We got the vodka rigatoni pasta and Texas wagyu steak to split. The rigatoni had great flavor. However for $70 the steak was quite underwhelming it was missing the soft tenderness of a traditional wagyu which was disappointing. I recently had my first dinner date at Evelyn, a new upscale restaurant in the Dallas Design District with my husband, and I have to say, it was a mixed experience, leading me to give it a two-star rating. To start on a positive note, the customer service from the blonde female manager was personable and professional, even if we didn't catch her name. Another staff member, a girl with soft curly black hair at the bar, was also kind and did her best to improve our experience. However, the lack of name tags for the staff was disappointing, as it hindered my ability to recognize their efforts. Perhaps they did have them but because it was so dark in there, it would be hard to read. Evelyn offers valet parking, which we appreciated. The valet attendant was helpful and informed us that, since we didn't have a reservation, we could look for a spot at the bar. The atmosphere was vibrant, likely catering to an average age range of 30 to 60, but I found the fashion choices of many women to be a bit off-putting, as they seemed to be aiming for a provocative style without nailing it. Evelyn's ambiance struck me as a blend of a Las Vegas nightclub and a modern French café, complete with dark walls and red lighting, making it a good spot for people-watching. We ordered two classic margaritas and the roasted cauliflower appetizer. With prices that were considerably high, we anticipated an exceptional experience. Unfortunately, the drinks were only three-quarters full, though the roasted cauliflower was fantastic -- beautifully presented and delicious. The young, curly-haired (with black rim glasses) attendant was attentive, asking about our experience every once in a while. When I expressed my concern about the drinks being under-filled, she assured me it was not typical and offered to make us new ones. She got 5-stars for caring. I asked for one properly made drink, as I was curious if this would happen again during a future visit. A different bartender prepared a new drink but informed me that because we did not want sugar added, he could not fill it to the top. I found his explanation unprofessional, confusing and disheartening, and when I conveyed my discomfort to the curly-haired bartender, she acknowledged it, saying the same information had been relayed to her. He gets a 1-star in my book. On a fun and fancy note, the ladies' restroom was an exceptional experience -- clean, unique, and complete with an attendant serving champagne to guests, which provided a fun touch and garnered five stars from me. The experience took a turn for the worse when we went to pay our bill and discovered an error. My husband approached the blonde manager to rectify the situation, and she was understandably appalled at the bartender's mistake. To her credit, she offered to compensate everything except for (what I must say was the highlight of our meal) the appetizer, which was a generous gesture. While the staff did make efforts to enhance our experience, the inconsistencies and the communication issues we faced affected our overall impression. The shrimp cocktail were ginormous and they provided cocktail sauce and a remoulade that pair nicely. The shrimp themselves still needed more time to defrost and was slightly tough (3/5) Scallops were a 4/5 very creamy and light beurre blanc sauce with minced vegetables included in the sauce as well as roasted asparagus and cherry tomatoes. He absolutely loved his filet mignon. It was cooked a good medium rare but be mindful that fixings and sauces are an additional upcharge. The sides were pretty were sized. We ordered the mac and cheese (3/5). The dish itself was very decadent, however the chicharonne beef on top was very dry and flavorless. The mushrooms were nicely roasted and not overly buttery that you can still taste the earthiness in it. Overall for 2 people- 4 drinks (2 old fashions & 2 wines) alongside an appetizer, 2 sides, and 2 meals it was $280 prior to tip. I felt it was well worth it. He was open to the feedback on the temperature and flavor of the food. He noted the mistake on the wine list and committed to changing the wine menu to reflect the correct wines. I went back for an anniversary dinner, and the experience was great. The service was always phenomenal (even though I didn't note it in my first review), the food issues seemed to be corrected. I didn't have dessert on my first outing, but we had two different deserts - Chocolate Decadence and Sticky Toffee Cake. I ate and drank so much that I had trouble sleeping that night as I was so full. Mallory the bartender was very engaging and conversational (without being intrusive), and Brandon our waiter was very attentive the entire time. Came here to celebrate my anniversary dinner over the past weekend. Evelyn had a very fun and flirty