No I don't wanna leave a message for you to call me back if you're going to be in the customer service business please answer your phone. 2. You are receptionist/vet tech? Is very rude snippety and short on the phone. Not good customer service off the bat. Very offputting. 3. For some reason, they require a $119 deposit just for making an appointment that is four weeks out because there are no available appointments sooner. Why $119 deposit? The receptionist told me is because people do not show up well that's not my fault. That's just the territory you have to venture into when you deal with customer service. We have had issues such as post cancer on the eye, chronic dryness, corneal tear, etc. and I am satisfied that we received very good care. The doctor does a thorough examination and records his specific findings each time. He explains everything. Melissa the tech assistant is very pleasant as is Alyssa up front. I had an absolutely wonderful experience with staff and Dr Shifrin at Eyecare for Animals Veterinarian Clinic. Rey has scars on his eyes; Dr Shifrin examined his eyes, explained what the spots are and the different potential causes as well as potential short and long term outcomes. I learned a lot in a short time. He did all this thoroughly, patiently, and with a kind, fun personality. His staff were warm and welcoming It's stressful to be concerned about any kind of problem, none more-so than the eyes in my opinion. The Dr and his wonderful staff made it a very pleasant experience and, in the end... the bill was better than I expected for a specialist. I would give a 6 out of 5 stars if I could!!! His conclusion regarding Rey's eyes: nothing to worry about or do about it at this time. Absolute worst experience ever. In January, I returned from vacation to find my dog had an eye problem that looked like it might be glaucoma. I immediately brought him to my vet on 1/7 and he said my dog had a detached lens, gave him a steroid and pain meds, and said I should either schedule him with Eye Care for Animals Austin or that other famous facility with an 'M' in title located in College Station. I was initially concerned about driving the distance to College Station, (particularly if there would be follow-ups), so I called this Austin facility for care instead. As a new patient, I could not be seen until 2/24. I assumed this would be the standard response of any care center (I was wrong). Anyway, at 11:00 a.m. Odie was seen and the eye care doctor recommended a "lens couching" (pushing the lens behind the eye). She did say that it was best if this was accomplished within a few weeks of detecting the issue, and I explained it wasn't my negligence but their requirement that I wait for so long, but she thought this would still be possible. $1,219 later, this was done (minus the $97 prepayment required to hold the appointment with them). Med scripts were sent to Walmart, and I was sent home with Latanoprost Ophthalmic Solution. I followed instructions and waited until 6:00 p.m. to place a drop in the eye. By 9:00 p.m. Odie was in distress and whimpering, so I gave him one more drop. By 10:00 pm. his eye was completely closed, swollen, milky pus coming out, angry red lids. My discharge summary said to discontinue drops if these conditions were evident. At midnight I gave him Gabapentin from my script, as Walmart sent no text for med pickup (it seems the meds were never called in). My capsules are 300 mg versus the prescribed 100 mg, so I opened the capsule and dumped out 2/3rds, giving it to him in a pill pocket. Since this helped, I did the same thing this morning. At 9:01 a.m. I called and asked that he be seen. "we're fully booked and can't see him". I explained it was very serious and I would drive there and wait all day if need be. "Send us some pictures", which I did. An hour later I called to ask about that. "she's with a patient and hasn't been able to look at them". Around 11:30 a.m. I got a call that he could possibly be worked in between appointments at 3:00 p.m. I called College Station instead and was told he could be seen right away, they are open 24 hours, no new patient appointment weeks down the road required, no excuses given about being fully booked. I canceled with Eye No-Care and drove to College Station. Completely different experience. Odie was rushed in immediately, and they spent about 1 1/2 hours attempting to stabilize him. It is now not possible to save the eye. In fact, they said their instrument to read eye pressure stops at 99 and his was beyond that. He goes in for surgery tomorrow to remove the eye for $3,000. They assured me they would give him pain meds, an IV drip, food, and would be walked (since he wasn't able to go at all today). If you are with Austin No-Care, do not attempt to contact me, there is nothing I have to say to you for the deplorable and compassionless total lack of concern for my Odie. I wouldn't return back even if yours was the very last place on earth. read more

I feel so fortunate to have gotten an appointment with Dr. Shifrin at Eye Care for Animals when my dog Tica got bitten by a rattlesnake in her eye. I could not believe how in-depth the appointment was with first the pressure test, and he examined her with at least two different pieces of equipment. Afterward, he took a lot of time to chart her eye and add all his notes on this special kind of tablet. He charts everything when you are there to ensure his report is totally accurate. Then afterwards, he goes into a lot of detail explaining his findings. In my dog's case, the pressure was very high, so she was blind, and she had an infection and corneal ulcer. Her follow-up exam was a little better, and again, he spent a lot of time explaining what was going on with her eye, what to expect, and what to look for should her eye get worse. The veterinary assistants Jaclyn and Astrid were very nice too and they type all the instructions up for you and ensure you understand the dosage and prescription schedule. Her eye is more open, so I am hopeful she may not lose it, but whatever happens, I know my dog is getting the best care possible from Dr. Shifrin at Eye Care for Animals. Thank you! read more

