Me and my husband have been getting our hair done here for years because everyone here is so nice and professional, our hair comes out exactly how we want it, and it's so reasonably priced especially when compared to other salons! Shirley does such an amazing job with my hair every time, and she gives the best suggestions because I never know what I want to do to my hair. She is so sweet and funny too, and makes sure I leave the salon happy every time!! My husband always gets his hair cut by Jennie and he won't let anyone else cut his hair! She is professional and so sweet! The young receptionist is always really nice too!! I saw another client accidentally leave a product she purchased, and she ran after her for a while to give her product! I see her helping elderly clients too which is so kind of her. Additionally there's tons of free parking that's easily available, good product selection for reasonable and cheaper prices, and it's in a convenient location with tons of places to eat and shop after. I decided to stop in for a haircut because the location was convenient. The style I wanted was a medium length cut with face framing layers. The stylist did a dry cut which I thought was questionable at the time but figured she knew what she was doing. I got a cut without styling so I wasn't able to see the damage then and there. I straightened my hair when I got home and I saw that the stylist had missed a lot of long pieces of hair. The worst part is that the right side of my hair is shorter than the left side. She spent maybe 5 mins on my haircut. I've had many layered cuts in the past and what she did to my hair wasn't layers. None of the layers line up. Everything is crooked. I called the salon to express my displeasure and I found out that the woman who cut my hair was actually the manager. She did offer to fix my hair at no cost but I don't feel comfortable letting her touch my hair again. read more

I just went there last week and I had a tea tree shampoo treatment in my scalp and hair! It was unbelievable and I had it done by Shirley! she is definitely an expert and I can't wait to go there again. I would do that every two weeks. every day I brush my hair with a brush and about 100 strands of hair comes out when I clean the brush out but after that treatment the next morning, I brushed my hair out and three hairs only! I am a hairstylist and I've never ever done that to myself before or had it done in any of the salons I owned, but this time I really wanted to try it because I read one of the reviews, and guess what I loved it. I've been coming here for years. I've gone from long hair to short, curly hair to Japanese straight perm, natural black hair to highlights and I've loved the service everytime I come. Most of the time I'm a walk-in since I usually come early when the shop opens, and on a few occasions I've set appts. I've brought my daughter here and I've brought my mom here as well. I love the service they provide, the price is great and Lani & Shirley, who I always get, does professional work all the time. Although my experience has always been great, today was not the case. On Sat 2/22/2020 I walked in at about 1p to get a touch up and a trim. Everything was great from getting received right away, ushered to a chair to get the coloring process started, waiting about 30min for the color to set in and then ushered to the washing station. This is where the HORROR began! They had an older man there, and this was the first time I've seen him. He was helping with washing. He started washing my hair and instead of massaging my scalp while washing, he was scratching my scalp...hard!!! Then he asked, how's my washing, scratch harder?! I said no, lighter please...he eased up a little but went right back to scratching and then he started massaging hard OMGee!!! I said you can stop but he was so into it, I ended up with a red scratched up scalp, luckily no bleeding as he was going to town scratching! Not only that, felt as if my forehead was gonna rip off with him washing the dye off. This was a nightmare!!!! By the time I was in the drying station, I had a headache, my forehead felt raw and my scalp was sore to the max!!! Take that guy off the washing station please....afraid he'll tear skin on his next wash. read more

Located in a convenient spot in Kamehameha shopping center in Kalihi. There is plenty of parking and there's many other great places to go here besides a hair cut! Always come here for my hair cuts! I usually get the same women and I love them! They always know how to cut my Asian hair. The cost is very good and each person might have a different opinion on their hair cut style preference. The wait is never long even though they do get busy sometimes! I love only paying $20-$28 to get a trim or cut a lot off with a specific style I'm looking for. I wish I took a before and after picture, but I usually come here randomly when I am driving home. Today my hair was about to the bottom of my shoulder blades (mid-high back) and I got it all chopped off to my shoulders. The lady did a great job and it is very even! This is like probably the only salon that I go to due to accessibility and location. It's close to home. There's also a lot of stylists that's available to help you. I've been coming here since I moved to Hawaii in 2011. And they've worked with my hair since it was long and thick and they were the ones who thinned it out for me when I was in 7th grade, to when I had my first bangs in 9th grade, and when I started cutting my hair into a bob in 10th grade. They also did the styling for my hair (they basically curled it) on both proms and my graduation. During my senior prom, I made the mistake of putting too much hairspray on myself (my mom pressured me to put it on lmao) that ruined the styling that I got so we went back and they fixed it for me quickly for FREE (I was in a bit of a rush that time because I had a makeup appointment at Sephora Waikiki for the next hour) and even prior. There was also a time that I came back a week after my haircut because I got a haircut that was way too short than I intended, I didn't hate it but I just didn't know how to deal with it back then because of the layers. I went back to complain, which I usually don't do, and they taught me how to style it at home because it's not a type of hairstyle that can look decent without proper styling. I have mad respect for the ladies who work here to have dealt with me on multiple occasions in a professional manner. read more

