Ordered pickup and my coworker drove and picked up the food so I wasn't able to double check at the store. I got the ahi salad and the salad is 90% cabbage and the ahi was cold. Besides being cold, the ahi wasn't terrible and I ate it, since I hate cabbage. I called the store and was told I could bring it back but that's such an inconvenience, I'd rather be hungry and just never spend my money here again. If you must still eat here I'd stick to the fried foods, but just know those portions are small and you'll probably still be hungry, like my coworker. Just go anywhere else in Kailua. read more

This is a fast food type joint similar to L&L, not a sit down type restaurant. Small location in the middle of Kailua town across the street from Starbucks. Seating for two only inside, outside has plenty seats. Free open parking right in the front. No bathroom inside. The lady working there at the counter didn't seem that friendly, I didn't really get a welcoming vibe. She didn't smile once and I don't even remember her acknowledging me when I came in because there was minimal eye contact as if she was trying to avoid me. Picked up some of the Fatboy Bentos. The bento is a reasonable price and comes with hot dog, Spam, shrimp tempura, teriyaki beef, garlic chicken and rice. They have fountain drinks for sale as well as bottled drinks. Had a craving to eat fish and I remembered that Fatboy's always has some kind of fish special. Tried calling in a couple of times with no answer and thought I'd give it one more try - success! I was told the special was a furikake crusted ahi with a sriracha aioli so I ordered two of them and a garlic chicken bento, can always finish the leftovers for lunch the next day. Garlic chicken was pretty much as it usually is, mixed reviews on the ahi though. I did like the concept of the dish but the ahi was a bit overcooked and the sriracha aioli was just drenched over it like gravy. The sauce overpowered the fish so much that you could not tell it was "furikake crusted" - I couldn't taste the furikake at all. If you order this ask them to jut drizzle the sauce and not pour it over. read more

Pretty disappointed. They haven't updated their online menu to reflect the increased prices in store... so it's a little misleading. Lady wasn't too friendly. I used to always order the moa moa moa for the quality and value... good portion size for the price... however today's portion was disappointing. Instead of the 3 pieces of garlic chicken it normally came with.. I got 2 pieces... the garlic chicken was hard and wasn't fresh... you can tell it was sitting for a while.. the chicken katsu was over cooked and hard... the bbq chicken was burnt on the underside... and you could smell the burn and taste the burn.. the quality was underwhelming. I've had so much better here and I'm disappointed that the quality has gone down so much while the prices have gone up. To start the lady that runs the restaurant probably the owner, was extremely rude and not friendly at all. They don't have knifes to cut your food or even water, she claimed the water line wasn't hooked up. The food was bland and the Buffett style items tasted day old. Ever since I was a young girl, my family would come to FatBoy's so consistently that we would have to give it up for Lent! I haven't been there for years now, and after reading some of the Yelp reviews, I was very scared and disappointed to try it again. I ordered the regular chicken curry plate with white rice and salad, my mom had the mini pork adobo plate with white rice and mac salad, and my dad had the regular garlic chicken plate with brown rice and mac salad. There was a small line when we entered, but they worked pretty quickly and gave us our three plates soon after we ordered. Strangely, the lady who ordered in front of us was still waiting for her food (she probably ordered around four plates). My first bite of chicken curry was extremely salty, and I could barely eat any more. The garlic chicken was fabulous as usual. Crispy and delicious! Unfortunately, the mac salad was too mayonnaise-y for my mom's liking (a mac salad lover). When I first walked in I was not greeted at all. The lady looked a bit mad. I got the IronHawaii Plate because it was the healthiest choice there and I was starving. Brown Rice Egg Whites Chicken Sausage Furikake Ahi I first took a bite of the AHI, dry. I then ate the egg, it was okay but still a little slimmy underneath. I tried it with some brown rice and realized the brown rice tasted a bit sour and even had a slimmy feel to it. So despite what this place would have you believe, this is NOT where the locals eat. We were in a pinch and hungry, so we stopped in for lunch one day. As per usual, I got a poke bowl. The tuna was fresh, and the flavor was good, but the entire dish was completely overwhelmed with large slices of onion. Poke should have some onion in it, but this was totally way too much and really large pieces. It made the whole dish taste like onion. My inlaws got some sort of deep fried chicken, which they said was OK. Service was just OK too, not particularly friendly and a bit rushed since there were like nine people crammed into the super tiny storefront. There is no indoor seating, only outdoor seating. In all, it was OK. But I think there are way better options very nearby and would recommend going to one of those instead. read more

