty (bottom of the pot) chunks. Chicken was okay. The stormy weather made me get a recommendation from the hotel on a great place nearby to get real NOLA food. I was so glad they pointed me to the Ernst Cafe. The menu is sensational and well priced, the environment very comfy and I had the best service from Randy that I have had anywhere during my time in NOLA - she made me feel special even though she was not feeling her best. A group of friends and I went to Ernst last night and boy we couldn't wait to get out of that place! When we first came in we were promptly greeted and seated. They even arranged two tables to seat us because we were a big group. It was 7 of us and we immediately asked for separate checks before placing any orders to make it easier on our waitress at the end. She became visually annoyed and walked away. We then all agreed to have one check to make it easier on her (3 of us had previously worked in restaurants as waitresses/bartenders so we felt for her). However, she had such a nasty attitude she never allowed us to tell her. As she was taking our orders she kept rolling her eyes and running away. Drinks were alright, food was good but the service was horrible. We felt so unwelcome. Oh and despite asking for separate checks.. we still got one check. Lol. Time for an update.... been 2 years give or take since my last visit here.... stopped in after the Yelp Elite event on 2/11/13 along with some of my favorite people.... started out about 6 of us but the group grew to 10+ while we were there.... Nothing much has changed, the interior still has the old school pub vibe and we pretty much had the joint to ourselves until right before we left around midnight.... This time in I went with the "Classic Roast Beef" poboy while I recall Steve I. went with the Boss Tenders, Vicky L. went with gumbo and some type of egg roll thing and can't remember what Michelle B ordered up for herself.... heard no complaints about the food but heard no rave reviews either.... as to my poboy the bread was crispy and tender chewy but it wasn't "wet" enough... the roast beef itself was tasty but the overall dryness detracted from the dining experience... not sure if the bread soaked up the juice or there just wasn't any put on it.... either way made for an average eat.... However we rolled in around 9ish maybe closer to 10 PM and the kitchen closes at 10 so be warned.... but the server Eddi was outstanding let us know and made sure our dining experience was the best it could be.... My thoughts on the food offerings from my original review still hold after this visit.... plus all beer still bottles only, NO draft options... I was doing the well scotch with water and the pour was excellent and at $4 a drink I thought the price was reasonable... So to recap, the food ain't gonna blow you away but it's tasty and filling, the prices on booze were reasonable and overall there are better options but this place is still A-OK in my book.... read more

I hadn't been to Ernst in a few years, when I met up with a bunch of fellow yelpers a week or two ago. I was late to the party and cranky. In no time I had a glass of bourbon (not my preferred brand but they did have a decent selection) and had ordered an ultimately delicious fried shrimp plate. (As a side note, when I tipped the member of the kitchen staff who delivered my plate, I got a hug...which was nice and with the shrimp/fries/bourbon completely erased the crankies.) Ernst has solid food since it's a popular spot with the service industry crowd (I think the kitchen is 24 hours). The shrimp batter was nice and spicy and the shrimp were a really good quality and c'mon tasty french fries...which are excellent for shoving in the maw of your too drunk friends. That's the stuff. Yeah the tile floor is odd...but seriously it was installed 100 years ago. I don't know about a symbol for piece but before it was co-opted by an insecure Austrian, it was a symbol for national identity for Germanic peoples...since they didn't even have a flag. Too bad the man with the 'stache had to ruin things. read more
