Writing this review from the perspective of a vegetarian. I liked that they gave us complimentary items- a cold cauliflower soup, dessert, and the smoked butter with bread. We went for my birthday. The tortilla soup was pretty good, and I would definitely go back to have it. It's supposed to be a favorite on their menu. I thought the jackfruit tacos were too oily and too salty (but enjoyed the tiny avo tacos) and I also thought the sampler was mediocre at best - too oily, flavors were okay and too similar to one another. Definitely would not try the tacos/sampler again - if I went back I would probably get the vegan curry. Overall, an expensive meal of course with good, but not great, food. read more

Fearing's Restaurant - Farm to Fearing 's Vegetable Salad - New American Near Me - Dallas, Texas

My man took me to Fearing's for my 30th birthday, and it was a terrific experience. We each ordered a glass of wine; he had the Inwood Estates Tempranillo and I had glass of Sauvignon Blanc. The Tempranillo was outstanding and probably surpassed any Spanish Tempranillo we've tried. For an appetizer, we split the trio of crabcakes, duck tamales, and mini lobster tacos. Each had a different flavor and element of smokiness. The duck tamale was quite spicy, but not overwhelming. For entrees, I had the halibut and he had the buffalo tenderloin. The halibut was a gigantic slab of fish served on crab succotash with fried green tomatoes. The fish was perfectly cooked and the flavors melded together beautifully. The buffalo tenderloin was out of this world. It too was perfectly cooked, and had a unique earthy flavor. The waiter told us it has more Omega-3 than salmon. We received the best service I've experienced in the states. It was down to earth and friendly without being unprofessional. I loved the rhythm of all the different roles and when they visited. It was like a well-rehearsed dance number. Also, Dean Fearing came by twice to say hi. He seems like an interesting character. The atmosphere was interesting. It is a beautiful space that obviously cost a lot to build. However, it doesn't feel stuffy. The classic rock playing in the background probably helped contribute to the more laid-back atmosphere. Our table was comfortable, as we sat opposite each other on what seemed to be small couches. Fearing's surpassed my expectations and we will likely return on a future special occasion. Ok so let me be the first to say that I have been here for lunch and had a fabulous experience. This review is based on Valentines Day dinner last night. V-Day has got to be one of the busiest nights of the year, and my husband and I usual stay in, but it fell on a weekend so he booked reservations a while ago. Now when you come to a place where you are spending well over $60 per person to eat you expect not only the food to be perfection, but the service as well, the short of the long is they fell short. We arrived early for our reservation and were promptly seated by the friendly hostess in a fabulous dress. The room was filled with couples enjoying dinner, which is standard, but I also noticed a lot of waitstaff running around aimlessly, along with some managers who were trying to help handle the load. It was quite chaotic. We were offered a drink menu and the bread basket. The bread was AMAZING! I haven't had a carb in a month and a half and it was well worth the splurge. I honestly should have ordered another round of the jalapeño bacon cornbread and cheese crackers, yum! I decided on the Peppercorn Soaked Buffalo Tenderloin on Jalapeño Grits while my husband opted for the Wagyu Beef Fillet and Chicken Fried Maine Lobster. Our main waiter told us they were excellent choices and some of his favorite, I always like to get insight as to what they enjoy. Within 15 minutes two plates came out by someone who was not our waiter. She dropped the plates on the table and turned around to walk away. Um whaaaaaaaaat? I was a little put off by this and she seemed annoyed when I called her back to tell her that my husbands order was not correct. She said it was, that they were both buffalo. They looked great, but one was not what he ordered. She took up both plates and said she would bring back the correct order with another Buffalo dish for me so that we could eat at the same time. Ahhh, yes that would be great, it is Valentines Day after all. Five minutes after the drop off a different waiter came to deliver two more dishes, both buffalo. He was more pleasant when my husband told him he ordered the Wagyu Beef w/ Maine Lobster, not the Buffalo. At this point Dean Fearing is making the rounds which was pretty cool to see. He is quite pleasant, and asked if we had any questions about the menu. He tried to corral the waitstaff who at this point were returning incorrect dishes from slightly annoyed patrons. It was quite chaotic, and honestly one of the reasons for the rating. 20 minutes later our food came out, FINALLY! Now the only criticism I have about my dish is that my meat was a little overcooked, but still delicious. I could have eaten those jalapeño grits all day long, they were superb, and honestly one of the best things I've ever eaten, and this northern gal really isn't into grits! My husband found his beef to be way overcooked, and the lobster to be a little on the salty and greasy side which was a real shame, as he was looking forward to this for months. He was underwhelmed :( Will I come back, yes, for lunch. It's a lot more calm, relaxed, and the people watching is much better during the day ;). read more

