This place is all around amazing. They have an adorable outdoor bar area that is perfect for a pre or post dinner cocktail! The staff is friendly and very attentive! We had Andrew as our main server, and he was the best! The food is to die for. I started with the lobster bisque, and it was one of the best I've had! The hint of coconut was unexpected and very delicious. I had the filet and chicken fried lobster as my meal, and it did not disappoint! It's ordinary good service where they keep your drinks filled. I love good food. I've traveled to other countries just to eat. If a restaurant prices itself at a high level I figure it's safe to assume that you're paying for both a dining experience and delicious food. My experience at Fearings last night was lackluster. Now, if dinner had been maybe 50% less expensive I still wouldn't have enjoyed my food any more, but I wouldn't feel taken advantage of. I ordered the Antilope with the rabbit enchiladas. I've never had Antilope before and wanted to try something new. I love rabbit and was definitely excited for that. My wife ordered the scallops with the pesto pasta and mushrooms. Our order took an abnormally long amount of time to get to us. We polished off our starters so long before our entrees came out that it left our group with an uncomfortably long gap before we got to eat. When the food got to us many of our plates were very very hot. Suggesting they were left under warmers for a long time. Not something I would've expected from a restaurant like this. The entrees were a big letdown. The antelope was not good. Yes, the meat was very lean and had a very distinct taste to it, but that's not the problem. It just wasn't cooked well. The outside of the meat was grey and the cut was bland. There were some sauces on the plate that helped it some but the dish never took off for me. Everything was just lukewarm too. You could've sold the rabbit enchiladas as shredded chicken enchiladas with no seasoning and I wouldn't have questioned it. My wife's pasta was over cooked. Pasta should have a nice bite to it. The pesto was nothing out of the ordinary either. The scallops were beautifully done tho. Dinner started out nice, with the valet service being friendly and attentive, but that was pretty much it. Fine dining at this price point is so much more than just small portions. It should be an opportunity to try new things, experience new flavors, really get an idea of what the chef is trying to showcase for the guests, but first and foremost the meal should be delicious, right? Wow! We went for Valentines Day and absolutely loved the entire course meals. From the appetizer to drinks and dessert, everything was phenomenal. Let me begin by saying I love Fearings. But I have to admit, I had the Christmas Tea at Fearings towards the end of December 2022 and it was probably the worst Afternoon Tea I've ever had. I don't even know where to begin (but I'll try). Tea was not served in pots at all, and cups were almost never refilled. And when the tea was served, it was lukewarm at best. The tea service was not provided in order with scones and desserts coming before the sandwiches. That would've been somewhat acceptable, but the all of the food was quite ordinary. I think I paid around $80 or so for the Afternoon Tea and - again - it was a complete waste of money. Glad I did it in 2022 so that I know to skip it moving forward. Please, please, please - if you're going to have a Christmas Afternoon Tea, try to make it festive and serve some good nibbles along with hot tea. read more

