Sometimes I feel like I take Famous Dave's for granted because it is a chain but I'm reminded why I keep coming back every time I have a bite of the Wilbur beans and those delicious rib tips with the devils spit. I might not be a BBQ pro but I can tell when meat is cooked the proper way. The Wilbur beans have chunks of pork in them and are perfectly smoky and sweet. The takeout area can get swamped so I actually prefer eating there because it's much faster. I usually get the appetizer sampler with a side of fries or else the garbage plate to share. It's always way too much food but the leftovers taste just as good. I have been to this Roseville location over 20 times. I have to say that this has to be one of the WORST locations because: the food is never up to par like the Uptown location oe Cottage Grove. Today I ordered a full rack of ribs, order of buffalo wings, order of catfish with corn macaroni and cheese, fries and chili. The ribs are never tender here they're all dried out and overcooked. I'm not sure if they've been sitting all day or if the cook just simply can't tell when they're done. The catfish was great I must say. Even though I was missing the sweet & spicy dipping sauce. 6 of the 12 buffalo wings were overcooked as well. I mean to the point where they were crispy and not edible. How the fuck does the cook even put those out? It seems like it doesn't really matter if you complain. They will refund your money. I just wish that they would get their staff to get their s*** together and cook the food properly. I don't know how you can mess up corn on the cob. But their corn on the cob is absolutely disgusting. That's one thing that Famous Daves is known for (great corn) I will say the Wilbur beans were good. So were the fries. I'm very disappointed in their choices of BBQ sauce as they only have two when they used to have like five. Friendly staff and attentive managers. But horrible food overall. Not worth the price. A nice surprise. I have eaten at a lot of Famous Dave's restaurants around the country. I like their sauces, and the food is usually pretty consistently good. As with all large BBQ Chains, it's a crap shoot if the food will be good, bad, or the occasional outstanding. This Dave's location knocked it out of the park today. First, I have never been in a Dave's location like this. It is set up like some of my favorite small Q' joints. Lots of tables with red checked tablecloths spread throughout the place. They take your order at a counter as you come in, the menu is on big wall board. The staff was friendly and fast, and it was nice to place my order, get my drink and find a seat. I sometimes don't like dealing with waitresses, and if the Famous Daves by my house in California was like this restaurant I would eat there more often. As far as the food was concerned they were outstanding. Everything was freshly cooked, hot and tasty. Probably the best burnt ends that I have had in a long time, and definitely the best I have ever had at famous dave's. The manager of the franchise came by my table and we had a nice chat about BBQ. Worst BBQ in the cities unless you like fake BBQ. I ate here once and laughed at the supposed BBQ they were serving. NONE of the food is smoked in-house. They have one place they smoke their BBQ and then send it out to all of their restaurants to RE-HEAT. I just judged the KCBS Sam's Club BBQ National Championship Regional Contest last weekend in Woodbury. Famous Dave's was entered and "Famous" Dave was there cooking. I went here thinking that I would surely blow my diet and calorie counting. I took it as a sign that there was a sign on the counter offering 600 calorie dinners. I usually obey signs. I ordered the 600 calorie pork tenderloins and had them throw in a couple of "naked ribs." Everything was very, very good. The pork was grilled perfectly and was moist. The ribs were equally as good and were falling off the bone. The super nice touch was the grilled pineapple (About a third of an entire pineapple). Oh yea, and some broccoli. This Famous Daves is pretty good; however, it's still one of the few left that you need to walk up, order, take a pig number, fill your own drink and then sit down and wait for your food. Most of the others in the metro have been remodeled to be completely wait service with full bars. That being said, I still enjoy this Famous Dave's. I think some of it might because it is still very much the "original" layout, not that I do not appreciate the ease of the newer styles. The food is always fast and tasty - the brisket is wonderful. The BBQ is pretty good and they have tons of sauces to try. I prefer the Sweet and Sassy, which is also available at Rainbow. I really liked the pulled pork and jalapeño Mac and cheese. The ribs were thick and tender