Run, don't walk, to eventide in Fenway this month (nov 2022). Friends and I went to eventide for the first time because we saw our favorite restaurant's chef (Sarma. You gotta go to Sarma too) was doing a special on their menu so we naturally had to go. The special was the Armenian cheesesteak bao and it was SO GOOD and shockingly filling. Delicious and spicy and creamy. The bao from eventide is also so soft. We loved it. We also tried their lobster roll (delicious brown butter sauce) and chili crisp wings. I loved the wings. They were crispy and spicy. Highly recommend! This might be a slightly more pricey dinner but we really thought it was worth it. read more

We went before a Sox game and ordered the soft-shell crab sandwich, big mistake! The crab was covered in a thick coating which turned dark brown after frying it too long, giving the dish an unacceptable flavor, the sauce they put on it detracts from the sandwich and does nothing to enhance the taste. Soft-shelled crabs have a delicate flavor that has to be enjoyed without too much additional coating, strange sauce or excessive deep frying. (Hint; light flour coating, pan fry in butter & oil for a few minutes each side and serve.) Eventide missed the mark on this one, please keep it off the menu and find someone who knows how to prepare a decent soft-shell! The brown butter roll was incredibly disappointing. Even though it's "tapas" style, the amount of meat felt scant relative to the cold roll, which we also ordered. Having been (and loved) our meal at Eventide in Portland, it was a no-brainer to order a meal from the Boston version. While we had some sides and other items, I think the focus should be on their lobster roll as it was the main entree of my meal. It was around $30 and I wouldn't be exaggerating when I say it was 3 bites worth of food. The brown butter lobster roll is hands down the best lobster roll I've had. The lobster is tender and fresh. But the brown butter really brings it to a whole new level. The savory lobster pairs perfectly with the slightly sweet bread. The bread reminded me a bit of the bread bao buns are made of. It paired nicely with the kimchi. The acidity brightened up the lobster roll and helped cut some of the heaviness from the butter. It was also a good palette cleanser. However the lobster roll definitely doesn't NEED the kimchi, but I would recommend ordering it to try. It is important to note that calling their house made pickled vegetable side "kimchi" is misleading. This is not your traditional Korean kimchi, but nonetheless was still tasty. Worst customer service ever!! Last call for food at 8:45, last call's are for alcohol because of legal reasons, then they told my 87 year old mom she couldn't get more hot water for her tea because they where closing, this was the most offensive, rude and unprofessional way to treat guests, essentially considering our bill was north of $400, this place obviously has horrible leadership, food is good, service has always been been horrible, if they changed that they would be full all the time, in addition the 19% fee for kitchen is border line illegal if they are getting proper hourly wedges, guests can't afford 19% kitchen tip and 20% waiter tip, it's sneaky and unheard of, I'm sure if people noticed it more they would push back. C'mon folks, let's be honest. This place does not serve the best lobster rolls in Boston. Very unimpressed with the price to performance ratio. The lobster roll seems larger in pictures. In reality, the roll is as big as a kindergartner's fist. Since the breading is much smaller than the lobster meat, the dish makes it seem like you are getting a lot more meat. However, it is relative to placing food in a small plate v. a bigger plate. The perception of the amount of food you are getting is skewed based on the size of your plate. Straight physics. This place is a "try it for the first time but won't go back" deal. Nothing wrong with the flavor. In fact, I thoroughly enjoyed the wings. Love their dollar oyster happy hour! The limit is 2 dozen total per person, and each person can only order a dozen at a time. Outdoor dining is first come first served. The tables are spaced far apart from each other (some over 6 ft apart) and a good distance from the sidewalk. The employees bring hand sanitizer and disposable utensils to the table, and you order and pay through a QR code so the employees never have to handle your credit card. They had 3 different oysters when I visited, and you can choose however many of each you want in your half or full dozen. Their oysters come with different types of slushed sauces ("ice") and you can choose two. I loved the pickled red onion ice! I also got to try the horseradish ice and tabasco ice. They tasted the way I expected them to. If you're not feeling ice they also offer cocktail sauce. I also got to try their clam chowder ($12). The chowder is thinner than other chowders I've had before, but it had a very rich, umami flavor and was packed with clams. The chowder also came with these thick saltine crackers that had big crystals of salt on top. If you're in the mood to make your oyster happy hour a bit happier, they have a few beers on tap along with wine and other bottled beers. The Narragansett lager is $3 for a pint! read more

