If I could give this a 4.8 I would. The wine menu is absolutely fantastic, the ambiance is great, and the food is delicious. My only complaint is that it's very loud in there and can be hard to hear others when they get a band in to play (which they seem to do quite often). read more

They are really friendly, willing to recommend a wine after learning about your preferences, have good wine/food, and allowed my dog in. I highly recommend. They have great happy hour specials for wines and a few appetizers in the early evening and the place has a very cute warm charm to it. The prices outside of happy hour are also reasonable, with a great variety of wines offered for much less than what you'd pay at a Press Club. With its reddish velvet benches and seats and wood touches, it feels extremely welcoming and your go-to neighborhood spot. I always take my friends here for a catch-up, happy hour, or even for a night out -- though I think the ambiance here is best for catch-ups and even a date :) Alexandra is one of the sweetest owners and she even worked with me once to do a private event with a private chef. Etcetera is pretty much how I'd picture the wine bar I'd dream of owning someday look like. It's adorable inside! They have outstanding wines available by the glass and by the bottle - a selection to truly satisfy all sorts of palates! There's quite a bit of seating with little personal tables as well as bar seating where you can watch all the wines being poured. They actually take reservations, so I'd recommend this if you're going on a Fri/Sat night and want a cozy spot to sit in :). Etcetera also has small plates available, though I have yet to try them. But everything on the menu looks good! I appreciate wine bars that offer bites to nibble on to balance the wine in your belly. My favorite part about Etcetera is the super sweet staff! They are all smiley and ready to answer any questions so that you order the right glass or bottle :) Great spot for date night! Would highly recommend the one tawny port they have as a dessert treat! I wouldn't recommend this wine bar to my worst enemy. They were incredibly disorganized and the service was outright bad. They had multiple tables "reserved". But as we sat throughout the evening none of these tables were used. The servers need new careers. They were rude, were inconsistent, moody, not knowledgeable, and slow. At no point did they apologize for issues and instead blamed it on us. I've worked for years in the service industry. The kitchen was not able to keep up with food service. The food took anywhere from 10 minutes to 45 minutes to come out of the kitchen. The food was ok, but not great. When coming to a wine bar I expect a certain elegance, and level of service. The service here was better suited for a fast food restaurant. If the staff is new or not trained, then add better written descriptions of the wines and food. read more

If I walked by it more often, I would likely step in more. Their tastings are really fun, and their selections are top notch. Prime location in the Mission, right on Valencia and 19th Street, across popular places like the Chapel, Souvla, and Boba Guys. If you're not looking for Etcetera though, it could be easy to miss, as the storefront and signs aren't flashy, but it's definitely worth stopping by! We went on a Friday night, it has a great ambiance. There are tables, but we preferred to sit at the bar. Etcetera has a wide range of wines, coming from many different countries and regions. Their menu has the different wines split up by country, so you can read up on the different wines as you sip on your current glass and pick out what you want for your second glass. Etcetera is also part of the San Francisco Wine Passport by Broke-Ass Stuart, so it gives tremendous value for the first glass of wine, but definitely support the bar by ordering some small bites and more glasses of wine as well! read more

Cute wine bar that has a happy hour from 5-7pm for deals on tapas and a few select wines. I like the fact that they label their wines in depth so that I won't forget what I'm drinking. I'm by no means a wine critic. Nor an expert. When I was a kid, wine to me was the stuff the Frenchies drank to every meal, and it was something my mom would use occasionally for cooking. And it was also something you could get for EUR 2.99 at your neighborhood Lidl supermarket. Well, I'm a bit older now and ready to reconsider, or to learn. Etcetera seems to be the right place to do so. First thing you'll notice is the menu which lists the wine by country, followed by several pages with even more detail. Give me a bottle of Chardonnay, allow me some time to go through it, and I'll be an expert in no time. Look around the cozy bar, get comfortable on the leather seating, and you'll feel warm and welcomed. The staff is super friendly and although it gets pretty crowded on weekend nights they're very attentive and chatty. Don't forget about the food: Etcetera serves mid-European, French-inspired cuisine which was delicious and had the right portion size (I tried the cheese plate with meat, Flammkuchen, dessert). Oh, and yes, the dessert. Fantastic. This place might as well be a dessert-only place. Definitely will be back! Wine lesson #1 mastered. read more

