Gluten free bread gets soggy really fast, wish they used a different product since you are paying extra for it, i'd rather pay more for something that holds up. Second time I came just after dinner for drinks. The bar top was full so we sat at a table in the bar area. The waitress seemed annoyed that we only wanted drinks, it ended up feeling pretty awkward. My husband, son and I decided to come for an early dinner on a Saturday - after having this place bookmarked for awhile! We are in Vancouver, but it looked promising and didn't mind the 15 min drive. Super cute building! Inside had a cute decor, almost an Oktoberfest feel like at Gustavs. Great service! We both had a beer and a flight to try some of their handcrafted beers! The red ale and the Oktoberfest were our favorites. We decided to order: - The clams in white wine sauce appetizer - be still my heart! The flavors in this dish were amazing! Would have liked more clams for the price ( about $15 ) but the flavors made up for it. - Chicken Shnitzel Sandwich on a pretzel bun - loved the concept, great flavors, original! - Steak Salad with spinach, onion straws, portobello mushrooms, blue cheese and red peppers - YUM! Steak cooked perfectly, had great flavor! The ingredients in all the dishes were extremely fresh, and the food felt inspired! My sons hamburger and fries weren't great, he didn't want to finish the dish - and the dishes are a smidge on the pricier end - however another visit to try some more items, could result in a 5 start! read more

This place was really really good! They accommodated our party of 13 on short notice. We were looking for a place to eat after snowshoeing. This place was awesome! Great food options, loved their Stout, excellent service, and very friendly folks there! I had the hummus plate which was really good. Most places don't give you enough pita bread or crackers but here I was stuffed by the time I was done! It came with tdzadziki, which I love too! There ended up being great music too! Excellent service with food to match. Soup of the day was vegetable and it's literally the best I've ever had or made....and I'm vegetarian and a good cook. Small kale salad was plenty and delicious. Several of our group (8 cyclists) got the vegetarian black bean soup and gave it thumbs up. One got a beet salad she enjoyed and another liked her Buddha bowl. It's a pub so a little loud, even at lunch, but business was great and that equals noise. Love this place! read more

Beer menu is very good and I like the change of beers. For that I would definitely give it four stars. BUT, I don't eat meat and I ordered a bowl of Black Bean Chili and was happy to think they had some vegetarian options. What I received was a can of tasteless black beans in a bowl. Not lying. No cheese on top, no tomatoes, onion, green pepper or spices. The most disgusting meal I have eaten in recent memory. Come on, how hard is it to make a chili? And if you're going to offer a can of black beans then at least explain that is what you're getting, this was NOT chili in any way, shape or form. Not even chili seasoning. That was a minus zero (-0) rating at best. It was so awful I was sick when I got home and that at least made me feel a little better. Did I hit it up on a night when they had a new cook? Not sure but I need to take awhile before I return and I guarantee, I will never, ever order that hot mess again. It's easier to buy a can myself and call it "chili". Either management needs to train or retrain their cooks or have them refer to a cookbook. They can find a decent recipe for black bean chili anywhere on google. read more

I was totally unimpressed with the food (even my drink wasn't very good ) and I think the prices are quite high for the quality (or lack of) BUT...it's a really pleasant place to just sit outside and our server couldn't have been nicer (and did a great job) So....I will probably go back for something like Happy Hour and order a safe drink (no mixed drinks and its hard to mess up a bottle of beer) and a simple appie. Their food is really good. Service is always cordial & efficient. The only fault I can find is with the carrot cake. First of all, it's adorable! Who doesn't like a cute dessert? I never get to talk to them about it bcz I always get it to go. I never have room for it there. I usually divide it & get two days out of it. But I feel it's more of a spice cake with frosting. No complaints with the frosting. It's delish. But seems like very few carrots, can't remember if there were any raisins but for sure there were no walnuts. Those are requirements for a great carrot cake to me. Model it after the carrot cake at the Claim Jumper's and you'll have a winner. read more