I love trying new restaurants and my husband chose Fearing's for an early Valentine's Day dinner for the two of us. When we arrived, we were seated at a booth at the very end of the restaurant near the kitchen and staff. The table was off by itself and I did not like how it made me feel. My husband told me he had asked for a table for two for a romantic date night but the atmosphere wasn't romantic at all. The waiter had come by to introduce himself and I had to have him repeat himself because I couldn't hear him over kitchen and staff chatter. I had asked the waiter for a different table (we were literally 1 of 2 tables in the room where we were seated) and he gave me like 2 other table options that were also less than ideal. The waiter appeared annoyed and was not pleasant. So, I went to the front and asked to be reseated. We were then escorted to a different section of the restaurant that was quaint with dim lighting and much quieter. I appreciated the accommodation as the new table was more conducive for a date. I did notice the different table set ups. Most tables in the room had a sofa on one side and 2 chairs on the other. That would've been very nice for a date night but we had a normal 4 top. I ordered the flaming tamarindo for a drink and loved the presentation. It was brought to the table with flames on top of an orange peel then dunked into the drink when set on the table. I had the lobster bisque and my husband had the Caesar salad for starters. The lobster bisque was amazing! My husband wasn't a fan of the salad but I thought it was interesting and had a nice kick for a Caesar salad. It had a smoky taste to it that I liked. I was annoyed that it took our dinner so long to be served after our starters. The table next to us arrived 15 mins after we did and got their food before us. My husband and I both got a filet and there was nothing special that differentiated the steak from other filets I've had. I ordered mine medium and my husband ordered his medium well. They were both under cooked. Mine was medium rare and his ended up medium. It wasn't a big deal, as long as they weren't rare or well. The presentation of the steaks left much to be desired... very plain. The duck fat tater tot that came with the steak was spot on! It reminded me of the duck fat fries at Strip Steak in Vegas. I ordered asparagus as a side and wasn't pleased. It tasted like straight smoke and was soggy and over cooked. My husband had the potatoes and they were delicious! The best part about the dinner was dessert. I love banana pudding and this pudding was the best I've ever had! The beignet, ice cream, caramel sauce and pudding all went together nicely. One of the things I did enjoy is that Chef Dean came and greeted us at our table, very personable. If we do return to Fearing's, we'll most likely visit the bar for drinks and dessert. read more

