I delayed in writing hoping my experiences would improve with time unfortunately they've declined. This location being the closest to me once had every delivery order incorrect or incomplete. Tonight was probably the worst experience, my large order consisted of 2 lbs of chicken 4 sides, sauces and extra rolls. I only received 1 lbs of chicken that's all. No refund, no apology, no attempt at correcting my dinner just a store credit for the delivery company. It was my first time here and I have to say, I am not too sure what's the hype about. The spicy fried chicken is good but the place and service could be improved. Service: the lady didn't understand what I was ordering and I had to repeat my order twice to her. When I received my food, I had to make sure it was correct. It was right but they did forget my bbq sauce and I asked the gentlemen but he was confused. So he held a bunch and I grabbed two sauces. Food: chicken was not hot, the spice is there. I've been coming to Ezell's for years when I visit from Chicago. Always forget to write a review. This is my go to Ezell's. I tried a couple others and they don't stack up to this one. I even had them at the State fair many years ago but was disappointed. I would of thought If you're representing your restaurant at the fair which attracts many people from out of state then you should put forward your best quality. But yeah this one is the best. The chicken is always fresh to order. I always Go a little overboard when I order from here. The chicken strips are the best. Nobody comes close. The chicken is always juicy and flavorful. This chicken a shot like a m16, it it a boom shell. Taste like home fried chicken, not a chain. Little hole in the wall type spot but really worth it. Chicken looked fairly dark which might not be visually appealing but the taste is excellent if you are in the mood for good fried chicken & their warm roll melts in your mouth. I was with 4 people and we ordered the 16 piece (4 thighs, 4 wings, 4 breasts, 4 drumsticks) which comes with 3 jumbo sides & 8 fresh-baked rolls! All the chicken is already made so it's not fresh. It's kept hot under a hot lamp! The chicken was really good and you can definitely tell the differences with all 4 pieces of meat. The dark meat was definitely fatter and more juicy. The breast contained the most meat and was more dry. The skin was really crispy and fried perfectly! The sides were okay. We got corn, mashed potatoes and coleslaw. I mean, it wasn't bad but it wasn't amazing. The side sauces (hot sauce, barbecue, honey mustard, ketchup, etc) also have a charge! Only the hot sauce & BBQ sauces are house made. Came here 30 min before closing so I'm assuming I didn't get the chicken at it's best turnover quality but it was still delicious. Ordered the 3 piece combo which came with a fresh roll. They were nice enough to give me 4 pieces! I don't know if that'a because they were closing and being generous with leftover chicken or just nice people, but I appreciated it. The roll was delicious. Soft and yeasty. A must order. The chicken was very crunchy though I could tell it has been sitting out under a heat lamp for a bit....but I did come right before closing so I won't mark that down for them. The spicy chicken wasn't very spicy... I could barely taste the spiciness. However, the chicken was juicy and flavorful, and very tasty. Service was so-so, the lady was nice enough but pretty brusque to everybody in line. Felt like we were in a cafeteria getting hurried along with just the requisite hello. But I also had the strips, as most reviews were saying the fried chicken under the heat lamps, was very dry. Beans were watery and tasted like Bush's baked beans, not homemade. Ezell's came into Fame when Oprah Winfrey had her birthday party catered by Ezell's Fried Chicken about 15 years ago. This is a restaurant that is takeout only and expect a line when you arrive as many people Come Thru to pick up some of the best fried chicken in the state of Washington. My personal favorite is the half pound spicy chicken tenders which comes with a number of sides you can choose from. I personally pick either the mashed potatoes with gravy or the fried okra. The mail also comes with one of the most delicious biscuit type muffins that you will not find anywhere else full of flavor butter soft that just melts in your mouth. This original location on 26th Avenue is the home of the Oprah Winfrey photo and across the street from Garfield High School. So take note during school days there will be a long line of students at lunch hour ordering up their Daily Dish of this amazing fried chicken. While parking is limited the line moves quickly so if you can't find a parking space immediately I suggest waiting a few minutes in the lot for somebody to leave so that you can park and get your order placed. The service is speedy and