I went to Fantastic Sam's in Kam Shopping Center to get a hair cut and I told the lady I wanted shoulder length layered. It looked okay when I left. Later that night I went to take a shower and washed my hair and I went to blow dry my hair and it didn't go the way the lady styled my hair. Certain places my hair was sticking out. We went to get a hair cut for my wife and a trim and layer of my hair as well as a root touch!! Well Shirley who does my hair this time did a horrific job!! At first when the cashier asked Shirley what my charges was she said $85 as we were about to pay she relayed in her native tongue that it was 105 because she forgot to add on the blow dry!!‍like wtf!! This review is not about their hair service but it's about their hair products. This particular location has a lot of variety of shampoo and other products. Some items are discounted. I'm not sure how long these products have been sitting on the shelf or where indeed they came from. I purchased a Paul Mitchell shampoo and there was something about the shampoo that was not right. The texture, the smell, and how it washed. My hair didn't feel clean. It might have just been a bad bottle, but I spent almost $50.00 on a liter! I'm not returning back to this place! read more

I've been coming to Fantastic Sam's for several years. My go to stylist is Shirley, she's really great, personable, and really good at what she does. Quite often by the time I walk in I feel like 50 cents, but when I'm done the work they do I leaving feeling like a million bucks. Today however it's my daughter's turn, she has really pretty hair but doesn't realize it I guess?! Anyway she just had a hair-do-make-over on her...Miracles still exist She had her hair trimmed by an inch from the bottom, then layered from her chin --Joanne did an amazing job! My child was very happy as was I. If you are in need of a salon, look no further they do a fabulous job at a FANTASTIC price! She had the handling of her tools like a veteran but had the spirit and friendliness of a giddy teenager - an absolute joy. Funny, mirthful, super friendly and a good listener. "Could I get the sides trimmed, almost skin to the top. Leave the top long, just trim the edges and line it up with pointy side burns please," I reply. 12:30 Spins the chair and holds out a mirror to see the back of my hair. "Thank You." 12:32 Walks out the door and looks at the time. Still got time to eat lunch! I love how quick they are on my lunch breaks and how fast they move through the men. The workers there are friendly as they seat you and go straight to work. I come here often since it is convenient to me, but I do wish they were a little more conversational during the hair cut. Sometimes I just sit there for 15-20 minutes just looking at myself not sure where to look. I don't want to look at myself too long because it feels weird, but then if I watch the hair stylist they might feel uncomfortable. I normally just read all the hair product names or look at the same pictures of ladies pictures they post on their walls. Also, they like to speak to other coworkers in other languages and it makes me feel uncomfortable. They might be talking business or talking about me, but that uneasy feeling made me take off some points. There were also a few times when they would leave me to help another customer or answer the phone. I feel weird with half cut hair sitting in a seat and the people in waiting room just looking. Maybe when their services change this update will too. I will continuously come here though. Love those quick snips. read more

I came here for a haircut and was extremely traumatized by the experience!!! The lady combed my hair so viciously that it made my head hurt and some of my strands broke. She then sprayed a miniscule amount of water and began cutting away. My hair was basically bone DRY. She showed me the results with a dirty and scratched up mirror so I couldn't really assess how bad it actually was till I got home. My boyfriend isn't very observant but when he saw me, he told me right away that the back of my head had a section of hair that was obviously not cut. Now I have to spend more time and money going to a reputable hair salon to fix my hair. read more

