Customer service is always excellent whenever I go in there and believe me I have gone enough times to know that they are consistent with it. Meh. I grew up going to First Watch and typically love it and their food. This location though is just meh all around. We went once shortly after it had opened and the service was scattered to non existent. There were food mess ups with our order and the manager chewed out the hostess in the middle of the dining room (I truly hate this type of situation. Handle your business off the floor and don't bring customers into it). We figured, hey, they just opened let's give it another chance and went back a month or so later only to find the service still was lacking- literally, where was the server??? And they served my kiddos milk that was sour There could be such a great market for this chain in Charlotte, but this one is not giving the best representation. One of my favorite places to go for breakfast or brunch. Visited this Matthews location today and was greeted by Emilee. My wife and I requested a booth and was quickly led to one with a smile. Emilee immediately asked what she could do for us; we requested coffee and while we reviewed the menu it was delivered. We asked what was the soup de jour , Emilee told us and stated it was her favorite. We gave her our orders. She checked back with us several times always with a smile. Once our meal was delivered she checked with us within a few minutes to ask about our meals . This young lady is a treasure. Friendly, knowledgable and very engaging!!! This place has become one of my go to's for a good breakfast. Love the staff, always accommodating and friendly. The food is good, for the most part. My favorite is their avocado toast. My kids absolutely love their waffles and bacon. Some things just don't live up to the description on the menu. One thing I don't like is how crowded it gets. A two hour wait for weekend brunch is pretty standard. But I guess it just speaks to how popular the place is. Oh, and I guess it would be nice if they had vegan coffee creamer. read more

We've eaten at several First Watch locations and though the quality of food as an organization seems to be going in the wrong direction l this location was by far the worst. Let's start with service (Friday May 27 @ 9:30) after a short wait our server took our order, that was the last we saw her. Not sure if she left or just went on a long break. The food was served about 10 minutes later. Eggs were undercooked and running. Toast was really warm bread. Either the toaster is broke or they are rushing the food out. About 10 minutes after we finished we had to flag another waiter down to get our check. Poor management!!! read more

This first watch definitely does not compare to our experience in Raleigh, NC . I'm not sure how long this location has been open but the service was scattered , our food came out cold, under seasoned , and left us shocked because it was a complete 360 from our initial experience , it was very busy so maybe that was a factor ? I respect the farm to table ingredients, the gluten free bread options ( more like a gluten free cracker) , and the little things like pure cane sugar at your table , warm syrup for your waffles, pancakes, or crepes , BUT they charge for every little thing here which adds up and to me what you get isn't balanced with the prices . I mean my 3 year old's bacon and eggs came out with runny eggs and burnt bacon , half of an overcooked waffle for $9 total because his one egg add on was $1.83. Reminder if you want coffee it's $3.00 per person , and they split the checks at the table adding taxes individually to every meal? Am I late in the service game ? What happened to one check one set of taxes for a party of 4? For a hour and 23 minute wait, we left desiring a more tantalizing brunch . read more

Had a great time with friends today for breakfast. The food and drinks were delicious, staff super friendly, clean waiting area and restrooms, prices are adorable and parking is sufficient. There is indoor (booths and tables) seating as well as outdoor tables. The place was packed today and we waited approximately 30-45 minutes for our table. First thing that impressed me was their coffee, it was flavorful and not watered down, they also have to food hazelnut and French vanilla creme. Now to the food it's good. We had the rainbow toast which has blackberries, blueberries, mango, and strawberries on toast, i's a meal within itself. Also had the healthy turkey which consist of an omelette with Turkey, thick multigrain toast and some strawberry preserves. First Watch popped up first and it took about 10 seconds for me to see that this was worth a shot. They were still open so I popped in the directions. Three minutes later, I was there. The hostess told me it was a 15 minute wait but offered the "bar" seating. This was a table that sat 10 people. I sat and waited a few minutes while perusing the menu. I was excited to be there. When the waitress arrived, I ordered water and the Chicken Chimichurri Hash. This was a limited time special and it quickly caught my eye. The ingredients were two cage-free eggs (had to be over medium), atop fresh, seasoned potatoes tossed in Chimichurri sauce with all-natural chicken breast, Monterey Jack, house-roasted onions and kale. The dish was served with whole grain artisan toast with all-natural preserves and fresh fruit. Let me tell you, my eggs were perfect and my bar mate, Angela, and I had the same dish so we discussed it while we ate. It was heavenly! The bread was fresh and delicious. The preserves were mouth watering and the fruit, well, it was freshly prepared and simply divine. I was elated to be in this restaurant to experience freshly prepared food. The taste of farm-to-table quickly grabbed me in and I will jump at the opportunity to visit this restaurant again. Beautiful decor and atmosphere. I went around 8:30 AM during the week and it was very quiet but had great music. I ordered one of the classic breakfasts with eggs, toast and jam, bacon and potatoes. When I asked to sub the eggs due to a food sensitivity there was no hesitation. The food came out hot and well seasoned. Grits were great! Bacon was nice and crispy as were the potatoes. This place has always been good since opening. They are always busy when we come but promptly try to get you seated. The best is you can download the app and get your place in line as you drive over. Just make sure you check in with the hostess stand when you do the online waiting. The food is "farm fresh" and has that light healthy appeal to it. This time we got the summer street corn hash. I did it without chorizo in it (they offer to put other meat but we are vegetarians). The kid got the kids French toast which she devoured. At the end of our time my mother and I got to the register where we were waiting for ANYONE to acknowledge us and come to the register so that we could pay after our server told us we had to go to the register to pay. After waiting behind a couple and their child for longer than we should've, one of the servers that was pretending like she didn't see us and was sweeping, closed out the family in front of us and brought two credit cards and made us wait longer while the table that was seated was able to pay after we had been waiting in line. I hope that makes sense. If not, no worries. I just wouldn't come back. My mom was considering bringing her senior citizen home here. She said, " no thanks!" Maybe I'll try another location? I have food allergies, particularly a severe gluten allergy and not only did we wait for an hour and a half to be seated, but we also waited another hour and a half to get my food. My food was brought THREE times with toast on top. After the third time of returning the plate and getting it back I decided to remove the toast and eat the food because I was hungry and feeling my blood sugar dropping by that point. Needless to say I was in bed sick for many days after that due to the gluten allergy. The staff is uninformed on food allergies and are in too much of a rush to properly take care of their customers. If you have food allergies, I WOULD NOT EAT THERE. If you're looking for a safe restaurant, Burton's Bar and Grille has been excellent in this department, very careful, staff is great and food is excellent! read more