is always very polite. If you have a hankering for fried chicken or a connoisseur this is a must to visit for those that love the crispy deliciousness that Ezell's serves up. A byproduct of the Oprah effect, Ezell's does chicken on par with an average fried chicken joint in the South. As a self-proclaimed fried chicken fanatic having grown up in Tennessee, it takes a lot to impress me when it comes to fried chicken but also lot to disappoint me (hence the three stars) since what's not to love about a juicy bird with crispy skin and a touch of herbs and spices? Those who sing Ezell's praises the highest seem to have the mindset that if Oprah says its good, then it must be good. Apparently she has become the expert on chai tea (Starbucks), popular fiction (we all know how great "A Million Little Pieces" turned out), Spanx, technological devices (Kindle), and apparently fried chicken. I also find comments like "best fried chicken in the state" to be almost backhanded or uninformed since me describing a raw oyster joint as the best one in Tennessee isn't saying much to those living along a coast. Although I left relatively underwhelmed with the chicken, I am fairly impressed with the jedi mindtrick the queen of media has been able to pull on the masses. This place is authentic for what it is, just not sure if I'd wait in line in the rain, endure second-rate customer service, and find an alternate venue (no seating) to eat this chicken. Yummmmm. So good! I'm not a big fan of meat but this chicken was so crispy and flavorful. Apparently it's Oprah's favorite chicken too (there's a photo of her on the wall). As others have noted, the service can seem a bit unprofessional and the area can seem a bit sketchy but I try to keep in mind that Seattle and this area have undergone lots of gentrification so if you don't feel safe then...there's always KFC, I guess? Haha. I've yet to encounter exceptionally rude service but I'll update this review should that happen. They were out of mashed potatoes when we came which was a bummer. We just got mac and cheese and slaw as our sides. The Mac and cheese was alright (not bad but not exceptional) and the slaw was better than expected (I'm not a big fan of coleslaw in general). They also give you a basic dinner roll, rather than a biscuit but free is free. DAT CHICKEN THO. The meat is so tender and moist. The skin is so flavorful and crunchy. It's not too oily and it tastes freshly fried. This isn't a dine-in place and there are no seats. There's a free parking lot in the back. No drive through though. It just gives the chicken a little extra kick. The combination meals are generous; for a 2 or 3-piece meal, you get two sides and a biscuit. The sides pale in comparison to the chicken, though. I don't know what they do to it, but it makes me drool the minute I walk inside the place and catch the first whiff. And you must try the sweet potato pie! It is amaaaaaaaaaaaazing. There is NO place to sit and eat here, so you need to take it to go or eat in your car. There is a private parking lot, but there's also plenty of street parking. The definition of Ezell means "sexy beast"...like me! Unfortunately I'm not the one to judge on who is the sexy beast. But the Ezell franchise sure can make some good fried chicken in the state of Washington. I came here for dinner and ordered the meaty three-piece meal. For $9.50 +tax, I get TWO HUGE breast pieces and a thigh piece (all non-spicy) with a roll and two sides (I got Macaroni salad and Potato salad). There are no seating at this location, thus all meals are to go. Therefore I took my meal back to my hotel and stuff my meal in my face. The meat pieces were moist and the outer-layer is so crispy! I can't compare the overall taste from KFC, Popeye's or other fried chicken places. But Ezell's version is pretty darn good. After my chicken meal, I indeed feel like a sexy beast! Ewing of Seattle-- Picked up the posse on 23rd and Jackson-- headed for the strip, yes we're lookin' for some action-- the limo's kinda crowded, the whole car was leanin' back-- Maharaji's watchin' T.V. with two girlies on his lap-- And even thought we were a block off 23rd & Jackson..... it wasn't quite the bumpin' scene as this 'hood was probably even 5 or 10 years ago. Let's be honest, I wouldn't have been going to Ezell's then. But this is the place that Oprah raved about in the 80's and I have always wanted to try it. And now with the gentrification of the city, one of my best girlfriends owns a condo about 15 blocks from there. Yep. So the chicken.... It was good. Kind of Roscoe's good. Sure, they are all over the Seattle metro area and I could have gone much sooner but several people informed us that in order to get the best Ezell's expereince you got to go to the original location. We were not disappointed! We got the four piece meal with spicy breading and