I love eventide! I love the Eventide Brown Butter Lobster Roll. I like the roll it comes in because it reminds me of Chinese buns! Their tuna crudo is so good. The sauce they put on it remind me of the chicken dipping sauce asian places provide - scallion ginger and oil. Very tasty! I also enjoy their soft serve! The clam chowder was a little thin so we didn't order a full bowl because the waitress bought us a sample and we all declined an order after tasting. I had very high expectations for Eventide given that my friend, who I have had an ongoing lobster roll competition with for many years, said this was her favorite of all time. After a 45 minute wait to get seated, we started with a dozen oysters which were fresh and delicious. We then moved on to the star of the show... lobster rolls. I ordered the plain with butter, and while it was good, it was far from the GOAT (greatest of all time). It was small (granted it had a smallish price to match compared to other places in the area), but the bun is really what turned me off. It was served in a bao bun, which is a rather thick doughy bread. I prefer the traditional light flaky type that doesn't overwhelm the lobster. Given the difficulty of finding parking and the lobster roll itself, not sure I would rush back. That said, my dining companions really liked it so it is simply a matter of preference. read more

Well kept place a few blocks from Fenway Park so easy to go to before a Sox game. The oysters were fresh and the onion ice it came with complemented them well. They have a good cocktail selection and beer menu too. French fries were very crispy and some of the better ones I have had. They tasted like very good and fancy upscale old McDonald's fries (which is a good thing). My only issue was how comically small the lobster roll was. I could fit the entire thing in one of my hands. Well I have to say, I was a bit underwhelmed by the roll personally. I don't know if it was because my expectations going in were already so high, or what, but I felt that the roll was smaller than I expected, considering it's $14.00, and it wasn't super flavorful. The lobster meat was fresh, and the bun was nice and buttery. But that's about all the good I have to say. I wouldn't say I didn't like it, but it definitely left me yearning for more. Great little raw bar with attentive staff! My wife and I were in New England for a couple of weeks and loved the Eventide location in Portland, ME so much we wanted to try the Fenway location on our way back home. This location is walking distance from several parking garages, making it easy to get to, even during rush hour. We came in around 630pm on a Friday and the staff made room for us at the bar near the windows facing the street. The bar doesn't seem big, but it is the perfect size for the oyster platters. Even though the location was very busy, the waitress came to check on us often, without being pushy/encouraging us to eat quickly. We were able to get in and out in about 25 min. We ordered 2 of the brown butter rolls and a dozen oysters. We relied on the staff to provide pick our oyster selection and weren't disappointed with the options. The rolls are smaller than traditional lobster rolls but they are incredible, and worth every penny! My wife and I prefer butter rolls over lobster salad so these are definitely up our alley. Definitely look to check this place out for a nice date the next time your out near Fenway! read more

One of the best meals I've had in a long time. The ambiance is nice: minimalistic, clean lines, oyster-bar feel and though you don't order online Eventide strikes me as the seafood cousin of Bartaco. With bar-height seating and small entree sizes, this restaurant has a tapas-like feel that makes it more casual than most sit down restaurants. The lobster roll was heavenly: pillowy bao bun with tender lobster meat in a warm brown butter sauce. The chicken katsu sandwich had a great flavor mix with the Chinese mustard and picked onion. The scallop roll had an interesting flavor profile with mint in it and I probably would get a second lobster roll over it for next time, but it was solid nonetheless. I will have to trust my boyfriend who said the oysters were great because I am still too afraid of raw oysters to try them. The 15% staff fee was interesting. It makes paying simple but I was unclear exactly whether that meant they don't take tips also. There was no space on the bill to give a tip. Would highly recommend coming here with foodie types. This place is such an interesting concept.. it is a has a fancy seafood/fusion vibe (with the quality seafood price tag) in a fast casual environment. Nonetheless, the food is delicious and great quality. We ordered half a dozen oysters, tuna tostada, tuna crudo, fish and chips, fried oyster bun, and brown butter ice cream. You would think that ordering this much for two people, it would be massive amounts of food..we were actually still hungry and so much poorer haha hence the 4 stars. Eventide, like some other businesses in the Fenway neighborhood, offers certain Red Sox based specials. 1) Dollar oysters on home game days from 7pm till close. 2) BOGO soft serve ice cream the day after the Sox wins a home game. (Yup, the Fenway Friday BOGO soft serve was a 2018 summer promotion.) Eventide is an order at the counter type of place, with seating mainly on high tops with a single shorter long community table in the back. I ended up treating myself to both soft serve flavors of the day ($6) - Brown Butter and Mango Lassi. They were quite different with Brown Butter being quite sweet and there being a tartness to the Lassi. Both however had a rather large whole in the center where there was no soft serve, and which was kind of a bummer. read more

