This review bums me out. We just wanted to go out for brunch. We weren't in any hurry and enjoying a lazy morning. But things went wrong the moment we arrived. I'll start with, Don't bother checking in online. It's like hitting the crosswalk sign in downtown New York, strictly for placebo effect. When we walked in, we were told "perfect timing, you're next" so we thought we were, you know, NEXT. But no, we watched for 10 minutes as others got sat. When we asked about it, we weren't given any other explanation (except "you're next" which we clearly weren't) as the manager turned around and sat TWO more tables!! I don't think "next" means what they think it means. It made no sense. At other restaurants, I've waited over an hour for a table but still gave them five-stars! Why? Because they communicated and set reasonable expectations. They didn't keep saying the word "next" while still seating people ahead of us!! Giving First Watch the benefit of the doubt, it's possible this "manager" (didn't get his name but he worked the morning of 21 March) was incapable of actually explaining how there's any difference in online check in and walking up in person. He said that they have two lists and that they take those in person before online checkins. Okay soooooo if walking up is when you actually get on the "active" list, again, what is the point of checking in online? Besides that, this guy would not take constructive criticism without being flippant. I'd want my customers to tell me when they've been told clearly one thing and then another thing happens! But HE actually did it too! I told him I didn't want to ruin his day and that we just didn't understand what was going on. He quipped back that he "certainly was going to have a nice day" so i hope he goes somewhere to eat when he gets off of work and they set him up for a nice day EXACTLY as he did ours. Oh and he brought us a kale drink "on the house" even though I didn't order or ask for anything. My husband said it was an olive branch but then they actually tried to CHARGE us for it!! It was sitting completely untouched in the middle of our table, as was most of my mediocre breakfast. We should have just walked out as soon as he stared blowing us off about the whole "next" thing. Bottom line: online check in was a waste of time, the "manager" clearly isn't customer oriented, the service at nearly every First Watch I've been to is a crapshoot (although this time, it was good when we did finally got seated) and the food is meh, so just eat somewhere else, maybe Bisbee Breakfast Club or Sonoran Brunch Co.. even Denny's with a smile would have been better than this morning. Oh and as my husband was walking out, he overheard a woman walk-in and say that she had used the online reservation thing and they should've been seated within 45 minutes. We enjoyed brunch here this weekend. We went online and got our names on the waitlist, so they had a table for us as soon as we got there. I had the bacado omelette. It was a delicious omelette with lots of bacon, avocado, and cheese inside. It came with a side of spring greens dressed lightly with a lemon dressing. I asked for sourdough toast as a substitute for the whole grain toast. It took awhile, but I eventually got the right toast with a side of delicious jam. My husband ordered the parma skillet hash, which had Italian sausage, mushrooms, onions, tomatoes and cheese over potatoes and topped with two eggs. It came with a side of whole grain toast and jam. Cups of coffee rounded out the meal. Our server was very attentive to making sure we always had a pot of coffee at our table. It was early-ish, so we were seated right away which was nice given I had my elderly Dad with me. Staff was friendly and service was on point. I guess I am just not necessarily impressed with their food which came out luke warm. I had the Rustic frittata with a side of the cheese grits. My Dad had some sort of combo. It all looked great, but eating barely warm food is not what I am into. Taste was fine, but did not blow me away. Yes, I realize I am talking about breakfast but if I am going to pay a decent chunk of change for eggs and toast, I need a little something more than what I got here. Popular breakfast place from what I've been told so we decided to stop in. Perhaps I'm blessed with amazing breakfast places in LA as this was around the same level as a Denny's. I ordered a frittata and it arrived on the smaller sizes of portions (vs omelettes). The buttered ciabatta was fair and the dish itself was fairly void of flavor. The cubed potatoes were also on the bland side. All the tables were packed so I guess this is the best in town. read more

I love this place. Everything I've eaten here has been good, even weird things like the barbacoa breakfast burrito which was unexpectedly covered in a chile sauce. The bread they use to make toast is hand made and they slice it thick. The portion sizes are about right. I never have leftovers from here and I leave comfortably full. They have you pay up front, not with your server. I think I like that, but it is different. It's especially nice if you have a coupon because the cashiers know how to handle them. The servers are very friendly and all of them you pass while leaving wish you well. The only thing I've had that wasn't worth consuming was one of their "fresh pressed" juice blends. Mine came in a small glass chock full of ice. It was watery, overly ginger-y, and generally unpleasant. It was more than $5 too. They push these juices on everyone every time. Clearly the servers are required to ask. Stay away from those. I think the thing to do here is order something a little different, a little exotic, then you'll get the full experience. read more

From some of my previous visits: The Benedicts are super yummy. I am not a fan of the million dollar bacon, because I prefer crisp bacon. I ordered it previously and when my server saw that I did not eat more than the first taste, they offered me something else instead. First Watch is like the guy who suddenly starting eating really really healthy (like homemade smoothies and stuff) but is still chill enough to not shame you for ordering bacon with your pancakes. This restaurant prides itself in having a wide selection of organic, free-range, multi-grain, vegetarian, gluten-free (I think), dairy-free (I think), free trade (maybe?), non-blood diamond options. To give you an example, they have that "raw" sugar that tastes like they made sugar out of tree bark. I don't feel myself naturally drawn to a selection like this but my dad does, so...we find ourselves here often. And here's the thing: it's actually pretty dang good. The portion size always seems minimal but I've never left hungry. Their multigrain pancakes are actually huge and delightfully tasty. They have a lot of dishes with avocado, which still seems like a strange mushy green hand-grenade, but I'm growing towards liking it just because they always serve it well. Although this is technically a chain, you don't get that cheap, mass-produced corporate vibe from eating here. Service is always polite, friendly, and professional, and the setting is spacious and vintage. So hey, if you're the kind of person who eats avocado toast at home and drinks out of mason jars, you'll love this place. For me personally it's a solid 4.5, but I'll rate it a 5 for anyone who's living their healthiest life now. read more

I don't give too many five star reviews but this place was perfect. The atmosphere is lovely, music not too loud (and people not too loud either). I got an egg breakfast sandwich and the million dollar bacon. Both were absolutely delicious. The sandwich is probably the best egg sandwich I've ever tried and the bacon is for sure the best I've tried. It's sweet and salty perfection. The service was amazing as well. My server made sure to swing by a few times to make sure everything was good and dropped off the bill without seeming pushy. I will definitely be eating here again. But server we had could definitely have been more attentive and followed up on refills and let us know when our food would be out which he didn't do at all. The food is delicious with little twists that put it above the competition. We get excellent service every time. The inside is very clean which is important to my wife. The large specials menu was a bit deceiving since those weren't available until April but we were able to find other things on the menu that looks just as appetizing. I decided on the farmhouse hash. Perfectly seasoned potatoes, scrambled eggs (I ordered egg whites at no additional cost), avocado, tomatoes, and onions.
