Every time so come to Ocean City I go to Fager's Island. During the day you can get awesome food and at night it's a great place for drinks and dance. This time we had crab dip which was amazing; the only issue I had with it was that it wasn't enough! The pairing of the crab dip with avocado chips, bread, and salsa is excellent. My husband had a burger which was well cooked and I had the tenderloin kebab which was well cooked and of course very tender. The ambiance is great even during covid times and our server was excellent. The place has a station at the entrance where you can wash your hands (coming in our out). This restaurant was recommended by a friend and didn't disappoint. Had a 7:15 reservation and was seated right away. We wanted fine dining so we ate in the dining room and requested the balcony. We were on the second floor with only about 4 other tables. Very nice wine selection, I had the Malbec. My boyfriend had a martini that was made exactly the way he likes it. Had the appetizer special which was sort of like sushi, with rice and crab and avocado...amazing! Chose the special for dinner as well, pan seared sea scallops over lobster risotto with baby arugula. My boyfriend ordered from the menu and got the Chilean sea bass which was cooked perfectly. They celebrate sunset with a tissue paper confetti rocket and music. We ended up going with inside "fine dining". I think the term fine dining is an overstatement when describing this place. Visited for the first time in a long while. Was expecting to have a nice meal w/family and all started well. However, an accident by the Server set the tone for the rest of the visit. A roll fell out of the basket as it was being set on the table and landed in my wife's Martini splashing all over a brand new sweater she was wearing. It also splashed on another guest at the table. The Server did apologize but took the situation lightly and didn't seem to be in any expediency to help the situation, but offered to bring soda water. What was brought to the table was moist clothe napkins, guess it was moist w/soda water; will never know. The Server seemed more concerned about moving things along than showing real empathy to the situation. To add insult to injury my wife's steak was cooked like shoe leather, so it was sent back. The 'new' steak seemed to take a long time to come back, meanwhile the other guests were eating their meals. In the end not a thing was done to comp this dinner party for all the inconveniences. To add to it all, I requested the Manager to stop by the table. When he arrived, dressed in shorts and golf polo, he gave the appearance that this was more of a hassle than being concerned about the customers. His comment was, "I can see you already paid your bill"; my mistake! Bottom line ... This was an accident and those happen, but how you handle the situation is what determines the next decision made by those dining. FANTASTIC! We came here for our anniversary and we rate it 10/10! Definitely book your reservation close to sunset, so you can enjoy the beautiful view of the bay. The lobster was cooked perfectly and the crab cakes were so meaty (no filler at all). The baked potatoes and green beans were also delicious. The calamari is to die for. Beautiful view of the bay, good service, good food. Went for lunch, the walk from the Coastal Highway was intriguing as we crossed a walking bridge to get to the restaurant. Although the AC felt heavenly inside, I wanted to see the view so we sweated it out on the deck even with the awning covering me (it was really hot & humid that day). Had a deliciously frosty frozen "Dirty Elvis" cocktail that had banana, peanut butter, coffee liqueur, and cream. Perfect for a steamy day, and the first disappeared so fast that I had to order another. No one ever has chicken livers on their menu, and I have loved them since I was a kid, so when I saw it on the Fager's Island menu, I had to get them! Boy, was I glad I did! They were delicious and perfectly prepared. The livers were paired with water chestnut and wrapped in crispy bacon. If you like chicken liver, this is a must try! My husband's burger was huge and also delicious, as were his fries. I ordered the Thai Noodle Salad (again, thinking cold dish), but the sauce was so spicy that I could not get past 2 bites. The salad itself looked sooo good with red cabbage, edamame, chicken, noodles and peanuts, but it was inedible for me. Maybe someone who likes very spicy foods would enjoy it. Our server was nice enough to take it off our bill, which we appreciated. I wish there had been a warning as to how spicy the dish had been, but there was no indication on the menu. So, it has been 3 years since my last review and I am still over the moon with this place! I am not saying that there haven't been some less than stellar experiences along the way since we eat here a couple times a month. But even when they are not up to their usual greatness, they are still better than most of the other places in this tourist town. Fager's has 2 dining areas/menus" casual and fine dining. We usually go to the casual side for lunch where their burgers are among the best we've ever had. We also love their salmon which is almost always perfectly cooked. Their fries are some of the best in town too. But, we finally went to the fine dining room for dinner and it was some of the best food we've had-anywhere. The dishes we had would stand up to some of the Michelin places in NYC. We had the Shanghai Sea Bass and Halibut. Stunning presentations, huge portion of perfectly cooked fish! We had the BEST time here! I felt like I was in Hawaii! The atmosphere was amazing, the food and service was better than I expected! Yes a little pricey but so worth it! The raw oysters were SO fresh, the panko dusted scallops were also fresh and cooked perfectly. My husband got the Prime Rib, it was a