I have walked by several times and finally came in when I was craving a lobster roll. It was empty on a Friday afternoon except one table. I was immediately helped by a staff member who took my order for take out, and rang me up. It was super fast turn around and the lobster roll even came before my water. Now my first impressions were "why does it look like that" and "why is it so small? " it was a warm lobster roll and the bun was nicely doughy. Although it didn't look like a traditional lobster roll, it was very tasty. My only complaint was I got 2 shell bits in my lobster roll. We started ordering a dozen oysters (wellfleet and Chatham) both fresh and sweet , clam chowders (different but good) yellowfin crudo , scallops crudo , chicken wings , and of course the buttery lobsters rolls . We came here after a Red Sox game and was really surprised how empty the restaurant was. The service was great and the dining area was very spacious. You order your food at the entrance of the restaurant, and then they'll call your order when it's ready. I ordered their small hot lobster roll as well as their small cold lobster roll. Although extremely tiny at $15 each, they were both very delicious. They were like bite sizes. Like these little amazing rolls, and you take one bite and then they're gone. I also ordered a cup of their clam chowder. Their cold lobster roll was of course their Maine style lobster roll. You get a decent amount of lobster meat covered in mayo, dill and lemon all stuffed in a griddled bun. Their hot lobster roll was covered in butter and tasted better than their cold lobster roll. Their New England clam chowder was tasty as well and had chunks of salt pork mixed in with potatoes, and clams of course. Eventide is definitely a must try place, but I would return anytime soon. Fenway park is down the street and was closed for a private event so my sister's first time in Boston had to get her some delicious seafood. Came here for a snack (shared all the food) and I could have eaten everything myself it was all so good. The tartare was at a great temperature especially on a hot day with the amazing fresh, crispy chips. I love Eventide - been to both their original location in Portland and used to frequent this location before moving out of state. This is a great spot to come before or after a game, while on the town bar hopping around fenway, or on a date. I love that their menu used to change so frequently; some standouts over the years are the crab toast, fluke crudo, fish & chips, and their many different sandwiches. They have a rotating beer/wine on tap and a great selection of different canned beverages that were great to please almost anyone. What's best about this spot during normal times is their laid back approach to seafood, so many spots in town are so fussy and overdone, but this is such a cool spot without being some ridiculous occasion. Covid unfortunately has had an effect on their business, with a limited menu and outdoor seating. They are managing it the best they can and the outdoor seating is as well appointed as possible. I can't wait to come here again once we can dine as we did pre-covid and see what they're up to here read more

The sea bass crudo...just WOW! The tangy hibiscus sauce served with it is out of this world. I sipped the sauce when I finished the fish, haha. So fresh! I'm craving more now as I write this! The seating is mostly bar seating and the stools are hard and uncomfortable, wish they would upgrade these. Other than that, this place is a hit! So we wanted a small bite to eat near our hotel. We walked by the Eventide earlier and ratings were decently good so we gave it a try. Looked nice, bright and modern from the outside and inside. We sat at the counter facing the outside to people watch. Seated quickly. Water came quick enough but the waiter took longer. Granted there were a good amount of patrons but the place wasn't swamped. Trying to get the check taken care of seemed very long. Why do they always go on break when I'm there!? Ordered oysters in the half shell. I asked for recommendations and told him what I was looking for. His recommendations were spot on. Very nice and briny. Cocktail sauce flavorful and not too spicy. Next was the Spicy Crispy Wings. 5 wingettes and 1 drumette. Kinda small. Crispy but flavor was pretty simple. Basic. Like chili oil with some peppers and a little garlic. Lobster Empanadas were a disappointment. Little filling, lots of dough and very little flavor. Served over some sliced Napa cabbage. Used leftover sauce from wings for flavor. Still craving a bit more, I asked waiter about littleneck clams. While not on the menu, he said he would check. Bingo! They had them, so we got 6 beautiful clams on the half shell. Delicious! So overall the ambiance was nice, location convenient, and raw shellfish good. The bad was usually the clams are priced less than oysters, but we're the same here. The chicken wings were subpar and Lobster Empanadas not good at all. So I might try again and try a few different things. Probably not. Just steer clear of wings and empanadas! read more