His food is out of this world!! I LOVE this restaurant! We took my brother here for dinner to celebrate his birthday. This menu has something for everyone. And, MY FAVORITE THING IN THE WORLD.....a TASTER's MENU!!! Fearing's tasters menu was excellent. If you have ever wanted to eat food that looks like it jumped right off of your favorite Chef TV show AND it tastes delicious, this is the place for you. The restaurant atmosphere is wonderful too. A beautifully appointed decor. It's feisty in there because everyone is talking and enjoying each other (pre-COVID19). But it still feels intimate and made for you. Whoever you are. If you want, you may be seated near the open kitchen and watch all the magic. (Pre-COVID19). This is fine dining made approachable. You don't have to dress up or be made to feel like you are just not welcome. You can wear your nice jeans, good shirt favorite kicks or boots and you are good. Breakfast only review here. My one dinner visit was too long ago to remember objectively. Caveat before I start: this breakfast came FO FREE for me, so I will attempt to incorporate the knowledge that it WOULD have cost me $74 for two people had I had to pay for it. And with that knowledge, you may ask would I pay for it again at $74? Damn straight I would and I will. See, this city is running WAY short on inspired breakfasts. You may not have noticed it but it seems like most of our population is happy if you crack an egg and some bacon and a tough-ass pancake on their plate. Ihop is not food people! Original Pancake house gets close, but damn it if I feel like I'm eating in my grandmother's house with the washed out pictures on the wall and doilies underneath my orange juice glass. Fearing's...first plus is that the gardener from Desperate Housewives is eating one table over from me (not a plus in itself, but his hot girlfriend is there and she's ogling my table, though mostly at my dining partner's Bottega bag). We had the buffet. Fine selection: quality benedicts, tasty grits, eggs that were freshly scrambled and replenished regularly, delicious fruits, good baked goods, smoked salmon slices with the trimmings. Other items that get cloudy in my mind but that were interesting and delicious. We could have driven down that buffet road and never looked at any of the side streets, buuuuutttttt....I love pancakes. So the griddle cakes caught my eye. Extra $16 or so? What the hell (not my dime). First bite: fluffy Cat-Fancy girlie feelings and 5 minute You Tube kitten video mix overload running through my brain. Freaking what the hell? Am I still in Dallas cause this is NOT a Dallas breakfast. In my pancake euphoria I quickly stripped off all my clothes and streaked around the restaurant until I was tackled by the surprisingly diminutive yet hard bodied aforementioned gardener. As they slung a sports coat for under-dressed diners over my shoulders and led me back to my table, I noticed that my dining partner had finished the griddle cakes AND had scored the phone number of the hot girlfriend to talk about makeup and Europe. I rubbed the empty griddle cake plate all over my face and resolved to come back, sooner rather than later, bringing my own money next time for the best breakfast in Dallas. read more

Since the very first time I visited Fearing's over a year ago and received extremely slow and unprofessional service from the hostess, each and every other time I've gone since, its gotten better and better. The wait time to get a table during our reservation time has improved and the new hostesses they have at the front desk are a lot friendlier and professional. I'm so happy about this because Fearing's food is so phenomenal, that my fiance' and I frequent the restaurant a few times a month, but I was almost turned off completely from this restaurant. As far as the service inside of the restaurant, it's great. The waiters are very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. It doesn't hurt either that almost every time we've come here, Dean Fearing's himself made his way to our table. He is extremely personal and loves to make his diners feel right at home. I appreciate the fact that the menu changes here so often. Each time I've come, I've ordered something different, and its all been stellar. I can't imagine a more eclectic plate of food that have so many different flavors that I could have ever dreamed of pairing together. But, aside from all of the great food, there's nothing better than being able to make slight substitutions without the kitchen saying no. This is how you know that you're dealing with top chefs when you can request for substitutions and they get it right without any hesitation whatsoever. From the delicious cornbread muffins, to the broiled oysters, to the chicken fried lobster, to the amazing desserts, to the iced carrot cake, my love for Fearing's grows stronger each time I sit to partake in an adventurous meal. Fearing's is by far my favorite fine dining restaurant. But, even though its considered fine dining, it's the last thing but stuffy. ONLY FOR THE BAR: I'm giving 3 stars solely for the people watching. This is what we encountered at the Ritz on a balmy Saturday evening: 1. Plastic Surgery 2. Rude women 3. Bitches 4. Hookers 5. Expensive drinks 6. Two friendly men 7. Fierce ice-cold winds wherever you stood 8. Territorial women who would guard their barstools like mother bears It was entertaining, but the crowd was not classy. I was surprised at how trashy a lot of the women were. I think they were hookers, because they had so much makeup on, skimpy clothing, breasts on parade. And not in a classy way- almost a dirty, sweaty mangey chick way. Maybe that's just normal for downtown Dallas? Maybe it was a full moon? Maybe that's just the way of the world? At any rate, it would take a lot of bribery to get me to return. read more

