I feel like I've said this very recently, but NYC is crushing Thai food lately. Fish Cheeks isn't new by any means, but it's new to me and I'm the only thing that matters. We were wandering by and hungry, and the nice hostess out front told us they could have a table ready in five minutes. We sat down in the airy, bright room, and an even more personable server found out it was our first time and told us all about the menu. She told us that the crab curry was excellent and their best seller, but she thought the Rawaaeng Duck Curry was equally delicious and more interesting, and that the Mussel Gorlae was a standout as well. We took her up on these recommendations, and added the somtum corn salad. Everything was stunningly presented, and so, so tasty. The duck curry was a combination of the leg confit and the seared breast nestled in the rich curry, and it was outstanding. The mussels were skewered lengthwise, grilled, brushed with a spicy glaze and finished with crispy shallots and a peanut dipping sauce. It was unlike anything I've had before in the best of ways. The corn salad was a fresh pop of color and heat, and the lime cut through the heaviness of the other dishes. All in all, an outstanding lunch that I would happily eat again anytime. read more

I was expecting a lot from this restaurant and it did NOT disappoint!! I went with a friend for dinner recently. This is what we ordered: Zabb Wings: 5 out of 5! Lemony, spicy, salty bites of flavor! Almost too spicy for me but not quite. Crab Fried Rice: 4.5 The perfect complement for the steamed fish. Delicious in its own right with the 2 sauces it is served with. Steamed Fish with Thai Herbs: 10 out of 5! Flavors that simply knock you out. The most delicious fish I've ever had. LITERALLY. The only complaint I have about this restaurant is by the end of our dinner, which was about 7:45 pm, the noise level was so loud my friend and I were literally shouting to have a conversation. After a few minutes I just couldn't take it anymore and we started looking around for our server to get the check and leave. In spite of this, looking into my future, I just can't image coming to New York City and NOT coming to this restaurant. I think I will just always have to come to this restaurant on any future trip. One of my favorite places to visit in New York. The best and absolutely tasty Thai food in the city. I try to come back every single trip. The food is always fresh, hot, and delicious. The flavors and the aroma of the food is just astounding. I really wish they had something similar in Florida, I would truly become a regular. I was greeted right away, and sat almost immediately which I mean , we love that right? For drinks of course I had to try the mocktails and oh my goodness the phony Negroni could have fooled me because it gave me a punch to the stomach haha. It was good in a weird way but not for me lol. I also tried the Coco bah, and yes I will definitely become a regular Coco bah drinker. Honestly anything coconut can never go wrong with me, so I had to get another . I tried the Zabb wings to start so flavorful my goodness, a perfect lemon pepper taste and fried to golden perfect. For my main entree I tried the steamed fish with Thai herbs honestly I'm not sure I can describe the perfection I tasted. Besides a perfect mixture of sweet, salty, and a hint of lime. It is mildly spiced topped with devious peppers and onions. I always pair this with the sticky rice, I love the sticky rice it's absolutely incredible. Fish Cheeks was one of the top restaurants I wanted to visit for a recent NY trip! I've seen it on so many lists and it was recommended by chef Kwame Onwuachi for Condé Nast Traveler. I made a reservation on Resy a month beforehand when the reservations dropped. I was on Resy right at 12pm EST and was able to snag a reservation for 2 at 7pm on a Friday. After refreshing, all the 6-7pm slots were gone. The food did not disappoint at all! They gave us some shrimp chips with a dip to start, it was delicious. Next, we got the crispy rice salad & pork. It was good but on the spicy side. For the mains, we got the steamed fish with Thai herbs and the coconut crab curry. Both were amazing and so flavorful. The fish is served whole and comes with an aromatic broth. It was so good but be careful with the bones! The crab curry was delicious, the curry had great depth of flavor and a good amount of crab. I was stuffed at the end of the meal. I also enjoyed the Tongue & Cheek cocktail. It was refreshing and sweet but not overly so. The decor was also cute. Hiked through the cold to Fish Cheeks at 4:30p on a Saturday with no reservation. Glad to score a table with the condition we were out by 5:15 because of upcoming dinner reservations. Got sat quickly, there is a decent amount of seating for a smaller establishment but tables sharing a booth bench are kind of snug next to each other. We ordered the corn salad, crispy rice salad with pork, and chicken wings. Corn salad was great and came out quickly. Crispy rice and chicken wings came out later; wings were some of the best I've had anywhere and weren't drenched in sauce. Incredibly crispy with a sweet and umami dusting. Crispy rice salad was good but a little salty, we actually got a side of jasmine rice to offset the saltiness. Such a yummy meal! We had a group of 4 and everything we had is a MUST ORDER! Here's what we got (and you should get too): Zabb Wings, Grilled Pork Cheeks, and Steamed Fish with Thai Herbs. The