Service here needs a major overhaul. The manager is never present while allowing 13 year old hostesses to run the place. It just doesn't make sense. The wait is ridiculous right now but I think that's because this is the only breakfast spot in Matthews. I've been 4 times now and it's just been ok. The food has potential to be excellent but I don't think they have everything ironed out yet. They just don't accommodate the crowds well. We waited 2 hours last week which is pretty ridiculous but mostly due to the hostesses that didn't know what they were doing nor how to seat a large party. Just not impressed operationally. I will give them a break and try again in a few months maybe. Hopefully the Waverly location has a smoother open. read more

Our last time we sat for 7min without any one coming to even offer water - this was after we pulled a waitress aside to see if she could clean off a table. Looked very good she said where most waffles are heavy this one is light an fluffy . Our waitress brought the maple syrup which I tasted it was warm . I asked if it was homemade or bought local she said local but she didnt seem very sure of her answer but it was good I let her slide. I dont think she had ever meet a foodie lol They opened in Feb looked busy n I will go back . Now heres where I have to be very honest I was not impressed with our waitress no southern hospitality there an the cashier was the same. I hope that changes attitudes can kill an eatery . 1 Star for the only person working at the place. Took over an hour to get potatoes with an egg? We reserved a table and arrived with plenty of time left in the day before they wound down. At least 1.5 - 2hrs before they stopped serving. We ordered and eventually were served after an hour wait. Everyone was served except for my self...and that was 15 minutes AFTER everyone else at the table was served. We got cold food just before they closed. Bull shit service. We asked to talk to the manager and this guy made the server handle the issue when we asked to speak with him. The server Lilly went above and beyond to help us with the situation since she didn't have too much of a choice. She went back again and asked the manager to come see us, and struggled to even get him to make that effort. Apparently there was more than 1 complaint happening, taking his attention (nice excuse) and even then; that's not a good look for the place. When the guy finally circled around, he was smiling most of the time at us and didn't have much of a response other than "it was a good day until the end". Then had the server initially say they wouldn't make us pay for a couple things on the bill the first time she came to us. At the end of it I gave Lilly her tip since it was apparent she was the only one working and trying. We left since they were now closed. This morning I had the privilege to eat at First Watch Matthews. As always, their food was incredibly scrumptious and your body will thank you post-meal due to their (First Watch) using nutrient-dense/rich foods and quality oils such as extra virgin olive oil, unlike many "healthy" restaurants. My server was Emilee and she gave excellent service, being quick to make sure there was complete customer satisfaction throughout the entirety of my dining experience; it is rare to eat out in a restaurant where the server goes the extra mile and some as Emilee did! I would highly encourage anyone in the Charlotte area to come to First Watch in Matthews and make sure to request Emilee as your server and enjoy 6-star service and fresh food that your taste buds and body will be ecstatic over. Mom mother came in town to visit. I have been waiting to eat at First Watch for some time now. We decided to go. It was a Saturday and understandably, it was busy. We were out on the waiting list. I stood outside by the outdoor seating during the wait. A group had left their outside seating. 30 minute had past and the outside table was not cleaned. We were next in line and we asked to sit at the outside table that wasn't occupied nor cleared. The host advised we could sit outside and just needed to clear the table; totally understandable. We waited inside for 15 minutes; the outside table was not cleared. I watched the staff and they walked around aimlessly. They slowly cleared the tables inside without any haste, despite the line waiting. So this is up to 45 minutes of waiting now. We asked again for the table to be cleaned. Finally after another 5 minutes the table was cleared and we were seated. We were seated and another 15 minutes past without anyone handing us our menus, coffee, or water. As we waited I watched the inside host manning the register on her personal phone taking a personal call based on her body language. We had to go inside again and ask for a server and manager. Finally a waitress arrived saying she was a waitress and front manager while the official manager was in the back watching the kitchen. She was pleasant and listed to our concerns. The food was quick and enjoyable. The manager came out and spoke with us. We relayed the concerns. As we were speaking with the manager a the table behind us was being cleared by an employee slowly and clearly eavesdropping. She then completely stopped at what she was doing and stared at the manager with a blank face. As we we were eating a group of employees gathered around the register and gossiped rather than tending to the ever present line or the guests. We finished and paid. While paying, an employee took our receipt and asked the cashier why a percentage was taken from our bill; in front of us. I observed a gaggle of wait staff was laughing at the back in the kitchen laughing and not tending to anyone. I have worked in the food service industry as a bus boy as well as a waitress. I understand in this industry the pay isn't the greatest and the work is hard but this is where you cut your teeth in the real world. Despite the work you do, as a productive member of society, you should have some sort of work ethic and dignity to the work you do. The waitress/ manager and the actual manger were the only employees that conducted themselves accordingly. To be fair I did not witness the actions of the kitchen staff. With that said, The front of the house conducted themselves as lacking professionalism, they were lazy, and were the worst representatives of customer service I have witnessed in a long time.
