FIRST TIME trying this place out. Very small restaurant with only 2 person tables for dining in. Got there close to 1pm and there were three people waiting for their orders. We were looking for a place to get lunch thatbwasnt too crowded. Checked them out on Yelp and saw that they had 4 stars so we decided to try them out. We ordered: 1. Mini Spicy BBQ Chicken 2. Regular Kalbi The meats were good and cooked well but the banchan (bean spouts, seaweed, cucumber kim chee, pickled raddish & tofu) were bland. I paid $22.75 for a regular kalbi plate before tax and it only came with two pieces cut into 6 pieces. I was shocked as all of the other korean restaurants that I go to have three pieces making 9 bones with the same price. I love the banchan and it was disappointing that all of the ones I ordered had no flavor. It was so bad that I couldn't eat it and had to throw it out. I probably will not be returning to this restaurant due to the flavorless banchan and overpriced plates.

Mini Garlic Chicken with daikon/carrots and fish cakes

Why haven't I heard of them sooner?! I guess I'll need to take more trips. Located in the parking lot before the airport, across of McDonalds and IHOP, Family BBQ is tucked away on the left most corner (towards the airport). We got the garlic chicken and spicy BBQ chicken. The spicy BBQ chicken was very tender, moist and tasty! The taste mostly comes from the sauce, which is garlicy and honestly, not super spicy. It has a tiny kick. The star of the show is the garlic chicken. They're in like smaller bites and pieces but oh man, so packed with flavor! Reminds of famous garlic chicken places, but better. Banchan was all delicious. The daikon is refreshing, not too vinegary. The kimchi is delicious! Not watery nor too salty. Bean sprouts are great and fish cakes were tasty! Quantity of food was superb! Nowadays, can't get a MINI more than $15 but the minis here were actually under that. I got two thighs in my mini! They are incredibly generous, and the food is actually good. They're not like other Korean Plate lunch places that only give you a lot, but a lot of meh food. Prices obviously are justified. Now I have a reason to go to the airport early to pickup or drop-off people. I can now make them pay me with food from here ;) Its definitely worth it!

I was in the area and decided to try something new. I looked up the reviews of this place and was curious to try their Kalbi since many high rated reviews highlighted it. I ordered a regular combo plate with Kalbi & Chicken Katsu. The Kalbi wasn't too flavorful. The Katsu was over fried which made it a little tough and dried out the chicken a bit. I enjoyed the dipping sauce for it though. The service wasn't very cheerful. I had asked for a recommendation on their Korean sides (I had 4 to choose for my plate) The woman told me "I don't know... you choose". The sides to choose from weren't very flavorful. I got the shoyu potato, cucumber kimchee, seaweed salad and battered zucchini. The ambiance isn't much of an experience. There's two two-seater tables tucked in the corner. More of a grab and go spot. Not accommodating for large parties. I did notice, but didn't mention to the woman, that she charged me 24.97 for regular combo plate but the sign reads $23.95. I had planned to tip already so I let it slide but just something to note when ordering here to be mindful of possible pricing adjustments at checkout. Areas of excellence- Katsu sauce! For those who prefer a more thicker, ketchup based sauce- this place has it. Areas of opportunity- Marinate the Kalbi! Even providing a sauce to drizzle on top would be a game changer! Shorter cook time for the Chicken Katsu - it will keep the chicken moist. Ensure the side dishes are well seasoned and flavorful. Encourage staff to be more engaging and friendly. It will add to the joy and experience for customers. Honor pricing as advertised. If there is a percentage added for using credit cards for example, let people know ahead of time or provide signs so they are informed. Applying these suggestions will improve your product and have customers come back for more! Reach out my way if you implement these suggestions! I'm more than happy to write an updated review for this business.

This is a MUST-VISIT place!!!! Highly recommend. I always order the regular Kalbi plate. Best Kalbi on the island I am convinced. Ask for Sue and tell her Eddie sent you. Chef's kiss.

My friend suggested to have lunch here and Boy! This was a surprise in a good way. The food was delicious and fresh. I had a pulled pork sandwich with 2 sides which was Mac and cheese and green beans and potatoes salad. All delicious! The server was very knowledgeable with the menu and she was very friendly. The menu counts with chicken wings and burgers and plenty of sides. Highly recommend this place!

No frills, hole-in-the-wall Hawaiian BBQ with HUGE portion sizes and variety of banchan to choose from (DREAM...COME...TRUE!). Definitely more of a takeout location as there is not much seating inside. I got the BBQ chicken "regular size", which comes with four sides and two scoops of rice. They do a mean BBQ chicken. This was the perfect takeout meal to take with me on the flight back, and conveniently located near the airport. I felt bad eating it around others on the plane, but I just couldn't resist! Until next visit!

Kal bi, japchae, potatoes, fish cake and cabbage

First day on Oahu and came here after arriving from the airport, so this was a great first meal! It is a small hole in the wall place with two tables for 4 people and outdoor seating without any umbrellas. I heard they used to have them though. Luckily there were 2 construction workers that finished their meal not too long after we placed our order, so our party of 4 was able to sit down out of the heat. The sides were tasty and at the counter. My favorite was the japchae and the potatoes that were slightly sweet! The Kal bi had about 6-7 pieces, freshly cooked and so delicious! This place was busy during the amount of time we sat down here but the wait time is pretty speedy and take out is available with Apple Pay. Definitely coming back here!

