I'm pretty sure this is the best breakfast I've had in 30 years. I had their breakfast sandwich that has eggs, avocados, bacon and other delicious things. I also had to try their French toast. Normally a fan of this place but this morning I was extremely annoyed while waiting for someone to pay so I could put my name on waiting list. The staff allowed an older gentleman to skip everyone that was in line and put his name on waiting list in front of everyone else waiting. When it's a 30-45 minute wait, I don't want to be waiting for another table to eat in front of me when I been here before them and why the staff wouldn't have pointed out the obvious line they skipped. When I said something to staff, they made a joke about it and still put my name after his. I'm sure I was not the only person annoyed that the old mans rudeness and lack BJ of respect was rewarded by the clueless staff. read more

I've only been here once so I don't want to say that I'm an authority on First Watch, but my experience was so "meh" that it's hard to believe that there is something more ambitious under the surface that I'm missing. I came to first watch because I assumed it would be a nice, cheap alternative to the scourge of chains that plague the bleak landscape of Mequon's lunch-providing strip. I was right about the price, everything was pretty fair, maybe a couple dollars in order to not have to eat creepy factory chain food. The service was quick, polite and accommodating. The restaurant was just a big boxy place. Nothing very signature or individualistic about, just a big boxy room that has a totally cookie cutter dining room approach to it. If my memory serves me right there is a bit of expo to the kitchen and I think I saw tens of cans of oatmeal, which is telling. The aesthetic approach to First Watch is pretty befitting of restaurants in River Hills, which is to say its weird and almost misleading. For some reason almost every single sign/logo/whatever of every establishment looks like a tanning salon to me. For a region that can afford refinement and elegance, River Hills certainly isn't abundant in either when it comes to how things look. Anyways, the menu is big and has a health focus so that's kind of nice, but my dish was probably the least inspired thing on the planet. I forgot what the cutesy name of it was but for like $8 it was nothing but a bowl of sauteed mushrooms with some cheese on it. Blech. I dunno. I probably won't ever go back but I wasn't overwhelmingly offended by anything at First Watch either. Just another boring place to have breakfast/lunch. I've heard great things about this joint since they first opened, but don't get up to Mequon that often. We went here for Father's day and the place was presumably packed. The decor is like a modernized diner feel with enormous booths (perfect for my giant limbs and slight claustrophobia) and bright fruit-inspired paintings on the walls. The menu is immediately inciting with lots of healthy choices seen less often at other brunch places. My mom and I split the acapulco express with chorizo sausage, green chills, etc. and I had very high hopes but it delivered a bit dry and lacking of flavor. My dad ordered the monte cristo and it was heaven. Makes sense that the faja would get a solid meal on Father's Day. The food took much too long to get, but again, it was Father's Day so I'm hoping their service is usually much more prompt. All in all, I'd be back to try something else on the menu. Probably not an omelette. But happy to see all the healthy options. read more

I love this place. It was decribed to me by a co-worker as a lilttle bit nicer Panera. I would say that is an accurate description. I have been here 3 times and tried something different each time. I have loved every meal. They are full of yummy flavors and they dont skimp on anything. I have also had great, friendly service each visit. The menu is right up my alley with both healthy and yummy options and very affordable. There are a few items with avocado, and that is worth 5 stars to me. I am looking forward to someone opening up one on the south side so I can stop waiting forever for a table to eat brunch in Bayview. I've been here just once for a breakfast in which I paid more attention to the chit chat than the food--but still, I was pleased as pie. First Watch has a lot going for it: -Bright, casual, fairly inexpensive diner atmosphere, very welcome in hoity Mequon. -Nice menu of breakfast stuff. I love breakfast for lunch. They also serve some soups and salads. -They leave a full pitcher of coffee, tea, or water on the table. Yay! I'm surprised this annoys some Yelpers--I drink of lot of tea or coffee and hate looking around plaintively for the waiter when I need a refill. -You can get eggs and sausage with your pancake or waffle. It's probably just me, but I like a protein option with my carby pancakes. -Food's quite good! read more