There are some great restaurants in the part of town. Del Frisco, Ocean Prime, Capital Grill, NoBu and many others. There is no reason for anyone to choose Fearing's I chose Fearing's for our place to celebrate our wedding anniversary. I had read some good reviews and felt it would be up beat and fun (51 years!). I called the restaurant to make the arrangements and spoke with Rebekah (or Rebecca). I explained to her that we were celebrating our 51st and she was moved to tell me how much she admires committed couples and shared that she hoped to find such a match. It was a very nice conversation that made me feel my requests would be fulfilled. Unfortunately, that was not the case. We went to the restaurant early so we could sit in the lively bar and enjoy being around young people having fun. Our time in the bar was just what we wanted and we felt we were off to a good start for our special night. I asked the cocktail waitress to inform the host that we were in the bar whenever our table was prepared. She did and reported it would be another 15 minutes. Perfect! (Not so fast) When we were escorted to our table (by the very same Rebekah) it was exactly adjacent to the pass line (where waiters collect the food to be served). I had requested a quiet table in the center room. I told Rebekah this was not close to the table we had discussed on the phone. She could not remember the conversation and said "there are no special requests on your reservation"! What! She was sorry but the center room was full. It would be another 30 minutes for them to secure a table. She did not remember our lovely conversation and did not note my special requests on the reservation. We left and went to Ocean Prime and had a fabulous meal. I recommend it. Save yourself some grief and support one if the restaurants that deserve it. Really attentive service but I wasn't completely floored by the food. I definitely appreciated the twist on the dishes though. It was also nice that Dean Fearing himself came out to table to table to say Hi! Nicole L & I tried: *Bread: Jalapeno everything ! I loved the kick though. There was a pretzel bread/baguette hybrid that I was also a fan of. *Complementary Butternut Squash Gazpacho-esque shooter: Hmmm..very bold flavors and interesting execution. And must be "shot" 'cause otherwise the sweet, lemon-y and spicy flavors would become too saturated. *Duo of Flash Seared Hudson Valley Foie Gras (on Pistachio Butter with Texas Fig Jam and Warm Oxtail Tart with Maine Lobster and Petit Greens) - This was the first time I've Foie Gras and I love fig so it was definitely a great first experience. The tart itself was quite flaky & buttery. Yum. *Smoked Pecan Crusted Nova Scotia Halibut (on Three Bean/Sweet Corn Succotash with Crispy Pork and Green Tomato/Sage Gravy): We split this entree and they were nice enough to bring out two separate plates for us. I've never had any seafood pecan crusted and I definitely enjoyed the texture. Beyond the crust though, the halibut itself was a weebit dry but nothing the gravy didn't fix. Was really excited about dining at Fearing's and had high expectations and had heard great things about the restaurant so, made a reservation for my birthday. Restaurant is in the Ritz and is a gorgeous location, our bartender Ryan was fantastic. Our service at dinner was also very good. Dinner however was a whole different story, my wife ordered the "wagyu" style steak, which ended up having no marabelization and was tough and chewy. The steak was pretty average quality for the over $80 price. I ordered the chicken fried lobster, which was great taste wise, but rubbery and just seemed over cooked. Dessert was outstanding, the blueberry pies and peach cobbler were some of the best dessert dishes I have ever had. At this point in the night it was an average meal, with great service and dessert, 3 maybe 4 stars. However, it went down hill. Shortly after arriving home I started feeling terrible, but shrugged it off to over indulging. Sadly it was not over indulgence, but instead was food poisoning and I spent the next several hours of the night vomiting up the above mentioned food. I gave the restaurant a call the next morning to let them know, as I figured they would want to be aware. I was told the manager was busy, so gave them my info and what happened. No apology when I told them what happened and the manager never bothered to even call back. If the dinner had just been average it would have been fine, I enjoyed the service and atmosphere. However, to get average food, food poisoning, and not so much as even a returned call, after a nearly $400 tab for dinner. Well, that is 1 star at best, or maybe even zero. This was my first visit to Fearing's and it was a fabulous experience. The staff was welcoming and very attentive. I started with the tortilla soup and I think it was the best version I've ever had. I followed with the antelope for the main course. Outstanding. Moist, tender, and expertly flavored with southwest seasoning. I added a delicious lobster Mac and cheese on the side. I should have known better, but I had to try the banana pudding. It was excellent but I had to raise the white flag after having only half of it. No more room. My servers were very professional -- attentive without hovering over me. This meal was definitely one of the best I've had in recent memory. Lunch Review: Ok, our bad for going in for Lunch but food was just about as bad or as good as what I would get for half or third the price. Lets get the deets: We started with crab cakes and napa valley cab, which were both fabulous and we were off to a great start. Things were about to take a turn though. Main-course- we got the burger and the butter chicken. Both were very average, burger a tad dry and butter chicken was more of a mish-mash of just warmed up frozen bag of veggies haphazardly thrown into half heartedly cooked chicken curry. Fries were soft to the touch and naan was partly stale. Dessert was our hope to claw out of the hole we dug for our supposed birthday lunch. But holy moly, all we got was a very stale hazelnut chocolate cake slice that had sat in the fridge somewhere for about a week(likely 2), and we sent it back. Well what a great decision I made choosing Fearings for a last minute lunch! I was in town on business for the day from Houston and am beyond happy I made it here. The chicken fried lobster and wagyu filet stole my heart (price point included). The lobster was gently battered and fried, from what I would guess had to be under a minute as it was still incredibly sweet & succulent. The wagyu was a proper cut and seasoned slightly, cooked perfect med-rare. Appetizer of blue crab and Uni tasters was also on point and had a bliss balance between pure umami and sweetness. This restaurant has been our special occasion spot for a few years and has always been fabulous. Tonight was not a good experience. The service was terribly slow and very inattentive. Often drink glasses were unattended, they didn't bring serving utensils with our sharable sides and we had to ask twice for a dessert we ordered. Two other desserts came but one was missing and didn't come until everyone else had finished. Definitely not a pleasant experience for the price. The food was good but was just ok. Ordered the special 30 day dry aged steak but it came out medium well instead of medium rare. The flavor was fine but not the way I prefer my steak. The other food was good but not great as we have had in the past. I hope this was just a bad night and not becoming the norm. read more