On the Dallas Eater 38 List (as of 6/29/15) Located in the Ritz Carlton, Fearing's is definitely one of the most upscale/classy restaurants that I've been to in Dallas, and I'd highly recommend business casual attire at the minimum when coming for dinner. I had on my usual work outfit (shirt, jeans, Onitsuka Tigers) and felt underdressed, but no one makes you feel uncomfortable about it. I was able to make dinner reservations for a party of 3 the day of, for a Thursday night at 6:30pm. They had an event that night so the patio area was closed off, but there was no impact to the service for the dining room. Where's the flavor? Started with the tortilla soup. It was just ok. Bland. For dinner I had the wagu filet and chicken fried lobster. I substituted the loaded potatoes for jalapeño grits. Again, where is the flavor. Steak needed salt. The grits; where was the jalapeño? No heat. Just very flat. Dined at the bar. Wasn't terribly busy. Service was subpar. Uneven. The bartender admitted it wasn't the best. He wasn't terribly proficient with the menu. Seemed more interested in hobnobbing with the regulars who were greeted by their first name. Highlight was bread service. That was good. When you spend $55 for an entree it ought to be spectacular. I think I'll be back for happy hour and a dessert. Happy Birthday to me! When I was asked where I wanted to have dinner to celebrate my day, I immediately thought of Fearing's. I had such a great time during my previous visit that I had to find a good reason to return. We were seated promptly upon arrival and immediately greeted by Dean Fearing himself at our table. He was friendly and offered his feedback on several menu choices. It was really fun to actually meet the man behind the menu. Alright, let's get to the food. Good Lord it was amazing. I want to eat like this everyday! For starters I had the trio of Griddled Jumbo Lump Crabcakes, BBQ'd Duck Tamale & Two-Bite Lobster Tacos. The crabcake was good, but I think the tamale and taco were the stars on this plate. Just the right amount of spice. Had this been a full sized entree, it would have been even more perfect. Prior to our entree, the waiter provided us with a basket of dinner rolls and jalapeno cornbread muffins. The muffins were addictive and so tasty. We gulped down the first serving and had to ask for more. Mmmmmmm. Entree time. Looking for something different for my birthday, I decided on the Antelope topped with 'D1 Sauce'. It was served on a chorizo cake with a side of ranch style beans, a sweet potato/pepper mixture and onion jam. I've never tried antelope before, but the meat was so tender that it was just like eating a beef fillet. The sauce gave the meat a smokey flavor that was complimented well by the chorizo cake. My mouth is just watering now as I think about this entree. I was super stuffed by the time we received the dessert menu, but I figured it's my birthday - I have to order SOMETHING. I was going to order the banana pudding, but before I got the chance to order, our waiter brought me a chocolate cake with a candle courtesy of the restaurant. A really nice touch, but now I'll have to come back to try the pudding. Okay, twist my arm. This is a great restaurant. I don't think you can really go wrong with anything on the menu. As we arrived for our Wedding Anniversary Dinner, Fearing had me with his choice of music.....Tom Petty's "Free Fallin' " was being piped through the speakers as we were seated in the Elegant "Gallery" dining room. We listened to everything from Pink Floyd's, "Wish You Were Here" , Lynard Skynard's, "Simple Man", to Santana's " Black Magic Woman". Yeah, it was a tad odd....but, Classic Rock is our kind of music. The Gallery setting was comfortably classy. I was seated in a beautiful white leather Queen Wing Back Chair @ a table for two, in front of a gorgeous "Texas Hill Country" Painting. There was a nice note on the table wishing us a Happy Anniversary....Nice Touch! Mykle, our server, couldn't have been more attentive and friendly. His service throughout our dinner was exceptional in every way ! For starters, he brought out a bread basket filled with the best little Jalapeno Cornbread Muffins, thinly sliced Sourdough Bread and Southwest Spiced Crunchy Flat Bread. Mykle then brought over shots of Ceviche....compliments of the Chef. Delicious! Hubby then ordered Dean's South of The Border, Tortilla Soup and I ordered the Lobster Coconut Bisque with Lobster Pot Sticker & Ginger Rice. Both soups couldn't have been more different......or any better! I ordered the Comanche Buffalo Tenderloin with Maple-Black Peppercorn on Jalapeno Grits & Crispy Butternut Squash Taquito......Home Home on The Range, folks! AMAZING! Just AMAZING! My husband ordered the Pan Roasted "BBQ Spiced" Filet & Chicken Fried Maine Lobster atop "Loaded" Whipped Potatoes & Soft Spinach Taco. Texas Sweet Texas! Fearing's Touch of Southwest Flavor to Every Dish is undeniable, delectable and oh so interesting. The presentation of every dish is exquisite and leaves you anxiously anticipating your next dish! Mykle then brought out a Passion Fruit & Mango Shooter to cleanse the pallet.....although scrumptious, I really didn't want to. Our tastebuds were going crazy! We were so full but, still felt the need to order & share a dessert. Afterall, it was our Anniversary! We decided on the Texas Peach Dump Cake with Blueberry Cre'me Fri^che Ice Cream.....Good Lord Have Mercy! Scrumptious! Mykle even sent us off with a complimentary slice of Anniversary Cake for later. Our dinner/ dining experience couldn't have been more enjoyable! We cannot wait to enjoy dinner in Dean's Kitchen next time & watch all the lively Chef's in action! When the weather is a little cooler, The Ocaso Patio will be a fun place to enjoy dinner, centered around the beautiful water features & watch the Sunset on Beautiful Downtown Dallas. If you had to pick your final meal...THIS is it! Seriously the food is ridiculous and the service is just as good. My suggestion is to stick with the starter menu and make a meal out of it. Don't get me wrong, the main entrees are exceptional, but the starters are better! They have the MOST amazing: Tortilla Soup, Lobster bisque and Street Tacos. Last time we were there I couldn't decide between the lobster bisque and tortilla soup so the waiter offered a 1/2 portion of each which was brilliant. Trust me you will not be hungry and you will not be disappointed. Finally, their COFFEE is a life changing experience. There's nothing like it outside of Paris. Go during lunch and you'll have the place to yourself and probably save a few coin. Either way, just go. Wow! read more

