Second time here Foods good, a little pricey but you get a good amount. The wait is a little long. Got my plate with items on top of it, asked for a bag and lady said "oh no more bags." While there's a stack of plastic bags behind her. Asked for one behind her and she said "oh can't use it it's bad for the planet." FIRST TIMER AT FAMILY BBQ Definitely one of my top places to go for spicy pork! I ordered a regular spicy pork & spicy bbq chicken combo plate with Tofu, Sweet long rice, Zucchini w/egg & Kimchi. It was around 12:15p so definitely lunch rush hour especially the area it's located. You could clearly see the clusters of people trying to grub before returning to work. My food was great! I was in awe of the spicy pork for sure & have been craving it ever since trying it three days ago. Hubby, daughter and I came here for an early dinner. Hubby was hungry. It's located in a secured gated parking with a ticket machine where you take a ticket. Ticket must be validated by the food location you go to. If you are there more than two hours, you must pay. We didn't stay long. We ordered our food, ate and left. As for the food, I was craving noodles so I got the fried noodles which was a whole plate. It was filled with pieces of spam, cabbage, green onions and lots of noodles. It was good and filling. After awhile, I could taste all the salt so I had to stop eating the noodles. To drink I had a sweetened green tea but it lacked flavor and my daughter complained her soda had no fizz so their soda fountain wasn't maintained. Took off a star for that. Had my order delivered through Bite Squad and when I opened my plate I didn't get what I ordered. It was clearly written on the outside of my container what I wanted as one of my sides. I ordered lotus root 2xs and fish cake 2xs and they gave me shoyu potatoes instead. I did notice in another person last review they had the same problem where they didn't get what ordered and was given something. Close Korean BBQ takeout place to my parents place. Parking is validated from the business owner. I ordered the combination plate of meat jun and bbq chicken with 4 banchan. My banchan was the kimchee, broccoli, bean sprouts, and cabbage. I love banchan and this did not disappoint. Of the 4, the kimchee was the best. It was fresh and not sour. Nice tangy taste. My dish was for 2 people. I ate only the meat jun portion. I thought the meat jun was fried well, but could have been cooked more to be crispy. The sauce was ok. For a place that is right next to the airport and may have many non-locals coming through, the ladies inside we're not very helpful or considerate. Even though there was no other customer inside when walked in, no one greeted us nor offered to explain anything. There was a woman behind the counter and another sitting at one of the 3 tables inside. Once we figured out what to order, we stood around since ALL the tables had boxes of orders on them. I suppose we looked confused enough for the lady sitting at the table to ask us if we wanted to sit and she moved the boxes around so we would have somewhere to wait and eat our $30 meal. Forced to stay near the airport on account of missing a flight home, I was delighted to find the Family BBQ within walking distance of our hotel. This place serves big portions of tasty Hawaiian and Korean food at good prices! Tonight, I had the BBQ Spicy Chicken mini, which came with two vegetable sides and rice. Plenty of food! I got lotus root and cabbage as sides, and both were great. The cabbage, in particular, was not over boiled and still had that wonderful crunch and nice color. The rice was soft and moist, and I devoured it all! The shop is smaller than others in the Airport Shopping Plaza, with only two small tables inside. But there are four more just outside for the Plaza's use. I get the feeling that most orders are to-go, anyway. Next time you are near the airport or just hankering for some great Korean bbq food, give the Family BBQ a try! You won't be disappointed! read more

If you work or live close to the airport and want Korean food, Family BBQ is the place to go. It's even great for ordering a plate lunch before you catch a flight. This is probably the closest location to me with reasonably-priced Korean food. Everything is to-go, and the staff is very courteous. After you order, they ask you to wait outside. Once my food was finished, the lady even brought my food to my car parked right outside. By the way, the parking is free for 2 hours if you have them validate your ticket. My go to meal is meat jun. I love the taste of the semi-sweet egg-battered beef. Yummy. They have all kinds of sides as well. You have the normal Mac salad, seaweed, Kim chee, corn, potato, but you gotta try their fish skin. It doesn't look like it because it's sliced and marinated in Kim chee sauce. So yummy! In the mornings, they have some food that is already pre-packed and ready to go, which is very convenient. Came here one afternoon as I was in the area for work. Food is mediovre at best. The service needs help. They were rather rude. I don't believe I did anything to provoke that. I ordered and stepped aside waiting for my food as all the tables were taken. And it wasn't what they said to me, as they did not talk to me at all unless they had to like to take my order and tell me my order was ready. They were making unfriendly looks at me as if my presence bothered them somehow. I didn't like the vibe I was getting from the two behind the counter who continually talked to each other even when they were assisting customers. I just ignored and fiddled with my phone while I waited as I was by myself. This place is small. Very few tables inside. I remember this place being a lot better before. What a pleasant surprise finding this place called - "Family BBQ" in the airport area! Yesterday when I got back to Oahu from Maui, for some reason Hawaiian Airlines didn't load my gear onto the flight I was on, therefore I was stuck waiting in the airport for