huge slab. He wanted horseradish sour cream, the waiter Christian asked if he could throw something together. It was perfect! The Lobster my daughter and I got was a really good size and also perfect! Again our waiter Christian was so attentive, not once did I ever think....where is our waiter or food. We are here for the weekend and I almost want to go again for dinner tomorrow! We had a party of 8 and all food was delivered at the same time, hot and prepared on point. All wait staff was very friendly and accommodating. For some time now, when I've asked friends for recommendations for the best special occasion restaurant in Ocean City, MD, the answer has come back "Fager's Island." We've had good meals at Fager's, we've had less than perfect experiences. But for our anniversary on March 4, 2022, we decided to go there. Our experience was once again less than perfect, and it's time to reconsider Fager's as the top special occasion restaurant in OCMD. We were seated on the second floor of the fine dining area. When we arrived at 7 PM for our reservation, we were promptly and politely seated by the window, which reflected the lighted room rather than letting us enjoy the view. The room was by no means full, although by the time that we finished, it was fairly full. There was a large business party nearby, which was fairly loud with toasting and such. There was another table in the corner where a party of four was holding a fairly loud celebration, also. I don't think they knew how to act in polite company. Might have been a case of too much vino. Really? A fist pump and "WOO WOO WOO!" cheer is not appropriate in a fine dining establishment. As the room filled, the noise level continued to escalate to an unacceptable level. So much for a romantic ambiance for our anniversary celebration. The wife and I started with a glass of the house labeled sparkling wine and found it very acceptable. The wine list was certainly adequate. We shared a Caesar salad, which was also adequate. We like to share a salad, rather than fill up on the usual portion served in restaurants. The salad was uninspired, and fairly typical of restaurant Caesar salads. At least this one was not smothered in dressing as most restaurants seem to think is appropriate. The wife opted for the Scallops Nantucket. They were pan seared and served over Lobster risotto and with baby arugula on top, with a light salad dressing style sauce. She said that they were very good, and she enjoyed them. Before I offer my comments on my meal, let me say that I understand that Ocean City is a seaside town and that seafood takes the spotlight in just about every restaurant in town. This was reflected in Fager's menu which is three quarters seafood. The remainder of the menu is two steaks, a duck and a vegetarian dish. However, I firmly believe that the kitchen should pay equal attention to any dish on the menu and that they should be properly prepared. I refuse to give a pass to a restaurant that cannot prepare a steak to the proper temperature, just because it is a "seafood restaurant." I ordered the filet mignon medium rare, which was supposedly served with caramelized onions, mashed potatoes and roasted vegetables. The restaurant follows the current trend in serving the entree and starch stacked on top of each other (whoever came up with that idea needs to be tarred and feathered on their way out of town). The steak came out medium well. Medium well done means that the steak is essentially dry and tasteless. The caramelized onions were under the steak, on top of the mashed potatoes, which meant they were essentially lost to the dish. The only thing good I can say about this dish was that the steak was tender as it should be. (Let me also say that I find sending a meal back to be redone is not an acceptable solution. My wife had her meal. Is she supposed to sit there waiting for my meal to come out again? Am I supposed to twiddle my thumbs while she eats? After she finishes and my meal is not back yet, then what? No, the meal should be properly prepared on the first try.) The Kahlua Mousse Chocolate cake was the highlight of the meal in my opinion. A huge, delicious piece that we shared, and had enough to bring some home in a box. So, let me summarize. The ambiance was loud and boisterous. The salad was adequate. The scallops were very good. The steak was a total failure. The dessert was the highlight of the meal. I won't be in any hurry to get back to Fager's Island for ANY meal, let alone a special occasion. read more

Service was a bit slow, but they were friendly. My steak was prepared medium when I asked for medium rare. My friend also received medium and asked for medium well. I had the roasted eggplant app and that was AMAZING. The crab cake was also delicious. There was a mouse running around (which is not uncommon for restaurants by the water) and we did not say anything but the server asked us about it. We were told a manager was going to come over but they never did. There was also a party so only one bar was available to drink at, and they closed it at 10:00pm which is when we finished dinner. Wanting to celebrate a special occasion my husband mentioned coming here. I should disclose I'm a chef so this review is based on my professional opinion. Wait staff were friendly, well trained, and polite. Menu is limited in its offerings and dated. If offering a classic please be able to execute it perfectly. Let's start from the beginning.. rolls on the table aren't made in house and are tasteless as is the butter. Shrimp cocktail served on a long skewer that requires the customer to remove the tiny pieces of red/green peppers between each shrimp just to get to each shrimp served in a tall glass covered in ice. What I presume was a poor attempt at tataki but dry and flavorless. I'm a sushi chef, so you need skill with seasoning AND a knife to pull