Last Sunday, our friends planned an intimate brunch and Fearings at the Ritz was the obvious choice. I have always wanted to come here but never had the opportunity since it's a little pricier than your average restaurant. So needless to say, I was beyond excited that we'd able to try out this restaurant. As we arrived, I was greeted by two large wooden door that opened to a large atrium filed with granite floors, wooden tables adorned with glass vases and colorful fresh flowers. The lighting of the interior is dark and sexy. You can already tell this would one of those exceptionally positive and elegant experience even before it ever began. One we entered the restaurant, the first point of contact is the Fearing's bar which is magnificent in all aspects. Tall ceilings, mirrors on the walls accented by rich leather and dark woods gave you that cozy opulent feeling. We hung out there for about 30 minutes enjoying cocktails as our table were being prepared. I ordered the house sparkling rosé which was excellent, followed by a mango sangria. Both excellent choices for brunch cocktails as they were simple and not too sweet. The sangria however was my favorite! Shortly later, the hostess greeted the group and informed us that our table is ready. She led us down a narrow hallway which opened up to the main dining room and then on to our table which is in a private dinning room surrounded by walls filled with wine bottles. We had two excellent servers who each gave us their introduction of the menu and proceeded to take our orders. I ordered the "Granny Fearing's Paper Bag Shook Fried Chicken" for my entree and "Warm Buttermilk Doughnut Holes" for the appetizer. The menu was small but offer a variety of very distinctive dishes depending on your tastes and mood. I was taken a back although the menu was impressive, it was lacking the costs of the courses offered. People like to know those things, I know I do! As the dishes arrived, i wasted no time trying the donut holes served with mini sausages. My take on the appetizers is that it's mediocre, nothing to write home about. The entree however, did not disappoint. In fact, it was one of the best fried chicken dish i've yet to experience. The skin is crunchy whereas the meat is juicy and tender. The mash potatoes and sautéed green beans served as the platform for the fried chicken. The combination of the two made the entree extraordinary! Our servers, there were two of them were attentive, cordial and provided outstanding customer service. I never had to ask for anything which is nice and appreciated. They made sure our table was tended to and was professional thoughout. Overall, great experience! Food is delicious, ambiance is lovely. I particularly liked that there are warm towels in the men's bathroom and thought the use of curtains to separate walls adds drama. After getting thru the hurtle of having the valet actually park a truck - they refused twice to even take the truck and park it and there is NO public parking around the Ritz lot. (Heaven forbid a Texas drives a NORMAL sized truck!) The valet is $15 to park while you eat- fyi - and there is no parking validation. You might as well park down the street and Uber - it's cheaper. The food was good but overpriced for the portion sizes. Was it delicious yes but after having to argue about the parking situation and then coming in flustered for a VERY expensive meal it all just fell flat. Honestly after looking forward to this meal all week and hearing such great things about the chef and experience it just did not even come close to hitting the mark for such an expensive meal and the amount of hassel it was to get that meal. This place deserves a glowing recommendation for many reasons! I am dismayed by all the restaurants in Dallas who now thinks it's acceptable to have their wait staff not wear masks (so I'm just supposed to trust that they are vaccinated against COVID? No thanks) so when I called ahead and heard they still require staff to mask regardless of vaccination status I was thrilled to make a reservation. The restaurant is located in the beautiful Ritz Carlton and the ambiance is classy and sophisticated. As advertised, staff were wearing masks so we felt safe. We were there on a Thursday night and I'm so glad we made reservations because it was very busy. Our waiter was professional and checked on us multiple times to make sure we had water and see if we needed anything. The menu is pricey, but the food was very good. To start, they had a delicious selection of bread pre-meal including this bacon bread, which was unique. They also brought out a tortilla soup prior to our food. I ordered the sampler, which included a short rib enchilada, crab cakes and lobster tacos. The enchilada was probably the best one I've ever had and the crab cakes were phenomenal. My husband ordered the Buffalo, which he liked. We also shared their salad with pomegranate, which was delicious. We ended with the banana pudding and beignets, which were divine! Much closer to a 3.5 for ambiance and service. Both were extraordinary. Dean comes to greet you himself at the beginning and ending of your meal. I didn't do research in advance, so silly me expected a steakhouse. While you can get steak, I'd probably recommend one of their southwest specialties. When my mom's red snapper came out, I could have grabbed it right out of her hands it looked so good. I personally was not in the mood for a southwestern dish or rare cut of meat, so I opted for a Texas wagyu. Really interesting option - tasted like wagyu with much less visible fat. But if you're expecting a traditional steak, note, this cut is much more flavorful. We ordered a smattering of starters as well. They were all good, but didn't stand out. Oysters, hamachi, and tartare. The tartare boasted a truffle sauce, but really had more of a spicy sriracha flavor. Overall, it was nice to get uptown Dallas, and enjoy the swankiness that is the Ritz. The food was enjoyable, but the experience and hospitality really made this a memorable dinner. read more