my gear to arrive 2 hours later........... Upon walking into Family BBQ, I could see it was a small restaurant...........more like a grab & go kinda place. There were only 3 small tables inside the restaurant to sit & eat, but don't fret for folks............if you're there, and all the tables are taken inside the restaurant, there are a few outdoor tables & benches to sit down on to eat within the Airport Trade Center facility. Upon looking at the wall menu, I decided to get a BBQ Chicken plate, and with my plate you get (4) sides, so I picked the following items - Kimchee, Long Rice, Broccoli, & String Beans. Family BBQ offers brown rice for additional $0.60, otherwise your plate will come with the standard white rice. What can I say about the food? Overall, the food was just okay for me............nothing outstanding as far as taste of the BBQ Chicken, I'd probably rate it a solid "3" for the food, but I did bump up an extra star for this place, as the people who worked here were very friendly. When I was able to finally secure a table inside the restaurant to eat (it was full when I walked in), one of the clerks who took my food order noticed the table was a bit dirty, so she immediately came out from behind the food counter, and wiped up my table. While I was eating, several times she asked me if I needed more water, and asked me how the food was............great customer service here! The BBQ Chicken plate I order was pretty generous too............as it could have fed at least two people, and the cost of my plate was just $10.00 (with tax). A pretty good value! Classic local Korean BBQ, you'll get generous portions, pretty good food and reasonable prices. That's a great formula for multiple visits. The mini family pack for $31.99 is meant for 3 and it's really enough for 4 with above average appetites. It comes with rice, 3 sides, mandoo, kalbi, chicken, beef and meat jun. The kalbi is cut for you with the bones, but some pieces were burnt. The beef and meat jun was the highlights of the family pack. For the sides, the kim chee is on the sweet side, chop chae a bit too salty. But the potatoes are just right and their cabbage has a slight sesame oil flavor. You should check out their daily specials, for Saturday, it's fish jun for $9.10. Another pretty good dish and like their other plates, it's a generous portion. The batter is a bit densely packed, not light and fluffy like Lili's but it's seasoned very well and the sauces are good compliments. I ordered the Spicy BBQ Chicken / Kalbi plate and once I got it I was happy they gave a generous portion, the taste was good so nothing to complain about. My coworkers plates looked equally decent and got no complaints from them so that's always good. They were quite friendly and helpful and the location has generous amounts of parking so it's a easy place to get food from. Possibly the only complaint is that there are very few places to sit about two inside and four tables outside which are shared with the other food establishments in the building. This is probably the best "hole in the wall" place to get good Korean BBQ. For years, Family BBQ has been my go-to place to get lunch when I feel like eating rice, veggies and meat as it's conveniently located just down the street from where I work. However, I often crave their food so even on my days off, I find myself going to Family BBQ for lunch or dinner. I highly recommend calling in your order for lunch as the line gets pretty long during the lunch rush. Family BBQ is like a little cubby hole in the Airport Trade Center so the line often goes out the door. The neat thing is, they have pre-made musubis and bentos so if you're in a hurry, you can just grab one and go. They also have a daily special so whatever the daily special is, it's a discounted price. The menu items that I order on a regular basis are: chicken katsu, spicy BBQ chicken and shrimp tempura. Their shrimp tempura is very different from Japanese-style shrimp tempura. They have a nice crispy batter around the shrimp with bits and pieces of peanuts on it-it's delicious! They accept both cash and cards and the staff is always very friendly. Prices are very reasonable and they have a lot of good vegetable choices. My mouth is actually watering while I write this review so I'm certain this is where I'm heading for lunch today! read more

They have a nice variety of bentos, musubis and plates to choose from. The guy before us recommended the house special so we ordered that. We weren't disappointed. It came with a choice of 3 veggie dishes, rice and noodles, teri chicken, beef and meat jun. All of that was about $12 and more than enough for 2 people. This place was super salty and the gravy wasn't even that good. The gravy was terrible and I just hated the hamburger steak! I would like to add that I've had my share of hamburger steak in life and would consider myself kind of a connoisseur. Do not order the hamburger steak! Bi Bim Bap for breakfast? Yum, yes, why not? We're staying at an airport hotel nearby and discovered this delightful place yesterday. We're back for breakfast. Food is fresh and homemade. BBQ chicken Korean style was delish with my choice of 4 sides, all excellent. Today I'm having Bi Bim bap with chicken and all the vegetables that it comes with. Be sure to ask for the tasty red hot sauce that it comes with...its mild compared to Thai spice levels, and its tasty. Kim chi is tasty, glass noodles are good, broccoli tasted so fresh, and lotus root was fun to try. I'm a fan of Family BBQ, and prices are reasonable. You order at the counter. Disclaimer...this review is based on the food I had that day only. I know most people love this place from the reviews I read, but I have to always keep it real. So I had to go to the airport for business, and as I waited I figured I better eat while I can, so Korean sounded great. Now, this is important, i spent most of my childhood growing up in Korea so I KNOW genuine Korean food. So ordered bi Bim kook so and let's say it was the first time in my entire life that the toppings were under the noodles....and I don't mean a small amount of noodles... I mean a pound of cold noodles. Typically the kimchi, bean sprouts, meat ,cucumbers , etc are on top and then you mix.....not this time so it was difficult to not make a mess....this alone killed all the good stuff the place had going. The good stuff was a super nice owner, pretty clean for a small joint, their Bento looked great, and definitely a great deal for the price. Again, I hate to be the black sheep and would probably come back for a Bento to take on a flight, but this place would not come top of mind for a hunger for Korean. read more