I haven't been here before but we were in the neighborhood. Writing a review while we wait for our food. The staff was nice and the inside was clean. Ordered takeout hope the food is good! Just wanted some fresh pictures of the menus and the pricing.

    The plastic in my food

If you like to eat plastic, this place would be perfect for you.... Found this plastic in my food, it was right on top of my spicy pork. I got a really bad stomachache afterwards. Will never go back there.

Been off the island for a bit but glad to see some places still stand. Small spot but good food.

Grab and go bentos and spam musubi. Lots of sides for the plate lunches.
    Kurt F.

Good local Korean plate lunch place near the airport. Got the meat jun plate which was tasty and plentiful. They had a lot of authentic sides to choose from which were on point. Also noticed they had a good assortment of grab and go bentos and spam musubi. Good place to check out if you are on the way to or from the airport to quickly grab a bento or plate lunch. At 10a it wasn't crowded and was able to grab food quickly and be on my way. Parking super easy with a huge lot.

    Menu

Two and a half. The bbq chicken had little to no taste. Maybe they didn't get to marinate it long enough. The meat jun was ok nothing extra. The teriyaki meat was decent but just not enough depth in flavors. The rice was a bit mushy. However the chap chae was decent enough even without any vegetables in it. It is on the sweeter side. The cucumber Kim chee wasn't kim chee just spicy cucumber and the broccoli was good. The zucchini Jun wasn't anything to be happy about. No flavor no seasoning. I was just disappointed because I was told it was going to be good. It's ok. I feel that most Korean places have their own style and flavors but when the flavors are non existent In today's hard times, you must stand out. This place just didn't stand out. The lady behind the counter was very pleasant and made sure to ask her patrons if everything was good. However how does one say the food wasn't good? I think if you like bland Korean food, this is the place.

So many of the Korean restaurants in Honolulu have servers who are actually mean to the customers and we now refuse to give them our dining dollars. The more modern Korean restaurants are providing much better customer experiences so that a customer becomes a life-long customer who spreads the word to family and friends and who keeps coming back for life. Does anyone remember the "Angry Korean Auntie" who used to run her restaurant like Seinfeld's "Soup Nazi'? That is the kind of service that we try to avoid now regardless of food quality. The atmosphere here is elegant and welcoming and the food is excellent and the ban chans served here are better than any other Korean restaurant in Honolulu. We enjoy coming here and never smell like BBQ when we leave, LOL, due to efficient fans and AC's. We went with the Prix Fixe Menu of the 9 courses, for $70 per person. First we were given the banchans. They have A LOT and I love banchans so it was a great start to the meal. I wonder if you could get refills on the banchans like many other KBBQ spots... I didn't get the chance to find out as I was STUFFED by the end of my meal. The steamed egg also came fairly fast, they offered to serve it for us which we took up on that offer. Then we also received the kimchi pancake. Here is what I'd note, I am a bit confused on the portion sizes. As the prix fixe menu is per person, shouldn't the dishes and servings per person? Like why would the kimchi pancake be one and shared between two? As well as the egg? We then got all of the various cuts of the meats. Everything was good and quite enjoyable. We also had a choice between soup (soybean or tofu) and cold noodles (reg or spicy). We both chose the spicy cold noodles. It was very good and a refreshing side to pair with the KBBQ. We were honestly stuffed by the end of our meal and enjoyed it all. Despite my slight concern/confusion regarding the serving/pricing, I would possibly come back. Although I usually go for an AYCE kbbq spot as it is definitely more worth it value wise.

We are extremely disappointed with our recent experience…read more We've been loyal customers and typically eat here twice a week whenever we're on assignment on the island in the last five years. We have also left two previous positive reviews because we've genuinely enjoyed the food and wanted to support this small business. Earlier this week, we ordered the bulgogi for our kids, but the meat was too chewy and tough making it inedible. Wanting to give the restaurant the benefit of the doubt, we ordered the bulgogi again the following day and even requested it be cooked well done. Unfortunately, it had the same too chewy and tough texture, and again, could not be eaten. After feeding the kids something else, bathing them, and putting them to bed, I called the restaurant around 10:00 p.m., but they had already closed. I called the next day, and the owner (a lady with glasses) returned my call. Instead of listening to my concerns, she repeatedly interrupted me and spoke in a passive-aggressive, dismissive manner. I was on speakerphone with four other adults in the car, and everyone commented on how unhelpful and condescending the conversation felt. I explained that I wasn't calling simply to complain - I wanted to share feedback because we genuinely care about the restaurant and have supported it for a long time. I even mentioned that I had previously provided constructive feedback about the takeout bowls, which the restaurant later improved. Before I could finish, she cut me off and said, "We're not talking about the to-go bowls right now, are we? We're talking about your bulgogi." She insisted that if I wanted a refund, I needed to return to the restaurant in person, and that if something was wrong in the future, I should come back immediately so they could remake it. Unfortunately, that's simply not realistic for us. We're staying in a hotel with two young children, and the restaurant is about 40 minutes away. By the time we discovered the problem, got the kids settled, and called, making another round trip would have meant roughly 80 minutes of additional driving with tired, hungry children. I understand that mistakes happen, and I wasn't expecting perfection. What disappointed me most was how the concern was handled. This business does not value customer feedback and will never first listen respectfully, even from repeat customers who have consistently supported and recommended them. Sadly, based on this experience with both the food quality and the customer service, we won't be returning.
