So first of all, like most people, I was dreading my car buying experience. This week we did the thing most people dread. We stepped onto a car dealership lot. Luckily Bobby Tarafdar intercepted us and helped us research the CRV that we were interested in test driving. We chose to visit he lot late a night so a car sale wouldn't happen (though he would have stayed late to make a deal, I'm certain!, He actually said, "Don't worry if it's gone we'll find you another one."). Bobby is all information and no sales pressure. Even though he was off work for the next two days he gave us his contact information and encouraged us to call him if we wanted to come back. We were pretty certain what we wanted and how much we wanted to spend. The next day I texted him that we wanted to come back @ 6pm and look at another color. He made arrangements to have it ready and met us at 6pm. Turns out I liked the other color. We came prepared with information on what we wanted to spend at a fair price. Worst ever. Bought a new battery with a 5 year warranty, battery failed, took battery to Honda, they told me to tow the car with the battery inside it. Oh and they couldn't do anything for 4 days. Just purchased a new car from First Honda. Not my first but definitely one of the worst experiences I have had there. The game playing, negotiating, lack of knowledge of the cars and inexperienced sales staff is concerning. They treated me like it was the first car I have ever bought. Had to work with 6 different people and it amounted to a circus of a purchase. First Honda needs to realize the old way of doing business has changed. Treat customers well and you don't have to do a whole lot of selling. The tools out there these days has prepared buyers a lot more than in the past. Everyone has different circumstances when they walk through the door. I felt all they were concerned about was selling, selling, selling. I am still not sure they cared if I was content or if they were just concerned about pleasing themselves. Disappointing for a dealer I respected in the past, in a small town where word of mouth is huge. Went in to buy a car with cash. Sales rep Juan was very personable and answered most questions about the vehicle. The negotiation process did not go well with not much budge in price. After numerous requests in person and remotely to have them provide me a bottom line price, they still would only provide me with "we will be competitive with anyone else". Sales manager very impersonal. Never show up to a business/financial negotiation with a short sleeved shirt and tattoos running down your arm. He had no people skills and after a very short negotiation he walked off as if his time was wasted. Juan cleaned up after the sales manager and we left with at least being treated respectfully by the junior salesman. It's a shame because we were repeat customers who had previously purchased a vehicle from that location. Decided to go with another dealership. Advice to Sales Manager - never look unprofessional and treat customers well whether you get the sale or not because you never know who they'll talk to or if they may change their minds. I was trying to decide between two completely different cars (different makers from different dealerships). First of all, our salesman gets 5 stars, I will write a separate review for him. However, I think this is a problem that is consistent with all dealerships. They don't want to give you the "actual numbers" unless you say you are "willing to walk out with the keys." I was a serious buyer. I was getting one car or another, I just had to decide which one. Knowing the numbers was part of determining which car I selected. I was told that they didn't want to waste their time crunching numbers if I wasn't serious. I was serious, but knowing at least an approximation of the numbers was going to be part of my determining factor. I felt that was condescending. I went during labor day weekend, but there was no deal or incentives or anything. Maybe I needed to haggle or something, but just taking off $545 to round down the price, the numbers person sort of rolled his eyes, but agreed. I think that dealerships, in general, need to have an abbreviated way of giving you at least an approximation of what the numbers will be. Nearly everyone can get their credit score free, and using that number (with the caveat it may be slightly different with a hard credit check) would be fine. When making a HUGE, MAJOR purchase, who doesn't want to know exactly what the numbers are going to be? The really great financing deals of 0.9 were only for the base models of the car we were looking at, not the higher up models. A good thing I will probably never need another new car, because this was not fun. Regarding trade-ins, the competitor dealership asked what I wanted for my trade in, and agreed to what I had asked, the competitor even bumped it up another $500. Honda offered me first hardly anything, then reluctantly gave me 1/2 of what I had asked. Do they not realize it is actually a way of giving the customer an incentive? In the end, they gave me a few hundred off, but rather reluctantly. I guess it is good to know instead of a sale, or rebates, or great incentives, part of the money spent on my car is going toward the Helpful Honda people doing good things for others. But really, especial for a​ holiday event, why not give the actual customer some sort of incentive? read more
