Looks are Deceiving!! I was here for lunch and when I go somewhere new, I always get tacos to try out the meat. 3- Tacos Al Pastor, Chili Verde and Carne Asada. Everything was clean neat and tidy! No dust on the table, both even a smell or oder. Within a minute I received my plate of tacos, garnished with lettuce and a single slice of tomato. Each taco was topped with a pico de gallo..salsa. After eating half of each, I decided it was not worth finishing. The meat had no texture, no seasoning! It was mushy!! Each meat tasted like it had been stewing for a long time and I didn't want to get "sick". Meat is the heart and soul in a taco, none of the less Mexican food! The tortillas were very soft, limp like they were steamed. If I were a local, I would of asked for a refund or asked for sometime else. I cleaned up after myself and threw away my meal. I've have enjoyed plenty of tacos throughout California, I know a mushy taco when I see one!!! read more

Always on lookout for decent Mexican food I decided to give Vacaville Favela's a go for lunch today. First impression is of a not bad looking Mexican place with outside seating in the Target shopping plaza. The interior is on the smaller side, with only about 6 tables with nice, rustic chairs. The Corona decor is kept to a minimum, which is a good thing for this type of an establishment. Favela's though does not know what it wants to be....a taqueria or a restaurant. Judging from the prices, it looks like it is the latter. And this is where the problems start popping up. First of all there is no service....like, at all. Order at the register. The dude taking the order is almost robotic, no customer service involved at all. Once you order the food it's self-seating and they bring it out from the kitchen, or more like drop it off at your table. There is no salsa bar. If you want chips+salsa it will be $3... Some Yelpers claim that Favela's has the best burrito in Vacaville so I went with Asada burrito. This might be the only item on the menu that is not overpriced, running at about $6.50. The burrito along with $3 chips and salsa came at the same time, in mere minutes. For the joint that has Grill in it's name I was expecting the meat to be actually grilled upon order but it was evident from the color and taste that it was not the case. The burrito is just rice+beans+tortilla along with the choice of meat...if you want any upgrades it will be Super Burrito and cost you more. The soda fountain is behind the register so if you want a refill then you will need to wait for the cashier to finish what he is doing at the time. Same thing with the salsa. The tacos here are also vastly overpriced at $2.95, and the combo meals will go above $12 for an item with rice+beans. In my book that is called a ripoff. If Favela's provided a top notch table service, the food was much better than it is, and the location was a bit fancier, then maybe I could justify paying this much for Mexican food. There is a lot of better Mexican food at better price in the area. Favela's Vacaville? Not recommended. read more

Went in for the first time in awhile, main issue was the fact that they don't tell you when you order under the combination section of the menu that the second column isn't actually under combination. Misleading and had I known I would not have ordered the quesadilla, cause it wasn't worth it by itself and had expected to get rice and beans. Very cute, small place with Mexican decor. You order at the counter then they bring your food to you at a table (if dining in). I ordered a 2- item combo plate with a chicken crispy taco and pork tamale. My companion tried their shrimp taco, which she seemed to like. My chicken taco was tasty (although I wasn't a fan of their stand up taco shell), but I swear, their tamale looked and tasted EXACTLY like the Del Real ones they sell at Costco. Even the size is the same! Other pork tamales I've had from other restaurants, tasted different from other restaurants, and never like Del Real tamales. For this reason, I was disappointed with my meal. If I give this restaurant a second chance (since their tacos were tasty), then I'd try a different dish that they have to assemble by order, such as a taco or tostada. read more