Thought I'd write this review now while my feelings are current. I went here last night to cut my bangs. The lady that did my hair completed her service under 5 minutes. I told her I wanted the length the same level as my brows. I wish she was more careful and took more time. She didn't comb my hair in front of my face to measure out properly like what normal people would do. She just grabbed my hair and cut. THAT'S IT. I felt very uneasy but I didn't want to make a big deal about it at the salon. I went home that evening to inspect the damage and sure enough, she missed 4 sets of strands that I eventually had to trim myself. Keep in mind, the strands were at least 2.5 inches long. The next morning, I woke up with bad bed hair (of course, everyone with bangs do but I'm not complaining about that). I started to style my hair and noticed MORE strands that needed cut. I went in after two months of quarantine to get a haircut. I told the lady cutting my hair to cut it 1/4 of an inch. She picks up my hair and indicates how much hair she was going to cut off i OK it because it's 1/4 inch. She then cuts off a whole inch of my fucking hair. And then she starts cutting the sides for 15 minutes. I asked if there was a problem she said no she's trying to even it out. So then the haircut finishes and then I am really really fucking pissed. She didn't even the sides out they're two different lengths. NEVER EVER go to this place. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. I NEVER write bad reviews but when I tell you don't go here, I mean it ! I had a special event to go to today and was looking for a simple trim and style. I walked away with 90$ out of my wallet and in tears. I have never been to a salon where they don't shampoo before a cut or at least flat iron it. (Take note if you look on their website it states that ALL trims, cuts, and styles include a wash) My stylist took less than 2 min to "trim" my hair. It was extremely rushed and botched. I asked if she had any product that would help combat the humidity for my style and she told me "yes, I'll put that in later " and she never did. Not only did she not put product in my hair she didn't use ANY heat protectant when styling it. She sprayed a copious amount of hair spray (which I understand because my hair is thin and I told her I was worried about fall out) but it was to the point where you could hear an audible crisp if I applied any pressure. On top of this, the stylist put a huge bump on the top of my head and I kept telling her it was way too high and she refused to lower it saying it would loosen eventually.... I told the stylist I was going to a special event and she left my hair looking horrible. The entire process, from the trim to the style, took less than 25 minutes! I don't know about you but if im going to spend almost 100$ I expect a detailed service. After I cashed out, refraining from balling my eyes out, I took a minute to collect myself before I called the store. When I called I asked about pricing on simple trims and I was quoted "25-35$" but was charged over 50$? When connected to the manager she told me it was because I had long hair. I get cutting long hair to a shorter style would cost more, however, isn't cutting an inch off a short style the same as cutting an inch off of longer hair ?? The manager also interrupted me SEVERAL times when I was trying to calmly explain why I was frustrated and was extremely unprofessional. I came home and immediately took out the horrible bump and restyled my hair myself, rushed, because I did not account for the time to fix the terrible style before I left for my event. While it took a time to fix my hair style for the day, it's going to take months to fix the botched and rushed trim. I might as well have thrown a crisp 100$ bill out the window this morning because that's as much as I got out of this salon. Since I am unable to respond to the comment left by the owner, I am adding to my review. I never "demanded" for a refund. Nor was the service any where close to 45 minutes. On top of this there was no undivided attention from my stylist. All I wanted when I called your salon was to be heard but instead I was ignored and interrupted. read more

I would not recommend this hair "salon" to anyone who actually cares what they look like. Let's face it, a hair cut is hard to fix unless you keep cutting shorter and shorter. Not to sound rude but, the staff couldn't pronounce any of their clients names (no matter how common the name may be), and they didn't follow directions. Yes, I understand Fantastic Sam's is a place to go for a quick cheap hair cut/style, but when I went I felt I didn't get my money's worth. I asked the "stylist" (if she even deserves that title) to "trim my hair" and I specifically told her "only half and inch." When she started she didnt wet my hair or pin it up in layers; she just started cutting. I noticed the first few strands were about 3 INCHES long. So I stopped her and told her again that I wanted a half inch trim. So she started cutting again. When she finished and gave me a mirror I was in shock at how ugly her work was. My hair literally came down at a sharp angle on both sides and down to a sharp point. It was awful. She asked if it was ok but I didn't even want to deal with her and just returned the mirror and went to pay. For a haircut I could have done better myself I paid $20+ for it. I won't go back. I hope she doesn't ruin anyone else's hair either. read more
