They charged me $ 3,000 to remove the smog light on my dashboard and about 10 days later it reappeared. Also they kept my car for 8 days and never gave me a loaner car. Gary is the manager at the Costa mesa store and is the worse manager that I ever encountered in my life because he never kept in contact with me until he thought everything was finished. If you have censors always take it to the dealer because they have the codes to fix it properly. read more

This place is such a gem. I originally got a Groupon for an oil change and I just kept coming back because of the great service they always always always provide. Always amazing customer service. I'm a broke college student in need of repairs and Gary sat down with me and explained that I don't need the repairs that i thought I did(previously by another repair shop) He told me to save my money for a later date since it's nothing urgent. This auto-shop is a a real genuine place and its refreshing! I'm moving and I wish I could bring my car here every time. They don't try to trick you or anything like that. They're humble and theyre great! For someone that doesn't have a lot of money to spare, they've been very kind to me instead of turning me away or pressuring me into spending money I don't have. These guys are awesome! It seems like dealers lure people in with competitive oil change prices then jack up the prices on jobs that are less common. Whenever that happens we bring our cars to Expertec and Matt and Gary always give us a fair price. Was quoted $600 for a spark plug replacement on our Accord and Matt helped us get it done for $200. They work on lots of different cars too and helped replace my VW GTI's PCV valve when it decided to give up. Capable and fair shop - definitely worth it to call them for a quote if your car needs anything outside of oil changes / tire rotations. read more

Heard Matt on a local radio station today and called in about an irritating rear panel window on my bordering classic car that would not go down. I knew it was either a window regulator or small electrical issue but my own skills are limited to the engine compartment particularly when it comes to taking off interior panels. Matt was confident he or one of his experienced mechanics could diagnose and fix it. Sure enough ExperTec did, honestly and fairly fixing the electric issue for a really reasonable price given I know the work involved and best? Did not try to upsell me to a regulator which I figured likely wasn't required anyway. This seemingly small detail reflects an honest mechanic and company. May not be the least expensive but beware: Least expensive may well result in the upsell you might never know was not needed. Or? I've been coming here consistently for oil changes and they've treated me very considerately. I usually stop in at 8 am and get to work at 9 am no porblem. This last time they had a back up from the night before (glad they have a lot of business) and said there might be a delay. I mentioned my work schedule and Gary automatically said, "don't worry about it." Stepped outside and spoke to the mechanics and shuffled around the order. I sincerely appreciate that level of service. At other places I have heard something like, "There's nothing we can do about do" and had to Uber to work. They understand that people are busy and they do their best to accommodate your schedule as well as service your vehicle. I haven't been here for a major repair but from the smiles I see on other customer's faces, I would definitely come to Expertec before anywhere else. A groupon deal brought me in here for an oil change and I was so impressed everything from their phone etiquette before I even arrived and their in person service. I drive a semi piece of shit at the moment and they found a plethora of problems during the oil change inspection (kudos for doing such a thorough inspection for just an oil change by the way) which they disclosed to me but did not pressure me into fixing any of it. I told them I wasn't looking to fix anything, just maintain the car for another six months until I get my brand new car and the man behind the desk assured me that my car would last until then just fine and told me I could forget the list then if I'm about to get a new car. No scamming or up selling to fix something that needed not be fixed. I haven't been this impressed with someone's service in a very very long time, restaurants and retail shops included. This routine oil change with a coupon went very smoothly - there was an upcharge for synthetic oil (required by the manufacture), but it was still far less than the dealership. The service also included tire rotation and multi-point inspection, which included a text and link to a report of my car's condition - very efficient. They send you a comprehensive list of your 46 point inspection with green, yellow and red flags with pictures and notes from the tech. I can't say enough good things about ExpetTec! I have had everything done here from oil changes to some major work due to overheating problems (replaced all engine timing chains, the water pump, Drive belts, and all seals and gaskets). The entire staff is wonderful and customer service couldn't be any better. I drive an older car, a Saturn Sky Redline, that has not been made for several years, and required a lot of special order parts in order to do some major repairs. Don was awesome, calling me on almost a daily basis to update me on the progress of repairs and status of the special order parts. He also explained very clearly what repairs were being made and why they needed to be repaired. Their pricing is very fair, and even came in less than the original estimate! Since my car had to be in the shop for an extended period of time, they were able to save me even more money by providing a loaner car! That saved me a couple of hundred dollars at least, in rental car fees. I highly recommend ExperTec for any of your auto service or repair needs. read more

Hands down one of the best repair shops I've ever been to. The timing belt on my Lexus is due for a replacement and I'm really glad I chose ExperTec and have them perform this service. Price was reasonable and I have nothing to complain about so far. Couple weeks later my girlfriend's Tahoe started to develop a coolant leak. Called Gary and he said he can check it out for free. Brought the car in and sound out it's the water pump that's leaking. Gary gave me a great deal and suggested me replacing serpentine belt kit. The belt has been squeaking really bad during cold start ups so I already have the belt kit ready, but didn't have time to replace it. I informed Gary about this and he offers to throw in the belt kits FREE OF CHARGE because techs are going to take off belt components to replace the water pump anyway. I'm really really happy about this deal! As always, they did the service on time and fixed the Tahoe right up. I'm impressed with both their attitude towards customers and quality of their work.
