I had the Korean tacos - they were tasty although tasted somewhat like liquid smoke. My husband had the spicy chicken burger and it was $23 which at that price could cover all our kid meals at Red Robin style restaurant. Kids meals were $7 - fine for burgers and fries and fruit but pricey for spaghetti ... I would say it would be ok - probably won't be back - it was over $70 for us to eat - we had four kids meals at $7/ea and my $14 tacos - you do the math for the rest. I just loved my visit to Fenton and eating at the Fire Hall. We both love BBQ and this place definitely knows how to serve it up! Believe it or not, BBQ can be a tricky thing to get right. I've had my fair share of places claiming to be great, but often times the meat can come out dry. This was not the case with Fenton Fire BBQ...it was finger licking good and I don't even like to lick my fingers or get messy when eating, but this BBQ was worth all the mess! lol I love the decor of the Fire House, too. Cool spot, but poor food. We had the seasonal butternut squash risotto and brisket. It was a very small portion for $27 worth of brisket, and the risotto was extremely dry, full of breadcrumbs, with cubed squash that was not baked fully. Service was very good, we were seated immediately, although if I knew they have a roof top patio I would of waited to sit up there. My sandwich was spicy! Mac and cheese was super flavorful, my son (super picky eater) eat almost all of them, my husband got the pulled pork and he said it was just okay, wouldn't get it again. Very dissappointed in the Brisket dinner. Flavor was good, but serving size was very poor. Sides came in nice size glass dishes. Brisket served in the smallest paper tray you can imagine. Being in a paper tray made it difficult to trim the fat which was about 50% of the brisket. I probably got 5 decent bites of brisket. One of the 3 small slice served was completely an end cut of fat. Went to dinner here for a date night and was very happy with our experience. Their health and safety precautions are all employees wear masks, the hostess is behind a clear plastic "wall". Everyone wears a mask to sit down and the tables have ample space between them. Plus they have out door seating right in front and up on the roof. I got the pulled pork with the vinegar style bbq. I asked for the sauce on the side and they said it's already mixed. I wasn't a fan of that. The bbq sauce has an almost sour taste to it which I'm not a huge fan of but I did eat my entire portion of pulled pork. There seasonal veggie sides are always amazing. Fenton Fire Hall is a very unique restaurant, and it was an essential for the beginning of Fenton's downtown renovation. The food is great, the service is good, it has a great atmosphere. Really impressed with my first visit. The fried pickles hit the spot and filled a craving I'd had for awhile. Visited a couple months ago and the meals were good. Margherita pizza then was good. Based on that, this visit we tried the 3-meat and it was bland and tough. Almost zero sauce. But as simple as a kids meal is, the chicken tenders were NOT tender. My 11 year old grandson tried the first one and could not bite through or chew. I thought maybe it was him, but tried the other end. Tough, stringy and awful. Tried the second - just as bad. So his dinner was only the fries that came with it - they were good. Half chicken for $23 was ok, but Sams Club $5 rotisserie chicken is better than this. And the coleslaw was awful. For $50 total will be the worst and partially inedible meal I ever purchased. Did call to let them know, got left on ignore - so we share the experience here. Ordered appetizer - artichoke dip with homemade bread. Came out and it was wonder bread toast. Ordered a gin & tonic with "fresh" squeezed lemon/lime and it was clearly the bottled lemon juice from a grocery store. the waiter was a rockstar, but this place sucked, in my opinion. From there took almost a half hour to get our order placed because nobody ever came by. When we got our orders, it was all cold. The sides were all wrong. The kid meal was burned beyond being edible. The not so good: We sat at the bar in the basement on a saturday night around 5pm because it was an hour wait for a table. Prefacing that we were perfectly content and expecting our orders and drinks to be a delayed because of covid, staffing, weekend, and we were sat at the bar. It took us about 30 mins to get our order in which was completely understandable. We ordered the half chicken and brisket. After an hour, we were told they didn't have brisket anymore so we ordered the ribs to replace it and an order of fried pickles to hold us over after all that time. After another 30 mins we were both served ribs, so we had to wait another 20ish for the half chicken. Our sides were the mac and cheese and beans. The beans were probably 2/3 sauce. The fried pickles never came out but luckily we got the half chicken comped and a free dessert. The pickles were still on our tab so we had to wait to flag the bartender down to get it off. In total we spent almost 3.5 hours there which wasn't ideal. I probably wouldn't come back on a weekend. read more

