There are lots of places to have breakfast/brunch/lunch in Dallas. Some are dives, some are drive thrus, some are fancy eclectic sit downs and then there are the chains. First Watch is a fancy chain with tight quality standards and training for the staff. The results is a tasty good meal each trip! It is easy to see and get into from NW HWY or Abrams. The parking is plentiful and there are some nearby stores to walk to, be it a 30 minute table wait or to walk off some of the calories after the meal. It is new with a bright modern kitchen interior. There are some outdoor seating on the East side, but I've never seen anyone out there as it is not much of a view. They can handle singles at the counter to large groups. On my last trip, the wait was about average during a Saturday mid-morning, 30 minutes. It gave us time to walk down to Academy and tour the shop before returning to a shorter wait. You see a wide variety of people if you are a people watcher. I ordered the BLT Benedict, Lemon Ricotta pancakes and enjoyed countless refills of a very refreshing unsweet iced tea and a plate of lemon slices as my food was prepared. When the entrée arrived, I was in heaven with some devilishly intoxicating flavors. I'm not normally a fan of arugula lettuce, but it with avocado cubes and Hollandaise sauce merged for a flavor that accented the eggs, tomatoes, bacon and toasted ciabatta bread. The whipped lemon Ricotta cheese and strawberries topped the gold browned pancakes quite nicely. The service wasn't good as it was painfully slow to get the food and even slower to pay and get on with my day. For the high price paid, it should have been faster service. read more

Tbh this was kind of trash. Food: took 45 minutes, my friends and I were hangry! I got the classic breakfast 2 eggs bacon and a waffle. The waffle was pretty good but it was kind of cold?? My friends said they food was cold too. Sad. Service: our waiter was really nice but our water or coffee was never refilled and we weren't really checked on. I like our waiter though and it was really busy so I guess there's that. Atmosphere: really cute brunch place! But long lines. Overall probably won't come back to this location. We went here for breakfast on Sunday, arriving early so it was not crowded. We were seated promptly and our order was taken after a short wait. Then the real waiting began. Although the restaurant had only 2-3 tables occupied, the food preparation took a very long time. A very, very long time. Food finally came, at which time we were told that the muffin of the day that we ordered for the toddler was not available. I am not sure why we were not informed immediately after the order was placed so we could substitute. I ordered the biscuits and gravy. The biscuits were not bad, but the gravy was horrible. I mean horrible, gross, disgusting. Don't they test recipes before putting them on the menu? Don't they taste test the gravy during preparation? The taste and flavor is simply unpleasant. One of the worst gravies I have ever had the displeasure to ingest. My eggs were not prepared the way I requested. So the only edible thing was the potatoes. AVOID THE GRAVY!!! My stomach staring hurting immediately and I felt ill for the rest of the morning. The wife's pancakes were ok but not as good as at the First Watch at Skillman and Walnut. Friday at 10:30am there were 15 EMPTY TABLES (that's drastically more empty than occupied) and everyone walking in is being told there is a 20 min wait, because staff can't keep up with to-orders. This is not how you run a business that is open for dining. She went with the avocado toast and I got the bacodo and cheese grits (which I asked a million questions about because all grits are NOT equal) with a side of butter. Our food came out rather quick and I must say, everything was delicious!! I don't know what they are putting on the mixed green salad, but bottle it up and send me home with it. It was light yet tasty and I'd probably eat more salads. The grits were okay - I could of shared it with everything else I had going on. The inlet was delicious - I didn't realize it would have avocado stuffed on the inside but it was a yummy surprise. And I've never had sour cream on my omelet but I'll be adding that now!!! The strawberry jelly was a nice touch to round out the sweetness I don't usually have (being diabetic). The bacon has a sweet savory going on with a kick of heat at the end. It's good but one slice was enough for me. Overall I enjoyed my meal here, only issue (if I had to call it that) is they kept trying to take plates off the table before I was done. I ordered the pumpkin pancake breakfast with scrambled eggs and sausage. Tiki hubby had biscuit and gravy breakfast we both asked for cheese on scrambled eggs. The eggs were light fluffy and cooked perfectly. A 5 not given for the poor slow service. Pumpkin pancake was delicious moist and flavorful. I really like First Watch when they were coming into the neighborhood and area and they did not have a whole lot of stores. They were a novelty that was unrivaled by most of the breakfast / lunch competition. They were also tightly managed and seem to really care about making an impression in the area. As they have grown and put location sometimes about a only a mile apart from each other something in their novelty has seemed to have gotten lost. Don't get me wrong most of them still have great service put the food seems to be taking the hardest hit. It is usually just okay now. I honestly think that there is some Back to Basics that this rapidly expanding chain needs to get back to. They are so set in growth mode that I fear it will ultimately damage their reputation if they do not rein it in a little bit tighter than they are doing so. And I think most of that reigning in needs to take place in the management ranks. read more