In continuation to my wife's celebration of her birth(week)...we ventured to this ultra snooty (my previous perceived notion) high dolla hookers...etc kinda establishment. Tortilla Soup broken down. They first grill a piece of chicken breast on the mesquite wood. Cube it and add it on the bottom of a bowl with radish avocado and something else I couldn't see before our waitor dumped the liquid into the soup. Taste was full of flavours. I would come out here again for lunch just to have a bowl of this stuff in the cold weather. Scallops - the way they cooked it was very similar to my experience @ Fleur de Lys many moons ago. Although the sear marks were not there, the tenderness of the scallops and they were not overcooked. The sauce and slow cooked beef was a great compliment to the dish. Wife paired it with a NV Nicolas Feuilatte Brut Reserve Ribeye Mop - For those of you that love the phatty fat on your steak and want to taste the phat-ness cooked into your meat, don't get this. Prior to grilling the steak on mesquite wood, they cut the phat off and mop the steak with a brown sugar molasses wet rub. It, however, gives it a great coat on the outside edge, but when you get towards the center of the steak, it's kinda...eh...boring. Definitely no party in your mouth. Steak was paired with a '05 Chateau de Beaucastel. I would venture there to try the rack of lamb(s). We definitely had a great server too. Brendan was very attentive and I appreciate the descriptive-ness from Jeff...soon to be Dallas' 2nd Master Sommelier. FYI...for you single guys...go hang out at the bar. There you will see DILFS, MILFS & GILFS. Pretty much one of the above, some of the above or all of the above. Wear your real Gucci Sunglasses at night too. Go rent a Lamborghini from the rental place and drive it up to the valet...you're sure to get some ass...You'll thank me later. Absolute best experience I have had or will ever have at a restaurant. This staff is sincerely passionate about crafting a memorable experience for its patrons. My man Jeff took care of my every need and want with amiability and expertise. Ryan is a drink artist who specially crafted a concoction for me that I have dubbed The Your-Mother-Was-A-Hamster. Chef Jill made the most incredible duo of biscuits that reminded me of the childhood baking of two different sets of my grandparents (she didn't do this intentionally, but my gratitude overflows anyway). Pastry Chef Corey made a dessert that would have made my birthday amazing BY ITSELF. I had the privilege to meet them all, and they are as personable as they are creative. I have never felt so grateful to strangers. I almost forgot to mention the food! Everything was perfect. I savored every single bite of my quail starter. My buffalo entree was cooked perfectly and was probably the best meat dish I've ever had. There was not an iota of food remaining on my plates. Fearing's has a new loyal patron for life! read more

Wow, I was so disappointed. The crab cakes were too salty, the enchilada was very tough - could not cut with fork, however; the tacos were okay. We had a party of six and majority of us felt entrees were a bit pricey for quality and quantity. We had the fried pecan pies, which did not have enough pecans in the filling and the pastry tasted too starchy. A lamb dish and bourbon ice cream was the best thing we tasted. read more

