Their Falafel's Have Lost Their Luster For Me SITREP I live in Midtown on the border of East Sacramento (near Bus 80 and Alhambra, but closer to 29th), and often have to travel the Sac Buslines or Lightrail to get from that border down to the Downtown area. The Falafel Corner was once an enjoyable stop on an itinerary of Downtown treks when the I need to conduct business downtown. I would not normally travel to it UNLESS I had at least one or two errands in the area. But when I DID have a Downtown-trek planned, I always very much looked forward to a stop at the Falafel Corner. THE SETUP My "go-to" dish for my "to-go" lunch cravings was mostly the "Falafel Wrap", a delish Mediterranean flour wrap filled three (3) substantial sized deep-fried Falafel medallions with lettuce, tahini sauce and other yummy spicy ingredients. Sometimes I'd get a Gyro, but not my favorite item at this spot - but a side of Dolmas was always nice along with the falafel wrap - or sometimes just the Dolmas! I'd average a stop here almost once a month - almost commensurate with pay day when I would traffic to my nearest Credit Union ATM machine (none close by in Midtown since they closed the one @ 23rd & K) and grab some cash for the month, at the ATM just 2 blocks away from the Falafel Corner. DISAPPOINTMENT Well, today I stopped to get my lunchtime Falafel Wrap and when I checked the Falafel and unwrapped it to add more spice, the two inside medallions were much smaller now, and they tasted qualitative inferior to the large medallion that they sneakily put at the top so it was the medallion that actually peeks out from the wrap. You wouldn't notice the 2 smaller falafel medallions unless you opened the wrap. This feels purpose, sneaky and bad intent since every falafel wrap in the past were the same three (3) higher quality tasting large medallions. THE LOWDOWN I am no longer enthusiastically recommending the falafel wrap at this spot. I might still get it once in a blue moon, especially if I make clear I'll only get it if I get the 3 better tasting larger falafel medallions in my wrap. read more

Food - not good, falafel tastes like it was frozen and reheated. fries are from restaurant depot or another similar store. Burgers, American Food, Falafel and Gyros. Basic decor, order at the counter and enjoy the food. I wasn't sure what to get here from the Burger side or the Mediterranean side of the menu. I opted for both. Got the fish burger meal with curly fries. It's a nice filet-o-fish burger - fries were good as well. The falafel balls are pretty huge here. A side of them has 4. OMG this is the most flavorfully delicious gyro wrap I've ever tasted! The meat is moist and warm and their entire wrap is neatly served in a warm pita. And there's plenty of it, too. Worth every penny. A display case contains various Turkish delights and baklavas. I loved the lemon flavor along with the traditional baklava. Less than $2!! I came back here for the first time in a while... really bad experience with the staff. I tried and tried to call in my order; no one picked up the phone. I got there, and the desk clerk, who wasn't even by the desk, just kind of glared at me and then went back to doing some other stuff, leaving me hanging at the counter for like five minutes. No one else was in line. When he finally came over, I ordered, and then asked about why I couldn't call ahead and make a phone order. At that, the dude at the counter was like, "What phone order? I don't recognize your voice." Yeah, because he never picked up the phone. So I place my order at last, looking at en extra 20 minute wait now that shouldn't have happened... and as soon as I finish paying, the staff guy swivels the terminal away from me, jams a bunch of buttons on it and walks away. As it happens, I needed a receipt for work, and he'd gone ahead and decided to hit all the buttons saying I didn't need one, without bothering to ask. So then that became a whole thing. I asked for my receipt, and he acted all put out, and then he printed out a receipt that had the wrong total on it and wrong payment info. That obviously was no good, and when I pointed out that the receipt wasn't even right, he got huffy and printed out a different receipt that had none of the actual food listed on it, which I also couldn't use. When I pointed that out, he shrugged and gave up and got someone else to help me, who to be fair actually did help. But damn, why are you gonna go out of your way as a clerk to over and over give a hard time to someone who's just trying to patronize your place? I used to like this place, but if they can't do right by their customers, I'm gonna start going to King's Halal down the block instead. I don't need to be treated like I'm an inconvenience just for being a customer, and if you're reading this, you probably don't need that either. read more

Wanted a unique local place to grab a late lunch. Meters across the street were readily available on this Friday mid-afternoon. Two small groups ahead of us meant we waited about 15 min before ordering. Food took another 20+ minutes to arrive but it was excellent! We were in the downtown area and after the reviews we decided to give a try. The restaurant seemed outdated and a little dirty. The food was flavorful and plenty. I did noticed that their falafels were frozen so I'm not sure if they buy them in bulk or if they actually made them themselves. The service was a little slow but it was lunch hour and all tables were taken. I have been here two times now. This time was with my brother while biking around town. We have had gyros at Sac State many times and love them. The experience here was great, I got the chicken Gyro and brother got the falafel Gyro. Was very good, those chicken pieces were pretty large and the sauce flavors had a nice kick. One of the better Falafel places I've had here in the West Coast. I ordered the chicken wrap. The chicken is so tender and flavorful with the traditional herbs. The m creamy white sauce is soo good! Service is quick and they are friendly. They also have pastries that are tempting to buy as well. I haven't tried them but I will be back to try the baklava. I pretty much had to wait in line and order like everyone else, even after calling in my order. When I did receive my food, I was given no bag, no napkins. The worker just rushed my food out on the counter and ran to the register since someone had been waiting a whole 30 seconds there. Food was good. Satisfactory Falafel! Recently got together with some friends for lunch during the work week and we settled on going to Falafel Corner downtown. My buddy spoke highly of the service and food so I went in with high expectations. I just finished a mid day workout so I was feeling hungry. I went with the combo platter which consisted of Chicken, Gyro, Salad, Rice, Salata, Tzatziki, Hummus and Pita bread. I waited for maybe 2-3 minutes before my plate was already out! The plate was absolutely stacked with food and for the price ($12.49 + tax) it was totally worth it. I got through about 1/3 of it before I packed the rest for later. The food was very fresh and packed with flavor. The Gyro was phenomenal! The salad was light and refreshing and the meat was over a rather large amount of tasty rice. No complaints because I love rice (Rice4Life!). I preferred the Gyro over the Chicken but that's not to discredit the chicken, it was great as well! Upon arriving we managed to snag seats during a relatively busy lunch hour and get our orders in. The staff working behind the counter seemed energetic and happy to help. The location itself is not super appealing on the outside but the food and service was superior which was all that mattered in the end! Looking forward to heading back and trying a their burgers..
