I had THE worst fish & chips of my life: the fish consisted of one LOG (NOT a filet) of scrod featuring a thick coating of flavorless breading and the potato wedges probably have potential but were fried in fishy-smelling oil that seemed ripe to be changed. Saving grace was the side order of cole slaw, light mayo sauce with celery seeds. French fries at my table were INconsistent - some orders had long, nicely herbed full fries, but others were composed of short, crusty bits of fries from the bottom of the fryer basket - which should NEVER be brought to a customer's table! This was where I wanted to go. I went here alone to drink a beer on Saturday early evening. It was not a bad atmosphere drinking alone and probably having food. The dark-roasted beer was so smooth. I loved this restaurant. The staff was so kind and friendly. He told me the name of the beer I was drinking kindly. You can watch some sports games on a monitor on the back of the counter. We were in Maine the day before this and unfortunately, we were not able to stop by Eventide there (which was rated as one of the best lobster roll places), so we opted to have our lunch in the Boston location. My friends who ordered the lobster roll from the Boston location were not as satisfied, therefore, it does not seem that the Boston location is as supreme as the Maine location. Although the lobster roll was much more affordable compared to others, the portion is actually quite small. I ordered the fish sandwich which I thought was just okay. It lacked flavor and the tartare sauce was not much of a help. Their fries, though, were really good. The place is well taken care of with their great customer service. Lobster roll 9.43/10- this was actually incredible. The lobster roll was made with brown butter which made it sweet and it melts in your mouth. I love how they also didn't use a hotdog bun. My daughter said the place turned out to be New England seafood tapas and she was right. We started with a selection of raw oysters which are a particular favorite of mine. I heard about Eventide recently from a friend -- they described the brown butter lobster roll to me and I was quite intrigued. We visited on a whim while walking around Fenway on a Sunday night. We weren't that hungry so we just ordered a few things to sample the menu. The brown butter lobster roll ($19) looked extremely small on first glance, but did appear to have a bit more meat once we cut it open. The lobster was pretty good and the brown butter flavor complements it well. I liked the bao bun. This dish was pretty well executed but is quite pricey for what it is. We also got the fish charcuterie board ($24) which was very interesting. I like that we got to try a lot of different things. Most of the items were pretty mildly flavored. I enjoyed the pickled cornichons and scallions -- they had the most distinct flavors. This was definitely unlike any charcuterie board i've had before, but I'm not sure if it was good enough to get again. Lastly, we got the asparagus tempura ($12). This was pretty good, and I've never had asparagus tempura before. The seasoning on the asparagus wasn't strong, and the dipping sauce was too sweet for me. Some of the asparagus was really thick and hard to chew through. This was a light dish for being deep fried but I would've preferred a different seasoning The service and ambiance here are good, and the location is also great. We ate here last week and had a great dinner and great time! The food is so fresh and excellent. The Oysters were delicious that we started with as well as the calamari. We had their Spicy Bay Scallop Ramen which is out of this world! We also ordered the brown butter lobster roll which is one of the best lobster rolls I have ever had as well as thier kimchi. My daughter had their Smoked Tofu Sandwich which she said is one of the best sandwiches she has ever had. We finished with their Brown Butter Soft Serve that is so good. The brown butter lobster roll was the best lobster roll I've ever had. The bun was soft and buttery, similar to the joys of eating half baked cookies. The lobster was excellent quality and extremely juicy, flavorful, and test. The steamed bass was very good quality as well. I like how they have Asian fusion flavors on their menu. Their oyster selection was very nice and had some classic Asian dipping sauces. The seafood is of great quality and their beer selection is extensive. Their dining area is well decorated and well-lit, which I appreciated. Our server was nice and prompt with service. I ended up trying their lobster roll, which was soo delicious! I couldn't get over how yummy it was, probably because I was very strongly craving a lobster