Breakfast here was my daughter's choice and "spoiler alert" it's a big chain and it's gonna get a 5 star from this guy. I have no idea how I've missed this restaurant but I'm a fan! The first location was opened in Pacific Grove, California in 1983 by Ken Pendery and John Sullivan. The co-owners founded it after leaving the Le Peep breakfast chain in Colorado. In 1986, they moved their headquarters to Bradenton, FL. There's more than 430 First Watch restaurants in 28 states with 99 in FL,and they're growing fast. They specialize in being really good at breakfast, rather than being mediocre at all the meals of the day. They're only open for breakfast, lunch and brunch and the doors close at 2:30pm, period. BTW their name "first watch" aboard a ship starts a new day of work for the crew, makes sense. Anyway I'm liking this business model because the philosophy simply works. None of their locations have any deep fat fryers or heat lamps in its kitchens, and have an expansive menu that caters to almost anyone's taste. That includes those with food allergies, dietary restrictions, or special diets with good vegan and vegetarian options. They go above and beyond by listing every single ingredient for each menu item online so that diners can review their options ahead of time. I'm impressed with their use of cage-free eggs, and whole-grain breads and their in-house juices are hand squeezed and they make drinks with them that are spot on. Now, let's talk about our food here. The Farm Stand Breakfast Tacos, were excellent and the the Bacado Omelet was outstanding as well. The homefries are made with onions and fried nicely, and that's my jam. Don't pas up the opportunity to indulge in the Million Dollar Bacon (baked with brown sugar, cayenne pepper, and black pepper and topped with maple syrup) it is decadent, yum. They're famous for their French toast, on their exclusively made bread but maybe next time. I'm gonna run out if space but I could go on about his good the food is, and what I like about this place but it's obviously I like it! Meh, I'm going to say over promised, over priced, but under delivered. We came here for brunch on a Saturday. They were busy but by no means to capacity. They have some outdoor seating and the weather was beautiful that day, so we opted to sit outside. We both got coffee, they give your your own pot. They had like a bowl of assorted creamers, but low and behold only like two actual regular creamer lay among the flavored sugary offerings. No sorry I do not want my coffee to taste like a marshmallow. For the price some fresh cream would have been a lot better. Next the menu... Um like huge! For only being open for breakfast and lunch maybe you don't need so many items to be mediocre at? I mean there was the regular menu (huge) and the seasonal menu. Maybe, have a one page menu with a couple of specials? Hey who am I to give advice? I am only the customer who paid $40 for eggs benedict, a small pot of coffee, and one pancake. Yes one. To be fair it came with a small sausage patty and a couple of eggs, insert eye roll. This brings me to my next point the food. Oh yes all this pretentiousness will surely pay off once the food comes? And, nope. My smoked salmon eggs benedict was a tad sloppy and came with a (not exaggerating) wet salad. Not wet like overdressed, wet like waterlogged. Fun right? The benny was served on a ciabatta piece, one long piece, of bread. I found it added nothing to the dish. The smoked salmon was standard, if not slightly fishy tasting and I love fish. The hollandaise was kinda runny and didn't have that rich taste, but what was not runny at all was the eggs! Seriously overcooked for a poached egg that you expect to come oozing out all over the other ingredients and soak into the bread. I had none of that. I don't know maybe I ordered wrong, so hard to tell considering the menu size, but I don't see rushing back to this place. On a better note, my husband liked his pumpkin pancake a lot! But good thing they served that to him as he is one of the only people I know that like underdone pancakes. They were raw in the middle. 3 stars is generous. I went for brunch on a Sunday morning, and my boyfriend and I split the farmhouse hash bowl and the chorizo sunrise sandwich (a speciality item). The farmhouse hash bowl wasn't super interesting, but the bacon and potatoes were cooked well. The chorizo sandwich was ok, the bread was soft, and all the added sauces complimented the sandwich. So yummy! Nice breakfast, brunch and lunch spot. Why can't you open a location closer to me? It's not that bad of a drive, but I have to hit some serious highway to get to the place. Anyway, my daughter, Muff and I decided to go here for a meal that I didn't prepare (Those of who cook on a constant basis know exactly what I mean.). We both got the 2 for special. I got a half of a roast beef and havarti cheese sandwich and the Cobb salad. Muff got a half of the Monterey Club sandwich and the Sweet Honey Pecan salad. We also got an order if their potatoes and an additional salad of fresh greens with a fresh lemon dressing. I have to honestly say that the restaurant uses high quality ingredients and that each sandwich had enough extras (E.g. Roasted tomatoes and onions on the Roast Beef and Havarti sandwich) that you feel as though the kitchen actually cares about what goes into their food. Additionally, the portion sizes were more than enough to keep you coming back for more. I have when you get 2 for specials and the half size portions are only good for a swallow or two and you either order more food or go hungry until your next meal. That's definitely not the case with this restaurant. And the service was extremely pleasant and friendly. This visit I dove into the limited libations, and it's was a great idea! The Bloody Mary was served in a small glass bottle (a reusable vessel). One minor request "please double the size of the Bloody Mary" :-). It was awesome definitely worth the experimentation, this Bloody Mary is in my top 5 favorites! The service is consistently good, every First Watch location has the same challenge (always busy) so drinks, refills are slower than other less popular establishments. Probably not worth a special trip, in my opinion, but folks do seem to love it. Pros- very friendly service and a robust menu. The Bananas Foster French toast was also quite good. Cons- the service was super slow, including even just getting water. The coffee was lukewarm and you got the whole pot which was convenient but indicated no fresh refills. Omelette tasted unseasoned and had hardly any chorizo despite the name. The million dollar bacon was just okay, and was remarkably greasy for a spot that seemed to be headed in a healthier direction based on the menu. Honestly, I can't give the experience more stars, but the place was SOOO popular that I worry I caught them on an off day, so there's a chance I'd return. Im so glad I finally made it here! If you're looking for a great brunch spot, this is it! I met a friend for brunch today and as I'm pulling into the parking lot I can see a crowd of people waiting in the entry way. Note to self - use The Waitlist feature through wait! We were told the wait was around 45 minutes. I'd say we waited closer to an hour, but you'll see why! Once we were seated (thankfully not too many people were behind us) it was so easy to feel at home and stay sipping your tea and chatting all afternoon. We never felt the least bit rushed. Our server greeted us promoted and immediately started us with coffee and tea. My favorite part about this place is they leave a little pot of coffee and hot water at your table for your connivence. I love my tea so it was great to have my own selection of tea bags and refills whenever I needed. The menu is much better than I excepted. For the healthy eaters you have plenty of options - and might I add good options! You'll see everything from traditional breakfasts to lemon ricotta pancakes and French toast with kiwi. Went in for breakfast. We were seated right away. Started with the coffee and it was very good and I am particular with my coffee. I ordered the million dollar bacon and it was really tasty. Usually candied bacon is very sweet but this was perfect. I had the inspired Italian omelette . The sausage was delicious and the omelette was delicious. The multigrain bread was the best I e had. My wife had the elevated egg sandwich and it was also out of this world. The potatoes were also great. The service was great and we were seated right away. Our meals were served within ten minutes and we were out of the restaurant within 40 minutes. All servers were wearing masks and they were practicing safety protocols.