off tataki. Dinner was suppose to be a Wagyu fillet wasn't prepared correctly. I'd be really surprised if it was Wagyu. Certainly not the quality I've had in the past, I didn't finish it. There was a compound butter on top with truffle shavings that still has the plastic on it. We had to return both steaks. The potatoes Anna didn't seem to be in any type of pattern and what we had was dark, flavorless, and not any better on the second plate. We were offered free deserts to compensate for the steak issue. Portion control was not consistent, the piece of chocolate cake was big enough for 2-3 people. Other observations: outdated sound system. We were seated directly under a JBL speaker that was turned up to I assume accommodate for a loud table using foul language. I didn't hear that table being asked to watch the language. Steps need to be taken to get to seating area. Not the most accessible place. Overall impression: I was at other places on my vacation that had better food, more variety, and cost less. I recommend this as a hard pass. read more

However the bar has an extremely discriminatory policy where they do not accept US green cards as a form of identification. Fager's is a great spot to come and watch the sunset. You can grab a drink, something to eat and listen to 1812 Overture while the sun sets on the horizon of the Assawoman Bay. It is great to watch and enjoy, there is also a gazebo and dock if you just want to enjoy the view without any seating. If you are trying to watch the sunset but don't have a table, people will get upset with you if you stand in front of their table, so be careful where you stand and opt for the dock or gazebo if nothing else is available. Outdoor seating is first come first serve. So we have to literally hawk down people as they are finishing up their meals to try to get a seat. It ends up being very uncomfortable. We were a party of 6 and saw a party of 4 sit at a table that would fit 6 and then less than a minute later a table for 4 opened up. We didn't feel comfortable asking them to switch because one of them had a hard time walking. Our party ended up getting split up and eating at two different tables. A simple hostess would go a long way. The food is OK. I have yet to try anything that totally wow-ed me. I've heard the food inside is much different but I can't say from personal experience. read more

It was my cousins birthday and we ordered the kiss cake and she suggested ice cream to go with it but didn't tell us there was a up charge (not too big of a deal). Then when the dessert came out there was a candle not lit. Not acceptable at all considering I told her it was my cousins birthday. On top of that the food runner when we asked if he can light it for us replied "uuuummmmmm let me get your server" and our server (aligail) took another 10 minutes to come just light the candle for us. When asked the food runner when our food arrived he didn't know, which is okay because if it's not on the ticket how should he. Aligail came 10 minutes later saying the fish isn't fully cooked yet so it's gonna be out real soon. Instead of telling us the truth that she forgot she tried to play it off cool. When eventually it was taking too long and she came to us once again saying the kitchen is kind of busy and the fish tacos will be out in 10 minutes. In total 20 minutes of waiting for our 1 entree. Best part. After dessert she just abandoned us. We waited 10-15 minutes to see if we could see her so we could get our check but couldn't. We heard the restaurant had half priced Prime Rib on Sundays so we took a short trip. We ate in the upstairs dinning room which was great. The view was beyond great, especially at sunset. We took some wonderful photos. When the Prime Rib came out, it looked very good. The baked potato was good and sour cream was provided along with bread and butter. The asparagus was slightly over cooked. The Prime Rib was difficult to cut. It took a lot of work for both of us to finish the meal. The service was excellent. At half price, we made it through the Prime Rib, at full price, we would both have sent it back. It tasted more like Choice grade meat. Since the service and the view was so great, we may return to try some other items on the menu. read more

The bouncer who ran the metal detector was so rude it was insulting. After checking my wife's ID, mind you we just went thru TSA the day before and had no problems; he asked her in front of everyone if she had lost weight because her ID didn't look like her. Discrimination was unreal and our group couldn't get in due to my sister in law who lost weight. They made the situation extremely embarrassing for her and we were livid. We have never been turned away from a bar or club. I understand that you would turn away someone who looks like a minor but after her husband showed their wedding band, insta, and Facebook, they still insulted her and my husband. Ok, so we didn't eat or anything so I cannot review about the food, but I'm writing a review for the ambience, vibe, music and the guys who check you before going in. It was a Friday night and upon presenting my ID, the guy who checks ID actually caught that it was my birthday and after greeting me, let me in for free. That was nice. We entered and there's a number of spots to hang out, but basically, two types of music--DJ or liveband. Considering there's only 1 DJ's music, he was really good!! Thank you for a great time! Late night, I waited in line with my wife & friends only to get turned away because of a "dress code violation". I was wearing black shorts with a barely noticeable "vans" logo, that was less than 1/2"x1". Didn't say anything in return, I accepted my fate as a good sport. It's not sexist at all that I watched chicks wear shorter shorts and get in. Writing this review for guys looking to go to this place with similar attire.