Visiting this small town restaurant was exciting hoping for a fantastic experience... though all we met was disappointment. Although atmosphere has massive potential, it is impossible to pass over ridiculous prices for simple food. No one is going to happily spend $26 on meatloaf or $19 for a protein free Cesar salad... I know times are tough but just stop. Meatloaf is historically a poor man's food. We purchased a "big" German pretzel that was pathetically disappointing, with an added $4 for a side of "cheese" (most every restaurant adds this to such an order because it's inferred) upon receiving the cheese it looks like your typical canned mean nacho cheese with absolutely nothing special about it. Nothing else was ordered because the extravagant prices and the disappointing appetizer did not encourage more waste of money. The manager was quick to remove the pretzel due to dissatisfaction which is great customer service. Although that is fantastic, they wouldn't have to lose money on such a low costing product if it was executed correctly. Too bad. We also ordered a "well" gin and tonic, a very simple and easy drink and it came out as a "specialty" cocktail that had ingredients you would never find in a gin and tonic and was overpriced. It was super disappointing and hard to drink. Overall a disappointing small town experience that will not be repeated. read more

Northwood has "Whiskey Wednesdays" with a choice of over 150 types of the best whiskey any establishment has to offer. This was a hard one to rate. The reason? There were four of us and there were some things we felt weren't quite a 5 star so those needed to be noted. However, three of us rated it a 4.5 and one rated it a 5 star. I probably should round up but there were some quirks. Then, of course, there is no half rating but we are a fan and 4 seems just right. This isn't a place just off the main drag in Battle Ground. You have to know where you're going and if you don't know the little town, you better have a GPS to find it. The outside is unique but nothing special about the inside. However, it was nicely laid out and the bar was separate from the restaurant eating tables. In addition to that, there was a kid's area in the back. It's a place to keep the children entertained. We just happened to show up on Monday. That's the day that Happy Hour lasts from 3:00 until close. We thought it pretty great. However, there is a caveat to that. Some of the food items are quite a bit smaller than regular menu items and you never know until you order it. For example, our first appetizer was the deep fried pickles. Actually, it isn't pickles ... that's pickle with an S. There was one deep fried pickle cut into thirds and served with ranch dressing. The price for the one pickle? $3.95. Now that's expensive. The pickle was delicious but definitely a rip-off. Another appetizer we ordered was nachos. The price for Happy Hour nachos was $5.25. That was a huge delicious serving. We just didn't know what they cut back and what they didn't. Other items ordered at our table were the fettuccine alfredo from the Happy Hour menu and smoked salmon alfredo from the dinner menu. The Happy Hour size was perfect and the regular menu size was huge. Steamer clams were ordered from the Happy Hour menu. They are the same size as the dinner menu. The food served was delicious and the service was great. Regular menu items were pretty expensive but it is what it is. We all enjoyed Northwood's and I'm sure will return. read more

Just paid 24.95 for a steak salad that was worth 1/2 of that for a take-out order. The spinach was not trimmed with long chewy stalks, the portobello mushrooms advertised were canned crimini instead and the meat was flank steak served on the side in 1 " x 2" pieces which I had to slice myself. After slicing the end of my finger off I wasn't too hungry in eating. I don't care if prices have gone up after Covid - I could have bought a so-so meal at a 3 star restaurant that would have been better prepared over what this mess turned out to be for a grand total of $31. There are too few decent restaurants in Battle Ground - this one is just another example of what residents have to put up with. Guess I would rather have a can of soup at home than come here/order a meal again. read more

This is a nice little dig in a cute neighborhood. The place is big with very high ceilings, and plenty of seating. Upon looking around, I felt like I was in the movie Shrek for some reason. It has that type of feel and theme with the colors and pictures on the walls. Pretty cool. We were greeted and seated promptly. Our server was super nice; I didnt catch her name, but she had really short blonde dyed hair. Great and fast service. We got the nachos in large, which we split among 3 people. This was definitely a large size, and could even be split with 4-5 people even. My friends got the beet salad and the ahi tuna salad, which they both liked. I got the burger with the egg and bacon, supposedly their most popular. I chose the clam chowder to go with it, which was pretty good. The burger itself was good, but my egg was well cooked (no beautiful yolk dripping like most joints) and my medium rare was more on the medium to well done side. Other than that, I'd come back if I were in the area because everything was pleasant overall. For the management: Just make sure the cooks are paying more attention to how well some dishes are cooked or heated because the place wasn't even very busy when we came in (around 4pm). Unless the egg comes in the burger without being runny and medium rare is more on the cooked side, you need to tell the customer that.
