What could have been a stellar experience was unfortunately mired by such terrible service that we doubt we'll ever be back! Sure, The ambience is fun & inviting but all the glitz & glam is null & void if you cannot treat (paying) guests with kindness & respect. We (a group of 4 ladies) sat at the bar and literally no one acknowledged us for a clean 20 minutes. No hello, no water, no menus, no eye contact - NOTHING. We typically wouldn't wait that long to flag someone, but we had grace to give as they've just opened so we thought they could be overwhelmed. What infuriated us was the fact that there were almost 7 people in that bar section (1st one as soon as you walk in) yet none of them paid any mind to us. At the 25 min mark, I went to the host and alerted her. She seemed shocked, apologized and said she would flag someone which she did. Mallory (who was at the bar the entire time) then approached us and quipped "how can I help you??" No apologies or explanations, nothing. She seemed so bothered & irritated by us that we felt like we were being reprimanded for doing something wrong. She was SO RUDE the entire time, constantly interrupted us, had a horrible attitude, spilled drinks as she delivered them, never once refilled our waters or asked how the food was, charged us for wrong items on our checks wrong, just HORRIBLE! Honestly, your average steakhouse! However, I think the price point is on the more expensive side. The appetizers were pretty good but I wasn't impressed with my entree. For the appetizers we ordered the beef carpaccio and cheesesteak bites. Both delicious maybe even better than the entree! Someone else at the table got the lamb chops, I typically don't like lamb but they were actually better tasting than I imagined. I got the filet mignon (12oz) and added bone marrow. I was not impressed I thought bone marrow was suppose to be delicious and flavorful. It tasted like unsalted butter or maybe even grease was just added on top of my steak. Again... the sides might have even been better than the entree. We got the au gratin potatoes (delicious), jumbo asparagus (they were jumbo), and the chicharron Mac and cheese. Sides all yummy! The atmosphere was SO LOUD. It felt like everyone was practically screaming at eachother to hold a conversation and this was the case for each section. We booked in the "fine dining" section and it was still very loud. I did order an espresso martini and I will say it might've been one of my top espresso martinis ever. I was invited back after having to cancel my first reservation at the restaurant due to the kitchen being already closed. This time, I went with my boyfriend to celebrate my birthday and was able to enjoy the full dining experience. The restaurant offers complimentary valet, and everyone we interacted with was kind and welcoming. They even took our picture in front of the sign. We already knew what we wanted, so we ordered everything at once, and the timing of each course was well paced. For appetizers, we had the yellowtail sashimi, jumbo prawn cocktail, and the Calabrian Caesar with extra dressing on the side. We finished all of them, and our favorite was definitely the yellowtail sashimi. For my entrée, I chose the chicken rigatoni alla vodka. The dish came with a thin slice of fried chicken drizzled with hot honey, which added a nice touch. The rigatoni alla vodka tasted more homemade. As someone who often orders rigatoni alla vodka, I would say this version reminded me of the one you would make at home from a recipe online. My boyfriend ordered the boneless prime ribeye, which he ranked in his top three steaks. We shared two sides, the mac and cheese and the roasted broccoli. The broccoli was served with a side of housemade Dijon mustard, which was very strong, so just a small dip went a long way. The mac and cheese was creamy and satisfying, and we both enjoyed it. For dessert, the team surprised us with a complimentary sticky toffee bundt cake served with ice cream as well as a New York style cheesecake. I am usually not a fan of cheesecake, but this one had a caramel crust on top that I really enjoyed. The bundt cake was rich and warm, similar to a chocolate lava cake, and we finished it completely. We tried several cocktails throughout the evening, and the featured blackberry martini stood out as the best as someone that likes more sweet fruity drinks. I recently had my first dinner date at Evelyn, a new upscale restaurant in the Dallas Design District with my husband, and I have to say, it was a mixed experience, leading me to give it a two-star rating. Another staff member, a girl with soft curly black hair at the bar, was also kind and did her best to improve our experience. However, the lack of name tags for the staff was disappointing, as it hindered my ability to recognize their efforts. Perhaps they did have them but because it was so dark in there, it would be hard to read. Evelyn offers valet parking, which we