Worst burritos ever, first over priced. Almost $50 for 2 regular burritos we had avocado add on and it was like two slices of it. The salsa had no flavor the pico the gallo no lemon. To add the lady who was at the register didn't wash her hands the whole time we were there, handing money, drinks prepping food and cleaning tables. That was disgusting to watch. Awful customer service from the lady I talked to for a take-out order. When I asked her to confirm the ingredients in my burrito, she just said that I ordered a burrito and chips. I asked again for her to confirm the ingredients in the burrito and went around in circles, totaling four times asking in different ways without getting an answerto this very simple request and she hung up. I called again and the same lady answered and without sword put on hold music, no "one moment please "can you wait on hold?" as is customary in customer service. I didn't bother trying again and won't be trying this place again. The other time I went here, a man was very helpful, had good listening comprehension, and was friendly. My husband went to Favela's 9/28/21 to order takeout. I have always ordered chicken and steak Fajita's combo. At the price of 15.00 Dollars. Tonight we ordered the same Fajita's chicken/steak. They told my husband the combo would be 28.00 dollars ? What the Hell ? I could buy one chicken Fajita @15.00 and one steak Fajita @ 15.00 dollars each = 30.00 dollars. I did check the menu and combo Fajitas we not on the menu. I'm sure they were when I ordered the last few times. On top of all that the quality of the food was not what I have had before! what's up? I've eaten here a couple times before today and never had an issue but I was treated so badly today I will NEVER RETURN TO THIS ESTABLISHMENT! I was meeting a friend that was running late. I arrived and went into the restroom. No one was at the counter when I arrived. Suddenly they started banging on the door! The lady that took our order literally told me we had 18 min to eat then we were deciding our food and I heard her tell the chef that it's a "to go" order then I asked if we could at least eat the guacamole and chips here (I had my hungry 1 year old in my arms) she literally ignored me and just put the guacamole and chips all in our "to go" order. I love this place. There are several Mexican restaurants to choose from in Vacaville and many of them are good but what makes Favela's stand out are the employees. The staff have been working here a long time and they have a lot of pride in what they do. The food is consistently good and you always get friendly, attentive service. Called in my order at 6:15. Arrived to pick up at 6:45. When I got there they didn't have my order. They seemed confused and didn't know what happened. I repeated my order which was only two things and she asked the cook who said he already made the order. She frantically was looking for the ticket which she ended up finding in the garbage, so I had to wait even longer so they can make my order again( I'm assuming she gave the order to another customer) Not only was it messy when I got it home, there was no salsa, which I repeatedly asked for. Wouldn't you think that Vacaville would have at least a decent Mexican place? This place isn't it; it's a pale imitation of a run-of-the-mill taqueria, which it isn't really either, but it's hard to say what it is because the food is so bland and underseasoned. Then again, for those who are cruising through the shopping center here with Safeway and Target next door, I may be asking for too much. First of all the place is much too small. The tables and chairs are too close together but you have to order up front at the counter and the food is brought out to you. The decor is cheap and it's rather quiet. You don't get chips or salsa, as someone else already mentioned. And that sucks because, well, you have to actually pay extra for that. Imagine that. You go across the freeway and you can pig out on the assembly-line crappy enchiladas at Murillo's and they practically give you chips and salsa the moment you sit down. Here, they assume you want to pay for this. The tacos (carne pastor and carne asada) were underseasoned and probably had no salt. The chile verde burrito had poor quality pork (the meat was purple) and there was a very unpleasant aftertaste/burn. I certainly hope they didnt use a habanero pepper when they made this because it just doesnt work well with the pungency of the tomatillo. Why can't chile verde actually showcase the "verde", or the tomatillo sauce, instead of just making a pile of chopped up pork. Also, why were there no carnitas tacos/burritos? Isn't this a mainstay of most taquerias? Pastor-style tacos are not enough --well, certainly not these because they were essentially inedible. Finally I just think it's too much to ask to pay $9.95 for combination plates of, say, a taco and tostada. People! Mexican food is not expensive to make. Take a few tortillas, fry them up, stuff them with lettuce and cheese you got out of a bag, sour cream from a vat, and low-quality meat you got from Grocery Outlet. This should not happen in a town like Vacaville. All in all there are vastly more superior Mexican spots in Vacaville/Fairfield. read more

These stars are for their vegetarian burrito (not to be confused with their veggie/vegetable burrito). Your choice of tortilla and beans, we always get ours with spinach tortilla and black beans. Also included are rice, cheese, sour cream, and guacamole. It is very, very yummy! Their chips, salsa, and guacamole are very good too. (You have to pay for chips and salsa if you want some, though.) Pretty good customer service. The same guys have been working there for a while so as soon as we pull up they already know our order. The food was ok. I ordered a crane Asada taco and shrimp taco (Favelas way), Spanish rice and side of chips and guacamole. I think this place is way overpriced. One taco was $5.25 and a regular taco was $4.25. Chips and guacamole is about $8.99, I got a small thing of it which was cheaper. The tacos were ok, nothing to rave about. There were some pieces in the rice that were hard. The salsa, is not typical of most Mexican places, it was watery. The chips were nothing to rave about either. My ultimate favorite burrito is the Flavela's burrito with Carne Asada, if your not feeling like meat- have a Shrimp Burrito. This place can be a little pricy but if I tell you one burrito makes me ambitiously want another one right after... its worth it. read more