I work right across the street from Fearing's, so Ferrari's (as my co-workers like to call it because of all the nice cars parked at the Ritz) is the de facto place we take clients for a business lunch. My goal is to try everything on the menu and I'll say that I'm closely getting there. I have yet to have anything on the menu that I haven't liked. _appetizer favs: lobster bisque, corn and chorizo street tacos _entree favs: nova scotia halibut and berkshire pork tenderloin. i've heard the braised short ribs are to-die-for, so that's next on my list. _dessert favs: toasted angel food cake, ice cream trio (a must have!) Like most yelpers have commented, service is very attentive but not overly pushy. If you're lucky, Dean Fearing himself will stop by and say hello to you. I've never been for dinner, but the biggest bang for your buck is at lunch, as the prices are relatively affordable vs. other business lunch spots in the area. When I choose a place to eat that has a reputation such as fearing's does, I am looking for an experience- not just great food. Fearing's was one of the best dining experiences I've ever had. I went on a Tuesday evening and the vibe at the bar entrance was lively, filled with 30 something's finishing out their work day over a cocktail- resembling a bar off Wall Street where investors get together to finish deals. But once you got past the shop talk was a bright, open dining room to enjoy your dining experience with less of a roar. The wait staff was quick to bring bread, take drink orders and answer questions. My main goal of the evening was to meet Paul, the sommelier, and have him do my wine pairings for the evening. He was wonderful, bringing glass after glass and educating me on the wines history. As for the food, it was delicious, very pleasant and flavorful. Highlight of the evening was the Flash Seared Hudson Valley Foie Gras. Best foie gras I've ever had- I promise if you thought you didn't like foie gras, try this and you will be changed. My favorite part of the dishes was that almost every entrée was a pairing of meat and seafood. This made ordering a little easier because you didn't have to decide between the two when choosing your entree. Overall, you come here for a true dining experience. From attentive service, personal interactions with the Somm to enjoy great wine paired with great food- to a lovely atmosphere, Fearing's captured what so many "fine" dining restaurants miss. It's me..not you... I had too high of expectations and was therefore set up for disappointment. The service was great, the ambiance was beautiful (look at the decor for the bathrooms-- gorgeous), but the food left something to be desired. Nothing was bad, but nothing was knock your socks off either and for 91.00 out the door for two vegetarian meals without any drinks, I expect to be wowed. First off, Yay to Fearings to having a vegetarian menu (just ask). We started off with the vegetarian tortilla soup. It was good, but not traditional. It was very tangy--with a strong vinegar taste. The hubby got the green beans and succotash -- which was highly disappointing. Overall it was incredibly bland and not that much food. This was unlike my meal-- 2 butternut squash taquitos, and two spinach enchiladas, I was able to give half my food to the hubby. The food was enjoyable, but nothing that I would go out of my way for, especially at that cost. Based on that experience I would try another one of Dallas' ritzy restaurants instead of going to the Ritz. read more

