Have been going about once a month now for some time. Be warned you shouldn't eat this great food on a regular basses as it will most likely give you a heart attack over time. But if you want to take the family out for a treat this is a great choice. I have never had a bad meal and service is mostly excellent. I've always had good service here. The food is decent BBQ in the PNW. Good bang for your buck. They do specials on specific days of the week so ask about that ( I wanna say it varies by location?) We stopped in for dinner around 730pm today, it was fairly busy. Marlee our server was so friendly and really made the evening great. Our food came out quickly and accurate. Everything tasted really good! One concerning thing however was while I was taking my daughter to the bathroom the hostess was in there as well and after she came out of the stall, did not wash her hands and proceeded directly back to the host station in front. while I know she wasn't directly handling my food I still think she should have washed her hands. read more

If it took me this long I do not think it was a raging success... The chicken wings were at best equivalent to a very small order from Safeway. The 'Devil's Spit' BBQ sauce tasted like mediocre creation from McDonalds. But what got my goat, other than extremely average and rather expensive food offerings was Crappy Service! I may be spoiled by Arby's or Thirsty Lion, but if I was the manger I would have fired the entire staff. Blame iot on COVID if you must, but they all sucked! We came on a busy Father's Day. This one does not take reservations on Open Table unlike the Portland one. Arrived with eight people and was seated in 15 minutes, ordered food in 10 minutes. Had three kids meals, and the huge All American BBQ Feast, $84.99 with a whole chicken, full rack of ribs, and a 1/2 lb of beef brisket. Four corn muffins, steak fries, a bowl of BBQ beans and a bowl of amazing cole slaw! Jennifer, the waitress, was amazing! Kept our sweet tea glasses full and chips refilled! Loved the special pineapple BBQ sauce! Love all the variety of sauces, the labels were worn off so it was hard to know what each was. After 45 min the meals came out, which was a super long wait for food...at least everything's piping hot and super flavorful! The chicken was well cooked and so flavorful. It was a 2.5 lb chicken, very, very small. The rack of St. Louis ribs were tasty and fall off the bone! The best thing on the plate was the beef brisket, tender and so flavorful. Again, just a half pound for 5 adults just gave everyone one and a half slices. Sad the meal is advertised at 4-6 and so we had to fight over the four corn muffins, seems like a cheap side, so surprised only 4. After I told the waitress it was my parents 62nd Anniversary, she gave them a small sundae at the end, that was a sweet gesture. So I did not have bad service from this famous Dave's location.In fact they were very friendly. The ribs are amazing. The sides could be a little bigger. But my 2 star review is seriously.Because I come home after paying $18 for burnt ends.And I literally got about ten bites. Shockingly good for a franchise. My husband raves about them when a pharma rep brought Dave's to the hospital for the docs. A staple for us when we are hungry for some 'Que. I was feeling especially eager to have smoked chicken however that wasn't a choice. The wife had the grilled chopped chicken salad and thought the taste was spot on, tender and not died out. It came with a corn muffin that want her favorite. Our son opted for the manhandler beef sandwich. While he wouldn't have objected to a larger sandwich than he got, the beef was good. It was tender, flavourful and tasty. (He says it's more of a "regular" size sandwich from his perspective). Since they didn't offer a smoked chicken dinner, I went for the smoked ribeye steak. (Only offered Friday, Saturday and Sunday). The steak was cooked perfectly to my medium rare request. The flavor was spot on however i was surprised at how tough it was too cut through and there was a lot of fat and gristle I had to cut away. I was happy with the corn muffin and the Wilbur beans in the side. After the house chips and the order of fries as an appetizer, I was too full for the side salad, although it looked good. Their French fries are terrific, served hot, fresh and that perfect combination of crisp on the outside and tender in the middle. We were seated right away. Our server was friendly however we were wanting for drink refills a couple of times. My St Louis Ribs where tough with almost no smoke flavor, the Mac-n-cheese was ok, I think it has some jalapeño chopped up in it (?)