A well-known location downtown, F Street is one of the limited options for lunch and a popular spot after work. I stopped in for lunch the other day, and went with the special that day, which was a prime rib Philly steak sandwich. The sandwich was tasty enough, although my dining companions were less impressed. Apparently F Street is known for its French onion soup, which I admit I've never tried. Decided to stop here for lunch because it has been awhile since I've last been here. The food is always pretty good. Ended up ordering the whole turkey sandwich with fries, and a side of spicy Mayo. The sandwich was amazing. The fries are always good. It's honestly -2 stars for the okay service. But the 3 stars are defiantly for the food and the cooks. I've been here before and the service was a lot better than today. Honestly it's kind of the worst service I have experienced here. Pretty rude older lady was the one helping me out. She took my drink order then walked away without asking if I wanted anything to eat. She continued to walk away as I was still ordering. Highly would not sit in her section. read more

Came in on Saturday evening and this place was hopping. Definitely have to keep your eyes peeled for places to sit as no hostess will greet you or take down a name. Thankfully my wife and I found a spot within about 5 minutes at one of the bar tables near the door. We placed our orders a few minutes later for the grilled salmon (special of the day) and a regular sized halibut fish and chips. The fish and chips came in chunks a little smaller than I had expected, but I actually appreciated it since it kept me from gorging myself. The salmon was also good, but my biggest complaint was actually the salad that was very wilty, the croutons were mush and the tomato slices weren't quite ripe. Kind of disappointing. Hopped off the plane at ANC with a dream and a hungry belly... and this was one of the only places open @12am! It's mostly a bar, but kitchen is open till 1am, bar open till 3! Very much a "local bar" feel. Not too noisy though. Took us about 35min to go in & out. Would def recommend for anyone else wanting a late meal in Anchorage! The sourdough crab sandwich was pretty simple... crab salad on top of bread, with caesar salad. Bread was not very sour. Oysters were slightly above average. read more

I am going to echo a few other comments from some fellow yelpers first. F Street station is an institution for me. I came here for the first time about 18 years ago and I stop in nearly every time I am in town. This is good and bad, I have had all sorts of experiences in here over the years and I can understand some negative comments because you can't please everyone and I am sure some have had some legit bad experiences, nowhere is perfect every day but I have to tell you, this place brings a smile to my face every time I stop in. It's a small bar/restaurant that can get really really busy. Why you ask? Because the food is delicious and it is a great value. Sure their prices have gone up but it is still an excellent value. The food is bar food but it's upscale bar food. Chef and his team turn out consistently delicious hearty and generous meals. I have had almost everything in here and I always come back for the steamed clams, the steak sandwich and a basic Caesar salad. Full bar and a good selection of beers on draft and can/bottle served in ice cold mason jars. The staff? Well, a lot of reviews say the staff is rude. Um, I have on occasion seen what you are talking about. Maybe. But I think you should take a look in the mirror before deciding who is rude. It's a high volume small bar that sees a bunch of travelers and locals alike. It can get a little crazy in there. While I am not saying anyone needs to be rude, I am saying relax, you might be the jackass. I think I would call the bartenders nonsense good people that have been around the business for a long time. I like em. You take care of them and be nice, my experience tells me they will take great care of you. The cheese? Yes have some cheese, grab a beer and visit with the locals, the guests and the staff. They are all great people. I will be back to F Street the next time I am in town and I am really looking forward to it! read more

The best restaurant I've tried in Alaska so far. F Street Station is one of the oldest restaurants in Alaska and their food shows they know what it takes to stay in business so long. The Turkey sandwich was superb, one of the best Turkey sandwiches I've had ever. The sauce that comes with the Turkey sandwich is so good. The grilled halibut sandwich was also outstanding. The fish was tender and juicy. The crab sandwich was also very tasty. I appreciated that a different bread was used for each sandwich which each paired well with the protein. read more

I came at 6 PM for a solo dinner and the place was hopping, but there were about five seats open at the bar. I had the onion soup and the escargot. Both were delicious. If you don't eat that much bread , you could probably tell them to go light on the baguette (which was ok). I only had soda water, but the selection went really big. Great service. If I could give 0 stars, I would do so. First, the Server got my order wrong. The sandwhich was covered in un-melted butter and wasn't edible. The Server was the RUDEST lady I've ever encountered at a restaurant. When I asked her why she was being so rude, she really didn't have an answer. Food at F St is always so good which is why I was excited to eat here for lunch since I'm currently home visiting. I usually sit at the chefs bar but decided on a table since I had friends coming. The older waitress with the short hair was so rude to us the entire time. We ordered plenty of food and I also work in the service industry and always tip. But after reminding her a few times of orders we haven't received, not checking in on us, and slamming our food down on the table I left no tip and wrote this was the worst service. She needs to be fired because she obviously hates her job. read more