Came here several time for brunch and we always get seated pretty quickly. Love that on a Sunday because I hate having to wait. Service is always impeccable. Bloody Mary's are strong! :) food is what I expect from a restaurant like this. Oh I LOVE their bread basket. I have a hard time stopping myself from eating way too much before the food comes. Dinner (summer 2019): One of my best friends invited us out to share the news of a successful IVF after a disappointing initial attempt. I had the antelope and it was very tender and I sampled some of the chicken fried lobster and it was absolutely amazing (crunchy, buttery and well seasoned). Additionally, the lamb chop was just right: not too rare, juicy and also very tender. The sides were tasty and not too over-the-top that they were reduced to hipster eye candy. It would have been cool to have an option for mashed potatoes (I know it's a low-brow option but I still love 'em). Brunch Experience Feb 2020): My second visit was for brunch. The Jackson Campbell pancakes brought a tear to my eyes because they tasted just like my grandma's griddle crisco pancakes. The fried chicken was soooo southern homemade good! The mashed potatoes and green beans were tasty. I do wish they'd not plate the chicken atop the mashed potatoes because it makes for poor leftovers. The mini corn bread biscuits were just sweet enough. The complimentary biscuits were hard :-(. Anyway, I love the food here. We came here for Valentine's day and had a great night. Fearing's is located near the entrance of the beautiful Ritz. You can either valet or find nearby parking uptown (which can be difficult if you're not familiar with the area). We were seated promptly when we arrived 10 minutes prior to our reservation time. The waiters were all dressed in this weird rainbow-colored untucked button-down shirt, not real sure what they're going for with that outfit. They had a special prix fixe menu for Valentine's day so we ordered one of those and then ordered 3 courses off the regular menu. We tried 7 dishes, some of which we loved and some of which we weren't too fond of. They also gave us 2 different amuse-bouches, one was some type of fried oyster dish which was delicious and the other was a tomato bisque shooter which was just average. 1) Duo of seared foie gras and diver scallop gratin: This was the best course of the night and was stunning in both presentation and taste. My girlfriend was essentially having a foodgasm, embarrassing us both! (j/k about that last part) Both the foie and scallops were perfectly cooked with great texture and flavor. It's worth every penny and I would come back for this dish alone. 2) Wagyu beef strip loin with green beans and foie gras/black truffle hollandaise: This was perfectly cooked to medium rare with a beautiful sauce. The beef was both flavorful and tender. Definitely the highlight of the V-day special menu. 3) Double chocolate strawberry parfait: They were kind enough to give us a dessert plate for both of us even though we had told them we could just share one. This was definitely the better of the 2 desserts (the passion fruit cupcake was just average) and we both devoured it. A perfect ending to a great meal. 4) Maple/black peppercorn buffalo tenderloin: This had a great gamey taste and though cooked well, it ate a bit dry and could have used more sauce. There was a lot of stuff on the plate including some sort of weird enchilada or taquito, which felt out of place. Overall, the buffalo was tasty but the dish was a bit disjointed. 5) Fettuccine with lobster: The lobster was good but I think they skimped a bit. A bit more lobster meat would have made the dish a lot better. The pasta also ate a bit too dry and some more sauce would have likely made the dish better. 6) Sampler of crab cake, short rib enchilada and bite-size lobster taco: I thought the lobster taco was the best of the 3. The crab cake was just OK but nothing that stands out; this is coming from someone who has eaten a lot of crab cakes around the country. The short rib enchilada was extremely heavy and over-seasoned. It contrasted well with the light lobster taco but I definitely had to reach for my water glass after eating this. 7) Artichoke bisque with caviar: This was average at best. Maybe it just wasn't my thing, but I've definitely tasted a lot better soups. This was the one dish that we left unfinished. Overall, this was a great meal even if a bit inconsistent. Fearing's is relatively pricey even for fine dining restaurants so expect to pay a pretty penny for the meal. read more

I am giving Fearing's 4 stars primarily because of the service. I don't think the food quite lived up to the restaurant's reputation. This isn't to say the food wasn't good, it was very good. But, I had heard from more than one person that this was THE place to eat a steak in Dallas. Also, given the price, I was expecting more. Perhaps it was built up too much. But, like I said, the food was very good, 3 star worthy, so let's get into it. We had reservations for 7:30 on a Saturday night. We arrived a little early and had a drink at the bar. Our table was ready right on time. We were immediately approached by a server to take drink orders. When we told him we were interested in having some wine, he sent the sommelier over. We dealt with him a few times during the evening, he was fantastic, had great recommendations, and was friendly. He added a lot to our experience, he's an asset to the restaurant. We started with the crispy BBQ bluepoint oysters and the appetizer sampler. The oyster was large and the breading was thin and seasoned well. It had bacon, which is never a bad thing. The appetizer sampler comes with 2 small crabcakes, 2 small lobster tacos with avocado relish, and a BBQ short rib enchilada. There were three of us dining, so it was annoying to find the size of the appetizer. We felt like the server should have warned us that it was a small sampler, so we could have ordered a second. So, we had to cut the enchilada into thirds, and cut the crabcakes and tacos in half. Of the appetizers, the crabcake was the best. It was sufficiently crispy and had a lot of crab, but wasn't overly cakey. The worst was the lobster taco. I wouldn't order this appetizer again. To eat, I had the ribeye, which is served with corn bread pudding, crispy fried asparagus, and topped with mop sauce, which is basically a thin molasses based BBQ sauce. The corn bread pudding was served in a cast iron skillet which kept the dish hot the entire meal. But, it also burned the bottom. The dish was nice and sweet, it was liked by all at the table, except for the burnt pieces. The asparagus was fried crispy, and cooked perfectly. It still had some snap, but wasn't overcooked. The steak was good, but it was just that: good. It wasn't a $58 steak, which is what the dish cost. The mop sauce was all over the steak. I probably should have asked for it on the side, as I like to taste the beef, I usually don't use sauces. This mop sauce was classic in flavor, but it didn't add to the steak. It overpowered the steak. Again, I should have asked for it on the side. My dining companions each ordered the chicken fried lobster, and I was given a sample. This was good, the lobster kept its succulence, so it wasn't overcooked. The breading was crispy and adhered well to the lobster. This was a delicious dish, I regretted not getting it. We had some dessert wine after our meal, which meant another visit from the somm. More great recommendations after our meal. Also, as many diners note, Dean Fearing walks around the dining room and stops by each table. He was super friendly and talked with us about each dish. Not only what we ordered, but why he constructed the dish. That was very interesting. It was great talking with him. Overall, I enjoyed the evening and would return. But, like I said, I don't think it lived up to its considerable hype. read more

