This incident occurred today, 3/18/16 at 10:45am. My husband called to make an appointment for both of us for tomorrow and the gentleman the picked up the phone rushed through the conversation, they took his phone number and kept saying "1 pm for couple. Thank you". My husband wanted to ask questions and make sure everything was set, but the man kept repeating the above statement, and after saying it 3 times, hung up on him. Feeling uneasy and a little pissed off, My husband called to let me know what happened and He let me know that he wasn't confident about the whole thing, so I then called them to confirm our appointment. When I called I let them know the situation and wanted to follow up and confirm our appointments, the man kept saying "1pm-ok, thank you" . None of my questions were answered because I hadn't given him our names or phone numbers, so how could you know who I am? Anyways, he started speaking Chinese in an angry tone and passed the phone on to someone else. The next gentleman said that we can't schedule appointments and to just walk in. Why would you say "couple at 1pm-thank you"?! If there wasn't anything scheduled? These guys are clearly don't care about customer service...and for me, that's a big deal breaker. I want to believe all the good things here on Yelp, and trust me I'm not snotty or snooty, but I'm big on customer service. Regardless of language barrier, please have someone who can understand and communicate well with customers. I've worked in customer service since I was 15...and I know customer service. Based off my phone call alone and the experience of my husband...they get 1 star. Wish I could give less. I will be taking my business elsewhere. read more

I love this place and make a point to go every week. A good massage will leave you feeling a bit light headed. I feel this way every time I go. Finding a massage place that is excellent every single time you visit is difficult. So I was very happy to find family spa. I never have to say "more on the shoulders" or anything like that. They are very good at finding your tension points. When I first started going I was bothered by the talking. ..but now I am a regular they know I like silence and they are happy to provide a quiet environment. I was a bit iffy on getting a massage here. After all it is on Sonoma Boulevard in the heart of Vallejo. I first entered and the guy at the reception was very friendly. He then took me into a room and told me they would be right with me. Five minutes later Linda came in. I have to say she gives the best massage ever. I've been to plenty of massage parlors but never have I've gotten a massage like the one I had yesterday. Best massage in the world ask for Linda when you go in. Fantastic massages as always with Paul and linda. The first part of the foot massage was done by the guy that works the desk. Don't use him if you are sensitive to smell. He ran out and smoked and came in smelling like a pack of cigarettes. He also cintinued to cough abd i felt spit drop on my feet and legs. Eeew and horrifying . Paul and Linda completely made up for this during the full body massage. Next time I am skipping the foot massage and doing just the hour table massage with Paul or linda. don't waste your time or money here. the place wreaked of cigarettes, a group of male staff members laughed and talked the whole massage outside the room. There's no ceiling separating the rooms so you can hear everyone's convo throughout the massage. As they began massaging ,it became painful for me and my fiancé. They were aggressively rubbing parts of the spine and lower back, digging their elbows in our backs. We then asked how long they have been masseuses and she said 3 years... then minutes later she said she's only been doing it for 2 years.. which made me skeptical of if they were even licensed. I've been sore ever since and that was a week ago. Their massage techniques were HORRIBLE. A real massage therapist aren't supposed to touch their clients spine- instead they were all over our spines.. they also were SO inconsistent -they'd spend 5 minutes on one side our backs,then 30 seconds on the other side.. Then during the WHOLE massage, both of the "masseuses" had full blown conversations in another language while laughing and giggling. Made me feel like they were talking about us..like how rude.. not to mention, no one wants to hear voices while trying to relax.. They also spent 50 minutes on massaging our backsides and 5 minutes massaging the front.. clearly they don't know what a full body massage is. Last,when we go pay with our debit cards, the guy tells us it's $3 per person to use a debit card. So instead of paying $80, we paid $86. SCAMMERS. Then had the nerve to ask for a tip. Never. I am so happy I found this place. Kevin is awesome!! I haven't been able to move my kneck in years. After 1 session with him I could. I go back every week now. And don't get me started on the foot massages he does. I feel like I'm walking on air. Where else can you go and get a real deep massage and foot reflexology for 2 hours for $60!! I am not sure if my experience is the odd man out. I tried to 80 min for $40 which seemed great. I was aware of other reviews in regards to talking so I was prepared for that. The 40 min foot massage was really nice and relaxing. They give you a cup of tea. Then you move onto the 40 min body massage (fully clothed thankfully). The guy in the front did this. I think he is the owner of manager. This is not a massage. Its pressing down and hard with his weight aggressively on your body parts/pressure points like what a chiropractor would do but harder in places that should not be pressed down. No massage like movements. They do not ask you what type of pressure you would like. Secondly, they were teaching someone on the side without asking me first. So I had two men speaking back and forth watching me and a lady that came in periodically and then told him to come here (I understand a bit of their language). The pressing and prodding and talking was not even one bit relaxing. I should have listened to the review that said it made him feel worse because I laid down that night at home and had back spasms twice. I have learned my lesson and will go to my regular professional massage therapist and be happy to spend a little bit more money. If you do come here to try it out, ask for a female, perhaps she will not have the strength of a man and you will not experience what I did. read more