ambiance, the vibe is definitely giving old Hollywood. We were sat in the purple room which is lounge style seating. It may not be likable to everyone, but I actually enjoyed the privacy and quiet compared to the rest of the restaurant. It felt very romantic and gave us the space to talk and connect. Our server, Roshni, was super sweet! She gave us a tour of the restaurant and was very informative. We were disappointed to hear that they didn't have a current wine list available for us to look at, but the sommelier was super helpful in finding us something we'd like. As far as food: We had the yellowtail sashimi and oysters to start off, they were great. For dinner we ordered the 16oz prime ribeye and 14oz texas wagyu strip. We also ordered the jumbo sea scallops, roasted broccolini, and the star of the show- the ribeye chicharron mac and cheese. The steak was good, not better or worse than a lot of the steakhouses in Dallas. Cocktails and Service We began at the bar, indulging in cocktails that certainly did not skimp on alcohol. We tried the Mexican Martini, Hollywood Old Fashioned, and a couple of mocktails. The craftsmanship behind their cocktails is impressive. After our drinks, we were escorted to our table, where our waiter, Hunter, provided excellent service. He spoke clearly and always wore a smile, discussing the specials and engaging in light-hearted conversation, which made for a pleasant experience. Appetizers and Salads For a starter, we shared the Crab Cake, which was hands down the best we've ever had. The fresh taste of the crab was enhanced rather than overshadowed by the accompanying ingredients. Coming from a family that has spent plenty of time crabbing on the Oregon Coast, I know good crab flavor! Next, we shared a Caesar salad that ranks among the best we've enjoyed. Soups and Entrees Our meal continued with Seafood Bisque, featuring fresh lobster and crab. As someone very particular about lobster (my favorite shellfish), I was thrilled. The slight spiciness was perfectly balanced. Our entrees were nothing short of amazing: large scallops served with asparagus and rack of lamb. Both dishes were flavorful, and we also savored the lobster mac and cheese, which could easily be labeled the best I've ever tasted due to its freshness. A side of sautéed wild mushrooms complemented our main dishes beautifully. Desserts and Conclusion To round off our meal, we enjoyed a Crème Brûlée cheesecake. Although I'm not typically a fan of cheesecake, this one was exceptional. The real highlight for me was the Soma Fudge dessert, which was our favorite. For the amount of times they texted us prior to the reservation, you would think they would let us know we wouldn't get the room we reserved. the ambience is like something out of the Clockwork Orange Milk Bar. it feels a little like 80s cool like a Greenwich Village nightclub and then the food starts to arrive. The staff is great and all smiles. They have cute uniforms with stylish boots. We had the blue cheese wedge, it was great. Then we had the Wagyu cheesesteak bites , wow, creative and incredible. Next we had the scalloped creamy potatoes that came in a staggered pyramid shape and stacked almost like Pringles and just incredible. Then came the Wagyu NY Strip, medium. I'm a filet mignon guy, medium plus, but this was one of the best steaks i have ever had , including Peter Luger in NY. Maybe the best I've ever had. The creamed spinach was excellent as well. The fries were cold and looked like it was the bottom of the barrel, and salty, I personally don't understand cold fries. My other friends had the lobster bisque and the rigatoni which they enjoyed. Spacing of the food was a little spotty - one appetizer came out quickly while the oysters took a long time. The music was a bit loud for table conversation but you can raise your voice over it. We were there for a birthday and had a wonderful evening overall. There was even an attendant in the ladies' room offering prosecco which was a little odd but not necessarily in a bad way? The only thing I'd say is the person of our party who made our reservation received multiple texts about the "dress code" and how it was extremely important that we adhere to it in order to maintain the upscale atmosphere. It's completely fine for a restaurant to have a dress code or not have one but EVELYN most definitely does not enforce it. I don't care what someone else wears, but don't make it such a huge thing and then ignore it completely. Getting in the parking lot and inside the restaurant was a little awkward too. The valet is in front of a set of doors that you assume you go in but apparently not! The friendly valet staff point you in the right direction. Ride share drop off and pickup are a little weird too trying to figure out how to get in and out. read more

Went here with some of my girls for a friend's birthday. Our server was so kind! We absolutely loved the appetizers and our entrees were very delicious as well. Would definitely come back! read more
