    oat milk latte
    Sara L.

Last Monday I set out to explore a cafe and bookstore close by in honor of my Dad's love for both on his birthday. I enjoyed Farley's in San Francisco in its early days so decided on checking out its East Bay location. I was delighted by this location's friendly, easygoing service, and lively atmosphere! Along with a perfect oat milk based latte, I ordered a turkey pesto sandwich. It was delicious and HUGE in proportion. Just the right amount of pesto, tomato, and cheese complimented the turkey on grilled sourdough bread. It also came with a good side salad. I sat at the bar top table by the entrance window and enjoyed a spontaneous conversation with a civil engineer that worked nearby. We heard customers nearby joyfully laughing. I saw what looked like friends catching up across the windowsills. Farley's East truly represents a quintessential Bay Area cafe experience.

Still top notch. Went back and got the thanksgiving panini. It was good. I could have used a side of the cranberry tho. Employees are great. Still love the chai.

Half and half combo of tuna melt panini with chicken Caesar salad and limeade

Nice Uptown Oakland lunch spot on Grand. The half and half combo is a decent deal at $18 with half a panini, half salad, and choice of a drink. The sandwich was good but the bread did kind of fall apart in the middle - the tuna melt probably needs thicker bread. The salad was generous with crispy cheese croutons and a mix of kale and other lettuces. The limeade tasted fresh and was tart. Easy to order with good service. Clean tables and serving areas. Metal utensils are by the pickup area. Laptop usage restricted to upstairs.

    Espresso & Macchiato (oat milk)

I got an espresso and an oat milk macchiato. Both were solid. Espresso: 3.5/5 When I saw they pulled double ristretto shots I knew I was in for a treat. Great layers and a creamy mouthfeel. I tasted citrus, a hint of caramel, and mild acidity. It wasn't burnt, but there was a slight bitterness that held it back a little. Macchiato: 4/5 Well executed. The oat milk complemented the espresso nicely, smoothing out the bitterness while keeping the flavors in tact. Would definitely come back.

Farley's is that neighborhood spot that has a place in my heart. When I was going thru national board certification for teaching, Farley's was the spot I camped out at upstairs to get my work done. Their coffee is great, their service is wonderful and the ambience lends itself to relax with a cup and a friend or focus on work. Thank you Farley's.

Standard five star. My only complaint is the price. Quite close to where I live now so thought I'd check them out. Ample seating, nice staff, short line. I love Starbucks so my bar is always "how do you compare to my regular at Starbucks and a Starbucks grilled cheese" and you'd be surprised most coffee shops don't compare well. Farley passed the test with flying colors. For about 5$ more my coffee tasted that much better and my Sandeitch was really just right. Savory, filling and with a small side salad. Tables were clean with a background of chill alt music. Would recommend and will come back.

I put in an order through DoorDash. Though this restaurant is in Oakland, it was delivered to my Hayward address where I live. The food was fresh with quality ingredients and generous portions . I ordered the turkey harissa sandwich which came with a small green salad. The sandwich was quite large- larger than most places serve anywhere. The majority of restaurants have made what once was large sandwiches quite small for the same price so I appreciate the large size so I can share with family.. The Hearty House salad had generous toppings, and was fresh and delicious The homemade tomato soup was yummy . The mochi, donut and gluten-free muffin were excellent Give this place a try you will be glad you did Bon appétit

I haven't tried the food but I love the matcha here! Service is nice and the ambiance is quiet at times but can get a bit busy during lunch. I'd go here again for a quick cafe break! 7/10

    Extra burnt bagel

I thought I'd give it another try and update my review with more stars, since I don't want to hurt a small business--I like supporting them, and you usually can't go wrong with a simple bagel and cream cheese. But while I was eating it, I realized the bagel was overloaded with cream cheese, spilling out everywhere and making a mess. Then it hit me: they may have filled it that much to cover how extremely burnt the bagel was. ‍

It was closed the last few times I went because of some staffing issues, which I read more in detail about in the news and will sadly prevent me from going back there due to conscience. Before that, I'd been there a handful of times on the weekends when my regular places were closed. The place looks clean, and products appear nice, too, though not the freshest and a bit overpriced. The coffee is average/not bad and has enough seating for several people, though the tables were a little sticky.

