We are visiting Kanab and our hotel highly recommended Escobar's for Mexican food. Opinions on TripAdvisor were rather diverse so we gave the restaurant the benefit of the doubt and tried it out. To be fair to the restaurant I'd say if you like very mild flavors bordering on bland when eating Mexican food then you won't be disappointed. If you're familiar with Mexican food, have travelled to Mexico or enjoy authentic Mexican cuisine and its unique flavors and aromas then you will be highly disappointed. I tried the Chile Rellenos and though it was cooked properly they were not prepared properly. They were stuffed with mozzarella cheese. Sorry, that's not right. The peppers were not poblano peppers but rather long green peppers with less flavor. Made a big difference. Salsa served was very very mild bordering on no flavor. When we arrived we immediately got a table, but had to wait quite long until someone was willing to take our orders. The Super Nachos appetizer was not good at all. Everything was soggy because the bean sauce was all over the plate. The fajitas and tacos however were quite good. By the way, none of our plates arrived at the same time. Home made chips & salsa were excellent! The pork tostada was heeped high with deliciousness & had a tasty red sauce that did not leave the tostada soggy but kept a crispy center. Chili relleno & jalapeno poppers were so cheesy :-). Wish we had authenticity like this & to find it here-Awesome! Clearly a local favorite. It got packed at 530pm, 5 minutes after we arrived. This place rivals with the best Mexican restaurants I have been to in Mexico and New Mexico (where we live). The service was fast and friendly, even though they had a packed house. Three years ago we went to Kanab, and had a really good time on this restaurant. My husband is totally a "Mexican-Chinese" lol...he is in love with their food and culture. My girlfriend and I took a trip to Kanab this weekend, we ate a romantic dinner at Escobar's on Valentine's day. We both thought this place was GREAT! The chips we got before our food were delicious. I'm not sure if we were just delirious from the long day of hiking we had, but they could be the best chips I've ever had. We decided to get a side of guacamole to go with them which made them even better. I asked Rosa what her favorite is, and she didn't disappoint! #6 dinner, you need it in your life. It was so much food, and I literally ate and ate it until it was gone. If I ever find myself in Kanab again, I would definitely head here again. Everything was fast an delicious. I stopped at Escobar's because the other Mexican restaurant in Kanab was closed on Wednesdays. We were hoping to find a place where we could eat with our dog. They had a nice outside eating area on highway 89 as you leave town to the East and encouraged us to dine with out pet. They had a water bowl outside in the dining area with a hose to give your furry friend fresh water. The food was good and reasonably priced. The servers were courteous and friendly. What a HUGE disappointment! I ordered a Carne Asada burrito and the menu it described it as "grilled steak" with rice, beans, guacamole in a flour tortilla. Instead I was served a ground beef burrito and the meat was probably seasoned with Goya adobo seasoning which made it very salty. I went there for the first time ever with my family since we're staying in town for a few days. Prior to going, I read through the restaurant's reviews on yelp and the reviews seemed to be good, both on food and service. Did I mentioned the service was horrible? We literally had to hunt down the server just to get our check. So would I recommend this place? Absolutely NOT! Their menu descriptions are inaccurate. read more

This is my favorite restaurant ever! The food and the service is phenomenal. We stop by every time we go to Lake Powell because we live very far away in San Diego. We love it so much we go two times on our trip and would go more if we could. The food is to die for and everyone who works there is kind and polite. The best Mexican food within 100 miles without question. Nothing else in the entire county comes close. I try to never miss the chance to eat there when we pass through. My favorites: The Monday Special - A Carne Asada Torta - Better get there early because they are sold out sometimes well before the lunch crowd has thinned out. Chili Verde in or on anything. Their Chili Verde is the best I have had since dining at the Guadalupe Center in Salt Lake. I like it in the bowl or in a chimi or burrito. Asada Salad - A really tasty and quite large salad with tons of good stuff on it. Carne Asada meat slices, corn, black beans, lettuce, avocado, tomatoes and cheese with their special dressing. Be sure to ask for extra dressing you are going to want it. Salsa and Chips - I actually find myself dreaming about the salsa when I have been deprived for a long time. Consider buying some for the road! Just don't plan on getting a hamburger for your kids. They only serve hamburgers on the 4th of July! This is Kanab's best sit down meal for the money. Nothing else comes close. You can call in your meal if you are short of time but I don't think they will actually reserve a table for you without ordering something. Call first if you can and order take out in case there are no seats available. Often at lunch or prime dinner time there are no seats free. read more

Maybe we visited at a bad time, but the service was lacking in friendliness. The server was very dry. The cuisine was sub-par. I could make better everything and welcome the challenge! I had an 18 month old who I asked for a small bowl of beans to feed and she brought an adult plate full of beans and charged almost $5 for it! The pricing is way too steep for what is offered. The pictures of the food are way better than the flavor. Don't recommend wasting your money there at all. The one star that I have to give them is for being a pet friendly place, but be sure to just order the chips and salsa and nothing else. read more

The food was very good and tasty, it is authentic Mexican food. The only downside is the Service was terrible! No type of greeting. We only got one serving of chips and salsa. We had to ask for refill of iced tea otherwise we wouldn't have gotten it. Server never came back to ask how the food was after she served us. At the end of our meal, the server never came back to give us our check or offer dessert. We had to go to the counter and then our check was given to us. No type of "thank you for coming. See us again" I think no one likes working there. We didn't see anyone working there with a smile. By the way our server's name was Rosa. We felt out of place. I ordered the chile verde dinner. Very disappointing! Neither the pork nor the salsa verde were at all flavorful. And in agreement with other reviews, the portion was one of the smallest I can recall at a Mexican restaurant. The frijoles were OK and the tortillas were pretty good, generating the two stars. Oh my! This place was not a fun place to eat. The food was decent and the price was ok, but the staff left a lot to desire. Nobody offered to seat us when we arrived, our waitress (the owner) was interrupted while taking our order, the staff was loud and inappropriate, the whole experience was just not good. The "teenagers" need to go. They are loud and rude and disgusting. One girl in the kitchen, you can hear everything going on in the kitchen, kept teasing someone for "farting" and saying "Jesus Christ". Not what I want to hear while I'm eating my dinner.