... not what was in the mood for, and the collard greens had a chalky texture. My daughter had the Georgia chopped pork (their version of pulled pork), again no real smoke, it was dry and no bits of bark like the pulled pork we have actually had in Georgia. If I could leave 2.5 stars that's a more accurate rate I'd leave. Visited for the first time a few days ago and we stopped in for dinner. I found the building placement very odd where you park in the back and find your way to the front door. Kind of dark and not busy at all. Stopped in the girls room before going to our table and all I can say is this first impression was horrible. There is some very obvious bad plumbing and there is a gagging moldy sewer pipe smell that screams problems there underground. Our waitress was pleasant and friendly. We ordered salads trying to be somewhat healthy. These salads are far from healthy and the cornbread is so syrupy sweet and oily you can wring it out. I ordered the chicken for the protein on my salad and it was definitely bbq'd very charred, leathery and dry. This is why I generally try to avoid chain restaurants. I've been coming here since it opened at least ten years ago. My first time at Famous Dave's was actually in Arizona, and it was amazing. So, when this arrived in Tualatin, I was extremely excited. Unfortunately, it seems that it took some time to copy the formulas from Phoenix because the first few batches were not very good. Eventually, they got it right, and I now come here periodically to get my BBQ fix. Customer service has always been pretty good regardless of the food quality. I've dined in and ordered to-go many times. Ambience and decor are consistent with the one in Phoenix. I always feel comfortable, whether in the main dining area or in the bar area. Parking definitely can be a challenge during peak hours, so plan accordingly. read more

Not impressed with our dinner tonight. We have eaten here many times, never to go, always dine in. This was an order for pick-up, we called in on our way over. 15 minutes and that was accurate. Issues come with portion sizes and the order was wrong. We should have checked the order before we left but unfortunately we did not. We ordered an entire slab of ribs, which comes with 2 sides, we asked for double fries, you can see from the picture how little fries we got. We also ordered boneless wings with BBQ, both sides of ranch and buffalo. We received bones with honey mustard (maybe) it honestly tasted like sweet salad dressing. We received a blue cheese, not 2 ranch. The portions size on the wings was half of what we were expecting. Then we asked for BBQ sauce to go and were met with snide remarks on how they already put sauce on the ribs. We then even offered to buy some and were denied and the lady helping us said she needed to "save them for the rest of the night". If we were dinning in we have endless BBQ sauce and while we did not ask for free bottles or endless sauce it is certainly not our problem that you need to ration for the rest of the night, nor is that good service. It quite honestly is terrible service and not something that needs to be shared. Very disappointing $64 meal. Came with my family of 4. We were starving! We got the biggest family platter and it seemed like the food never ended! It had everything from brisket to chicken to ribs. Ordered sausage as extra and the onion strings. Our waiter was super friendly and awesome. He was always there when we needed him. Our food overall was delicious! My favorite were the ribs, sausage, and onion strings. Something about thinly sliced onions fried in batter! Mmmm. Ribs were surprisingly flavorful, tender, and juicy. I'm usually not a fan of ribs but this caught my eye.... well my taste buds I should say. Since I am originally from the Midwest, the difference between Famous Dave's and the actual southern cuisine they market themselves as is obvious. While their cornbread, chicken, and pulled pork sandwiches are decent, they're far from great. Their food isn't amazing, it's not horrible, they're simply forgettable, so they blend in with all other southern food imitators. If you're desperate for barbecue, they'll do in a pinch, but otherwise there are better options. read more

I live very close to Dave's, so I've gone there on occasion since they opened the place. I'm also a pretty serious BBQ'er myself, so I'm pretty picky. I've always liked the food at Dave's. My favorites have been their ribs, the rib tips, sausage, and chicken, and I love that they have pineapple and homemade coleslaw as delicious and relatively healthy sides. For lunch some of their sandwiches are really good as well. When I've eaten in the restaurant, it's always been a good experience, with attentive and friendly waiters and good service. Their takeout process is a different matter though. I've been frustrated many times by that, and so sadly when covid-started I kind of crossed Dave's off my list because of their historically bad takeout process. Anyhow, I'm glad to see Dave's still there, and looking forward to dining there again when things get back to "normal". They seem to have gotten quite a few negative reviews lately, so I wanted to show them a little love and let people know that I think it's a good, solid place, even for us picky BBQ people. read more