While I think it's a little unfair to review a business during their first week in operation, Etcetera's unveiling needs to be shared... There is no such thing as too many wine bars in the 7x7, and Etcetera differentiates itself with a sleek, sexy, deep-red, Euro feel...almost as if the Ferrari family chose the decor. Think leather and lipstick. It's the perfect sized wine bar, in my opinion, with one entire wall of low, cushioned lounge seating and a cozy curved bar, where you can chat with the authentic French winetenders. Always trust your palate to the Frenchies. I visited during a private party, and they were able to pack in about 60 people, making for a lively, intimate mood. On a cold and rainy night, we were all feeling lucky to be warmed by Etcetera's red glow. Oh yes, the wines! They have a generous by-the-taste or glass list, with an even sampling of US and Euro varietals. We tried the Alsatian Riesling, French Pinot Noir Rose, and a bottle of some funky (in a good way) Greek red. Prices are pretty standard, with glasses ranging from $7-15 and our bottle was a reasonable $39. The pours seemed a bit daintier here than what I'm used to, but perhaps my gluttonous American eyeballs were playing tricks on me? We feasted on gorgeous platters of charcuterie - they seriously know what they're doing in the meat and cheese department. The bread was perfectly simple and fresh, too. Then there were ham & onion Tarte Alsaces (a thin, buttery, pizza-like thing), and dessert crepes that got snatched up before I could try. The point is: they've got super wine-friendly grub, so come prepare to sip and snack. I could see myself returning here for a snazzy girls night out, or a va-va-voom kinda date. The lighting is dim and rosy-colored, guaranteed to make Madonna without makeup look attractive. The wine selection is actually pretty good, so it's a place I would go for drinks (and drinks only). Guys, please don't take a girl here for dinner. The food is not impressive at all. The mushroom risotto with truffle oil is overly cheesy, even for risotto. Such a great find. The SO and I were in line for another restaurant in the area, so we decided to take a walk around Mission and see what we could find. We stumbled onto this place... actually I'm not really sure why we decided to stop here, but we had an hour to kill and decided that wine definitely couldn't be the wrong answer. We arrived around 6pm on a Saturday and it was still fairly empty, but by the time we left around 7, there was a short line starting to form. It's a pretty casual place, and you can just sit and order at any empty table you see. This place is basically a small, cozy wine bar. It's dark, intimate, has yummy tapas and delicious wine flights to share. The chairs are soft cozy cushions, pretty nice place with a great atmosphere. We got the Spanish wine flight and an empanada to share since we didn't want to spoil our appetite before our actual dinner. The red wine flight was delicious -- it was an interesting blend of Spanish wines that were all a little bit spicy, which added for an interesting kick in flavor. The empanada was also super delicious. Overall, service was attentive in terms of getting our initial order in, but getting someone flagged down to pay the bill was a little more difficult. They get a lot of business so there's a lot of movement back and forth around the place, but otherwise, delicious food and great wine. I started off sitting outside right as they opened on an absolutely beautiful Saturday, having a few wonderful small bites with friends along with a few glasses of a delightful Cava Rose, helped by a very attentive and friendly staff. Having left, I walked down to 16th before being invited by a few friends to the same spot I had just left. I happily wandered back and switched to a delicious red while catching up inside. I asked for water three times and it was just like ignored, when we got the check, I told one of the waiters we asked three times. He said very rudely, "well do you want water." I almost cried and my family was shocked. You are required to purchase food to drink but they don't respect you'll need water? A bottle was $48 and was OK. Food is tapas tasted good but it's basic cuisine. Another SF embarrassment - you wanna be open, we're trying to support you, and you and all your employees are just rude beings. Sometimes I have a terrible experience somewhere, and when I Yelp about it, the business owner really takes it personally and berates me for my opinion, rather than trying to fix the situation. That's not what happened here. After my decidedly negative previous review, the owner sent me a really sweet direct message discussing the matter with me and telling me how she'd addressed it with her staff. She was really nice and courteous and thoughtful. That's good service, in my opinion. And as such, I'm pulling a 180, and officially declaring that yes, I WILL go back to this business!!! Great neighborhood place, I love coming here and sitting at the bar or people watching on the cafe tables outside. Unpretentious, not overcrowded with techies or rowdy party goers. Just a humble, nice spot. They have a HUGE wine list that's very exciting. I'd recommend coming here for the wine and not a full dinner. Not crazy about the food (it's a bit heavy for my taste) but they are definitely unique and inventive. Maybe this place is good for dine-in, but they are definitely not used to online ordering! I made an online order for pickup through Yelp - mushroom risotto, bruschettas, jamon and two Mimosa sets (extra 1 star for this brilliant idea - you can get a small bottle of prosecco, a splash of orange juice and a cup to mix your own cocktail). When I arrived to pick up my order, I saw some bag on the pickup desk. It did not have any checks or labels or names on it. Nobody also greeted me when I came in, so I had to ask questions myself. They were not sure the order was mine but eventually concluded it was. I noticed a bottle of prosecco was missing - they acknowledged it and gave me one more. I told them their menu mentions a cup - they agreed and gave me two. We left the place to come back in a minute because we realized they did not put any utensils or napkins. The lady at the bar admitted she had not thought of it - and gave me a box asking to take some plastic forks out of it. Me, with my hands unwashed after I came in! Lastly, their bruschettas were just a piece of bread with some tomatos on it. Jamon was put in a box with some pickles, mustard and two pieces of bread. Risotto was fine - I have had better, but theirs was ok. To sum up - no online orders here. It's a mess and all the fuss is just not worth it. read more

