Place is clean and quaint little outside tables to sit on if you don't mind being in the airport industrial area eating. Nice to pick up meal and drive to end of lagoon drive to watch the planes taking off and landing. Lots of parking and at airport end of restaurant strip. The parking is shared with the airport trade center vendors. Family bbq is located at the left side of the center. I ordered the lunch box which was a very big plate. Comes with meat jun, bbq chicken and Terri beef, you get 2 sides. I did enjoy it and it had a lot of great flavor. Their service is good and the girl who was working reminded me to validate my parking. I hold off on the extra star because their bentos were sitting out side with out heaters so if you buy it to eat it's cold. Not sure if people like cold bentos but turned me off from purchasing one. Walked in very helpful. Bout 3 bentos and one musubi 24 dollars not bad and the bentos are packed. And they give you sauces some places forget. The meat jun was okay. The BBQ chicken I had was really dry. The kimchi was not good. If you're a Mac Salad connesuire, you will not like the Mac Salad. The counter workers were mixing up people's credit cards. Guy almost walked out with mine. BUT they have musubis and bentos that are convenient when you need to grab-and-go. Nice like Korean bbq take out in the little mall by the airport. Relatively quiet area on both my visits on a Saturday. Staff is very friendly and had time to explain items and offered to try some of their vegetables. Every day there is a daily special and it's basically $.50 off their regular plate. Most regular plates are priced at $9.55 which is not bad. I got the House special which is $11.95 and has Kalbi, meat jun, beef, mandoo and bbq chicken. Not too bad of a deal. Each plate also comes with 4 side dishes. If you're in the area and not sure where to eat, I would suggest checking out family bbq. Found this little gem when my multiple calls to a popular Korean bbq place in the Salt Lake Shopping Center either wouldn't get picked up or got a busy signal. Family BBQ's kalbi is tender (while the kalbi at the other place is tough) AND you can choose 4 sides (regular size "plate") out of over a dozen options (no options at the other place - you get what they give you - usually Kimchee and bean sprouts). This place with so tasty with the BEST, I mean the BEST customer service. I was looking for a good Korean food to be catered to my baby's 1st birthday party and it took me a while to find one! I went over to Family BBQ under a recommendation from a friend and asked them about catering and what foods would be best. They let me try samples of their food for free so that I can choose for myself. I loved everything! I especially loved the chicken katsu and the spicy pork but you can't go wrong with whatever you choose because everything is delicious. I ordered for 50 people and felt great about the food part of the party! When it came to the party date, they catered right on time and even gave me extra food!!!! They even wrote a cute note saying Happy 1st Birthday which was so thoughtful. A++++ for customer service. All our guests loved the food and I am surprised it is not as popular as it should be. I have only lived here for 2 years so I have yet to know all the popular places but this should be on the top for Korean food. I am full Korean and loved their food for sure!!! The Korean owner was very rude!!! It was the first time I like trying their food because the reviews on here are great and I admit that the food was good. However, I was frustrated when could not find the price of soft drinks posted anywhere. Therefore I ask the Micronesian, I assumed, cashier lady about that and got the wrong info so I paid for the smaller size which was $1.85 plus tax. The rude owner came out madly from the kitchen and asked me to pay the whole price of $2.70 plus tax instead of just the differrence of $0.85 plus tax without listening about what happened first. When I tried to explain it, she kept yelling back at me and blaming the polite Micronesian cashier. I gave her a suggestion politly that she should post the price of soft drinks somewhere. She refused by telling me that there is no available space for it while there apparently is enough space to do it right on the drink machine where only price of refills was posted. Why on earth are they posting only the price for refills but not for a regular cup of drinks? I wonder if the Korean lady never made any single mistake in her life. Love this little mom-n-pop shop located right by the Honolulu International Airport! I stopped in one morning to grab a breakfast bento for my son and came in because of all the great Yelp reviews. Located on the end of a small strip mall by the airport, Family BBQ is certainly family run spot as we walked in and were greeted by a man making musubis at the counter. They were prepping all their bentos for the morning and we grabbed a simple egg, sausage and rice mini-bento for about $4. It was a simple breakfast but it was just the right amount of food to satisfy my little guy's appetite before we started our day running errands. The man at the counter was nice enough to give my son a free cup of fruit punch as a treat which I thought was so sweet! We'll definitely be back to try their infamous spicy pork for dinner. Been here a couple times to order takeout before heading to work. Not bad price for a mini kalbi $8 something. You get about three pieces that comes cut up with two choices of sides. First time, I am trying this place in the Airport Trade Center as some coworkers wanted to order food from here for lunch. One coworker looked it up on Yelp and she said, the lunch special looks good. But, she already had her home lunch to eat for today. So, she didn't order anything this time. So, the 3 of us ordered their lunch special which has kal bi, bbq chicken, 1 fried shrimp, 2 man doo, rice and choice of 2 side dishes of which we chose kim chee and corn for all 3 plates to make things easier. The food looked good and everyone said, that it tasted good. The 3 of us only ate half of the plate as it was too much food to eat at one sitting. It will be eaten later as we all get hungry again later in the day. Also, hold onto your parking ticket and get it validated from where ever you are eating at and it's good for up to 2 hours!! This is the only place i will go for a plate lunch. Clean friendly and so ONO...that means delicious. During lunch and dinner time this place gets packed...they say a line in front of a restaurant means its that good. I personally like their bentos, but these get sold out so fast you have to come in the morning or there will only be a few to choose from. During lunch they have daily specials so be sure to check for those. Their price is affordable to begin with and they bring it down more on the specials. However don't let the price fool you, some might assume that they skimp on the food...but they give you a FULL plate... most of the mini plates come with a huge scoop of rice and 2 choices of sides and a regular comes with 2 huge scoops of rice and 4 choices of sides... Everything is Super good and the service is great. Seems like everyone is treated like family. While waiting for my food i noticed that some of the people made it a point to come to Family BBQ when they visit the island. This little gem is tucked away in the Airport Trade Center. As someone who is Half Korean, I am particular on my Korean Food. For example you will not find me frequenting Yummy's, and Family BBQ is delicious at a very reasonable price! I usually get a mini spicy bbq chicken plate, this is quick to come out and has a kick to your normal bbq chicken. I've also had their pre-made bentos and I've enjoyed everything. Their kim chee is won bok and not made from head cabbage. I think it's a sin to make kim chee from head cabbage. Their other namul aka "vegetable choices" are good too! That's why I enjoy their bimbimbap or bimbim gooksoo. Granted it's not the best Korean I've ever had, that's reserved from my mom, but it is a good bang for your buck! Despite the four stars, be warned. I ordered a very easy dish: mini bbq chicken which came with two sides. While the side dishes were fine, standard fare like at most Korean joints, my chicken was spoiled. It was actually SOUR. Gag at first bite. I even attempted to eat it multiple times after the first bite, huge mistake... as I don't feel too well right now because of the small portion I did manage to force down my throat. Even my brother who is nicknamed "the garbage can" couldn't stomach it. Who the heck messes up bbq chicken? While the owner/cashier lady is very nice, it is no excuse for spoiled food. Came here for lunch and ordered a mini fish jun plate for $5.97 (w/ tax) and it was pretty good but just a tad bit bland. so dipping it in the sauce just did the trick. Punahou Carnival wore me out and after I napped, I was quite starving. I guess the Teri cheeseburger, some nachos, and a malasada for lunch wasn't enough. I was yelping to see what we could try. It was between Ricardo's and here. My husband said we had pasta a bunch last week so we thought we would eat Korean. We got here at 7:30, 30 minutes to close. Parking was easy enough since it was later at night and not too many places were open. I got the fish jun and my husband got the house special. I ended up getting cucumber Kim chee, regular Kim chee, bean sprouts, and broccoli. The sides weren't that amazing. My fish jun was alright as this was the first time I tried fish jun; I normally eat meat jun. My husband's meal came with kalbi (small bone kind), 2 pieces of beef, 1 chicken, 2 pieces of meat jun, and 1 mandoo. His also came with noodles. I tried the kalbi but there wasn't a whole lot of meat on it. The flavor was good though. Everything else was alright too. Nothing stood out in my mind. I asked if his noodles were good and he said it was better than the rice but that's it. The service was just okay too. You really have no idea who the cashier calling when she's like what do you want? She wasn't friendly but not mean or rude either. Normally I would increase a star for hospitality but since it wasn't that amazing, I'll leave it at three stars. Food came out to $22 or so for 2 adults and my son sharing my meal. It wasn't too pricey considering it's always about $10 for a full or regular size plate of food at Korean restaurants now. Just FYI it's $3.50 or more if you want to use your credit card and it's s best to take out as the tables are small. read more