I would never wait an hour or more for any if the Union Joints restaurants. The food is great - but not the most amazing thing ive ever eaten. First time at Fire Hall and we got seats right at the bar. Service was great. Chili verde - delicious but not very hot. Brussel sprout "salad" - I knew this was served hot when I ordered it, but you cant call this a salad. Holy walnuts batman! The pic I attached was AFTER I dumped all the walnuts off the top. You could literally see nothing but nuts! Delicious flavor but soooo rich! Not the crunchy, satisfying brussel salad taste. Would not get again. Korean pork tacos - good but a greasy. My fiancé and I went there for dinner tonight. We were immediately greeted by the hostess (she may have also been the bartender, I wasn't paying attention). She sat us and we enjoyed the menu variety. Fresh made pizzas are assembled in view of the dining area. We got the Pucker Up Earl and Think Like A Cactus drinks. Both were excellent. We started with the fried pickle spears. So good. Crispy outside, hot inside. Perfectly cooked with a yummy Mayo sauce on the side. I got the Mac and cheese, fiancé got the Caesar salad with smoked chicken. My Mac and cheese came out with a crispy topping, as the menu says. Fiancés salad was huge and so good. Dressing is delicious! Now the service was great! Destinee did an amazing job taking care of us. She's attentive and great at what she does. We appreciate how hard she works. The ambiance is cool. Being an old fire station, this two-story building has both indoor and outdoor seating. In the winter they have igloos on their patios for groups. Very cool. It looks like they could have the doors open in the summer for a more open concept and nice summer breeze. We greatly enjoyed our experience and will be back some time when we're back in the area. We will likely try the artichoke and fennel dip, as I've heard that is very good as well. With new drinks on special regularly, it's hard to go wrong with the Fenton Fire Hall. read more

The service is good, but the food has gone downhill. The fish and chips smelled like the fish was on its last day. It was so gross to have to smell that while I was eating my chicken Caesar salad. The chicken Caesar salad was less than ok. Had to drench it with extra dressing to cover up the weird chicken taste. They still advertise as cooking in a wood fire grill, but I don't think that's the case because it looks like the wood fire grill looks to be covered up with brick now. 2 other people in our group said the Korean fish tacos were not good, but the hunter burger was great. read more

Met up with some family on a Monday, right at opening- 4 pm. Our waiter was knowledgable & friendly, made us feel comfortable. Our food was good- I wouldn't say any of it was something I would HAVE to have again. I had the fish tacos, which were decent, fries were a little soggy. I felt like portion size was pretty large for the tacos, but my husband got the pork shoulder & it took him two seconds to eat. The venue, a refurbished fire-house, is obviously pretty cool. It looked like there was a rooftop eating area, too. It seemed well-kept- it was really open & had great natural light. One of my family members commented on how there seemed to be a lot of staff standing around doing nothing-- which was true. There were 3 girls hanging out at the hostess stand, a few people hanging out near the bar...when we went to the bathroom, we had to weave through several employees...and no-one said anything when we left. It's seemed like a lot of the employees were wearing whatever they wanted, including see-through leggings. It just seemed a little bit unprofessional to me. Being a healthy eater I have become more used to 15 dollar salads. When you order a large salad and they charge you 95 cents for an extra dressing that is a cry for help. Hopefully they use the dollar to replace the light bulb in the bathroom and repair the toilet so it flushes. Don't think I'll be back. read more

I've never been to any of the sister restaurants, even though they are closer to me than this one. After visiting here on the way home from Frankenmuth, you better believe I'm going to try them all. The service we received from Rose was excellent. The place was packed and she still made us feel like we were her only table. Having never been, we asked a lot of questions and she was very helpful. We started with an appetizer which I wasn't crazy about. We got the flatbread and honestly it was way to doughy and well, not flat. I'd either order a different one or skip it all together because it's not needed. The portion sizes are huge! I went with the sausage - they have a house made sausage that changes daily. It was jalapeno cheddar and it was amazing. I also got a hot link. My sides were mac and cheese (of course) and cole slaw. The cole slaw was on the sweet side but not overly so....very creamy. The mac and cheese was great with that delicious crisp browned cheese layer on top. With my meal I got two unexpected things.....a delicious bun and an extra piece of sausage. The waitress said the tip broke off the end of the jalapeno piece and she felt bad. Honestly the two pieces were plenty but I never turn down a good sausage..err...well...you know what I mean. My husband had the banh mi and it looked amazing. I had to sneak a taste...wow, great flavor combo. And the fries were perfect and plentiful. We didn't drink on this visit but the beer list was extensive with plenty of Michigan brews on draft. Bonus...they also had zombie killer by B Nekter...delish. We also didn't have dessert but will def save room next time. The building was really fun and unique....this was an active firehouse until the 90's. I am a fan of this group's other restaurants and decided it was time to try this place. I honestly just went in to get ice cream, but then I saw they had Korean tacos on their menu I decided to give in. The meat portions on the tacos were extremely generous and I was pretty satisfied with the flavor. The French fries were nice and crispy, but I thought they were a little too salty. The highlight of the meal was the ice cream. I am not a mint ice cream person, but this ice cream was special. I think they used very fresh mint leaves which made the taste very clean and surprisingly refreshing. I could have had an entire bowl. In fact, my only gripe with the ice cream was that the portion was small. Along with the food, I found the staff to be very friendly and attentive. Also, I really appreciated the open space concept of the restaurant. You can tell that it is owned by the same people who own the Vinsetta Garage. I went around 4 o'clock, so it was pretty dead, but I can imagine this place does great business. It was worth the trip and I will definitely try to go back. read more

