The theme was costume karaoke, so we showed up dressed up. It appears as if it was 80's night because the whole night was 80s music and vibes. Not sure if this is the vibe every night but it was cool. The room was spacious and had enough space for all the girlies however the air conditioning was definitely lacking in the venue as a lot of were sweating while sitting still. While we were told the karaoke list has a wide variety of songs, they did it was just disappointing because if they didn't have our song there was no alternative way to add the song. Often times the WiFi would cut off and freeze our song in queue, we would request for help, and had to wait a while for techno assistance. This cut into our karaoke time and no additional time was offered to accommodate. There is on one restroom per gender and 2 stalls in the women bathroom so the wait was at least 30 mins before getting your turn, while I appreciate staff regulating the lines for the restroom, that was a crazy wait! (While sweating because of the shotty AC) Once our time was up,(2am) a bouncer or staff, busted into the room flashing bright lights and yelling saying it was closed and time to go home. Once we exited the room, we were rushed and told if we stayed behind we would be charged more money when all we were doing was checking if we left anything behind.. (it was 15 of us) we could only move so fast! The staff didn't even allow us to use the restroom before leaving. I understand closing protocols, but this wasn't the experience I expected towards first time guests let alone any guests. It would have been nice to get a 30, 15 min warning because it's so easy to be caught up in the moment of having fun, you aren't keeping track of time. There was no courtesy like that offered to us. All in all the experience wasn't completely bad, we made the most of it, celebrated with our friend and had a blast with eachother..the drinks were good and that kept coming.. We racked up a tab ($1000) and ordered a lot of drinks and celebrated, it would have been appreciated to receive the same customer service and support as paying customers, not sure if I would return because this location is far from me, but I'm willing to scope it out again if the opportunity presents itself in effort to have a more balanced opinion.

I literally stop on the dancefloor when it is bad because I can't "fake it". I give this party 5 stars because they do a solid job of creating a party that has something for everyone. Mash-ups, dark dance floor, eccentric dancers on stage, Photobooth (with a creative and fun photographer), and good vibes. Los Angeles used to be filled with great dance parties all over the place. Now they are few and far between. Not to be a negative nancy but here are my gripes - When they are at the downtown location - it's really hard to dance on an incline. When they are at the echoplex - there is no where to put ur drink down and if u do the workers snatch it up quick. Some of the mash-ups blow. It's like everything has been done and they're just trying weird things together to be the first to put AC DC with Kanye (both really hard to dance to because I hate dancing to 80's stripper music and Kanye's music only accompanies his lyrics so it's usually not that great). Anyways - I stop and start quite a bit - but I still Love it.

It's a place you go to when you just want to dance and not worry about impressing other surrounding Angelenos. The mashup music room was my favorite. They play some amazing jams!!!! We went the evening of the Taylor Swift mashups. It was a great, fun experience! Oh, $10 cover charge. If you get there before 10pm (I think they open 9:30pm) then it's $5. The bouncers at the door weren't the most friendly either, but at least there wasn't a line (around 11pm).

I kept wondering why they wouldn't just let people inside to grab a drink and sit down instead of waiting outside. That said, once inside, I really liked the venue. It's small and intimate, split into a bar/lounge area and the stage room. The stage is low to the ground, which makes for a very up close experience with the artist. Probably around 150 people there, good sound, and overall a cool place to catch a live show. I'd definitely come back. I'd just love to skip the long wait outside next time. 4 stars

There are quite a few pros of this place: - walking distance from the Metro station - free street parking in the evenings - very friendly and helpful staff members - yummy food options (I only tried the Jamaican beef patty, but it was so delicious!) - beautiful bar/lounge area to hang out before or after the show - super intimate venue where you can get up close and personal with the artists if you're in the first few rows. The only con I experienced was that the main room can get uncomfortably hot and stuffy once the show has started. It honestly felt like there was no air circulation, and I'm not sure if the AC was broken or if they just didn't have it there. Hopefully, they're able to improve that aspect of the venue! If you have the opportunity to visit the Moroccan Lounge, take it! It's a wonderfully intimate atmosphere to enjoy live music from up and coming artists.

Kiso is the latest in Gay bars in the heart of downtown Los Ángeles which from the late 1980's…read moreslowly bled Gay establishments to mostly West Hollywood and slowly reestablished Gay venues in the early 2010's with such bars as Redline, Bar Mattachine, Precinct which is still extant. New Jalisco Bar near the old L.A. Times building was a mainstay for Latinos, but that died out during Covid when bars were forced to close. Also, for historical value, must list Harold's and Waldorf's which were pre-1980's and were notorious for hustlers. Waldorf's particularly got the reputation for having drag queens who supposedly stuffed their handbags with a heavy object to use as a weapon to sling around and protect themselves. Now the former owners of Redline are establishing a new bar, Kiso, which was also home to the former Score and 107, and caters to LGBTQ+ Communities. Kiso is split into three spaces: 1) Front is airy, bright, and more for Happy Hour conversations over signature cocktails and has the original, old school, long bar, that reeks of OG (Old Gay) history, from the present Barclay Hotel. 2) Middle room is more chicly sedate with more comfortable lounge seating and darker to create a more intimate atmosphere. 3) The inner room has a large dance floor and entertainment venue to host shows and related events. Some representative entertainment are DJ driven themed dance parties, obligatory drag shows, private events, fund raising, etc. Hours are 7pm to 2am Wednesday to Saturday if there are enough guests using the space. Due to lack of kitchen facilities, food will not be a main focal point. You can host an event at https://www.sickening.events/e/ Good to see that DTLA has representation within the LGBTQ+ Biosphere. 5 stars for continuing to create new spaces for the newer generations.