We've used Famous Dave's for our company picnic for more than 10 years. Our employees love their tasty BBQ, which beat other more expensive BBQ joints in an office taste test! Famous Dave's always shows up on time and our order is always right. This week they reminded us why they're #1. Our picnic BBQ was scheduled for delivery at 5:00PM on Wednesday. Around 1:00, Janet called from Famous Dave's Catering: sadly, there had been a shooting in their neighborhood and the restaurant was on lockdown. No one could leave. I quietly panicked, wondering how I was going to feed 70 people on short notice. Not to worry! Janet called their other store, which is 30 miles in the opposite direction, and they were able to fill our complete order and deliver it on time in rush-hour traffic. Mmmm.....comfort food :) Beef brisket and baby back ribs were great. Not excellent fall off the bone, but still very tender. Trust me, you will not need a toothpick here. Definitely better than Podnahs and the Peoples Pig (meat salty it was inedible), both in Portland. The mashed potatoes were flavorless and dry. But after we requested some butter, they were delicious. Butter and salt are miracle workers ! The barbecue chips they automatically give you are the saltiest thing I ever tried. Your kidneys and taste buds will appreciate you for skipping this mess. The big winner here was the corn muffin. I still am thinking about it! The other places I mentioned sold us much drier overly sweet muffins. So grainy they stick to your throat yuck. These were amazingly moist and tasty! UPDATE: We came back and had the brisket nachos and they were beyond awful. They were super spicy, there was no cheese but 2 shredded pieces, and there was hardly any brisket. "If I had any doubt before, I am indeed a carnivore." So goes one of our famous family sayings after enjoying a particularly meat-filled feast. We are just a group of pig-lovin' gluttons. So it should come as no surprise that I've been anxiously awaiting the opening of the first Famous Dave's in Oregon. After hearing stories about their delicious food from friends and family who have eaten at their locations in Montana, it seemed like it took them FOREVER to build this place. The sign has been taunting me for ages. I actually started going here in early May, when they were serving their St. Louis ribs out of a smoker in the parking lot before they officially opened. That is lots of anticipation before my first real visit, which was a dud. The food was good, but we had several service issues. Arrrrgh! All of their servers' name tags address them as the "Famous _____." We now refer to our first server as the "Infamous _____." So after contacting and getting a response from management to resolve our issues, we returned for another large family meal. Much better experience. I've eaten most of their BBQ classic entrées and my personal favorites are the St. Louis ribs, Georgia chopped pork, BBQ chicken and hot link sausage w/spicy mustard. I wasn't as impressed by the Texas beef brisket and Buffalo chicken wings, but others at my table enjoyed those entrees too. The sides are almost as important as the pig... almost. You get to choose one with lunch or two with dinner as part of your combination plate. My vote goes to the creamy coleslaw and garlic red-skin mashed potatoes. I won't order the drunkin' apples and green beans at future visits. Every combo meal comes with cornbread, which is outstanding, and corn on the cob. Now, I'm in the minority here, but their corn reminds me of the soggy corn I used to get at KFC as a kid, so I guess I like it for sentimental reasons. The décor is fun and completely different from anything in the area. Large waiting area, and be forewarned there are usually long lines since they recently opened. I preferred going for a weekend lunch rather than midweek dinner, since we avoided the crowds and prices are lower. My experience thus far has been a little mixed, but it is to be expected when a new restaurant opens. Barbecue is serious business. Mighty serious. Any person who doesn't take a moment to consider the right type of place for the occasion just cannot consider themselves a true aficionado of the almighty smoked meats. Me? I am just such a person, one that has trained each and every taste bud, has trained my olfactory senses to sniff for the right essence in the air. Yup, barbecue is more than just food, it is a constant hunt for perfection, it is a way of life it is a microcosm for life itself. Having said that I cannot believe it took me three weeks to get around to trying the new barbecue place in town. It was lunchtime and as a scanned over the piles and piles of procrastination sitting on my desk I decided I needed someplace special for lunch, someplace that I had never been... so that I could Yelp it when I came back and procrastinate some more about work. The list was short in my feeble little mind and at the top was Famous Dave's. As I walked around the