We had a delicious meal! Everything we ordered was fantastic except for the fish. Four stars only because of the price. The prices for these meals are insanely high for the dishes you get (the only thing that seemed to be accurately priced was the steak which was VERY good). I assume they're this way because of the celebrity chef status. The service was also kind of... awkward? The waiters just stood around our table for a while before refilling glasses or taking away dishes. If you have some money to blow definitely check this place out. read more

After trying 560, Eddie V's, Nobu, and many other fine dinning places. The gf and I finally arrived at Fearings, a classy restaurant featuring a James beard award winner situated inside the ritz-Carlton. The place is less formal than one thinks, business casual dress will fit you right in. For appetizer, we had the Texas carpaccio. Very well season and balanced carpaccio, even goes well with the assortment of breads that is complimentary. This dish made the meal. I had the Texas version of surf and turf, featuring a nice 8 oz filet and a chicken-fried lobster. Yes that's chicken-fried lobster. I thought it was crazy at first, but the lobster is actually really well balanced. The lobster kept its texture while the light breading made it subtle. The steak was well executed and the mash and pickled veggie on top was great. But there was one caveat which knocked this place down to 4 stars from a 5 star experience. The plate had a taquito on it. Wtf?!!!?? The chicken frying of the lobster was just on this side of the line, but the taquito on the dish seriously threw the entire dish off balance. The gf had the Thai-inspired snapper and pork belly. She felt the dish was a little off-balance as well. The pork belly, rice, and papaya was so tasty that once she got to the snapper, she didn't want to eat it anymore... I thought that dish was very good, but after tasting the taquito from my dish I just could not get over how bad it was... The desserts was definitely a stand out. With the banana pudding leading the way. I would say the raspberry almond buckle was too tamed compared to the rest of the menu. And I'm going to come back for the toffee cake. read more

Had dinner last night for the 3'rd or 4'th time at Fearings. As aways food and service were great. Last evening was especially nice due to two of the staff assisting us. Candace Hughes was our server and Paul Bolemer our sommelier. Both were excellent and went out of their way to make our evening enjoyable. Most notable was Paul's attention to our wine selection which Candace had assisted with. On two separate occasions Paul provided "tastings" of wines that he thought would complement our individual meal choices. Both of course at no charge other than our opinion and enjoyment. I had dinner at Fearings, and it was lovely! It's in the Ritz Carlton and it's dim-lit. The amuse bouche was very light and tasted wonderful. The soup was delicious and they pour it in for you. The salad was seasoned very nicely. The bbq shrimp taco was very nice. I love how the chef comes to the table and welcomes you. The steak was really tasty as well. And the service is very efficient. We went this Sunday for our anniversary and it was spectacular. We had the 3 course brunch the "whole enchilada". My husband had the quail appetizer and I had the caeser salad that was not simple in any way! Delicious with pomegranate seeds and medley tomatoes with miniature croutons. Then my husband thoroughly enjoyed the eggs Benedict Fearing style. I had the salmon with blueberries with brocolini. Order the bread basket....it's miniature morsels. We then had the coconut cream pie with sorbet. Fearing's treated us to 2 glasses of Champagne and a lovely chocolate mouse cake with miniature macaroons! So special. We married 20 years ago at Fearings other restaurant in the other hotel:) My husbands from Louisville like Dean so we always hit this place up for special dates and family get together. They just do it Right! Thank you to the cooks, staff and Matre D for our 11:30 reservation being like the Kentucky Derby. If you can't win big here, just got home! :) read more

Fabulous dining experience from a personal greeting by Chef Dean as soon as we were seated to amazing food and service. We started with the Lobster Coconut Bisque with Crispy Calamari and Sizzling Rice and it was fantastic. It was creamy but I was told by one of the waiters that it was made with soy milk instead of cream so it was super light and he was right. Although, it was light, the generous portion was quite filling. Hubs had the special appetizer for the day which was a salmon spring roll (delicious!) with an egg that was poached for 4 hours. Not runny but so soft that it could have been. I decided on the Hibiscus Honey Glazed Bay of Fundy Salmon on Lobster/Potato/Pine Nut 'Risotto' with Crispy Broccolini and Tomato Bruschetta Quenelle. I generally never order Salmon when I'm out because it's almost always overcooked. This was cooked to perfection. The dish was light and the 'Risotto' was a perfect complement. Hubs got the Broken Arrow Ranch NilGai Antelope Glazed with D1 Sauce on Poblano/Pepita Pesto with East Texas Field Peas, Heirloom Tomatoes, Brazos Valley Feta Cheese and Sweet Onion Rings and it had the texture of a game meat without tasting that way. We finished it off with Warm Blueberry Crisp with Fried Lemon Pies and Crème Fraîche Ice Cream which was amazing. My favorite was the Fried Lemon Pies. Piping hot and tart. Who would have thought blueberry and lemon went so well together?! Since we were celebrating our anniversary, the pastry chef sent over a complimentary Italian Wedding Cake. If I could do it all over again, I would have served this Italian Wedding Cake at my wedding. BTW - valet parking is free (tip of course!) and everyone we met including the Ritz Carlton staff were friendly and helpful. We didn't make reservations but walked in at 6:30 on a Thursday evening and were immediately seated. It started to really fill up an hour or so later so I would recommend making reservations if you plan on dining later or dining there on the weekend. read more

