Reasonable, Honest, Professional and Courteous Plumber!…read more Over this past weekend on Saturday, Nov 11th, a neighbor alerted me to the fact that water was running down our driveway at a pretty high rate. I had hoped the issue was with sprinkler system, but sadly it was with our water main between the meter and our home. I spent most of Saturday afternoon and all-day Sunday trying to locate the leak in our yard with countless hours of digging. Finally, on Monday early afternoon Roto Rooter came out with specialized Sonar equipment to narrow in on the leak. They helped find a copper pipe (house side) and PVC pipe (yard side) that met under a poured concrete sidewalk to access our backyard. And then provided me an estimate of nearly $4000 to perform the repair, which would take approximately 3 hours. I just couldn't believe the price.... so, I turned them down. I spent the rest of Monday and most of Tuesday was focused on digging under the sidewalk to find the transition point between PVC and copper, which happened to be the point of failure. I also contacted two (2) different plumbers recommended by friends for estimates. One was willing to do the work at hourly rate and a fraction (less than a third) of Rotor Rooter but still pricey for what I knew needed to be done. The other was Dennis with Austin Area Plumbing. I called Dennis on Monday late afternoon, and he spent time with my on the phone hearing about my saga, the work I had done to uncover the leak, expose the pipes and reduce the repair work. He even looked at pictures I texted him to get a sense of the issue. In the end, Dennis said, the more you can do to minimize my work, the more it will save you. He was a man of his word! Dennis put my on his schedule for Wednesday around noon. On Tuesday, Dennis checked in with me on my progress and if I could still use his help, which I did. Finally, on Wednesday, he showed up promptly around noon with txt updates of his heading my way. Upon arrival, Dennis surveyed my preparation and acknowledged that I had done all the "HARD" work in digging and exposing the issue. He proceeded to cut out the damaged pipes, discuss the pros and cons of two options with me, and then proceeded with an agreed to plan-of-attack. We agreed to use PEX with copper-to-PEX fittings on the house side and PVC-to-PEX fittings on the yard side with a slightly bowed 1" PEX tube under the sidewalk to restore the water supply. After a little over an hour he was done, then we just had to wait for glue to cure and then test the repair. Finally, the moment of truth... water turned on and no leaks... Hooray! In the end, Dennis was the best option for us and the more reasonable price. I cannot thank Dennis with Austin Area Plumbing enough. He is a true saint! The reason I'm holding garden house plumbing company accountable is because they should, prior to the foundation work, check to see if they have what is needed for the hydrostatic plumbing test and quote how much it will cost if there is will a cost. With that making the home owner aware of how much to expect to pay and giving the opportunity to choose to continue with the foundation work or choose another contractor. When there is a condition to the test and that this condition voids the warranty the lack of transparency is a total disregard and disrespect with the consumer. Marco Munoz did a great job explaining but only provided this explanation of the hydrostatic plumbing test per my request after the foundation work was done and I found out I'd get no warranty for it. This should have been provided along with the contract since Douglas Foundation assigns then to do the testing. If they are a reputable company and respect their customers I hope they will stop doing business in partnership with crooked, dishonest Douglas Foundation repair.

I called Cold is on the Right, they said they had a sonar device & camera & could get to us that day. I asked what they charged & was told, "$344 for the 1st hour & $200 per additional hour." The area in question was ~10' in diameter. Billy arrived, looked at everything & I asked, "about how much does this kind of job run?" He replied, "repairs like this normally run about $970." That translated to about 4 hours total to find & fix the leak ($344 for the 1st hour + $200 for each additional hour). It was Friday afternoon, we were losing 18 gallons per hour so we agreed to have Billy fix the leak instead of waiting until Monday. ALL of this was VERBAL...no work order & nothing signed. BUT, Billy didn't have the sonar with him even though I specifically asked if they had sonar equipment to locate our water leak. He found the leak in just under an hour, but he didn't have the PVC on his truck to fix the leak so, he had to go back to the shop for that & was gone 40 minutes. It took just under 1 hour to fix the leak including replacing a sprinkler pipe that they broke in the process & when he finished he said we owed $970. $970 for 2 hours of work!!! I questioned that & Billy said the $344 was diagnostics only & $970 was the fee so, I called the office & Austin said, "we don't have a work order for your job." That's because there was not one. He then asked, "did they use any tools?" & when he asked that the second time I replied, "2 shovels" to which he replied, "we charge for tools AND we normally charge $125 extra for same day service." The lady I first spoke with never mentioned "diagnosing rates vs repair rates or additional cost for same day service much less a charge for tools." The office manager, Sydney did give us a 10% discount because we live in Lakeway & she agreed to a lack of communication on their part that she would address. This is not our first rodeo. I am 77, my husband is 81, we've built 7 homes & remodeled 6 others & $436.50/hr is OUTRAGEOUS! I cannot recommend this company.

After inspecting the issue, he told us there was no plumbing problem. Instead, he suggested that the leak was likely caused by the AC system and recommended cutting a hole in our wall to investigate, which cost approximately $400. After cutting the hole, he left without providing any explanation or findings. I had to call him myself, and he simply told me that there was no plumbing issue and that the AC unit also had no issues. First, does he even have an AC license or the qualifications to diagnose HVAC problems? Second, I hired another plumbing company for a second opinion. They quickly diagnosed the problem as a plumbing issue, repaired it, and completely resolved the leak. As a result, I paid Austin's Greatest Plumbing approximately $400 just to have a hole cut in my wall, and now I also have to pay to repair the damaged drywall. The actual plumbing problem was never identified or fixed by them. This was one of the most unprofessional service experiences I have ever had.