but a tad dry. Same with the beef brisket. It's decent food but for the money, I'd go to Rudolph's, Dixie's or Big Daddy's. We were here to celebrate my Mom's birthday. it was a great place for a crowd, our service was quick (once the family could decide on what we wanted) and the food was good, even my kids and nephews like it. My two favorite things on the menu are brisket and the chicken wings. Both are fantastic; we also had some ribs (delicious), pulled pork and chicken. Keep in mind that if you're in Roseville, MN, you're not in the South. Don't come on here and start talking about how it's not "real barbecue", it's all you're going to get. The combo platters are okay, but really the only thing you should get here is ribs. Maybe some brisket. The ribs are pretty good, the sauces are decent. I found the sides to be kind of gross. The cornbread muffin is good, the corn is mush on a cob. Mashed potatoes were just okay, and the mac and cheese was oddly gritty. Service was good, expect to drop like 15 bucks when you come here. Then when I called to try to talk to someone about correcting it, they hung up on me. We were on vacation for the 4th of July weekend when we visited Famous Dave's. This is the 2nd time I've been there since we don't have one in Sacramento. The best part about this place is THE SAUCE. If you're a saucy person you will LOVE this place :) They have tons of different sauces but my personal fav is "Devil's Spit". If you like spicy this is the sauce for you! It goes great on anything.. fries, sandwiches, ribs, chicken etc. I had the 1/2 order of BBQ Ribs (6 bones). It comes with two sides and a slice of yummy cornbread. The reason this review only got 4 stars out of 5 is bc of the meat. It was a good amount, but a tad bit dry. STILL DELICIOUS. I had some devil's spit on the side and dipped each rib into the sauce. My sides were fries and mac & cheese. Both were spot on! With some sweet tea to quench my thirst...I left with a fully belly! If you're feeling adventurous try their bread pudding. Comes with a large scoop of vanilla ice cream and could feed the entire family (4-5 ppl). I only had just a few bites because I was too full, but my dad devoured it! 4/5. read more

NO MORE CORN MUFFINS. You read that right. This place has been slowly but surely falling down the BBQ ladder one rung at a time, but they just took a nosedive. Instead of the meal-saving corn muffins that used to be a staple, they're now serving a square of cornbread. Smaller. No muffin top. Grrrr! Corn on the cob. Mushy. Plain. Didn't these used to come with at least a little salt? Or -something-? Fries. A handful. There used to be so many more. The ribs were good, and that's why I gave 2 stars instead of one. Carry out dinner for two without drinks was over $41.00. WHAT?! I remember when the 6 rib dinner was $12.99. The fries were abundant, the corn wasn't tasteless mush, and there were corn muffins. I find it interesting how I just heard someone say that it's better to go to management with your complaints rather than write a bad review online. Well ... I asked to speak with a manager regarding my complaint and was basically given an "I don't really care" attitude and "that's too bad for you that you had to wait." I placed an online takeout order on Father's Day at 3:17PM. My scheduled pick-up time was 4:03PM. I arrived a little before 4PM and had to wait 10 minutes in the small takeout vestibule before even getting to the counter. Once I did, I was told that my order would be another 25-30 minutes. There was absolutely ZERO indication online that there was a severe delay in the pick-up order times. The manager tells me that Father's Day is their busiest day of the year. If you already know that, then good business operations should suggest you account for that ahead of time. As I was waiting I saw several people come and go. Of those people, several returned because their orders were either incorrect or they were missing not one, but multiple items. When my order was FINALLY ready I asked the manager what she was going to do, i.e., a credit, a discount, something for the severe delay in my scheduled pick-up time. I was offered free cornbread muffins. Free cornbread does not replace the 30 minutes of wasted time I could not get back. In addition, since I ordered and paid online I was generous enough to include a tip, which in this case was totally NOT deserved. When I contacted Famous Dave's online to submit my complaint I received a reply email that simply said, "please accept our apologies and we hope you visit us again soon." Really?!?! I will never return to Famous Dave's and I have told my friends and family about this experience and not to visit this establishment. Now I am telling all of you good people. Sad to say, but