Loved my experience at Farley's! I miss the days when Oakland was hustling and bustling and Farley's was just that on a Tuesday afternoon. There were folks grabbing lunch and coffee or meeting people to catch up, like myself. They have indoor and outdoor seating. The service was really friendly. There was a line almost the entire time I visited but didn't feel rushed by any means at ordering. I kept it simple and had an Americano ($4), which was absolutely delicious. The coffee was served hot and tasted very smooth. I sat outside and enjoyed the moments of sunshine between the spurts of rain. Being located at the corner of Grand and Broadway also makes it very central to other restaurants and a short walk away from Lake Merritt. I would definitely come back for lunch and/ or some tasty treats Yummy Certified!

They often have a lot of gnats and flies in the restaurant, it's... unappetizing. Some discrete traps would help the issue.

I pedaled my bike over there this Wednesday morning, aiming to secure a proper breakfast that would actually carry me past 11 a.m. The shop is cozy, definitely on the smaller side with a few seats inside, giving it that familiar, neighborhood spot feel. It's not a sprawling, antiseptic café, and I appreciate that. I ordered the Laney Breakfast Sandwich, which features egg, fresh spinach, sliced turkey, and Swiss cheese on a toasted English muffin. What impressed me was the intentionality--this wasn't something sitting under a heat lamp, looking defeated. It was clearly made to order. The egg was seasoned right, the turkey wasn't flimsy, and the spinach added that necessary fresh bite. It was a damn good sandwich, simple as that. I paired that with the Berry Lovers Smoothie. The original recipe calls for banana, but I asked if they could swap that out for mango. My people know that mango adds a different kind of sunshine, and they executed the substitution flawlessly. It came out thick, perfectly blended--a rich mix of blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, and that mango kick. It was super refreshing and didn't taste like I was drinking melted ice. The service was quick and friendly, which is key on a weekday morning. Everything tasted clean, fresh, and intentionally prepared. If you're looking for high-quality breakfast fare that feels less commercial and more like something someone actually cares about, stop by. The short bike ride and the intimate seating are worth it for what comes out of that kitchen. They earned this review.

Our orders were taken and we sat down to wait. There were a TON OF FLIES buzzing around and I kept having to wave them off especially when we got our order to the table, which honestly was gross. We were called to pick up our order, but only 1 of the 4 items was ready: Zadie's Masterpiece Breakfast Sando - Really tasty and enjoyed the biscuit it was on. Skimpy on the bacon, there was ONE piece but overall good breakfast sandwich. Next item ready 5 minutes later: Khadija's Slow Burn Harissa Hot Honey Breakfast Burrito - Really tasty. Definitely flavor packed and would order this again. *BUT there was an issue. Apparently the person that ordered before us asked for the same burrito to go...they NEVER got it and yet our order was ready. The person was pretty cool about it but they were definitely annoyed and gave us a look although it wasn't our fault. *The ordering system seems unorganized with the cashier writing orders on a slip of receipt paper and putting them on a stand by the kitchen. I wonder if the slips were out of order or fell and they skipped this persons to go order? IDK but they need a better system! We tried waiting for our coffees before starting to eat but then our food started getting cold...YOU KNOW WHY?... because the poor person that was taking orders was also in charge of making drinks. Having one person as cashier and barrista is NOT a good idea on a busy Saturday morning. It was hard for them to take a moment and focus on the drinks becuase people kept coming in an placing orders which means we waited for 20+ minutes before getting our drinks. By then our food was mostly eaten! Thankfully we noticed they had a water pitcher for free water which was a saving grace! The wait for drinks was so long that people that were already sitting when we arrived and had already eaten their food were JUST getting their drinks before us. HORRIBLE! I felt really bad for the cashier/barista :( Another turn off, there is no understanding on what to do with dirty dishes. Do we bus our table? If so where do we put it? We noticed people leaving plates by the water pitcher and cups, some put them on the long counter by the coffee area. There wasn't a garbage or compost bin, so we weren't sure where to put food scraps. There was a bin for "Plastic Only" but only the cup lids were plastic and the cup itself was paper, so where TF do you put that? We noticed a black plastic bin that someone had brought out from the back, so we placed our stuff in there but wasn't exactly sure. We tried to ask the cashier/barista but they were slammed with customers so we ccouldn't get their attention. IDK the place is just poorly organized and messy! There are tables for people to make artwork which is nice but on a busy Saturday it might have been nice to clean those areas up to allow people to sit. Sorry guys... *You need a dedicated barista! People waiting 20+ minutes for drinks is insane especially when the food comes out relatively fast. *Please clean up your restaurant. The amount of flies was gross and no one wants to swat them away from food & drinks. *Tell people if they should bus their own tables and if so.... *Make it clear where to leave plates, cups, garbage, compost etc.
