This is the first time we ate here but not the first time we came to the restaurant. We have been coming to Santa Barbara for 15 years. Several years ago we had tried to just walk in around 5 pm during the week and were told we had to wait 25 minutes for a table while looking at an empty restaurant. We promptly walked away. This time we made a reservation. Same scene with empty tables but were seated immediately. I had the eggs for an appetizer and Trout for my main dish. The eggs were rather bland but the trout was cooked well. It was moist and tasty. In a twist of fate, the couple who were sat down next to us complained to the manager that the hostess was rude and told them they would have to wait to be seated, despite the empty tables all over the place. I guess it is there way, since I never heard the manager actually apologize but only say the hostess was concerned they were upset and he wanted to make sure they were happy. No offer for a drink, appetizer etc. We ate and left with the place still half empty. The food is OK and high priced, normal for Santa Barbara. I would definitely not go there again. It is definitely a try it once place. I stand by my review before, just walk a few more steps to some place else. Too many choices in the SB area. read more

Stayed at the hotel and had most of our meals there. First I have to say that the service is FANTASTIC! From the moment you walk in until your seated the servers are extremely attentive and friendly. We were there with our 2 year old and she was acknowledged and was made to feel very comfortable. That's extremely important to us that she's made to feel welcomed just as the adults are which was very apparent here. The waiter also suggested plates that were spot on and delicious! I know other reviewers already mentioned it, but I have to mention it again since the scallops are amazing! They need to have there own review! They were cooked perfectly and were paired with a horseradish vinaigrette. They only thing I wish was that there were more of these yummy little guys! 4 is great but 5 would be better. Pork chop was equally as delicious and were paired with a very delicious compote and a butternut squash mash. Kids menu looked good but your better off ordering the appetizer portions instead of the kids menu. I asked the waiter if the Mac and Cheese was "real cheese" and he said it was velveta type cheese. For my foodie 2 year old that would not cut it. He did mention that if I ordered the appetizer Mac and Cheese it would be actual aged cheese. This to us sounds like the better choice and our little one agreed. We did also try the deviled eggs as a starter but personally for us they didn't work. This is something we wanted to try but unless you Love eggs I'm sure there is something else you can try. Of course since they have impeccable service we were offered desert on the house since they knew we were celebrating! We chose the lavender honey Crème brûlée and it did not disappoint. Overall the service, food, and drinks are impeccable. If your visiting Santa Barbara I suggest you eat there for at least one meal. read more

The stone fruit and ricotta flatbread has hardly any of either. The fruit is finely diced and used sparingly. There were mostly carmelized onions on the bread. Tons of argula but only a few sprinkles of ricotta were the topping. And the price for so little of the main ingredients was high. read more

I have probably been here 10 times or so, and it is always consistent. The service is good and the environment is fantastic. There are plenty of staff willing to help and looking forward to making your experience better. The food is always good also. One tip for the food is that the main dishes are a little expensive and aren't really much bigger or more tasty than the smaller plates. If you'll only be satisfied be a nice piece of meat of some sort, a main dish is the way to go I suppose. But, if you are looking for a very good meal at a good price, I would recommend splitting a couple of the smaller plates with the people at your table. My personal favorites are the mushroom flatbread, field greens, mac & cheese, and roasted cauliflower. I am not sure why I call them smaller plates as they are all a healthy portion, and very high quality dishes. :) It's also nice to make it in for happy hour during the week! read more

