Have been here twice and both times the service was awful. Half the party got their food while the other half waited an extra 20 minutes for theirs. Food came out cold, and the waitress did not come by and check on drinks or anything the entire time we sat there. This place has either excellent food and excellent service or mediocre food and mediocre, slow service. It's hit or miss, but worth the gamble when it's good! Everything is so eco friendly and fresh. Their artisan toast is always amazing, no matter what. I definitely recommend everyone try it. read more

Graded a 3 because food was a four and service was a 2. Hostess was not very friendly and seemed to have other things on her mind than helping us. They tried to sit my friend and I at a large dirty 6 top. We asked to be sat at the smaller somewhat clean table beside it instead. We ordered coffee a speciality drink. Got my coffee but we had to ask another server for the other drink. For food we got a breakfast sandwich and lemon pancakes to split. It was both delicious but no one checked on us so we had to ask yet again another server to get us the syrup. The other waiter even ended up bringing us our check; not sure how that works. Was not a fan of being able to see the servers hang out and chat while we are trying to get help. Willing to try another location for the food. read more

While the food is fresh and tasty here, the app and management are awful. If you have time to wait 45-60 minutes for the "10-15 wait (with 2 parties ahead of me)" the app promises, then you won't be disappointed. However, unless you are eating solo, your wait at the Waverly location will be 2-3x longer than the app reflects. It doesn't tell you that you won't be seated when there are 0 parties ahead if you. Who would expect that there would be a 20 minute wait at the Waverly location once we were "up" according to the app? Why would the management at Waverly have issues with the app (and blame the app) when the Matthews location doesn't? Since we are familiar with First Watch and using the app with other locations, we had an expectation that we would 'get in line' via the app and figure out if the wait time was in line with our stomachs' timing. I have been to this location solo, with my husband, as well as with my family of five and the results are only okay when being seated solo. I have gone to both the Waverly and the Matthews location and the Matthews location is by far better at 'guesstimating' wait times and meeting expectations. read more

First time here. Noticed it was very noisy. We were not greeted by anyone for a few awkward minutes. We had checked in on line and waited in the cramped, confused waiting area with the hot sun beating through the windows. Maybe waited 10 minutes. Ok. Manager asked to anyone who was listening "What do people expect when they walk in here?" We ordered Turkey Sausage Gravy and Biscuits, two eggs over easy, the potatoes and a side of toast. The other order was an Egg White Omelette with a side of Grits. That side of the table was fine. My eggs were served over hard and they forgot the toast. No problem except to wait 10 minutes for the toast and newly cooked eggs swimming in butter. Go to pay the bill and the cashier asked "How was every thing?" and when I said not good he said "27.98". I asked if he cared or was going to tell the manager. He turned to the manager and the manager asked what was wrong. I explained and he said " Well, we're busy." I thanked him and left. My wife and discussed while eating if we would return and we both agreed yes, until the flippant remark from the manager. $30+ bucks for breakfast at a place with attitude. No thanks. read more