All staff we were in contact with to make appointment and arrival/check-in were pleasant, knowledgeable, and efficient. We took our 10-year old diabetic dog in to have his blindness level and overall eye health checked, and to get insight as to whether he might be a candidate for cataract removal surgery (lense replacement) and related estimated costs. Dr Shifrin, who is kind and patient, very thoroughly evaluated Joey's eyes and afterward spent a lot of time explaining everything to us in terms we could understand. He answered all our questions. We highly recommend him. In our case, Joey did qualify to go to the next detailed exam step to determine lense replacement qualification. However, we consider the costs for the next exam and then the surgery on both eyes to be very expensive. While we are discussing pros and cons, we are having our regular vet perform Joey's biannual detailed bloodwork and quarterly glucose curve tomorrow before we make the final decision on whether to proceed with eye surgery. read more

The waiting room had complimentary fresh brewed coffee, and treats for the pets! Yasss! The staff was extremely kind and helpful, and were so good to the animals. There was hardly any wait to see the vet, and they did a great job checking things out. They'll keep your dog's puppy dog eyes lookin' great! They gave careful explanations regarding the diagnosis, and the treatment, and took plenty of time to answer questions. They seemed to be quite well versed in veterinarian science, and even had charts on the walls to demonstrate what they're talking about regarding animal eyes. This is a great place and they really care for your babies. The reason they didn't receive 5 stars is because it is very hard to get an appointment. My dog had a critical injury to her eye but we could not see the doctor until 1 week later. She was seen by two vets but they are not eye specialists. My dog's eye grew increasingly worse. She was in pain and it looked so horrible. By the time we were able to go to the appointment, the best option for her was to remove the eye. I know it is not their fault but I just don't understand why in this large city and surrounding area that there is only one place she could go to be seen by an Ophthalmologist? There is such a critical shortage of vets and vet specialists. Very sad for a city that is so animal-friendly. read more

BUYER BEWARE - just had a checkup and as they are a "paperless" office, didn't see the detailed invoice when I was at the office. When I got home and opened the attachment, the price they charged me for the prescription...$64.95 when I had the last refill at Costco for $14.98. There were no coupons and I don't have insurance. I called to return it, but the women said no way it's against the law to return prescription after taken from the office. No one reviewed the invoice with me prior to leaving so I think this is a scam. I asked for a credit and she said the drug company tells them what to charge, not likely. read more

I came here as recommended by my vet after discovering that my dachshunds' eye ulcer wasn't healing (he and my husky had gotten into a scuffle and the result was a scratched eye, which we sought treatment for right away with no results). I was a little wary given that they had quoted me $190 just for the initial visit...but you gotta do what's best for your fur babies! I arrived early for my visit and did have quite a long wait, but the staff was super friendly and made me feel very comfortable. It was obvious they had a lot of patients that day. When they finally did see my Oliver, Dr. Shifrin was quick and comforting, and told me the best options for Ollie. He summarized the research and different studies conducted for his suggested treatment, and when I agreed he did it that very day! Ollie received the diamond burr procedure, and as the Dr. predicted, his eye healed within two weeks! The total cost included two office visits, the procedure, and 3 medications, costing me roughly $700. To me, this was totally worth it and actually really affordable given my dog underwent a non-invasive surgery. I normally prefer to forgive business who accidentally making some mistakes, because everyone make some minor mistakes, no one is perfect. But my dog's story is very different that I need to address to everyone because this is about lives... My dog Snowy, Bichon Frise 12 yr who has eyes problem. I found " Eye Care for Animals" in Metric Boulevard. Dr. Dustin Dees preformed the exam for Snowy. He said Snowy has moderate epiphora, conjunctival hyperemia, and Large geopgraphic superficial corneal ulcers with non-adherent epithelial edges consistent with chronic indolent corneal ulcers. I know Snowy's about 80% blind that time, because she bumped to things all the time, and when I turned toward her, she didn't move, so I bumped to her sometimes. Her eyes appeared a lot of white color covered her pupil, very cloudy. I went to Eye Care For Animals on April 2016. Dr. Dees said, Snowy can see perfectly. I knew right the way he was WRONG, VERY MUCH OFF. After heard that, all he said about Snowy's eyes, I couldn't trust any word he said. He wanted to do a surgical procedure called " Diamond burr Debridement" on her and charge me over $800. I said NO. I wouldn't do it. He tried to sell me Oral Analgesics, of course I declined too, because his diagnosis was TOTLLY WRONG, AND RIDICULOUS!!! I walked out of there with only accept one medication which is an Antibiotic drop- Tobramycin Ophthalmic Solution. I accepted that because I knew Snowy's eye has some kind of discomfort, I just want to make her feel at least not in pain. I paid about $240 for only one small bottle drop with a wrong DIAGOSIS. After that visit, I almost give up on treating her because I failed trust in a Veterinarian. I can't keep on spending money for one of my dog, and it didn't help her at all. Every Vet's visit is expensive. I was very disappointed and sad....everyday looking Snowy's eye, I am suffering... After 6 months later, I heard one of friend told me, his dog went to "Veterinary eye center" and got a great result. I saw Snowy's eyes everyday and feel so bad that she might be suffering in pain, so I finally decided to give it another try.... Wow! this time was a totally different story. Dr. Audrey Yu-Speight preformed the exam on Snowy, found her has very severe dry eyes. Her eye appears cloudiness are due to keratoconjunctivitis sicca or decreased tear production. When an inadequate level of tears is present, the eye produces thick mucus....this theory made much more sense to me. I accepted Dr. Audrey's treatment. After one week, we were back for re-check. Snowy's eyes improved sooooo much that I almost think this is a miracle. Before this visit to Veterinary Eye center, I wouldn't believe there's one week. Snowy is able to see again. Now Snowy sees better, she follow my hand to right and left,...Wow, unbelievable!!! It's only been on treatment for one week!!! What Dr. Dees did a wrong diagnosis almost costs Snowy more damage. I AM SO GLAD I DIDN'T LET HIM DO " DIAMOND BURR DEBRIDEMENT" procedure......That would have been a total DISASTER.... read more