This place is incredible. It goes without saying because of their Michelin rating. We opted for the cold smoked pheasant and the red snapper. Its not a dinner, its a food experience. The textures and the complimenting flavors of even the simplest portion of the meal had a note to play. Even the little tasters they bring around before the meal have their own effect. Fearing's is one of the best (if not the best) restaurant in Dallas! You definitely pay for it though. I have been for lunch and dinner and have enjoyed both. The lunch atmosphere is very business oriented with almost everyone walking or driving from their nearby downtown offices. The meal always begins with a breadbasket with smokey butter and homemade cornbread and rolls. For lunch, I would recommend the Rattlesnake Burger. It was absolutely AMAZING. One of the best burgers I have EVER had. It was perfectly medium-rare with Dean's special sauce, caramelized onions, limp/uncrispy bacon, and fresh cabbage for an added little crunch. Be warned, it is very messy! I might recommend you asking for them to cut it in half in the kitchen. Unfortunately, the side of fries that comes with the burger were not great. They were under cooked and the seasoning tasted off, however, the burger was so good that I would 100% get it again. If you don't want something as messy as the burger, I would do the cobb salad with chicken-fried lobster (the chicken fried lobster is the house specialty during dinner.) I would also recommend the tortilla soup, which is another classic. The soup comes out in a bowl with the dry ingredients and the server pours the broth over the dry ingredients. It definitely is not my favorite Tortilla Soup, but it is a fun process to watch and pretty unique to Fearings. If you go for dinner, the chicken-friend lobster is the way to go. It is what Fearing's is undoubtedly known for, and it is absolutely delicious! I would also recommend starting with the tortilla soup. Went with colleagues in town from the North who wanted a fun dining experience. It was a nice evening seated at a big high table next to the kitchen. I'm from Dallas and would not ordinarily eat here because it's a bit frou frou and draws pretentious folks, tourists, and wanna bees. However, if you want to bask in Dallas "la la," this is the place. Frankly, I don't think the really "rich" eat here. I can't say enough good things about the waitstaff. They were great and on it, and sitting next to the kitchen impressed me at how hard these folks work. Wow, such stamina. The presentation was gorgeous. The portions are reasonable, but this is an expensive restaurant. Everyone else in the youngish crowd liked the food. I thought it was average and too salty. Pretty but over seasoned. I am of an older generation, however, that cooks from scratch and knows how good food should taste. I salt and taste and salt and taste. Not that impressed. For a quarter of the price, I had a much better meal last week in Richardson's china town. But also a quarter of the ambience and presentation. read more

The quality of the meats are excellent - and it is especially appreciated in the beef carpaccio. We also enjoyed the rare offering of Nil Gai Antelope. This was my fourth visit to this restaurant, I ordered the same item all 4 times, the buffalo tenderloin entrée. On the previous three visits, I would have given this 5/5 stars, on the fourth visit my entrée was dry, tasted like it had been microwaved. On the previous three visits, the chef owner was out walking in the hall chatting with guests, and definitely keeping the kitchen staff on their toes, he was not present on my fourth visit. Fearing's Restaurant - Buffalo tenderloin entrée - New American Near Me - Dallas, Texas