This is an odd yet dope bar, hidden between two unsuspecting buildings. They serve candy as an appetizer, it gets passed around the restaurant like a joint. Food was above average for a watering hole, however the clientele was the real attraction. Everyone talked to each other, I ended up walking over to another tables and talking to strangers. Dude next to me at the bar wasn't a local either, however he seemed to catch the vibe real quick. Everyone there is chill and down to socialize, even the bartenders. An entire bottle of wine was only $24. They have a communal block of cheese everyone eats from. It's a weird spot, just go. Don't leave anchorage without trying the Calamari from here. Delicious jalapeño dipping sauce that pairs perfect with it. I usually order the halibut sandwich and spread the jalapeño sauce on my bun. Ahhhmazing and the right hint of spicy! My husband usually orders the hef from here and he loves it. The only thing that this place is usually busy so be ready to wait a bit until someone leaves. Only stools to sit on so it's not too kid friendly. Fun atmosphere and friendly staff. read more

Best halibut sandwiches in town hands down and best halibut fish and chips! The breading on both dishes is hearty enough to give an elevated flavor and crunch to the fish yet light enough to not hide the fresh flavor of the great Alaskan halibut; it doesn't fall off immediately after the first bite either - win win! I went here after hearing that they were known for their fish and chips. First, I would suggest going there early as the place is small and popular so a wait is not unusual. I went there and had to wait about 15 minutes and only managed to get a seat because someone at the bar left. I liked how their kitchen was exposed and you could see them making the food. I had their seafood salad sandwich and their fried oysters. The oysters were okay, but a little too fishy for me. Their sandwich on the other hand was really good. Messy but good. I fully had planned on ordering their fish and chips but when I was waiting to order, someone else ordered the sandwich so I changed my mind. Next time, fish and chips it is. read more

I love coming here. They have one of the best deals for fish and chips and you get your money's worth. I was a bit surprised how skimpy other places can be on their fish considering you're in Alaska, but F street gives you a great portion and has amazing food. Now I am going to say a few of the ladies are a bit...blunt...not in a rude way I don't think, but I think they are just maybe used to a very mature crowd. The chefs though were absolutely the nicest and had some great ideas and it's so cool to watch them work and prepare your food fresh. I thought that was awesome. This is a very racist place, especially by the bolde bartender named Tommi as I heard her screaming at three people, 1 Black and the other Latina with her boyfriend to get out because and you kind of people are rude because you are always loud. I saw her do this to a Black guy at the bar who knew her and when she asked him how's everything ots been awhile, he said she looks great just skinner and she shouted at him and told the security to get him out! Not what I was expecting when everyone was raving about F Street. We came late night, so it was definitely a bar crowd. The atmosphere was fun and low key, and the drinks were really good. We drank margaritas and dirty martinis which were both awesome. For food, we tried the new york steak sandwich which was very good! I was impressed by how tender the steak was. It was cooked perfectly medium rare and was not lacking in size. For $20, it was well worth it. The burger was nothing to write home about it. read more

This was our favorite restaurant out of the many we've tried on our 2-week Alaska trip. We had the following: ***the halibut sandwich: loved it! Perfectly fried so it's flaky on the outside and tender on the inside. It was just so delicately done; definitely the best halibut we've ever enjoyed even compared to other great restaurants. I totally recommend getting the French onion soup as a side ($3 extra), which brings me to... ***the French onion soup: again, really well done. Lots of cheesy goodness and melted onion. Best FOS I've ever had (though I admit I don't often have them) ***the fried shrimp: I will always get the AK size. I love shrimp, and I especially love when they're fried just right. Again, this place is just fantastic at frying seafood perfectly. Just the right amount of batter and crispness without falling into the trap of being overly greasy. ***the F Street pasta: this was (imo) just an ok dish. I think it was vegetarian, iirc. It's a decent choice if you're not feeling fried foods. ***the crab sandwich: I didn't like it, but I can see people enjoying it. We loved this place so much we ate here 3x in the 3 days we had in Anchorage, even squeezing in a third time right before we headed to the airport! This place will be my personal standard for comparing fried seafood. I'll miss the shrimp and the halibut. I'll have to find and post the photos we took when I get the chance. For newcomers: There's no waitlist, no host/hostess. If it's busy, you go in, scope out who might be finishing up their meal, and wait to grab the first empty seats you can find. This took us a bit of time to figure out haha. The regulars there were pretty understanding, and made sure to let us know when they're getting ready to leave so we could get their seats.