simply fell in love with it. Definitely better than any other fast food chicken around. I've found myself thinking about Ezell's quite often since returning home after a day trip in Seattle a few weeks ago. It's a craving so bad that I've been tempted to BoltBus back up there every weekend. I can't compare this fried chicken with Popeyes because I've never eaten there. I feel Ezell's shouldn't even be compared with KFC because it's too delicious to be compared with a fast food restaurant that leaves one in agony & taking far too many trips to the bathroom. Ezell's is its own kind of famous chicken. Their spicy (mild spicy) chicken tenders were tender & very moist with mild, tangy flavors of all the right spices for the breading. Out of the prepackaged barbeque, ranch, tartar, & honey mustard dipping sauces the honey mustard is the way to go. The roll was incredibly warm, light, & soft with just a hint of sweet. Butter is absolutely unnecessary on these rolls; you'll mask the flavor which undoubtedly is the best (at least in Seattle). The crinkle fries were nothing to write home about. I'd suggest ordering a couple more rolls instead of a side of fries. Also, I tried a couple bites of the side of cole slaw my friend ordered & it was pretty good; light & creamy. There isn't any seating inside the restaurant nor even a place to stand & eat. There is a school across the street with some seating areas but the crows sat on the tree limbs & hovered over us while we ate. This was the only time during the trip we wished we drove. At least then we would've had a place to sit & also shelter from the cold & birds. There is a private parking lot but still not seating area. Maybe there is during the warmer season? Ezell's is... as the black guy with gold teeth standing in line behind us exclaimed, "It's chicken crack!" A couple of times a year our bosses decide to unchain us from our desks and take us out somewhwere fun.(The first year they took us to Whistler for the weekend, but we're too big now unfortunately). It was the cool boat you've seen with the big glass windows and it was a perfect day. The Captain knows the "sweet spot"(his words) to anchor so that the planes were zipping right over our heads; very cool! Unfortunately though, the food was catered by my old nemesis Ezell's. I guess the boss is a big fan and decided to go more "picnic" than gourmet this time around. I knew where I stood on Ezells but I quietly waited to hear what other people thought. The bosses really liked it, but they're Canadian so what do they know about fried chicken. Most people thought it was okay at best. No one thought the spicy chicken had any kick at all and several people asked why Oprah thought it was so good. There were even leftovers which there never are at these events since we're mostly a group of overfed tech guys. So bottom line is that Ezell's still hasn't persuaded me of it's delciousness and I still don't understand why Uber celebrities are having it flown halfway across the country. read more

I got the 4-piece dark-meat chicken pieces with 2 side orders, mashed potato & gravy and fries, for around $15, which I thought was a pretty good price for so much food. I ended up getting full after the second piece of chicken, so I'd recommend just getting two pieces with the side orders. The chicken was good, but it was disappointing because it was barely warm even though I ate it right after I got it. I saw that a bunch was piled up under two heating lamps, and the weather was super cold so maybe that's why; the pile doesn't seem like it was made fresh. The outside was dry and cold, but the inside was still moist and pretty good. What was outstanding were the bread rolls. They were delicious! I think they come with every order of chicken. My friends got chicken tenders, which they said was nothing special, so I would get the chicken pieces instead of the tenders if you can. This place doesn't have tables or even any counter to stand and eat on, so make sure you have planned a place to eat before hand! We ended up sitting on the bleachers across the street at the center. Besides eating the food, what's the best way to tell if a restaurant is good? I think I found it out today. As I left my virgin visit to Ezell's, I found myself on the bus back to Redmond. "Ezell's?! Mmm, what're you takin' home?" "Just some rolls and a slice of sweet potato pie *awkward smile*" "... I'll give you $3 for the pie." Sure, that's basically a dollar and twelve cents pure profit for doing nothing but carrying a bag. But is a little over a dollar worth sacrificing food so good that random people on the bus are trying to BUY it from you? Probably not. I obviously kept the pie. I obviously ate the pie. I obviously regretted not buying the whole thing -- it was ridiculously good. I now know why Oprah has a hard time figuring out what she likes best.
