This is an overdue review - my sister and I stopped at this Famous Dave's a few months ago. I have some health issues and the general manager, John Gallup, was kind, professional, and understanding. He's what all GMs should be! We ordered a chopped pork sandwich and it was DELICIOUS. From now on, we'll stop at this Famous Dave's every time we go to Palm Springs or Idyllwild. It's located in the busy Citrus Plaza shopping center. So I parked a few aisles further away, and had an easy in and out parking experience. As you can see from my pics, there are 2 front entrances (facing Lugonia) the main entrance, and the ToGo or take-away entrance. In today's world of ToGo, this is very convenient and this section has its own cash registers. You can get a sense of the interior from my bar pic. For lunch I had the Chopped Pork Platter which comes with 2 sides (I selected garlic mashed red potatoes and Cole slaw). This was served as an open faced sandwich. The pork is roughly chopped which had a mild smoke flavor, very tender and appropriately rich and succulent. It automatically comes with their Rich and Sassy BBQ sauce. This sauce was rich and savory - it was pretty good. The Devil's Spit was very tangy but not too hot. The Sweet & Zesty was also just as tangy but also very sweet. I did a bit of mixing of the sauces. While the pork was good by itself, I liked how the BBQ sauce enhanced its flavor. The side Cole slaw had a mayo based dressing. The cabbage was cool and crisp, which complimented the rich and tangy BBQ sauce. The garlic mashed potatoes were a bit mild for my garlic taste. The corn bread was pretty good. I liked that this made from a course meal and that the top had a slightly sweet glazing. This was far better than I remembered when I visited many, many years ago. read more

I usually only order take out ribs from this place (once in a while due to the high $$$), but decided to give other menu options a try. BIG MISTAKE. I ordered the 3 meat combo with rib tips, brisket, and chopped pork. Sides were mac n cheese, potato salad, and corn bread. I was EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED in the taste and quality of the meats. I basically paid for fat and gristle (brisket) and dry, salty, overcooked ribs and chopped pork that was drenched in BBQ sauce. It was so bad that I had to stop eating it. The best thing about my meal was the potato salad and corn bread (cake, really). Even the Mac n cheese was past its prime. I paid a good amount of money for this mess, and if I had been sitting in the restaurant, I would have sent the plate back to the kitchen. I probably won't return to Famous Dave's because of this experience. Just not worth it. read more

We are in the area for a wedding tomorrow and stopped here for dinner last night. This was my 1st time but my husband has been to the one in Long Beach before. We have their store bought bbq sauce at home which is delish. We were not disappointed at all! We didn't realize they closed shortly after we after we ordered but nevertheless we received great service and delicious food. We never felt rushed at all and our waitress was super nice and the whole staff there are friendly. The establishment is decorated country theme which is fitting. The place is clean and family friendly too. There is a bar area but we didn't go there, it looked closed but probably was since we arrived 20 min before closing. My husband and i shared a 3 meat plate which came with 2 sides. We had brisket, pulled pork and rib tips. Sides were mac and cheese and corn bread. Everything was good and they served quite a bit of food, we had leftovers to take back. For good bbq come try this place!! read more

The food is good, but the bar area is not hot! We could only have two drinks an hour. I ordered a drink once I sat at the bar and ordered another drink when I ordered my food. By the time the food arrived, I wanted another and was told to wait. The bartender tried to reprimand me telling me I already had two drinks. The bar was left unattended for periods of time. It was a while before we were able to settle. I couldn't be served for another drink, but I couldn't close my tab either. read more

Very familiar with Famous Dave's restaurants from back east. This was my first time going to one in SoCal. Food was what I expected, great! But the service was fantastic. I tried to order online which wasn't good and the manager helped confirmed the order wasn't placed and redid it. I was able to hear him take calls on the phone and he was just as courteous. read more

Came in with a party of 11 just 20 minutes before closing, and instead of rushing us out, the staff gave us outstanding service from start to finish. Everyone was welcoming, patient, and on point. The food was unreal the meat literally slid off the bone on the ribs, perfectly cooked and packed with flavor. Everything came out hot, fresh, and better than expected, especially that close to closing time. Huge respect to the team for treating us like priority guests and not an inconvenience. When we walked in there was Noone at the podium. So we went into the bar area as we always do. No bartender. Waited 5 mins or so still no bartender. So I went to find someone. Came upon the manager. I asked where his bartender was and that we've be waiting for about 10 mins. His comment to me was " I really need to put a sign that says please wait to be seated and we can only sit at the bar if we were going into the bar". Mind you there was only 1 booth being occupied in the bar at the time. So we waited another 5 mins with still noone coming to help us. So we left.
