I have found this place by chance on two separate occasions and have always been pleased with the service and quality of cuisine. The vibe is relaxed (as most locations in Warehouse District is) but it's also the caliber of patrons that make this place sing. The employees are unpretentious, the customer are cordial and there is a simple 'down home' concept that this place captures very well. The stormy weather made me get a recommendation from the hotel on a great place nearby to get real NOLA food. I was so glad they pointed me to the Ernst Cafe. The menu is sensational and well priced, the environment very comfy and I had the best service from Randy that I have had anywhere during my time in NOLA - she made me feel special even though she was not feeling her best. A group of friends and I went to Ernst last night and boy we couldn't wait to get out of that place! When we first came in we were promptly greeted and seated. They even arranged two tables to seat us because we were a big group. It was 7 of us and we immediately asked for separate checks before placing any orders to make it easier on our waitress at the end. She became visually annoyed and walked away. We then all agreed to have one check to make it easier on her (3 of us had previously worked in restaurants as waitresses/bartenders so we felt for her). However, she had such a nasty attitude she never allowed us to tell her. As she was taking our orders she kept rolling her eyes and running away. This is a really cool place to grab a drink(or five) after work, since it also has a kitchen -hours and days are limited, though. They have happy hour specials but I never make it down here early enough so I'm forced to pay full price. Bummer, because I know places with all-around service industry discounts... Differently a hidden gem in NOLA. I was so pleased to have found this place. Everything was perfect. From the location, food, drinks, and overall atmosphere!! I was visiting for a few days down here and this was by far my favorite place to dine in. I'm from Alabama, so this cafe was like home. The staff was super friendly. Takes forever to get a server outside apparently (the group next to us warned us and they actually kept going inside to bartender to get drinks)...that we moved inside because we were ravenous. This was about after 20 minutes of no service. Once inside, service ordering was more prompt! Ordered crab cakes (good), oyster po boy (okay and the fries were good), and the gumbo (mehh). My daughter ordered the mozzarella sticks, but didn't eat them because she said they tasted off. I got the jambalaya with blackened chicken. Been here 3 times for a 4 day conference, debris fries, fried pickles and red beans and rice were all bomb

Terrence provided excellent service when we stopped by on Saturday night. We didn't have any beer or drinks but the food was great. To start we had the southwestern rolls and mozzarella sticks, both good. For entrees we had the buffalo salad, the blackened shrimp po-boy with a side of red beans and rice and also the grilled fish platter. Found this place by accident and couldn't be happier that we did! We sat outside and enjoyed their $1, $2 and $3 beers to start. The deviled fried pickles came next and I couldn't even snap a picture before they started snatching them up! They were the best fried pickles/jalapeños we've ever had! The jalapeño ranch and ranch that came with them were to die for; I wanted to bottle them up and bring them home with us! Next came the creole nachos; again with the jalapeño ranch so good!!! The spicy sausage, queso and red beans were the perfect toppings! We rounded out the afternoon with the Cajun jambalaya; the chicken was tender and juicy with a little bite on the back side. Po-boys here Absolutely SUCK. At least ours did. The French bread was toasted soooo much that it practically cracked like crackers!! Made the sandwich almost impossible to eat. We had already waited so long for it to be prepared that I honestly want to wait any longer for them to correct the situation. But it was LOADED with fish & shrimp. Loaded Fries were Out of this World GREAT!! Give'em a TRY though, I know I would....at least to redeem themselves. Service: Good before the food was brought out. We were visiting from out of town and tried to visit this place. The beers are cheap and it had the local hang out feel. Tried to order food but we were told by the server that the kitchen was backed up so there would be a delay in ordering food. We ordered sodas and beers and after about 45 minutes we checked in at the bar to find out the kitchen was closed, and was about reopen. At this point we had exhausted our excitement to try your place and the food. The bar tender was nice enough to comp the beverages so they tried to make it right. Best thing on the menu might be the crawfish nachos, but I'm biased towards nachos. Regardless they're delicious. 2. Other notables are the chicken sandwich and bread pudding for dessert. 3. Good beer selection, yet they always seem to be out of a lot. 4. The wait staff here seems very inattentive. It's always a struggle to place our order, get refills, get our check, etc. orders have frequently been wrong. Appetizer was boudin balls with pepper Jack cheese. It was okay. I didn't really care for the cheesy texture. Not bad but I've had much better boudin balls. The fried shrimp with sweet potato fries side was good but again something I could get anywhere. The other dish was a gumbo. It was fine, but typical. I've had better in this area. First, I arrived post lunch rush and waited about 20 mins to be acknowledged before having to go find a waitress to let her know we were waiting to order. Meanwhile I bussed the table myself so I could have a place to sit while I waited to order. Once we made contact we still had to wait another 10 mins before she came to take our order. At this point, I was admittedly annoyed but I'll try to give an honest assessment of the food. The po boy was average at best. Overall a bit dry, bread was okay, not great. Meat portion was a little light, and the flavor was okay. My wife has a chicken wrap and the meat portion was good but also an overall average experience with her meal. The $1.25 beers are a great value but the service was absolutely terrible and food was barely average. Overall it was underwhelming and would not visit this establishment again. read more

Decided to hope over to this place after having a few drinks at the bowling alley. The staff was really awesome and recommended the red beans and rice. Our table had the etouffee, gumbo, and the red beans and rice. All three were excellent but i definitely think the red beans and rice was the winner. Another thing to note is that this place has some really great drink prices and therefore can be a bit on the rowdy side with folks who have had a few of their delicious rum punches. However they were out of oysters, but they substituted fried shrimp In a word.....DELICIOUS!!! This is definitely a three napkin sandwich. It is served on a sliced Italian bread hero and is stuffed with pickles, lettuce & tomatoes as well as melted cheese and a spicy mayo spread. The sandwich is accompanied by a generous helping of seasoned fries. They also have a pretty good beer selection available as well as some signature cocktails and a house wine. After sitting for an hour and a half we were able to get 2 drinks and an app, but after that could not find our server. Had to abandon our main orders and leave cash on the table bc the check took so long to come that we were going to miss the ferry. It seems like you have to keep reminding them that you're there and hungry bc if not they seem to just totally forget that you exist. If you have any sort of schedule, or would like to be served a meal with water and drinks, like at an actual restaurant, just go elsewhere. Food was undercooked (shrimp po boy). My shrimp didn't have any flavor nor was it completely cook. Extremely slow service when it wasn't even busy. Our server took forever to take our order as well as other request we had. It was a group of 6 of us and we requested separate checks in which our waitress (Dorothy) said it wasn't an issue and would be settled later on. When the time came to get our bill we explained to her everyone's order yet she came back (about 15 minutes later) with wrong tickets for us all. We decided to leave it be and just pay the bills and leave. When we received our copies to sign the ticket one of the members in our party received a notification from him bank about the amount spent at this cafe. The amount was for 20% more than what the ticket said. We all checked and they charged all of us 20% more than what our bill was. When we asked for the manager all he said was that it wasn't right and that the right amount would be the final charge. Wouldn't recommend going here unless you are paying CASH.