3.5 stars. We made a brunch reservation and I came hungry. Our server was nice and attentive. The decor was traditional, but it matched the ambiance of the hotel (which we love.) I was disappointed that I could not get the Ricotta pancakes on the everyday breakfast menu. No pancakes on the brunch menu at all. We started with the deviled eggs. I am not a deviled egg connoisseur, but my husband is and he enjoyed them. I thought they had the right amount of smoke and tang. For my meal, I ordered the two eggs, home fries, toast and bacon. It was a large portion but everything was really basic. I mean, it was a basic choice, but the eggs were watery and bland. The bacon was thick and crisp and the jam for the toast was lovely. My fella ordered the huevos rancheros and said it was decent considering we were not at a Mexican style restaurant. Overall, there are better restaurants for brunch in the area. I dined at Finch & Fork three nights ago when my parents were in town. Overall it was one of my best dining experiences, possibly ever. Now I work at Outpost in Goleta another Kimpton property, so got a bit of special treatment, but as for quality of food and service, I was blown away. Flatbreads are great, fresh and quality ingredients. We had pickles, and deviled eggs which were stellar, as were the chicken wings. Finally the scallops and ribs were two of the best entrees I've ever had. Also not to forget the onion soup which was on point. However we were too full for desert, which was a good thing. Beautiful space and really amazing breakfast. I had the lemon ricotta pancakes which were really light and airy with fresh blueberries. My wife had the braised short ribs with eggs and sweet potato hash. It was delicious without feeling overly heavy for breakfast. This is one of those situations where I don't understand the ratings. But it could simply be that the service was just bad. Nearly 10 minutes went by without anyone so much as making eye contact. We has to ask someone to find our server. And then....how does one hire a human being utterly devoid of personality as a server? Not to mention one slow and incapable of completing more than one task as a time? I'd watch him go to a table, go to the computer. Go back to the same table, back to the server station, and get a fork for them. Then ask if they needed water- back to the server station. Back to the table. Chat. Then he'd move to the next table and complete the same cycle. Each table took a least two trips. It was painful to watch. I had my credit card ready before he even brought the bill- I figured it would be 15 minutes for me to get it once I asked. My cream of onion soup should've been called " thick cream of cream" with a little onion flavor. No onions in it at all. There was an au jus on top- I assume to provide some acid counter-balance- but it had no flavor to speak of. It was just a big bowl of creamy, tasteless goo. It was topped with semi-sweet crumbles that tasted as though they belonged on a muffin. The only way I got through it was to throw in croutons from my husband's salad. Which, by the way, was the most bland Caesar he'd ever had. And don't call something an asparagus salad if the least prominent ingredient is asparagus. Call it a frise salad topped with a few chucks of asparagus and egg. (With radishes? Oh, but why?) The saving grace was the duck. Which was cooked to perfection and nicely seasoned. It was nicely decorated and clean. Ambience would have been nice if the service wasn't frustrating. They should call this place the Finch and Fizzle. It's all trend and not much else. I hate to be this critical but it was all lackluster and I wouldn't have any reason to return. read more

We first walk into the restarauant and it's beautiful, cute and hip! The waiter was very nice and helpful with the menu. We started off with Mac n cheese, roasted cauliflower, chicken wings, and shushito pepper. Everything was delicious; there was not a morsel of food left on any of the plates. For our entrees we shared the Sea bass, the ribeye, the pork ribs, the kale and chicken salad, and the wild mushroom flatbread, everything was truly amazing!! Went there for a brunch on Sunday. We ordered scrambled eggs and ham for our 2 y/o son for $8. The plate looked rather sad... just scrambled eggs (not very good) and a large piece of ham. Some fruit on the plate would have liven it up a lot. We were worried about our food, but then I tasted the ham, and realized it was a good quality ham. My food (pork belly eggs benedict) arrived and I was happy with my food. Delicious! I gave my wife half of my food, and she was happy with it as well. My wife ordered fried chicken sandwich. It was huge. She said she was not hungry after eating half of my food and will give me the sandwich after one bite. After one bite, she just kept eating and eating. I have never seen her eat that much before. She gave me about a half of remaining sandwich... and I understood. It was the best fried chicken sandwich ever. Good quality chicken, deep fried with crispy coating, perfectly balanced with pickles, cole slaw and honey dijion. I live in L.A. and even as I am writing this, I want to drive 2 hours just for that sandwich. Oh, service was great too. read more

Visited Finch & Fork for lunch yesterday and I have to say, we were pretty disappointed. We had read such great reviews but the lack of service during lunch was unacceptable. We sat down, took about 20 mins for the sever to come over to us. She then took our order for drinks and when they came out, she had brought the wrong beer. We then put in our food and the food came out before she had even brought out the right drinks (over 15 mins). We had pretty much finished our food before the correct beer came out. Overall it was a great atmosphere and a cute restaurant but the service needs some work and that is the reason I will not be back. read more

We had the butternut squash soup and grilled cheese sandwich--ordinary food but prepared in an out-of-the-ordinary style (jack cheese, spinach and fire-roasted peppers on sourdough bread--very tasty).