appreciated. The valet attendant was helpful and informed us that, since we didn't have a reservation, we could look for a spot at the bar. The atmosphere was vibrant, likely catering to an average age range of 30 to 60, but I found the fashion choices of many women to be a bit off-putting, as they seemed to be aiming for a provocative style without nailing it. Evelyn's ambiance struck me as a blend of a Las Vegas nightclub and a modern French café, complete with dark walls and red lighting, making it a good spot for people-watching. We ordered two classic margaritas and the roasted cauliflower appetizer. With prices that were considerably high, we anticipated an exceptional experience. Unfortunately, the drinks were only three-quarters full, though the roasted cauliflower was fantastic -- beautifully presented and delicious. The young, curly-haired (with black rim glasses) attendant was attentive, asking about our experience every once in a while. He gets a 1-star in my book. On a fun and fancy note, the ladies' restroom was an exceptional experience -- clean, unique, and complete with an attendant serving champagne to guests, which provided a fun touch and garnered five stars from me. The experience took a turn for the worse when we went to pay our bill and discovered an error. My husband approached the blonde manager to rectify the situation, and she was understandably appalled at the bartender's mistake. We ordered the mac and cheese (3/5). The dish itself was very decadent, however the chicharonne beef on top was very dry and flavorless. The mushrooms were nicely roasted and not overly buttery that you can still taste the earthiness in it. UPDATE = The GM of the restaurant called me to discuss my review below, and seemed genuinely interested in the feedback, as he wanted to ensure the experience was better going forward. He was open to the feedback on the temperature and flavor of the food. He noted the mistake on the wine list and committed to changing the wine menu to reflect the correct wines. I went back for an anniversary dinner, and the experience was great. The service was always phenomenal (even though I didn't note it in my first review), the food issues seemed to be corrected. I didn't have dessert on my first outing, but we had two different deserts - Chocolate Decadence and Sticky Toffee Cake. I ate and drank so much that I had trouble sleeping that night as I was so full. Mallory the bartender was very engaging and conversational (without being intrusive), and Brandon our waiter was very attentive the entire time. Will definitely be back for both business and personal dinners! -------------- I REALLY wanted to love this place. GREAT atmosphere. Phenomenal service. However....... Food was mediocre at best. Steak was ok. Au gratin potatoes were warm and bland. The rolls/bread were not worth the hype. The wagyu meatball appetizers were bland and room temperature. Our waiter was very attentive but interrupted our business conversation multiple times and was completely unaware of the surroundings. His conversations were not muted and overtook our table and was intrusive. Atmosphere over substance of food. Hang out at the bar but skip the food. Lastly.....their wine list shows Austin Hope on the menu, but the actually serve Austin by Austin Hope.....a significant difference in quality and price. Very deceptive. read more

Overall - we had a great meal at Evelyn! This was our second visit here to dine, we came once before in May and wanted to return. Service here is always great, but we were a bit let down to know that they didn't have their sommelier anymore, it made picking our wine selection more difficult and he was great last time. Otherwise, our waiter was very nice and attentive throughout the evening! For the food we ordered - Roasted Cauliflower: they changed this from the last time we came, and it was SO good and blew away the old way. Absolutely delicious and flavorful. Wagyu Cheesesteak Bites: 10/10, we will always get these Parker House Rolls: I was hesitant on these because I usually don't like to fill up on bread, but boy were they worth it! They were so warm and the four butters were all great. Rigatoni: we both got this again and loved it! The chicken and burrata is so yummy with the pasta. Au Gratin Potatoes: they also changed these from the last time we came, and it was the one item that let us both down, mostly because the version they had last time with the pave was so amazing. We were both super sad they changed it, definitely not as good. Truffle Fries: delicious Overall, a few tweaks could improve the experience - our food came out almost a little too fast to fully enjoy our evening because it felt a bit rushed between courses. Also, we do wish the sommelier would be present next time. Our table request also wasn't honored, which is no big deal, but would be nice to have it recognized next time (we asked for a corner table but were put in the middle of two tables).