Family BBQ is probably my most favorite Korean food joint on the island -- that's a loaded statement filled with truth. I like to joke with my friends that it was Family BBQ's food that got me pregnant last year. See, I work at the airport, so at the end of each shift I'd pick something up from Family BBQ. Whether it be the special of the day or a bento, their food never disappoints. My favorite day is Monday, because that's when Meat Jun (my favorite!) is on special. Beware of the lunchtime hour, especially on the weekdays. Hawaiian Airlines Corporate Office is next door, so be prepared to see lots of employees and new trainees in a line that's out the door. If you're in a mad rush, just get a bento so you won't have to wait. That's why I couldn't give them 5 stars. Love the food, but it's a really small place with just a few tables so it can get cramped at times. They take phone and fax orders too, so be sure to consider them for your next office lunch! read more

Prices have gone up over the years...I found an old menu in my office, I think the prices went up at least $2 to $3, but it's still a good value. The daily specials are a good deal, but all the plates are reasonably prices. Regular plates come with four sides, mini comes with two. All the usual Korean sides, good selection and they give you good amounts. Also good grab and go bentos available. Lunch time gets pretty busy so if you order something like the bi bim kook soo or any of the soup, call it in so you don't wait too long. I like the yook gae jang, one of the better ones available, plus its a lot of food and nice and spicy. I like to also get a spicy spam musubi for breakfast...yum yum my fav! made with the tabasco spam and even a little egg...great breakfast snack in the morning! If you don't like spicy, regular is available. Lots of parking if you actually need to drive here, I just ride the elevator. read more

Sometimes, you just gotta have Korea food. I had a craving for Kalbi for a while, and the Family BBQ never disappoint. The Kalbi is tender and tasty, the chicken katsu is always crispy, and the side vegetables are always fresh and plentyful. This place is a hidden gem in the Airport Trade Center (Thanks Yelp!) Beware, it can get really busy during lunch hour so you better know what you want to order or be prepared to give up your spot to someone who does. Don't want to get Korean mama angry. Anyways, the Bi bim kook soo was really good, don't be fooled by the noodle to meat ratio, I tried to ration because I thought the meat wasn't enough (I'm one of those people who like to have everything in each bite) but I was left with a good amount of meat and no noodles. lol Also, the meat jun is delicious. I LOVE CHAP JAE!! The broccoli with sesame is also really delicious, not overcooked at all.