building to find the hidden entrance (it faces the main boulevard) I kept thinking in my feeble little mind, "chain,chain,chain,chain... it's not going to be very good... chain, chain, chain..." I opened the big door and was immediate assaulted by a blast of sweet hickory smoke mixed slightly with mesquite. I actually shook my head to clear my senses and when I came back around I was standing in front of the hostess barge and had two young ladies looking very worried at the weird fat guy shaking his head. Skinny young girls cannot know the mysteries of such wondrous aroma. I was seated in the restaurant about in the middle of the place so I could get a good look around. My serve was Famous Kelly who seemed genuinely happy I was her customer and was thrilled that I had not been to a Famous Dave's before. She made some suggestions and left me to contemplate the menu. As I looked around I thought to myself that the place was decorated a little over the top, a little too down-home maybe but it wasn't a full on assault like some places. I decided on a lunch combo of brisket and St Louis style Ribs with the cole slaw. It also included a cobbette of corn and a corn muffin and I was getting worried that this place was a little too corny. (rim shot) Kelly dropped my order and came back with a plate for my "sauce tour". Excuse me? I had noticed the five squirty bottles of dark liquid on my table but had not thought to contemplate them. Kelly dotted the plate with samples of the sauces and I tried every one. You'll have to try them yourself for I am not one to impart my sauce preferences on others, they all had some redeeming value but I decided on combining two different sauces into one puddle of rich,sweet, smoky goodness. The food came out pretty quickly and was served on a mall oval platter with the obligatory checkered paper under the food. Why do chains do this? Now I worry about cutting meat and getting paper in my food. I got past it and continued with the meal assessment. I received two ribs, about seven strips of brisket, a heaping cup of cole slaw and the other stuff. I took a sample of the cole slaw and was instantly transported to picnics as a kid and family parties, it was like Mom's, but with some horseradish and pineapple. OK, that was worth a star right there. The corn muffin was excellent too and needed no added butter or honey at all. The cobbette of corn was, well... corn. How can you screw that up? The brisket was in my opinion cut too thin to get the true smokey flavor of it. It was good, it had flavor, but frankly Buster's does as good or a little better. The ribs however were quite excellent, a true St Louis style cut and smoked to near perfection. Great char, good sauce and a generous cut. All in all I guess a two meat combo and iced tea for $13.68 isn't a bad deal in today's economy. I couldn't afford to eat here a lot for lunch but every now and again as a treat it would be a good choice. I was disappointed that in today's day and age a restaurant would choose not a supply Splenda as a sweetener option, which Famous Dave's famously didn't. However the attentive Kelly did help make this place a four star instead of just three star review. read more

Today was Famous Dave's 2nd day open, so of course I had to try them for lunch. I've never been to one before, so I didn't really know what to expect. We were greeted by a sea of employees wearing Famous Dave's T-shirts. Its seamed as though there were 3:1 ratio for employees to tables. All were very friendly.... Maybe even too friendly for my personality. I'm sure this will settle down once the newness wears off. The manger stopped by our table in the middle of our meal. That's always nice, right? But this guy was a little over the top. Asking about if we had been there before, what our favorite sauce was, ect... I was on my lunch break and was shoveling food in my face. I didn't have time to have a little chit chat with him. FOOD GOOD! TALK BAD! UGG! First thing you notice when you sit down at a booth is "CRAP! Think skinny thoughts!" Even though the tables are free standing, and can be slid around to adjust it to your needs, they don't give you enough room for proper BBQ eating stomach expansion. This of course is coming from a 400 pound dude... Take it for what it's worth. They have 5 different sauces sitting on each table. Devil's Spit (has a little heat, but nothing that will send you off on a frantic search for water), Texas Pitt, Sweet & Zesty, Georgia Mustard, and biggest bottle of them all was Rich and Sassy. Rich and Sassy was by far the best, so its a good thing its in a larger bottle. Food was ok. I ordered the BBQ Chicken combo meal. The flavor was good, but the skin was greasy and fatty. Once I pealed the skin away it was all good. The corn, slaw and cornbread muffin were good as well. The only hiccup was with my GF's meal. She ordered the BBQ Pulled Chicken sandwich, but got pork instead. Not a big deal. We didn't even say anything. I had a bite.