Fun fact: this place is the reason that I moved to Fenton! Seriously! My fiance and I were checking out various suburbs of Flint last summer and stopped here for lunch since they served craft beer samplers, and that's when I knew that Fenton would be our home! On that day, I ordered the chop salad which has the world's best cornbread croutons, and he ordered the house made links sampler of 2. Of course I made him get the "most macked" mac n cheese as a side, which is what made the Union Joints famous. It did not disappoint. The slaw is also great and fun since it's made with purple cabbage. After lunch, we went out back to the Pumphouse, their liquid nitrogen based frozen custard shoppe! We got the Faygo orange creamsicle flavor and got a Faygo Red Pop to wash it down! They have classic flavors alongside gourmet foodie flavors, including a coconut milk based flavor with thai lemongrass. On our more recent visit, I tried the mahi mahi special with risotto and it was to die for; even the grilled zucchini spears were perfect. My fiance got the ribs this time, and they were soooo good they made me miss meat. This place will continue to be a favorite forever and always, as long as I live in Fenton. read more

I came here with a friend last week and we opted to sit in one of the outside igloos. It was my first time here, and it was a bit cold, so I am unsure why we decided to sit outside... however, there was a small space heater in the unit. I ordered the carolina burger, which had pulled pork on top of the burger. It was awesome, the only thing i wish was that it had just a bit more sauce on it, it was a bit dry. Our server wasn't as attentive as I would have liked, and it took a while for him to first appear at our table and get us drink menu's. But overall it was a decent experience and had good food. I smelled the smoky barbecue flavors well before arriving and appreciated the beacon that it provided. The restaurant is quite spacious, something to be expected given that it once likely housed multiple fire engines. Seated by the garage doors, I liked the view of the small town as well as the outdoor, distressed wood sitting area. The menu focused on meats smoked on green hickory and grilled on cherry oak: smoked chicken, sausages, brisket and ribs, as well as burgers and chili. There were several interesting items including, fried jalapeños, Korean chicken wings, Swedish meatballs, and a banh mi-flavored burger. Yes, some tough choices would have to be made. I went with the brisket, half of which was marbled and therefore, incredibly tender, while the rest was a tad dry. Unfortunately, the brisket was under-seasoned and definitely benefited from the available barbecue sauces. The Tennessee was on the sweeter side and was my preferred choice among the tangy, mustard-based Carolina and chunky Texas sauces. The brisket was accompanied by fries and coleslaw. Similar to its sister, Union Woodshop, the sides also shine here. The fries were crispy and tender. I loved the vinegary purple cabbage coleslaw. The Union Mac and Cheese featured a creamy, sharp cheddar béchamel sauce with a crunchy topping. It was oh-so good. I can see why there are several variants available as entrées. One of them will definitely be on my list during the next visit. And the cornbread stuffing included apple chunks, onions, and bits of hot link. There was an abundance of choice for dessert, as well. Hmmm... orange tres leches cake, espresso cake, or pumpkin custard with gingersnaps. After much consideration, I settled on and enjoyed a small rectangle of buttermilk custard (chess) pie with sweet, macerated pears, lightly whipped white chocolate cream, and tart raspberry coulis. Service was courteous and attentive. From start to finish, everyone provided a warm welcome. I decided to meet a friend here as the half way point for our date. It took me a minute to find it as I had never been here before. It sits in the middle of town. The story is that it is actually a converted fire hall. Pretty cool. Parking wss ample either in the back or on the street. I entered through the rear door and found that you had to go upstairs via the stairs or the elevator. I opted for the stairs. It has a bar in the front and various set of seating. It also had garage doors that were part of the front entrance. It was for those fire engines back in the day. My date already had a seat so no waiting for me. we had flat bread that was pretty tasty. The wait staff was also friendly. I plan on visiting again one day when I happen to be up this way. read more