Even compared to the plate lunch places in town, I really like this place. They even sell bentos which I've heard are good. The owners and staff are friendly and service is good. Parking is easy and validated for free. Location is good for when you're by the airport and have limited eating options. When I'm in the area, I'll always choose this place over others in the area. Let's just say, dang, that's a heavy and gratifying plate! FOOD Let me just say pretty much everything is flavorsome, but my favorite (and my family, especially the hubby) is the MOCHIKO CHICKEN. Their chicken is not the crispy type. It has a sweet, mochi taste and consistency. Their SPICY PORK is on point with it's spicy, sweet love. The MEAT & FISH JUN batter is decent and yummy. The dipping sauce is more on the saltier side. I prefer the sweeter jun dipping sauce to balance my salty jun, but it's still good though. I love their sides also! Uh hello, their thin slices of FISH CAKE and ZUCCHINI TEMPURA is the bomb diggity! Best sides ever. They also have bentos. ENVIRONMENT Located in the Airport Trade Center. There are only 2 tables. So, it's probably best just to take out. Fairly clean. Private lot with lots of free parking. SERVICE They seem pretty nice and especially friendly to their regulars. I'm just happy about their generous portions. CONCLUSION This is a great korean plate lunch place to try especially if you're heading or coming from the airport. Yoboseyo. Higher quality fast food Korean. That's the best way to describe this place. I've been coming to this place for awhile since I've worked near here for many years. It's small, only a couple places to sit at to eat inside and there's a couple seats outside as well. It's on the far left side of the Airport Trade Center if you're looking at it. They have grab and go small and larger bentos if you're in a rush that seem more local or Japanese style... such as some bentos have an onigiri and hot dog or feud rice and garlic chicken. Sometimes they have butterfish too. Unfortunately no kim bap. They take credit card and I would recommend calling in your order if you're in a rush or if you come at lunch time. This place can get pretty busy, although they are still pretty fast despite the lines. So, first you order. They have the basics...meat jun, bbq chicken, kalbi, etc but they also have things like garlic chicken, chicken katsu and mochiko chicken. You can choose mini or regular for most options. They have soups too like kook soo and mandoo soup. Then you choose your sides. My personal favorites is the hasu (lotus root), choi sum, fish cake, tofu and the chop chae. I like that their sides aren't doused in sesame oil. They have a daily special plate where they discount one of their regular plates. For example, on Monday, you can get a regular meat jun plate for $9.05 instead of $9.55. They have a lunch special with 1 piece kalbi, 1 piece chicken, 1 shrimp, 2 piece mandoo, 1 side, 2 scoop rice for $8.95 from 11am-1pm. One of my favorites is the box lunch with BBQ beef, meat jun, BBQ chicken, 1 mandoo and fried noodles with 4 sides and rice. Another favorite is their chicken katsu. Their chicken katsu is crispy and not fatty at all. They aren't open too late since this place caters more towards the businesses around the area. Hawaiian Airlines told me I'd get breakfast on my flight, except it was pretty much a lie. "Breakfast" is not a few pieces of cut up fruit with cheese and crackers. WTF. Fast forward 4-5 hours. My parents and I are RAVENOUS, and desperately so. I search on Yelp, and end up here which thankfully ended up being extremely close to the car rental place. I ordered the BBQ Chicken and my mother ordered the special which was basically a sampler of all of the "meats" (kalbi, chicken, mandoo/gyoza, meat jun). We got the regular plates which came with 4 sides each. All of my sides were pretty bland but to be fair, I picked bland ones (mac salad, bean sprouts, broccoli, etc.). The meat, however, was DELICIOUS. Despite the gargantuan amount of food on my plate, I'm fairly positive I scarfed it all down in 10 minutes. It was delicious and I was starving. Simple as that. Needed a bite to eat after we landed and picked-up our luggage. My wife and I weren't sure what to eat, but I'ver been to several places near the airport and have had great success so far, so we headed-out and found Family BBQ. Pulled into the parking lot and it said they'll validate, so proceeded to find a parking spot right up front. It was around 1pm or so, but it was still pretty busy from the lunch crowd. There were 3 tables inside and a few more outside. I decided to get the Garlic Chicken, which came with 4 sides (Green Beans, Bean Sprouts, Kim Chee and Mac Salad), along with the 2 scoops of steamed rice. When they called my order, I could smell the garlic as i opened my to-go box. I was literally in heaven for a brief moment as I gazed at my generous plate of food. The Garlic Chicken was very good. The meat was moist, but crunchy on the outside and the flavor was spot-on. The friendly ladies at the counter kept asking if everything was OK or if they could get us anything. They seemed to check on each customer that was there. We must have come at a good time, since customers kept coming, after we sat-down to enjoy our food.