Every time I come to this spot I'm pleased. Today Casey was our waiter and he also wowed us. He let us try the morning meditation and blueberry boost drink and they were so good. I plan to order one every time I come. The different flavors did a little dance in my mouth with every gulp. The place was packed but being on the waiting list helped a lot. The line moved quickly. The restaurant was clean, our food was absolutely delicious (as always) and we were in and out in no time. I ordered the egg white omelet, potatoes and toast...it was amazing! My husband ordered the trifecta with the granola banana crunch pancake, eggs and bacon and my daughter the French toast with turkey sausage and fruit. Both their plates were clean when we left. The food overall was very good but management must educate their staff that Gluten free bread is USELESS and not safe if your going to toast it in the same toaster as regular bread. Buy another.toaster for Gluten free bread only. Secondly, when a hair is found in a food than hair nets should be worn in the kitchen. I'll chalk it up to them being new but we had our food and then ordered a to go order that took over 30 minutes to get. Having a toddler with us made waiting that long difficult. When I pointed it out to the gentleman who cleared our table his reply was oh, yeah we staple the checks together. Horrendous wait with rude hosts and a dysfunctional reservation system, gotta knock a star off for that. Gotta knock a second star off because if anything on the menu comes with onions the cooks are somehow incapable of removing them, so if you don't like onions beware. My last visit here was so horrible I still can't believe I was at First Watch.. From an over 2 hour wait to listening to other customers WHO were seated and waited over and hour for food than to be served COLD food to boot... MAN what a horrible experience.. I than came home and wrote to them about the experience.. as of today almost 3 weeks later.. I HAVE HEARD NOTHING.. No email.... No phone call... No SNAIL mail even.. I was excited to try First Watch today for the first time. I'd heard good things and I was looking for a nice place to go eat with my friend. As far as customers go, she and I are very understanding in the restaurant world. I am a former restaurant manager and she is currently in restaurant management. So when our plates arrived, we didn't say anything about the avocado on her plate that looked like it was completely spoiled. She just moved it to the side and decided to not eat it. Then when she cut into her eggs Benedict BLT, the yoke in the eggs were completely cooked through. She asked our server for different eggs and instead did receive an entire replacement sandwich. The avocado on this one looked much better so we thought that was the end of it and were still happy. Then as I finished the other mediocre items on my plate I moved on to my toast. When I separated the slices there was half of USED crayon between the two halves of bread. As we had no children at our table that could have put it there, it was obvious that it came from the kitchen that way. A USED CRAYON in my food. I brought it to the server's attention who promptly took my plate. She returned a few minutes later with a 10 dollar gift card and said "My manager told me to give you this for next time". I did not receive any replacement on my toast which I paid for. At this point I asked our server to get her manager. When the manager came over I explained how upset I was that not only had we had multiple issues with our food but that I thought it was bad management for her to send the server over to deal with the issues. As I was speaking the manager continually interrupted me even after I asked over and over again not to be interrupted as I was speaking. The manager just continued to interrupt me and said she was dealing with an inspection and told the server to tell us that she would be over later. Then she proceeded to continue to throw her very young server under the bus and say that she never told the manager that there was more than one issue. When I explained that I did not feel it was the server's job to deal with multiple issues and that the manager again should have come and dealt with them, she continued to make excuses and interrupt me. I handed her the gift card back explaining that I would not be back again. The server herself was very good, and yes I tipped her 40% because I felt bad for her that she has to work under a manager that would rather blame her servers for everything instead of owning up to the fact that she had no intentions of coming to talk to us about our experience. Our server was not the one that ran our food to us to see that the BLT should have never been brought with a large portion of spoiled avocado to us. I will not be back again to this or any other First Watch location since it appears that they train their management to make excuses and blame everyone else. Again I never even got a replacement. I enjoy breakfast at many other restaurants in the area so I will stick with the ones that are considerate to their customers. read more

First Watch is very new to this area in Charlotte and WOW was it amazing!!! I ordered the seasoned potatoes-- so good!! They were soft with the perfect amount of crunch every once in a while. Also, I would 10/10 recommend the cheesy grits. They were creamy and cheesy and delicious. My sister ordered the million dollar bacon and it was yummy if you like a little sweet with your salty. My personal favorite of the bacon was the regular that my friend and I split-- so crunchy! The bacon originally came out a little soft but when we asked them to cook them longer they were very accommodating and made them exactly like we wanted it! Another friend who was with me ordered the chia seed pudding, so good and a dish I haven't seen anywhere else. Also don't forget about the waffle my friend also ordered, so great and came with fresh fluffy butter and a delicious fruit compote. Definitely go! read more

While waiting outside the tables were taking a long time to get cleaned, customers were stating the service is bad and taking forever, the coffee station inside the front door was empty with the trash overflowing. This is the second attempt at this restaurant....from the outside and inside, very cute, trendy.....food was terrible.....how can you screw eggs up? Mine were dried up and overdone, the potatoes were AWFUL - they were sooo SALTY and tasted like they were cooked in something, but couldn't put my finger on it...the "artisan" toast was this multigrain toast that had ZERO flavor and dry as a bone.... I called in for an order for pick up at 8:07. I ordered avocado toast and a fruit bowl. I was told the food would take 7 minutes. I drove there right away, as I live 5 minutes away from first watch. I was told my food wasn't ready when i got there and was asked to "wait around". I waited for over 40 minutes and all of the employees seemed to avoid looking at me as I looked around for help.
