Anchorage has always been diverse and offered a variety of cuisines. You can get anything from authentic German food, to Ethiopian, Caribbean and pretty much every corner of Asia. But recently, it feels like we're starting to get restaurants that make the very best version of their particular cuisine. I think Everest falls into that category for Indian and Napali food. One of the biggest things I appreciate about their menu is the variety. I get tired of seeing the same old "stand by" items at Indian restaurants. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy them but they can be a little boring. India has over a billion people, they're not all eating the same 6 things. I can definitely vouch for the Aloo Tikki, crispy potato patties mixed with spices. It's delicious on it's own but the 2 chutney's on the side make it incredible. The tamarind chutney is sweet and velvety while the mint is bright and citrusy. I could make a meal out of that alone but I also had the Lamb Vindaloo which was equally amazing. You can tell the meat was braised for hours at a low temp by how incredibly tender the meat was. A lot of places in town cheat and practically boil the meat at high temp which makes it dry and mealy. It's faster but obviously not as good. I washed it all down with the Mango Lassi, a traditional yogurt drink mixed with spices. This place is a hidden gem and I will absolutely be back! read more

Nice environment but I usually get mine to go. Beautiful food! Absolutely delicious! Definitely my favorite Indian food town. With the food being most important (definitely 5 stars), I knocked off a star for what I hope are just growing pains and/or inexperienced staff. They have forgotten parts of my order when I order take-out - definitely check everything before you leave. To be fair, when I went back to pickup what they forgot, they gave me free samosas and a hot chai - so full points for that. When I have dined there, they have been very slow getting the food out - like 45 minutes from ordering - and then they forgot our appetizer and we had to ask for it. We happened upon this place for lunch. Their lunch special was a tray filled with rice, lentils, vegetables and a samosa, topped with your choice of curry. We tried Mattar Paneer (peas & cheese) and Chicken Tikka Masala and they were both amazingly delicious. Creamy with well balanced spices. I would eat these again and again. read more

The first authentic Indian food I ever ate was in the Aomori Prefecture in Japan. Having traveled extensively throughout the most foodie cities on the West Coast (San Francisco, L.A., San Diego, Seattle, Bellevue included), I can honestly say I haven't had any Butter Chicken, Tandoori Chicken, or Naan quite as good as Rawat's in Japan, until now. I swear I looked in the kitchen to see if my old friend was back there. The ambiance is top notch for Anchorage: immaculately clean, polished silverware, spotless plates and glasses, crisp uniformly folded linen napkins, pleasant and not too noisy music, warm and delightfully aromatic smells. The service is on point: the wait staff are friendly, sincere, and attentive. The chef and kitchen staff genuinely care about their food, and clearly put a lot of effort into making sure dishes are served fresh, even if it takes a little more time. We had the Saag Paneer, Butter Chicken, and Murg Tikka with plain Naan: all fantastic. The Saag isn't puréed, rather it's like a creamed spinach, the Murg Tikka is basically white meat only Tandoori Chicken, perfectly seasoned and somehow still juicy, the Naan was a bit fluffier than some of the other places in town. I'm going to be dreaming about that Butter Chicken tonight. Highly recommend this gem; looking forward to trying their other signature dishes. read more

Was so glad to find this place on Yelp. The atmosphere is great - used to be the Turnagain Arm Pit. We ordered a couple appetizers to go with our meal, and it all came out great. The garlic naan is amazing! It's definitely one of our favorite Anchorage restaurants now. read more

We went for our anniversary dinner to Everest and it was GREAT! My husband had the ground lamb shish kebab and I had tandoori chicken. We also ordered onion naan and raita. The entrees came with a generous portion of tandoori vegetables (onion, green and red peppers), and rice. The chicken (a half chicken!) was delicious and moist. The lamb was spiced just right and also really good. It took 45 minutes to cook in the tandoori oven which is what our waiter told us to expect. The meal cost about $65, not including tip, which is very fair. And we had enough leftovers for both of us the next day. We highly recommend Everest Restaurant. read more

Boy this is a find! The food is excellent,especially the cauliflower bites. The people are friendly and takeout was ready in 30 minutes. We enjoyed Lamb Rogan Josh, Goat Curry, and Saag Paneer over rice. All was very tasty. Being fairly new they offered us a 20% discount on our takeout meal. Tables were spread far enough apart I'd be willing to dine in next time. We'll definitely return. read more

Four of us ordered take out from the lunch menu and were pleased with the quick, friendly service. The food was flavorful and the perfect quantity. The chicken vindaloo had an enjoyable amount of spice. The other folks in our party had chicken tikka masala and biryani. Everyone enjoyed the delicious entrees. My husband and I ate lunch here on Saturday at the recommendation of a colleague who also loves Indian food. As other reviewers have mentioned, the staff were friendly and welcoming, and our server, Sam, was helpful and attentive. I decided to try some foods that I haven't seen before (thank you to the reviewer who pointed out the broader menu), so we ordered off the full menu, versus the "lunch specials" menu. We started with the Aloo Tikki appetizer, and it didn't disappoint. It came out quickly, four potato patties in the order, which was perfect for two people. The patties were nicely seasoned, crispy, hot, with the tamarind and mint chutneys on the side. For entrees my husband ordered the chicken vindaloo (he like things spicy...Sam told us the chef defaults to mild, but will make things spicy up to a maximum level "six"...not sure what that means, exactly, but the vindaloo at a "six"-level had plenty of spicy heat while allowing you to still taste all the nice seasoning.... my husband thinks a level "five" may be hot enough for next time! The vindaloo had lots of delicious perfectly cooked chicken, but almost no potato. Not sure if it was just my husband's portion, or if the potatoes were left out. Still enjoyable but surprising. I ordered the Navaranta Korma, a vegetarian dish with a mix of vegetables and dried fruit in a cream of cashew sauce. I asked for the heat level to be 4-5 (medium-hot) and it was perfect... just enough "kick". The dish was mildly sweet and comforting, I would definitely order it again. We ordered a side of plain naan, which was pillowy and delicious. We both had enough leftovers for a meal the next day. We look forward to coming back soon! read more
