Don't be fooled! There is nothing excellent about this "nail salon". I'm only giving them one star because Yelp forces us to. I needed to get an appointment to get a fill-in and a pedi. I called the day before to make an appointment because my regular shop is closed for reconstruction and this place is close to work. I think that this is going to be great because of the Yelp reviews. I get there early and everything. When I see how affordable it is I think I can get a soak off and get a new set. So when the older lady tells me that it is time for my pedicure I let her know that I would like a fill in. I honestly didn't think it would be a big deal since it is only one other person in there and there are only two people working. So as I am getting my polish removed off of my toes, I ask if we can begin soaking my nails off while I am getting the pedicure. The older lady says something to the younger women, who then comes over and asks what I want I let her know I want a soak off with the American manicure. She goes on to tell me that she can still do that with a fill in. I say, no I would like soak off. She then says why? I was shocked because of the tone that she said it and taken aback because most places give the customers what they want. I could tell that she was either lazy or TOO lazy to do it (yes, I meant to repeat it), so I said never mind I will just stick with the pedicure. I could tell that they could tell I was upset as they tried to over talk to me offer me other services. I was very tight lipped and only responded with the required pleasantries of thank you or no thank you etc. My pedicure was just as bad. The water was cold, I asked for warmer. I wasn't even given a chance to soak my feet before she started working on them. The description says that we get a 15 minute massage so I was excited. Needless to say the older lady did not massage me...she simply rubbed my legs. And when she painted my toes she caked so much of the polish on some of the toes that they look clumpy and polish is on the cuticle of some of my toes. had a great experience here. had little to no communication problems. ladies were friendly. i was charged $45 for both mani and pedi, most basic pedi option and a $5 extra charge for the white nail polish i picked (wish i knew why though?). it was a saturday and they had a lot of regulars come in - a good sign of a business that builds strong relationships. ~$50 seems to be market price in the south bay area for mani and pedi (basic polish, not shellac). the polish lasted a week before it started to chip. i would come here again! read more

This place is great. I work down the street 3 blocks away and I never even knew that such a great nail salon was so close by. I desperately needed a manicure and pedicure but had seriously been procrastinating getting them. One day after work I searched Yelp and found this gem. I walked in at 5:30 p.m. on a Thursday afternoon and was taken right away. The ladies here are super sweet and will give you whatever your pretty little heart desires. After coming here and being pampered and spoiled to the max, I am now over the dozens of other salons I've been to where the ladies doing my nails make faces at my dry heels and comments to each other about the job the prior salon did on my nails or talk to each other in their own language while they ignore me and are bothered when I speak out about wanting my nails shaped or painted a particular way. Here, she welcomed and embraced my letting her know that I wanted to keep my length and desired a "square-but-not-too-square" shape and that I wanted my nail polish applied far from my cuticles so that the paint was not smeared all over my skin. When I stated proudly, "sorry, I'm picky" she responded with "that's okay, here you will get whatever you want...we are here to pamper you!" They did an amazing job with both my pedicure and manicure and took their time and paid attention to detail, making sure that my nails were shaped just perfectly and that I was happy every step of the way. They even tested the colors I had picked on my nails before starting to make sure I was happy with the colors I had picked (I can't tell you how many times I've picked a color and once it was applied it looked nothing like what it looked like in the bottle or what I thought it would look like and when I voiced my disappointment all I got was an "oh well...too late now..."). If I had to nitpick about anything, I would just say that the pedicure service I picked (the most expensive one) - I picked specifically for the 20 minute massage and I really only got about 15 minutes. I also was supposed to begin with a mint soak, which I didn't recall getting (it was just a standard soak in hot water). Normally, I would be bummed and feel a little jilted, but the service and the ladies totally made up for those small oversights. I really think I've found my new nail salon. Next time I'll likely call and make an appointment. It's even convenient to run over at lunchtime and get a quick mani or pedi. If you're debating trying this place, just do it. You won't be disappointed. read more

Decided to try a new nail salon last night and it did not disappoint! I did not have an appointment and they were very nice in letting me know that the wait time was about 15 minutes - not bad at all. They ended up taking me a little earlier than the 15 minutes. I got a manicure and pedicure and the workers were so very nice. I think one of them was name Veronica? Not sure of the name (I need to get better with remembering the names). I felt very relaxed during the entire time and did not feel like I had to be chatty nor were the workers chatty, which was great! I'm from out-of-town, and Kim gave me a very nice pedicure for the Thanksgiving holiday. The manicure wasn't great, but she offered to let me come back later in the day (since I had an appointment and had to leave) and they would fix it. And, they did! Leanne put polish on my nails later in the day, and it was perfect! It was super convenient since I was going to get my hair done next door later in the day. Long overdue review of Excellent Nails! My sister and I went in and got gel manis. They did a great job, took their time, chatted with us, were friendly, and pricing is on par with other places in the area (a little cheaper than some). Their customer service and quality of nail care is great! PLUS: My gel mani weirdly turned an ugly ivory color after a couple days (it was light pink). I felt bad, but went back to ask if they could change it, expecting to pay at least some fee. Nope! They remembered me, knew I had chosen the pink color (remember the exact one, even), and completely re-did a gel mani on me for no cost at all. Amazing! They also made a note of it and took out that color. Really just great customer service. Unfortunately, I moved away for school, but you can bet that when I'm home, I'm going here for my nails! Made a reservation with Lien on my way home, so it wasn't planned ahead of time. The salon is courteous, friendly, delightful. Lien offered me a choice of gel nail colors to browse I prefer nude shades and she didn't disappoint. She did an extraordinary job, patient and precise the way I enjoy. Afterwards when finished she did a wonderful hand massage. She offered me water or green tea which was delicious. We conversed on hair salons and places around the area while working. My nails look spectacular I've received compliments last night and today. I highly recommend this nail salon you won't be disappointed. Lien is my personal choice to do my nails now. However, everyone else seem to be spectacular in their field judging from the high volume of clientele. read more

Love Love Love This Place, I've been getting my nails done with Sandy, every 2 weeks for the past 4 years.She is such a great artist and she always takes very good care of her clients. Not to mention, she takes care of you quickly, but you would never know it from the great and professional work she does. She is a perfectionist like I am ,and she always makes sure I leave happy. I always get gel's and you know she uses the best products here when the nails look perfect even after 2-3 weeks! No chips no breaks. Just had a Gelish Mani/Pedi at Excellent Nails on Castro. I walked in intending to just have a Mani as it was 6.30 and they close at 7.30. Luckily two technicians were free to work on me at the same time. They were both meticulous with the nail prep, spent an hour soaking off my old Shellac and prepped my nails to perfection. They both took their time to apply the Gelish carefully and followed up with a lovely warm hot stone massage. Highly recommend this clean & friendly salon. read more

Only 4 days later and my pedi chipped. I can tell the polish is intentionally thinned out. Massage felt like nothing. And my nail was clipped to short, hurt for a week, I've never had that happen at a place. Lastly, I had a gift card they didn't except no exp date on it and by CA Law gift cards never expire! Bad business, your really willing to not forgo $20 to have me never come back and leave this review. I didn't want to leave a bad review but when that many things are bad about the experience and the polish chipped that was the final straw besides not honoring my gift card. Sandy is the best. I have been going to her salon for more than two years now and I got used to having perfect nails. I do the pink and white crystals, which are a type of acrylics that keeps forever, and I only do fills every three to four weeks. My nails still look great after 3 weeks, it's amazing especially because I am an nail biter. Can't say enough of Sandy. Even send over my husband for a pedicure and she did marvels with his ingrown nail problems. read more