roll and this was quite satisfying. It was considerably smaller than most lobster rolls though, likely due to the bread used. This didn't bother me too much, I just tried to savor it as much as I could. Although we had been to a Sox game the day before, we trekked to the area just to try one of Eventide's Brown Butter Lobster Rolls. The roll is a few bites of pure heaven - the bun is a chewy "bao bun" texture filled with just enough lobster. Warning: these are too small to share. Enjoy your own! Other items we enjoyed included the green salad, a mushroom dish - huge mushrooms with an interesting taste (I love mushrooms but not something I would order again). Eventide is a popular restaurant from Portland Maine, who have recently expanded to Boston. Located steps from Fenway Park, the restaurant is casual, but refined enough for a nice date. Their Brown Butter Lobster Roll scored them a James Beard Award, and they offer a fantastic selection of local oysters. I started with the innovative "Dirty Dirty Martini", which features oyster vodka, olive brine, oyster brine, and hot sauce. I feared it would be overly salty, but it was perfect, tasting of the ocean in a way that was not cloying. My brothers enjoyed some IPAs from Maine, which were served ice cold. Get at least a dozen oysters. We opted for one of each of the day's offerings, and everything fresh and delicious. Some were naturally plump and sweet, others umami rich and savory. I also recommend the Caesar Salad, which is a large shareable portion, topped with huge Boquerones. The Brown Butter Lobster Roll lived up to the hype. The lobster was buttery, enhanced by the sauce, and served on a fluffy steamed bun. Interesting choice, but it really does work. I liked the Cold Lobster Roll even better; the high quality of ingredients was apparent. Skip the Fried Calamari, which was mostly breading. The Graffiti Eggplant had a unique black sesame sauce, but I found it to be under salted. The Whoopie Pie was dry. The oysters, soft serve, and lobster roll are the standouts, though given how far out of the way Fenway is for me (relatively speaking), not sure how often I'd come back. Also, try to look up game days to plan coming here in advance. No matter how you're coming into Boston (I definitely recommend bus or on foot, do NOT bring a car unless you want to be stuck in gridlock traffic), you'll have to wade through the crowds. Once you get past Jersey Street, it clears up a lot. Oysters: a must-get. I still don't have a good gauge for whether something is reasonable or I'm getting ripped off, but let's say each oyster is about $2.75-$3.50 each. Eventide gives you a full dozen for $31, which seems like a good deal to me. We got two of the six kinds featured that day - I liked the fatter, plumper ones. Lots of oyster juice and you get two sides to go with it (the kimchi ice seemed interesting but we stuck with just the red onion and cocktail sauce), though quite a few still had flecks of shell. Tuna tartare: a skip for me. We had originally ordered the tuna crudo and we got the tartare by mistake (though the waitress was super nice to comp our dessert). While the tuna was diced finely and mixed with some sort of citrus, it was overwhelmed by too-heavy of a dollop of wasabi sauce. It shot up my nostrils each time. Green salad: fine if you want some greens. I did like the nori vinaigrette dressing they used but the pickled carrots on top plus the dressing made it too sour. Lobster roll: definitely get! The bun for me was the best part: so soft and chewy, it reminded me of Japanese milk bread. I loved the cold lobster roll. Not large at all, I could have consumed one or two more. Brown sugar soft serve: again, definitely get! I'm usually not into soft serve but I couldn't stop reaching over another spoonful. Loved the brown sugar nuts they sprinkle on top. Since October, I have ordered this roll at least 3 times, and I wish I had gotten more than one each time. This lobster is small but mighty! Yep, exactly how I remember it from a few years ago before Covid started. This place has not lost any of its charm or quality. The brown butter lobster roll is still just as good, and I love that they've added a few things to the menu such as hotdogs and other bistro type items to keep everybody happy. Prices are high, but you get what you pay for. There is also outdoor seating, with attentive service. Restrooms are clean, the kitchen is open concept, and despite the high prices this is not a pretentious setting to enjoy a delicious lobster roll. I love the drink menu as well, as it has been thoughtfully curated. A great place to grab a meal if you're in Boston, especially if you were in the Fenway area.
