The fried chicken here is legit - take it from a North Carolinian who has had his fair share of this delicious.. meat. I'm a huge fan of the spicy fried chicken, which is dark meat, as opposed to the regular fried chicken, which is white meat. I'm a dark meat guy who likes things spicy, so it makes for a perfect combination, in my opinion. The skin has an amazingly crispy and crunchy exterior while the chicken itself is moist and flavorful, making every bite a burst of joy in your mouth. You really have to just try it to believe it. AND for the rest of this year (2012), on Mondays you can get a two-piece chicken dinner with a roll for less than $1.50. That's an unbeatable price for any fried chicken, much more so for Ezell's. Oh, and their dinner rolls are pretty awesome, too. The only downside - there is no seating inside or outside, so you have to enjoy your chicken in the car or elsewhere. A bit of a disappointment. Between the seven of us, we ordered the 24 piece family combo and a half pound of fried okra. Service was surprisingly sloppy! Most would expect a restaurant with no seating to be on top of their takeout game, but ours was missing an entire side dish, several sauces, utensils, and napkins. C'mon guys. The OG location has a great reputation. The staff was genuine, which is hard to find. So it's being run by good people. We love Ezells! The smells coming from this joint at all times of day are mouthwatering. It is takeout only, they don't have tables, so it is perfect for picking up and taking home (.5 miles away). Their spicy chicken is way better than the original. Their chicken has always been moist with perfect breading and spice on the outside. All of their sides are good but are not the star of the show. The chicken is...and those rolls. I've yet to try the fried okra or the chicken fingers but will surely do so. 5 stars for the super cool absolutely amazing staff that work there, but 1 star for the food, equals a good 3 star rating. So I walk into Ezell's and everyone is super friendly and nice and make you feel like you are part of the family. The cashier gave me advice on what to order and answered all of my questions, and she was sooo nice, I really liked her. She let all the rest of the staff know I was an Ezell's newbie and had never tried their chicken before. The manager came right over and said hello to me. The cashier let me know that after I tried the chicken, if there was anything I didn't like, I could return it. Wow! I told her I was sure I was going to love it, and not need a refund. I asked for my chicken spicy, but there was no spice at all in it :( So sad cause I love spicy foods. The chicken was ok, I'm not a huge fan of meat with bones in it, so it was probably more "personal preference" than Ezell's cooking. They also don't have any place to eat/sit inside the restaurant, so I had to eat in my car. I understand though that they are right across from a high school, so probably if they put in seating the kids would stay all day long. But again, they made me feel so welcome and they had such great Southern hospitality, that I think I'd come back here just for the great customer service and positive attitude. read more

I've eaten Ezell's a few times over the years, and it has been consistently good every time. A two piece meal is probably enough to satisfy a moderately hungry person, but a three-piece is enough to fully stuff you. Personally, I'm a fan of their dark meat. The thighs and drumsticks are hot, juicy, and crispy, and they're even better spicy. The roll that comes with is perfectly soft and if you like potato salad, then go for it--Ezell's is pretty great. Great easy menu and the spicy chicken is actually really nice and spicy. The mashed potatoes were alright (I make better) but the gravy was incredible. I've been waiting to try this place for some time now, partly because I drive by the location quite often, and partly because Oprah says it's her favorite fried chicken. I figure a billionaire would know more about fine dining than I do, but luckily I form my own opinions and don't listen to what others have to say when I'm writing my reviews. Nevertheless, I would like to ask Oprah whether it's because of her that this place claims to be famous. But for a place that gets such attention, it sure is small. My local KFC isn't that big, and it's still bigger than Ezell's. It also looks like KFC in that the chicken pieces being heated are clearly visible in the back. I ordered a four-piece mixed dinner, and the whole thing was ready to go for me in a cardboard box before I could even finish paying. That's good because it truly is fast food, but it's also bad because they're trying to rush me out the door, leaving me to eat my meal in my car instead of sitting down at the restaurant. The chicken pieces themselves are crisper and less soggy than what I'm used to with fried chicken, but still kind of greasy. I feel that each piece is made with slightly more care than at a generic fast food restaurant. The chicken is good, but not THAT good. I had one of each of their wings, thighs, breast, and legs, so I don't think it was because I didn't sample enough that I wasn't too impressed. There's also the baked rolls, mashed potatoes with gravy, and coleslaw that came with my meal. Honestly, there's not much to say about them because they're standard and come with no surprises. I have been wanting to try this restaurant from a long time and finally decided to pick up an order on the labor day weekend. Safety measures were strictly followed and only order pick up is allowed. Dine in is not opened yet. We ordered the half pound buffalo chicken tenders which are served with baked rolls. The quantity was good enough for two of them. And I must say I really felt in love with the taste of the buffalo chicken tenders. Absolutely loved them until their last nite and the fresh baked roll totally stick to their names. The rolls are so fresh and soft. I loved them with the buffalo tenders. We also tried their okra appetizer and loved it too. I haven't seen such crispy fried okra yet anywhere. Great fried chicken. Make sure to go early to avoid the rush AND get spicy instead. It's a bit pricey though so definitely go in expecting to buy a lot to compensate for it. The sides are tasty and hot sauce is extra. The chicken gizzards are deliciously crunchy and have a good flavor to them as well. I'd recommend the mac and cheese over everything else there though. As for fried chicken, it's not the BEST in seattle. I still think I'd prefer popeyes because it's cheaper, it's faster, it's more readily available, and it's not as greasy. read more

I grew up eating Ezell's during high school in Renton and I love love love their student special. I'm glad there's one in Seattle that I can go to. I'm just sad there's not a a seating area, which is why I deducted a star. As for the chicken - my go to is the chicken strip combo that comes with fries and also a roll. I always get it with honey mustard. I also really like just the drumsticks. Skin is definitely my favorite part of the piece. Nice and crispy, not too oily. :) I have also tried their bread pudding. In a place like Seattle where it is a land of vegan, Thai and Vietnamese food, sometimes I just want fried chicken, so I go to Ezell's. Their fried chicken is really delicious. I like their chicken tenders more, actually because they are super juicy and full of flavor. Get the spicy ones, with a sauce! The Ezell's food truck comes to my workplace once a week and it is absolutely divine when the food is fresh. Sides: The rolls are okay, hinting slightly on the sweet side. They are much better fresh, obviously. The fries are very average, nothing to write home about. I wasn't a huge fan of the mashed potatoes because the gravy was very bland. The potato salad was good though because the mayo sauce they use is a bit tangy. Some Cons: This location unfortunately does not have any seating. I ordered some delivery to support a small and black-owned business. I got the chicken tenders and crinkle-cut fries. This is some of the best fried chicken I've ever had. Crispy, juicy and so good. The fries were kinda so-so, but they have a variety of sides to choose from. The rolls that come with it are buttery, soft and so good. I am going to have to get a few more next time I order.