Famous Daves is starting to lose sight of who they are. In this location, only 2 of their sauces are available on the table. My side of beans had only five beans in it, and a ton of sauce and at least two different meats. The food is now served on mod style plates, instead of the classic baskets. I was having friends over and we all ordered Prime Now...only 3 of them wanted Famous Daves..but they all wanted a corn muffin. I'm not expecting real BBQ when I head to Famous Dave's. I'm under no illusion that the pit master is back there slaving over the low and slow cooked meat with special love and attention. What I am expecting is that they could figure out how to cook and present a burger properly. The new thing here is the Brisket Hamburgers. All the advertising and reviews I've seen led me to Famous Dave's to see what all the fuss is about. Here's what the fuss is about: a $13 burger that was so overcooked that I felt bad for the cow. I'd be surprised if it was a 1/3 lb burger. It looked more like a 1/4 lb and after being cooked it was probably closer to 1/8 lb. The bun was cold and stale. The toppings were so sparse and measly I couldn't believe it. I should have just sent it back but my wife doesn't like a "scene". I don't remember the last time I paid $13 for a burger. I was so utterly disappointed. This particular FD is still the walk up counter service, which I like. I've been to Famous Dave's before and the food was OK. The chopped pork sandwich is pretty good. The ribs are OK. But this time was such a travesty that I hope Dave is ashamed of what he's let his chain become. read more

I was wanting to go to a different BBQ place, but it is closed on Mon-Tues. I decided to try out Famous Dave's again. The last time I had ribs at Famous Dave's they were not tender enough. The small cob of corn has always been a disaster. Even when it is Fresh Corn Season here in MN. I looked over the menu online from home. I decided mostly what I wanted. Drove to the Roseville location. Went to the counter and placed my order. St Louis Ribs n Meat. Second meat was the Hot Link. Sides were Mac n Cheese and Firecracker Green Beans. Got my beverage cup and filled it. Sat at a table and logged into the guest Wi-Fi. Opened the PP and who is on the front page? None other than Dave Anderson the founder. While my meal is being prepared, I was reading about how Dave was asked to come back after being fired 2 years ago. The Mac N Cheese was the first thing I tried. I could really taste the Jalapeno's, It was cheesy enough, but seemed to be a little bland to me. Then tried the Firecracker Green Beans. Not sure why they are called Firecracker, since I could not taste any spiciness to these. Buttered with bacon bits. Were good, but not worthy of being called Firecracker. Next was the Hot Link. That was very good. Nice large, spicy sausage link. Tried the bread. Not sure what they are trying to accomplish with this. It was stale bread and lightly buttered on 1 side. If it was toasted, I could not tell. Now for the star of the meal, the ribs. Tried a rib. They did this right this time for tenderness. Very nice and tender. Sauced a bit but not overly saucy like in previous days. Tried the Cornbread muffin. That was adequate. Now that I have tried every thing, I went to complete my meal. The meats were very good. Especially the sausage. All items had one thing in common. They were not very hot for being just prepared. I realize everything must be already cooked and warmed up for serving. I think they missed the warm up part today. My total came to $18.20. A fair price for what I got. The staff was pleasant and served in 15 minutes. I liked the Blues back ground music. If they want me back, they will need to learn how to get my meal a bit hotter. If I had taken it to go it would have been a huge disappointment being so luke warm. read more

My husband and I went for lunch today and was very impressed with Famous Dave's on Snelling. It has been 6 months since we last ate there and it wasn't memorable. They have changed to serving the food on plates instead of baskets which I really like. The music is a more current picks of country music. The food was amazingly fresh. I had the roasted chicken and it was very moist and served hot. Several staff checked on us to see how things were. This time my chicken sandwich was not that great tasting as it used to be and did not seem to be made the same as it was before. My companion had roasted chicken and told me it seemed like the chicken had been kept warm in water and then some sauce put on it before bringing to the table to make it look better. I tried a little of it and I was not impressed. Yes, the food was brought to the table within about 5 minutes, so it had to all have been made some time before we came.
