Stopped by on a weeknight dinner and it wasn't too busy. I love that they have 2 sections for indoor dining, 1 is normal table service, and the other is a more of a pick up, and sit wherever- food court like seating. I got the chopped pork sandwich which was good, pretty flavorful without being salty or dry, with a side of the jalapeno mac & cheese (good flavor, a little zesty from the jalapeno but was slightly dry?). The food was good, but honestly didn't have the smokiness I was really hoping for. By far the worse BBQ I have ever had. The place was a bit of a dump, but that's ok, I wasn't going for the ambiance. The St. Louis style ribs were pretty bad, but edible. I do not like the setup they have. I got there around 4 o'clock today,Sunday, and you have to pick a side ,full waitress service or partial waitress service. On the partial waitress side you still get your food served to you however you get your own drinks and you order and pay at the register including tip,before they serve you for food. This means anytime you want to add something to your order you have to go to the register and pay again then if you want dessert you have to go to the register again. Also if you put no tip, maybe because you like to leave a cash tip, which I usually do. What kind of service do you think you will get when they see you put no tip. Now you might say just pick the full service side ,we'll I tried that first but I was then told that they were going through a sift change and the next waitress wasn't there yet so I should use the other side. This was my first time doing a pickup order from here via DoorDash and they cancelled my order 5 minutes before my chosen time while I was heading there. I called the store and spoke to the nicest employee, possibly the store manager. You receive a smorgasbord of items served on a galvanized garbage can lid. You can select different items to your taste. Be cautious, a feast for two can comfortably feed 4 people. Since the pandemic, things have changed. The decor has been updated and now you walk in and order your food and pay first and then you are seated. Not sure how I feel about that. I guess the only advantage is once you finished eating, you don't have to wait around for the wait staff to bring your bill. I came here on a Wednesday at 11 AM, right when it first opened so there was plenty of availability My coworkers and I all got the three meat lunch combo. I chose the spare ribs, rib tips and brisket. If you choose the ribs, it comes with two ribs. The brisket was incredible, really good flavor and not dry. The rib tips are the ends of the ribs, you're eating the meat around the cartilage. (The waitress explained that the difference between burnt ends and rib tips is beef vs pork) A lot of the rib tip meat was cooked so thoroughly and seasoned, which made it salty and almost a jerky consistency, but the meat around the cartilage was very flavorful and fatty. I think the side of broccoli also came with pickled onions and chopped jalapeños which gave it a spicy kick, but a nice addition The combo also comes with a corn muffin For $15, I was definitely stuffed at the end of my meal and had to take some leftovers home! Dave's famous barbecue has been around forever and I really hope that they can continue and survive after Covid. Dave's used to be this place that was fun and loud and rowdy and pack to capacity. I was very sad to walk into an empty restaurant today. As we walked in we were greeted by their server who explained their new set up. You can either sit on one side of the restaurant and be served by their one and only waitress who is also running the bar or you can go up to a cash register for your meal and take it to go as you said on the other side of the restaurant or you basically do all the work yourself. We chose to sit on the side with the waitress who was beyond helpful and extremely nice. The place is extremely clean and the food was delicious. Came here for dinner the other tonight because it was the only place that didn't have a wait time over an hour (i know why now) and upon entry we waited to be greeted. When we were greeted the server/host let us know we could be seated in the main room and order at the front counter or by the bar where we could order at the bar. We decided to order at the bar because we wanted a few drinks anyway, we had finally figured out what we wanted to order so we made our way up to the bar. About 20 minutes went by and nobody had come over to take our order. We went back to the front to see if we could just place the order and sit back down by said bar and were told no we would have to move to the main seating area....So we waited for another 15 minutes before deciding the food and beer was in now way worth it for the shit service. Came here for a late lunch and we chose to serve ourselves. Get to order up in the front and pick a seat of your liking on the right side. If you want to be serve then you can hit on the left side where the bar is. You definitely getting your bang for your buck with 3 choices of meats and 2 sides. But if you want just the full rack it's definitely well worth it too. I like that they give you the selective BBQ sauces on the side. Definitely a good touch. We came at an hr that wasn't too busy which was around 2-3pm. Everything was pretty much spot on. A bit heavy salted on the veggies but overall I can't really complain. If you're feening for BBQ. You order at the cashier when you first walk in, know what you're ordering or stand there with the menu in your hand while you figure it out. When the food arrived it looked no better than barbecue food from TGI Fridays, Applebee's, etc... Then I tasted it and realized it's actually worse than TGI Fridays and Applebee's. Nothing was fresh, good, or even of decent quality. The ribs at chain restaurants are 3x better tasting. Mac and cheese was bland. Brisket was edible at best. The rolls were burnt (waitress even wanted us). Nothing was hot. I didn't watch them cook it but I wouldn't be surprised if everything frozen and packaged based off the taste. 2 entrees and an app was $75. I felt like I was ripped off. I want to clarify because I was under the wrong impression; this is not a quality restaurant with quality food whatsoever. I stopped by to order BBQ for take out and found this spot to be pretty good. They have the typical selection of meats that you'd find from a BBQ joint (brisket, ribs, pulled pork, chicken, sausage, etc.) as well as a bunch of sides. I went for the 3 meat combo and ordered country-roasted chicken, rib tips and jalapeno cheddar sausage. It came with 2 sides so I chose mac & cheese and fries. Of course, there are some meats / sides that cost a bit extra if you choose those instead. The combo also came with pickles and a corn muffin. I actually really enjoyed the meat here. The rib tips were fairly tender, besides the end pieces which was a bit tough. The chicken was perfectly seasoned and very juicy. The flavor was definitely seeped into the meat. The sausage was also very juicy and flavorful with a small kick of heat from the jalapeno. Since I also love cheese, I liked the addition of cheddar in it. They actually have a large selection of sides from mashed potatoes to sweet potato souffle or veggie options like brussel sprouts and salads. The mac & cheese was very creamy and again, had a kick of heat because it was jalapeno mac & cheese. I actually prefer my mac & cheese to be thicker but if you like the creamy cheese, then you'd like their version. I had a good experience with Famous Dave's when I came for lunch on a Sunday a few months ago. I got the two meat combo lunch special. For the price (I think it was like $12) it was pretty good. With that experience in mind, I ordered recently for takeout, hoping that it would be just as good, but I was a little disappointed this time around. I was ordering for dinner on a weekday, so I got the 2 meat 'Q Combo' ($17.50). I got the shredded pork and beef brisket (extra $1). It comes with a small corn muffin and I got beans and mac and cheese (extra $0.50) as my sides. Total came out to $21.16. The food was pretty satisfying, but wasn't anything amazing. The beans were pretty thick and tasted like baked beans from a can. Which doesn't mean it tastes bad; it just wasn't amazing. Same for the mac and cheese, though I liked that they added some jalapeno. The meats come on big pieces of white bread (texas toast?), which was a welcome addition. The shredded pork was the best item on the plate; it was pretty moist and satisfying. I actually liked the shredded pork more than the brisket. The brisket had surprisingly bad texture; dry and cardboard-like. It didn't taste 'bad'; it just wasn't good. Thinking back on it, my meal was fairly solid, but not spectacular. I think $21.16 is definitely too much. If it was like $13-15, I might consider giving more stars. Also, for a meal that was over $20, I think they were a little stingy with the portions.