Let me first off say I am not a breakfast fan.. but this place is the real deal for a local place. They have a big menu that caters to all types of people. Tons of healthy options, always have you leaving feeling better about yourself. The staff is great and really work hard to make any demand possible. I can eat eggs anytime and anywhere. Lucky for me, First Watch boasts a menu with a wide variety of "eggy" options. I often stop here for lunch. I am not a burgers and fries kind of girl so the idea of an egg crepe with fruit and breakfast potatoes makes me just short of giddy. My favorite is the Turkey Chive Crepe Eggs: A thin crepe layered with eggs, turkey, spinach, house-roasted onions and Monterey Jack. Topped with diced tomatoes, chives and hollandaise. Served with an English muffin. ($7.99). I order mine sans hollandaise but I'm sure it is delicious for those who like that. The plate is enough for two meals for me. To my delight, it tastes just as good reheated the next day. They are also happy to swap out the English muffin for fruit, if you prefer. The service is usually friendly and peppy. They also offer the Sun eClub that sends fantastic coupons and even a free birthday meal. With the high quality, good-tasting food, friendly service and reasonable prices they are sure to have a regular on their hands sooner than later. Other notes: This place is not the easiest to find unless you know what you are looking for. It is located in the Mequon Pavilion (strip mall) next to the Chancery. The parking lot entrance is very steep so slow down to avoid bottoming out your vehicle. Also, I originally did not visit because I thought it was a Christian bookstore; the facade does not scream out "restaurant" and I wasn't alone. My other friend thought it was a day care center. Much love for this restaurant. The owners have well trained staff and excellent food. Go for breakfast, brunch, or lunch -- you will not be disappointed. The menu is small but has a good variety. The food leans towards healthy but everything tastes good, fresh, and like it was made with love. The wait staff always seems rushed but it's because people love this place enough to visit often. Join their loyalty club for a coupon on your birthday, notices of special events, and notices of holiday related offers. This is a great place to take a friend, meet for coffee, or go alone for pancakes large enough to stand alone as the entree. Heed the warning -- as delicious as they are, you can only eat one! Nice staff but, is not your average breakfast place. Has more high-end breakfast food that is very pricey and has okay food. Not many options on the menu and small portions. If you want to have a good typical American breakfast I recommend going somewhere else since they do not have typical breakfast foods like hash browns. read more

This is the 3rd or 4th FW I have been to (from Columbus, OH to Here in WI and they are always perfect. Food is excellent with plenty of variety, no grease on the breakfast, and they leave a thermos of coffee on the table so you don't run out. Service here was perfect. Food was delivered right on time, hot, and delicious. Currently the restaurant is at about half capacity and it's 10:00 am Friday. read more

I have loved this place for years.....it was my "go to" regardless of what I was hungry for. I know Covid has hit businesses hard, and I hope that's not the issue here, but my last three visits have been horrible. I think maybe it was sold, because the quality has dropped substantially. My first bad experience my daughter had to leave without her lunch because it took 45 minutes to come to the table. The following times the foods quality wasn't what we were used to seeing.....forgotten sides, little or no dressing on the salad, wrong orders, stems and peel in avocado toast....just odd stuff. Some of the wait staff has remained but the seem to be hiring less personable people. I probably won't return. I hope they turn this around because we a going to miss it. read more

We walked in with a party of 10 (3 kids under 5!) at approximately 1:30 pm (closes at 230pm) on a Sunday. I have worked in the industry for 20 years, near half of which were spent in a breakfast atmosphere, so I was fighting back my guilt for even considering asking if they were able to accommodate our group. Out of necessity, I approached the hostess stand and I asked. The super smiley girl at the stand politely said that they would put together a table for us, not ever make me feel as though it was a burden or annoyance. I tried to assure her that we were in a bit of a hurry and would NOT keep them late. There was a young man who set up our table with the appropriate amount of silverware and got us started with waters, never missing a beat. 2 servers came to take care of our orders, it seemed like their procedure was that after one server took "x" amount of our orders, there other server ran it back to the kitchen, so as to get get the order started. It felt like within minutes of telling the servers our orders, the food began to be delivered to the table. Every one of us "grown ups" acknowledged how quickly it was. The 3 and 5 years olds never even had a chance to get restless. It was FABULOUS! Our food was hot and yummy! My 15 year old loved the Tomato Basil soup. I had a roast beef and havarti sandwich with lots of horseradish which definitely hit the spot! My husband would recommend the BLTE and grandma loved her lemon ricotta pancakes topped with fresh strawberries. The chocolate covering the kids' faces were a tell tale sign of their opinions of the food! :) Did not have the chance to try it but the French Toast looked amazing, with BIG ole THICK slices of bread and served with whipped butter!!! And pancakes as big as the plate they are served on!! Our server/s continued to be attentive and on top of it, but NOT pushy! My sister and brother in law ended up picking up the bill, so I insisted on leaving a tip. Unfortunately, I had no cash, so the gentleman up front was able to charge me for 1 cent, making it possible for me to leave a tip. For which I was grateful! 10 of us walked out of the door, bellies full, by 2:30 pm! I cannot tell you when, or IF i ever, i have witnessed such a "well oiled" system! Efficient and friendly. The best qualities (along with a smile), to find in good restaurants, servers, and employees overall. Kudos to you all! The ONLY suggestion I would make, is simply that appearance is important and the floors were very unkempt throughout the entire restaurant/restroom. A quick spot sweep makes ALL the difference. Service was friendly, although I had to request that they not place me (a single diner) at the "table near the kitchen." I laughed when the young host initially placed me there. So classic. I'm the kind of person that enjoys eggs benedict with my hollandaise, but I can certainly appreciate a healthy breakfast. I got the turkey and avocado benedict, and it was super good-- but limited on the hollandaise. I'm sure if you asked, they would give you more. Have been here a few times for lunch with co-workers and family. Their pancakes are good (though not mind-blowing), and their eggs benedict is fantastic. They also have a way with potatoes. Decor is up to date and the dining area is clean, well-lit, and well-maintained. My only gripe is that during busy times it can be hard to flag down a waitperson for a box or the check.