I can't exactly describe what Favela's is. It's not authentic Mexican like the taco trucks and it's not a gourmet Mexican. However, after eating at this Favela's for the last 10 years, I can tell you that it's solid and consistent. I don't eat much meat so I order the shrimp burrito almost every time. It's a burrito with fluffy shrimp, salsa, grilled onions, and cabbage. You can get it on a flour, spinach, tomato, or whole grain tortilla. This burrito can be a bit bland without guac or sour cream but, a drizzle of fresh salsa will add lots of flavor. Plus, it's $6.50 - a real bargain for a shrimp dish. The chicken, steak, and pork burritos are $5.45 each and they're pretty standard. At times, the meat can be dry. The tacos are close to $2 each and I don't think they're worth it since the meat can be dry and they skimp on the toppings. The lunch or dinner plates are $10 to $11, which are a bit pricey for a taqueria of this caliber. The only exception would be the grilled steak, onions, and peppers dish - that one was well worth it. This is a great take-out burrito place. If you dine in, they'll also throw in a basket of chips. They have a salsa bar where you can load up on your favs. read more

From the two times I've come to this restaurant, they've met my expectations. For a Mexican food restaurant they make some good food. Even my b.f. commented on how good their food was and he usually just thinks every place we go to is pretty much the same. I ordered their enchiladas and chicken taco and it was excellent. My b.f. ordered their super carne asada burrito and their chicken nachos and he was very satisfied. We haven't tried any other meals here but from what we've ordered previously, we don't have any complaints. This restaurant is pretty small on the inside but their decor is pretty out dated. The cooks are actually right in front of you preparing your order which I like. They have nothing to hide. And the owner of this place seems very nice and professional. Favela's used to be my favorite place to get a shrimp taco. I loved the fresh and plump shrimp piled onto a warm corn tortilla then stuffed with cabbage, chunky salsa and topped generously with whole sprigs of cilantro. The last time I went to Favela's however, the tacos were shrimpy and I'm not talking about loads of prawns. I don't know if the new cooks just don't like to use as many shrimps, but the taco was skimpy and I didn't get the sprig of cilantro. Also, where were the chips that are supposed to accompany my shrimp tacos? They were M.I.A. Sigh...I have learned how to make very similar shrimp tacos at home, and although I haven't figured out the exact seasonings, I still make a filling and fresh Favela's type of taco. Favela's has tasty burritos! I ordered a Chicken Favela's Burrito. The burrito is basically a super burrito with the sour cream, guacamole, and cheese. You can choose to have a spinach, tomato, wheat, or flour tortilla, and a choice of beans. I had the spinach tortilla with black beans. The burrito was smaller than I'm used to, but it was very tasty! The flavors blended together well and it was not greasy. The bad part about Favela's is that you have to ask for salsa or other condiments. You also need to get your order when your named is called. In addition, chips and salsa was a la carte. Luckily one of my friends ordered chips and salsa. I liked the spicy salsa better than the "house" salsa. Favela's takes pride in their fresh and healthy foods. I'm Vegan and I love going here when I'm craving a Burrito. Vegan options are a rare find in Solano County. I either order the vegetarian with black beans, no cheese, or sour cream or the Vegetable Burrito with black beans, minus the cheese. All wrapped in a warm whole wheat tortilla. This place is great! The food is always well seasoned, hot, and the service is always fast and friendly. The only downside is their website, the menu section isn't active anymore. BEST Mexican restaurant in Vacaville!! Prices are fantastic, and their dishes are always served hot and delicious. They do NOT use lard. Their chicken is clean and seasoned perfectly. We will be back again soon! As a side note, we have tried most of the other Mexican food restaurants in Vacaville even the ones Voted "Best of," and we have been severely disappointed.