Kinda disappointed with fat boys today. I think there menu kinda over hyped their garlic chicken since it says most popular item. I decided to try the garlic chicken and man oh man. This place is ok. I thought it would be better. When you say fat boy you would think big portions but that's not how it is here with some dishes. The sign said rack of lamb $14.00+ so I thought I'd give it a try at med rare. I have to say the lamb was perfect but it was no rack. It was just three pieces! I'm pretty sure a rack is six to seven pieces. definitely not worth the price. The loco moco was on the skoshi side too. The bowl was big but it looked small in the big bowl. The patty was good but small under the over easy egg. One thing I can vouch for is the garlic chicken. (sorry no pic) The flavor was definitely there and the portion was good. The taste kinda reminds me of RC drive inn crispy shoyu chicken. Taste was almost similar. Their beef stew and their curry stew has a great flavor, but I would love more veggies (carrots, potatoes, etc.) in it, and small chunks of it. The meat could use more simmering - it's sometimes tough, and less fat on it would be nice. Their rice is hard.....not sure why. The mini sizes are generous. I came here after hearing all the rave reviews about their garlic chicken. I love garlic chicken and when I saw on a yelp talk thread that fatboys in Kailua had the best, I planned a time to drive out to Kailua to give it a try. I thought it would be a bigger establishment, but it's literally just a counter where you order. There are a couple outdoor tables just outside though. The menu is pretty typical: plate lunches, poke, etc. of course, I ordered the garlic chicken. It was good. I don't know if it's the best garlic chicken I've ever had, but it was good. The cashiers were nice considering the huge crowd inside. We were kinda packed in there waiting for our orders. It was a little too squishy for me. They were a little overwhelmed though and didn't follow through with my transaction. I had to awkwardly leave my signed receipt on the counter under a paperweight so it wouldn't blow away every time the door opened. Will I be back? Ehhhh maybe if I'm in the area, but I have a few other favorite places I like going to in Kailua. Fatboys has ample parking and is located across from Starbucks. We ordered two four piece Garlic Chicken side orders ($2.50 each) and they were nice enough to give us 10 pieces total. My wife had some at a party the weekend before, and since we were hiding out in Kailua letting traffic die down we thought we'd stop in for a snack. The Garlic Chicken was tasty, moist, not too greasy, and had a hard to describe Japanese flavor. I'd get it again, but won't crave it. The girls in front of us ordered a tasty looking Loco Moco. Apparently breakfast is big here (half the menu is devoted to it) including items like Corn Beef Hash and Fried Rice Omelet. The lunch selections look to bee pretty standard (Beef Stew, Katsu, etc) with Roast Pork, Kalua Cabbage, and the Garlic Chicken thrown in the mix. Additionally they have a fairly extensive catering menu. It's basically a better quality plate lunch place. According to the message from the owner that's written on the menu they try to "provide a well-rounded daily menu of local favorites and gourmet specials, all with no MSG added." I look forward to coming back sometime,and trying other items. In truth , I rushed to post this review since it's not easy to get a Kailua first in Charlie D.'s hood. LOL read more

This has always been a reliable and tidy plate lunch option in Kailua. I prefer it to L&L both based on location and on food quality. Others say they have smaller portions which I think is generally true, but I don't find that to be a bad thing. I always think portions are too much at L&L and I end up wasting food if I'm not going immediately back home. Disappointing that they ran out of Ahi because I wanted to order their Kilauea Volcano Spiced Fresh Ahi Salad. At $7.99 it sounded like the perfect dish that I wanted for dinner )))): Oh well. Instead I ordered the Baked Shoyu chicken mini plate. The flavor just seemed a bit salty and sweet, nothing too complex. Topped with a couple sesame seeds and served with white rice and toss (which contained some bitter green I didn't like) with a creamy papaya seed dressing. This isnt too bad considering proxmity to some great Kailua beaches! Since we last went on a Sunday afternoon at 5:30pm, they were out of chili and onion rings. Disappointed! Sorry to start off this way but, it's true. Used to love their garlic chicken but, I had confirmation again that I'm never coming back to this place ever. Chicken was not freshly cooked, hard and not juicy inside like it used to be couldn't taste any garlic sauce. This time I also ordered the furikake ahi with sciracha aioli sauce small piece of ahi buried under a heaping glob of sauce. Macaroni salad bland just macaroni and mayo.