Love love love. We were wandering around in the mission and I was hankering for some wine (like I'm not always but I digress..) anyhow this place popped up and we decided to swing by. First off- the seating! You can sit outside on the street and people watch, in the cute elevated window area or at a dimly lit table inside. All the options are so cute and romantic! We chose the window seat so we could people watch but not be subject to the elements. If you do choose the outside option, I noticed one of the members of the staff offering blankets to the patrons outside. A really cute and thoughtful touch. The wine list is super robust, so I went with the white flight and was not disappointed. It was a flight of three Italian whites and they were all so fragrant and refreshing! None of them bone dry so the BF liked them as well. Also really loved the stemware- I hate it when I have to drink wine from crappy stemware. The server was very sweet, knowledgable and enthusiastic but poor guy was working the whole place himself! All in all a great place to enjoy some good wine with good company. Amazing find! This place is super cute with great ambiance. My friend and I sat outside and the waitress (can't remember her name) was wonderful! She was super helpful when we were being difficult and indecisive, asking her about pretty much everything on the menu - she made our dining experience that much better. She fully explained each wine that we were interested in, gave us additional recommendations, and even let us try the two we were deciding between - great customer service. Can't remember which one we ordered but it was a white, very light, crisp, and not too sweet. She then went on to fully explain each of the daily tapas and which ones she recommended we try. We ended up ordering the Stuffed Zucchini and the Baked Brie and Dates. Both delicious! The Stuffed Zucchini was stuffed with cheese, tomatoes, and other deliciousness. The Baked Brie and Dates was almost like a dessert pizza. SO GOOD. I ordered a Caprese Pizza on my own for dinner and couldn't have been happier. It was really thin crust, light & good quality pizza. This place has the distinction of being my first Bay Area wine bar. And while there have been many others over the years, Etcetera still remains one of my favorites. One of the things that sets this place apart is its extensive wine selection. Certainly there are other bars that also provide great wine options, but there are none with such a comprehensive offering: if you want it, you're sure to find it among the "binder" that is the menu here. If you're feeling overwhelmed by the wine selection, try one of their rotating wine flights. And, if you're looking for some food to go with your wine, do check out their pizza options. Bonus points for the cool, helpful, down-to-earth staff and relaxed environment. I actually came here on a first date some time ago. The date went well and we ended up being the only people left in the place long after closing; but it wasn't until the staff were literally ready to lock up for the evening that they ever so kindly asked us to leave.