Spectacular. Last night was our 2nd time to visit in last few weeks. Food was amazing first time and as good or better this time. Jenny and I split the Lone Star Mosaic appetizer and practically licked the platter. We also split the filet with chicken fried Maine lobster. Both were cooked perfectly. Amazing sides of grilled asparagus and totally kick-ass crispy duck fat tater tots. Jenny had Dean's signature margaita and I had a martini. We sat in bar area due to limited COVID seating but it was super comfortable and great for people watching. As great as the food and atmosphere is, the service is what makes this a 5 star event. Last night Emma and Noie went out of their way to exceed every need and couldn't have been nicer. On our first visit we even had Dean come by to wish Jenny a happy birthday. We will return soon as possible. The live jazz outside on patio is something we especially want to get back for as soon as possible! read more

Really enjoyed this restaurant. We had a gift for a free dinner for 2 here, so we ended up exploring the menu. Parking here is easy - valet is a must, and it's just $5 plus a small tip. Come early and enjoy happy hour in the lobby bar, and the happy hour prices are actually quite reasonable. The City Slicker was a delicious take on a mule. The service was, as you'd expect at a place like this, pretty impeccable. The two of us had two waiters and they could almost be accused of hovering, fixing your napkin if you excuse yourself and never letting your glass get more than half empty. You start with bread and butter. The beer bread was by far the better of the two types. I started with the BBQ quail appetizer and ate everything on the plate. It came with creamed corn, pork belly, fried green tomatoes, and grilled peaches. I don't love fried green tomatoes anyways, but the only downside was that the peaches didn't have a whole lot of flavor - Fearings is subject to the peach crop like the rest of us. My wife started with the sampler appetizer. Grilled crab cakes, short rib enchilada, queso fundido, jicama salad, and lobster tacos. She really enjoyed everything and I had part of the enchilada, but this was a very large appetizer! Would have been plenty shared between two. My wife had the prime filet and fried lobster main course. Also came with whipped potatoes and a small spinach taco. Another enormous entree - not something you always expect at fine restaurants! She couldn't even begin to finish it all but some of it came home with us and was good the next day. I ordered my entree off the Butcher Block menu and had a more manageable size. I had the Wagyu 6oz tenderloin, which was exquisite, with a cognac peppercorn demiglaze and asparagus. Couldn't decide whether it was more delicious with or without the demi. The asparagus was also very generous and perfectly cooked. For desserts, we ordered two. Banana pudding with meringue, warm beignets, and banana ice cream was a great choice - not too filling but really flavorful and decadent. Chocolate hazelnut crunch with chocolate shortbread, mousse, and Nutella ice cream was also excellent and again quite large. Beautiful restaurant! One of my favorite restaurants in DFW. Each dish we have eaten at this restaurant has always been so consistently delicious and bursting with flavor. I had the halibut which was amazing! it is my favorite dish there- the fish was so soft and tasted so fresh. I tried but failed to finish the dish because I didn't want to waste a bit of it. We had a deconstructed pecan pie a la mode for dessert- perfection. Chef Fearing comes by to check how your meal is and is so gracious and kind. It was a beautiful experience. read more

Constantly refilling drinks Food- if you go in thinking this is a steakhouse, I think you'll be disappointed. There are better steakhouses in town. If you think this place is an American restaurant than you'll be less disappointed. I got the 4-6 oz filet with fried lobsters and whipped potatoes. Lobster was pretty good, steak was good. But it wasn't life changing. I wouldn't ever crave this steak over del Frisco or nick and sams. Dessert -banana pudding, best part of the Meal. Also they have a lot of "extras" when you dine there. Once you get inside the seating area, the service is amazing! But even if you have a reservation, they might make you wait...like 45 minutes. But the food and service was amazing! I think three waiters attended our table while we ate, and Chef Fearing dropped by our table twice. The shrimp taco for an appetizer was great, and my salmon was just perfect.
