I don't eat pork. When I lived in New York City, I passed by many hot dog carts every day because they didn't serve veggie dogs. If I wanted a hot dog cart veggie dog, I had to visit the enlightened city of Toronto and I did -- regularly. Well, I drove by Fab Hot Dogs this weekend and saw a long line of people on the street waiting to get inside. (Where do you see that in the San Fernando Valley?) Those folks said that I could get a veggie dog at Fab, so I made it my priority to do so today. I ordered two veggie dog versions of their Mexicali Dogs (topped with chipotle peppers in adobo sauce, guacamole, sour cream & grilled onions). The creativity behind this balanced collection of ingredients should be rewarded. This was incredibly good -- memorably good -- and I almost wish my stomach was big enough to order a dozen of these dogs to enjoy for the rest of the afternoon. All I can say is my quest to find a dog done right in Southern California has finally come to a close. I kid you not I've scoured 5 counties (San Diego, San Bernardino, Riverside, Orange County, and Ventura) and I'll stand by my statement that it'll be hard to top the quality Fabs has brought to the table! Well played Wesley for showing this place to me! To say the menu is massive is an understatement, but literally burgers, dogs, brats, salads, and perhaps the lost city of Atlantis lay claim on there so as you can imagine it took a while to finally select just the right thing to make my birthday sparkle. On top of it there are even off menu specials so it's like Oktoberfest was never out to rest! Before diving headfirst into reliving the weenieganza I have to acknowledge what really makes Fabs a bun above the rest is what any dog connoisseur will appreciate: the snap. There is nothing like it and not too many places do it, but when you get it it's a thing of beauty. Just so you know I'm staying true to my 100% depiction of things I'll break it down like this. Apparently I was not quite the most courteous table guest, but thankfully it was more of a humorous thing vs. looking like a total you know what. As the meal progressed I was blown away and practically moaning bite to bite due to the snap that I was zoned out in my own world and didn't pay attention to everyone sitting around me. I was silent as a church mouse munching away and even a zombie apocalypse couldn't impact my meal that day. Upon the last bite I got a "dang you really love your wieners" and well I love me a GREAT furter! So what did I devour to get me visions of sugar dogs dancing in my head? It was their Cheese Coney, Breakfast Dog, and Fab Tots. To really tell how a hot dog is I always get my go-to Coney. What stood out is the chili above anything. It wasn't greasy (what I call red grease) and it just tasted meaty from start to finish. Sadly I'd even place it above Tommy's chili and damned if I'd have ever said that about any chili EVER! A sleeper dog to me is their Breakfast Dog. I wanted something unique and that just barked out different to me. So much from the description doesn't work, but honestly it ended up being a close second in the end. I did love the combination of the fried egg, mayo and bacon wrapped mutt. It was like breakfast during the day. Now that I think about it, anyone would pass on sleeping in for a taste of that! As if that wasn't enough I had to indulge in some tater tots and I was surprised to discover by simply asking that you can get Fab style on the tots like the fries as it wasn't blatantly listed anywhere from what I could tell. They were perfection on a plate. Brown crispy outside and soft tater heaven on the inner core. That hint of garlic and slight slap from the sriracha took it to even new heights and sights. A strong recommendation should you need one. I've now been spoiled by a really hard to beat meal and I see myself comparing Fabs to all that comes after it. Sorry this was so winded if anyone has made it to this point, but at the same point I'm not. When a place puts passion into their craft it's worth recognizing and appreciating that much more. We've been eating here since we moved to the valley in 2013. Their service is always quick and food has been consistently good over the years. They have you covered with food ranging from burgers, hot dogs, tots, fries and burritos. Their burritos are similar to Pink's but I think Fab's does them better. I've had many things on their menu and have never not liked anything. The last time we ordered from here, it was via GrubHub and they were quick with our order. Found this place looking for a good hot dog spot on yelp. I was not disappointed with this find. Very quick service and the staff were nice and suggestive, i really appreciate suggestions when it comes to new places. The location itself is spacious, it was a little cold inside because they have three fans going on at once. It wasn't too busy inside. Ordering, I got the LA street hot dog. I added cheese and pickles, no jalapeños, with the side order of garlic ranch bacon fries (normally comes with sriracha). I loved it, all of it. The meal was obviously a little messy, but so tasty which made it worth the mess. There were so many good things put in this hot dog that made every bite so delicious. Then the fries, The garlic ranch on top of the fries was so amazing. You must order these fries as a side. I do wish i got the sriracha on top just to give an extra flavor, i'll definitely try it next time. We got there just before 11 AM, so we knew what we wanted after searching the menu and reviews on Yelp. He ordered the Texas Burrito Dog, of which I had 3 bites of. That thing was epic and while all the ingredients make it an award winner, the Fritos inside rock! I selected the Regular Chicago Dog. Damn, that was on point.
