Well. Took it back because of Gary. Had issues with smogging and took it in to see if it was because of prior mistake made by them (putting in the wrong oil). Guy at the counter gave me the same false information about it being anything related to oil, because when I changed it back to 10w30 the burn through subsided (and they even added an oil thickener). I've been taking my car to expertec for a few years now on recommendation of my father in law, and they are a staple in my life now. I feel they are my neighborhood mechanic and that I know the team personally. I trust them with my car, and to always provide me their honest assessments, solutions that work for ME, and get the job done well and at a low cost. I would trust them with any car problem - most importantly to get the job done right, but I also trust them to be honest, provide fair and competitive prices, be communicative, and work to provide me the best service possible. The staff at expertec are incredibly knowledgeable, patient, communicative, transparent and diligent. I know that Matt and Gary will always work their best to give me all options and find the most affordable solution, without compromising the quality of their service or my car's repair. I really do feel that they go out of their way to give me the best service and find the right solution for ME. On various occasions where another mechanic might make an easy buck off of me, they laid down the facts, all the options, their professional recommendations, and quality solutions to save me money in the near term and the future, maybe even at the expense of their bottom line. I have also found that expertec's prices are lower than other mechanics in the area. When I've done my due diligence and shopped around, expertec's quotes have consistently been lower. Most recently I went into Expertec to replace my malfunctioning PCM. First, Gary tried to find a no/low cost solution and explicitly told me they didn't want to see may pay upwards of $2000 for a component that in their experience could malfunction again if there were easy solutions. (Chrysler/Jeep PCMs are notoriously faulty). When we unfortunately couldn't find a no/cost free solution, Matt laid out my options, found me the best deals on both, (significantly lower than costs elsewhere), and made their professional recommendations clearly, and thoroughly in a way I could understand. When it came to procuring the part, they were diligent and communicative. I've learned procuring parts from Jeep is a bit slow from various sources including the Jeep dealership themselves, and Matt diligently kept on it, let me know the status regularly, and stayed by my side through and through. They turned around the actual repair incredibly speedily, and it works like a charm. DONT GET HUSTLED! I went in for my first time for an oil change and they told me I needed to get my brakes and rotars replaced for about 600-$1000. "The brakes are down to 1/32 of their life and the rotars are ruined". When I asked how far I could drive it before needing to replace they said "I wouldn't even drive it home (about 2 miles for me)". Thinking this to be odd and since I don't maintain my car myself, I took it to my trusted mechanic who called me laughing, he said there was about 1/2 life on my brakes and nothing wrong with my brakes, rotars or anything else on my car. These guys are so honest and it is sure a breath of fresh air! I thought I needed a 30,000 mike service but when I called they said let us do an inspection first to make sure that's what you need! The headlight bulb on my Toyota Camry burned out, and I did not want to go to the dealer for something that simple. Brought my MINI to ExperTec Costa Mesa for an alignment after finding them online. David was extremely helpful, offering advice and suggestions over the phone before I even came in. I just put new tires on after the old set was balding really badly in the corners on a low mile car (under 20k). Turns out a combination of alignment issues was probably contributing, and ExperTec was able to correct it. They even started out offering to check the alignment free before making any corrections. Service was fast and very fairly priced with no up-selling, they just helped me understand what was needed. They also have a nice waiting area and amenities. Update: I have a new car and called the Dealership this morning and as of 1330 no one returned my call where I left detailed questions about my service contract and if what I needed was covered.