This is when I wish Yelp offered a zero-star option... To ultimately sum up my experience at Family Spa, I felt like I was a thick cut of meat that my angry, Italian grandmother was tenderizing with her hands. From the way that she Indian burn-rubbed my back to "massaging" my head so hard she was ripping my hair out, it was Hell in a massage room. My girlfriend and I only stumbled upon this place because the other place we wanted to go to went from "come on in" on a phone call to "you need an appointment-we're booked" within 10 minutes... When we walked in, the guy in front asked us if we wanted a room together or separate. After reading the reviews about talking and then experiencing it for ourselves, we should have gotten separate rooms. I'd say a quarter to a third of our massage hour was listening to our 2 massage therapists talking and laughing. Yes, I said laughing. I don't understand why talking even happens unless it is to ask the customer how they feel or directing them to a certain position. We should have just asked them to stop and walked out. Unfortunately, we stayed the entire time and WASTED our money. More on the massage... I didn't want to say anything during the massage because I thought my girl (who is a massage therapist) was enjoying hers, but this really was the worst massage I've ever had. Even my friends who have given me a back rub did better than the woman I had... I finally had to move my body to get her to stop certain techniques. First, she moved my arms to hang over the sides of the table. Never, with any other massage I've had, did the therapist let my arms dangle during the entire massage - only if they worked on my arms. After some time, my arms were starting to go numb so I moved them back to the table palms up (as they should have been the entire time). She actually moved my arms back to the sides of the table! She found my knots and worked (too) hard on them. Again, my angry Italian grandmother was tenderizing the knots in my back... One thing that I have both learned through Physical Therapy classes and have experienced with my other massages is that a therapist NEVER touches your actual spine. They will get close to it because of the muscle, but never actually touch your spine. I don't know where the therapist I had got certified (or if she even is), but my spine was her happy place. She was using her forearms to rub my back - which was fine. However, her elbow dug into my spine multiple times!! A couple of times she focused on my spine with her hands. What in the actual you-know-what was she thinking?! When she had me lay on my back, she did minimal work before the hour was up. Literally, when the hour was up, she and my girl's massage therapist just got up, said they were done, and walked out. Mid-massage, they were done. At least make an effort to finish what you're working on or make it actually seem like you're done... Oh, and when she moved the sheet to massage my legs, that's when the laughing began. Decided to get a spur of the moment massage after work on a Friday, my back had been killing me for about a week. I saw this place on yelp and decided to try it out. I got a neck and back massage from "puo" (I am HORRIBLE with names, I'm 99% sure I'm spelling it wrong, I'm sounding it out...so sorry!!!!) nevertheless, he is the son of the main guy who sits in the front answering phones and setting appointments. Best massage I have ever had! He got every nook and cranny I had in my neck and back with the perfect amount of pressure. I wish I would've booked for a longer session. I feel like the men in here have little to no experience with massaging. I came here today and a man was in charge of giving me a massage. I literally felt like he was rubbing me for a straight hour, with no effort. When the time came to flip over and have a head to neck rub, he scratched my head for about 15 mins. I was really confused. And finally, when it came to remove the lotion off me, he let the hot towel go cold and removed the lotion with the cold towel. I still feel the reminder of the lotion all over me as I type this. Overall, would only go back if I had a woman masseuse. I just had a $40, 80-minute deep tissue massage, and I feel incredible! No need to request extra pressure here, folks - I don't think it's humanly possible, and, even if it was, you wouldn't be able to take it. This massage is hard core, so if you want one o' those pansy Swedish dealios where they greeze you up and play patty-cake on your tush, this ain't your spot, Liz'beth. I was going to make my masseuse stop a few times due to discomfort from the excessive pressure (well, PAIN - OK, THERE, I said it!) , but I pulled it together and dug deep. (There'll be no stoppages on MY watch!) I'm glad I did, too. I could barely turn my head to look over either shoulder when I arrived (thanks to 20+ f****n years at a f****n desk job), but, after this Muy Thai massage (lots of flying elbows and knees), there's a lot less pain and much greater range of motion. And this was my maiden voyage. I can't wait to see how I feel after my 10th session. The interior of the salon far-exceeded my expectations. I've been to a couple of these places on the peninsula, and this one looks and feels (and smells) much better. Oh, riiiiight! The owner and staff have heavy accents. But this IS America, folks, land of the immigrant, home of the 98%-ers, so get off it already. They're very nice and accommodating, and they understand and speak English well. 'hood'-schmood! Most of Vallejo is in "the' hood," who cares? I embrace the culture! Lock my car up and BASK in it, even! Plus, you're not coming to make friends on Sonoma Blvd and buy a sac, right? (You're not cool enough anyway - they wouldn't have ya.) Look at it this way, you can perform one-stop shopping at this strip mall: buy a comfy, stretchy outfit at the discount clothing store for $10, get a sick massage for $20, grab a bottle o' screw-off cap vino from the licka sto' for $6, and hit up Max's of Manila for a Fil-Am favorite to go for $7-8! Yelped the closes place to get a massage NOW since my parents decided to take the kids for a little while longer, which is rare. Family Spa was available for both my husband & I, on a moment's notice. A young man greeted us upon entry & knew we were the couple that called 10 minutes ago. Place was ambient, with dimmed lights, & had a calming fragrant. You wouldn't have guessed it was located in a busy shopping center. As my husband & I were ready, a man & women walked in, they didnt introduce themselves nor did they ask what area needed most attention. That didnt bother me none, because I wasnt going to be talking & because they found the much needed areas themselves. He found the little kinks in the middle of my back & slowly worked them outward. The leg & foot massage was spectacular, but the best part for me was the head rub. My husband decided to "mow the lawn" (snorring) in the middle of his massage with the lady. Self explanatory. He woke up to turn over for his neck & head massage, & she got the crook out of his ever complaining pain in his neck. Price was great. Definitely will be coming back for more & more. read more