We were looking for a Special Occasion type of place for our visit to Dallas, and Fearing's seemed to fit the bill. The restaurant was pretty empty, but it was Super Bowl Sunday and I hate football, so I'm just glad they were open. Whether it was the day or just standard operating procedure, the service we received was just the right kind of formal. This isn't white tablecloth fine dining, but it's still very mindful cooking, and the atmosphere of the restaurant captures that very well. You can still indulge if you desire. We did, beginning with a foie gras appetizer that used pears to mitigate some of the more undesirable notes of the liver. And though my appetizer was the vegetarian entree, it was adorned with a healthy shaving of truffle, too. Sure, perhaps the vegetable stew - surrounding a sunken piece of fried cheese - might not have been totally worth the price tag that rivaled the heartier meat entrees, nor were the truffles used the most aromatic (the wood ear mushroom included as part of the stew were much more effective at imparting savory and meaty flavors), but I still enjoyed it. At the end of the night we were set off with a little gift of a very nice macaron to remind us of the night we had. It was the nicest meal we had in Dallas, and a very good showcase for fine dining in this part of the country. read more

I felt terrible for our server. A 4 top with a celiac, a pescatarian, a shellfish allergy and an indecisive group. It was not an easy table to serve and they handled it with grace and ease. The knowledge of the menu by our server was incredible. Cons: there was some initial confusion with bread service. We were told by the individual who brought bread service that an item was gluten free. It was not. One bite in - I knew a terrible mistake was made. Our server immediately took actions and corrected the situation. He could not have handled it better but it was an unfortunate event none the less. Note: they will provide gluten free bread if available. If not, they will serve chips and salsa. The second con - the fried Brussels sprouts were undercooked. Pros: Everything else. Handled modifications without hesitation. Antelope was amazing. The duck tater tots were a close second. The creme brûlée was the rockstar of the dessert round but we sampled the flourless chocolate cake, banana bread pudding and baklava as well. Tip: The vegetarian menu is fantastic. We ordered jackfruit tacos and the southwest sampler. Even if you don't have a vegetarian, request a menu and browse. We would not hesitate to order any of our dishes again with the exception of the brussel sprouts. Overall, very impressed and will be back again. read more

We had a fabulous Thanksgiving dinner thanks to Fearings! The wait staff timed it out perfectly so we didn't feel rushed but it didn't drag on as well. First course I had the butternut squash soup and I think that was my favorite thing that night! Main course I had the turkey of course, and it came with whipped potatoes, green beans, salsify, jalapeño cranberry sauce, and tortilla stuffing. I had to take half of it home because the portion size was large but it makes great leftovers. Dessert was a sampler of pumpkin pie cheesecake, apple tart, and pecan bourbon trifle. Great way to end the meal. I definitely recommend Fearings for a special occasion like Thanksgiving. They know how to do it up well! read more

We went here for a special occasion to try their vegetarian menu, an inventive Southwestern style vegetarian menu with plenty of options to leave any vegetarian happy. Chef Dean Fearing stopped by our table to make sure we were doing well, which was a great gesture. We started with the elote Style Street Tacos, and moved on to the Mexican Sampler (which is a serious amount of food), though there were other things I was interested in trying so I'll be back. The vegetarian cocktail was tasty, but a little on the vegetal side. The bar looked respectable, but the server was unfamiliar with the concept of a daquiri that didn't involve some kind of sugary frozen concoction. All in all, the food was stellar, and I'll definitely be coming back to try out more of this menu. Another good high end special occasion place for a vegetarian in Dallas. read more

We visited Fearing's as guests of our client during a visit to Dallas. The food was awesome; my favorite is the buffalo tenderloin but all of our appetizers and salads were excellent too. The menu is definitely appropriate for a fine dining establishment. The major issue here is the service, with several miscues that necessitated reordering items and also inattention to service needs. Being a captive restaurant inside the Ritz-Carlton, I expect a lot more. It may have been an off night, but the food was so good I would definitely give it a try again. read more

First time to eat in any of this pioneer southwestern chefs restaurant and did not disappoint. Superb service from start to finish. Everything was outstanding. Appetizers of lobster taco, crab cake and short rib enchilada were Devine. I ordered antelope with mole sauce, rabbit enchiladas and side of duck fat tater tots. All very good, just gator tots a little bland. My wife ordered wagyu New York strip which melted in your mouth. For dessert, I ordered the banana pudding with beignets. Pudding very good, just maybe a little too much meringue on top. My wife had the fried chocolate pecan pie ala mode which was also very good. read more