Our Boston Terrier had an ulcer in her eye that did not respond well to 2 courses of antibiotics over a months time with our regular vet. I am in TX on a VERY extended visit due to the pandemic and have had multiple issues come up with my French Bulldog Chloe. While visiting the military facility, I was told that my dog had an eye ulcer and needed to see a specialist immediately which is how I came to find Eye Care for Animals Austin and Dr. Dees. To say I was stressed when I called was an understatement and Kevin was so kind and helpful and worked me in the very next day. I had the chance to go into the clinic and meet them in person for the first surgery, before the lock down went into effect. They all, from front desk, to Dr. Dees to his assistants, were amazing. When Chloe was to return for her re-check, Dr. Dees offered to look at my other dog, Riley's eyes for me, at no charge.....who does that???? I am so glad he did, as he caught a problem in the early stage and we are able to treat it with ointment and not surgery. Unfortunately, my girl Chloe, needed surgery on her other eye and has had to go back in between visits for a complication that arose. This is now all happening during the phase of us all wearing masks and not being allowed inside, which is stressful for everyone, our fur babies included. Our dog 10 years old had cataract problems both eyes so our vet recommended this clinic, in short they asked $ 5,000 for two eyes and we accepted. When we went to take our dog, he seemed more dead than alive. I was asked how did the operation and the surgeon told me that one eye is ok however the right one during the operation pierced the gel inside the eye so blind in that eye will remain ..... . Speechless ..... the most ridiculous thing is that we had to pay for the operation with a small confrontation because it was not possible to insert the lens inside the eye that he had torn. and to make matters worse we paid for all the damage that the surgeon has caused. I pray the people who want to go to this clinic to forget because they do not love your animals but they are just business .... The surgeon should not even good for a butcher. Rude, ignorant and arrogant, personally as I know I got a lot a lot and still very close to give him a punch in the face so that it can no longer do serious damage to this poor animal read more

I was referred to Dr. Mark Shifrin, DVM by West Lynn Vet Clinic because my Boston Terrier's recurring cherry eye (she had already had 1 surgery in rescue). In our initial visit, he was able to put the gland/duct right back into place. Now, it has only been a week or so, but so far so good. I took my dog to this location twice for cataracts. Both times I was told exactly what the cost was for the initial visit and the follow up visit a year later. During the second exam I was asked if they could take me dogs blood pressure and I said of course assuming this is just something they do in an exam similar to taking their temperature but I was wrong. My charge for the exam was $110 but when I got to the counter to pay I was charged an additional $50 for them taking my dogs blood pressure. I was pretty shocked that they would do that and not tell me in the exam room that taking my dogs blood pressure was outside of what is included in the exam and that there was a charge but that never happened. When I was trying to make my case when I was paying for the exam the office staff literally defended their practice of doing something like this. I of course paid the additional $50 which was a 50% increase in my total bill which is a lot considering all they did was take her blood pressure. When our animals are sick I would like to think that a veterinarian would not take advantage of its patients but this clinic was unapologetic and seemed to have no concern that what they were doing was by definition deceptive. I spoke to the CEO of the clinic and she was even less helpful than the staff and her attitude on the way they deceived and tricked me into have to pay for a blood pressure test didn't bother her anymore than it did her staff the day I was in the clinic. With their charging practices they could have charged me for taking my dogs temperature or when they took her weight and there is nothing the customer can do because they are not upfront with this unusual practice and they are definitely unapologetic for deceiving their customers. Be very aware of this practice as they are not upfront about charges that most people would assume are part of an exam. read more

His "bedside manner" is by the far the best I've seen from a vet. My dog tends to be twitchy when anyone tries to examine her, but she stood completely still for him. My everyday vet diagnosed an eye problem and referred me here, and to be honest I had no idea what was going on, with all the medical terminology involved. When I got here, the staff was really friendly and helpful, and the doctor was very prompt. I saw Dr. Paglia, who was just amazing with both me and my dog Charlie.