interior is dimly lit and cozy, making it a perfect spot for date night or group hangout. We ordered a bunch of dishes to share, and everything was amazing and packed with flavor. My friend and I wanted a place for dinner after a show and I wad really happy that I could book a 10:00 reservation for a Saturday night. There are fewer and fewer places where that's possible. We were seated around the corner from the bathroom but we were tucked into a nook that was quieter, and with comfortable seats (most of the other tables had different seating from ours). The waitress gave us a number of recommendations since we hadn't been before. For a starter we had a delicious, brightly coloured sweet corn and tomato salad. We both could have gone for another order of that! Our waitress suggested the crab curry, which we ordered. My friend loved that. I really liked the grilled mackerel, which was the whole fish. There were different textures and flavors on the plate that complimented the fish well. There's only one dessert so if you don't like coconut, you're out of luck. But we were too full for more. I don't mean to sound dramatic, but the food here is poetry. I came with my husband for our anniversary dinner, and each bite we took was punctuated by words of praise and appreciative nods. I heard this place was good, but I didn't know it was THAT good. We started with their raw shrimp appetizer which was incredible. The sharpness and spiciness of this dish will sober you up. It was incredibly fresh and nuanced. We also got complimentary shrimp crackers, which came with what I believe is a shrimp and tamarind paste. That dip is a REVELATION. I had never before thought to use tamarind and shrimp paste together in a dip! For the mains, we ordered the crab noodles, fried fish, and crab curry. All were incredible. The crab noodle had such a savory, sweet, umami flavor - I could really taste the celery and cilantro. The crab curry was so rich and spicy. The fried fish didn't taste fishy at all, sitting on a bed of tangy, sweet vinegar topped with herbs, cashews, and diced pineapple. Just as good as the last time I visited. I want to shoutout the hospitality from the host, server( did an excellent job at tour guiding my friend's allergy), to the runner. This time I got a few new things and was blown away. 1. Branzino and oldie but goodie. Sauce I practically drank from the dish. AMAZING 2. Pork belly was absolutely delicious 3. I took my cousin around Manhattan since she had not been back since 2008 and my first thought was to bring her to Fish Cheeks because I had such a great experience the first time. We made a reservation for 8 but arrived an hour early. Luckily, even on a packed Tuesday night, we were able to get seated right away. We ordered the Chefs Selection for Two, Selection 1, and it was more than enough. I was completely full but did not want to waste any food and brought some back to our hotel. After trying their sister restaurant in Bangkok Supper Club, it was inevitable that I had to try the food options here. Visiting the NoHo location, I initially booked as a party of two, but had to adjust my RSVP to three on short notice. Their email communication was prompt, and I felt a great first impression knowing the speediness of responding to resy changes for guests. Inside the venue itself, we lucked out by having a table by the windows so there was a bit more space. There's indoor and outdoor seating, but do know some of the tables inside can be fairly close (classic NYC dining!). The menu offers a diverse range of options, including a Chef's Selection list for two that's for $140. The dishes are served family style, and each were incredibly delicious. We had a party of three, and decided to split three dishes together. Our choices ironically ended up balancing out the flavors very well, as the saltiness of the pork cheeks just complemented the acidity in the branzino and spice of the curry. My favorite was the pork, but each dish wow'd me away. If I had to nitpick, it's that there's only one dessert item--but it was very delicious and a great finish to our meal. Service was also incredibly prompt, welcoming, and I could tell their effort shine as ours was training a new waitress at the time. Me and my friends decided to come here on a whim the other night. There was about a 45 minute wait for a table, but we were able to get notified via text when a table opened up. The space itself is very pretty with lots of dim lighting and wood accents. They are undergoing some renovations, so part of the restaurant was not usable, but when it opens back up, I'm sure it will be able to accommodate more people. The menu is quite seafood and fish forward, and our server did a great job of walking us through the menu. We ordered the somtum corn salad, the green curry, the steamed fish with Thai herbs, and the crab aob woonsen. Everything was delicious and had great flavor profiles, but the standouts were definitely the steamed fish and the green curry. Fish Cheeks has been on my radar for quite some time. It only took me some time to come here, man up, and eat something from here. This is not your run-of-the-mill Thai restaurant that serves up Pad Thai, Pad See Ew, and Drunken Noodle. This is upscale Thai cuisine, which I expect nothing less given it is located in the bougie neighborhood of NoHo, with a new location in Williamsburg, a similar neighborhood. What I liked, other than the food and its terrific location to the subway, is the genuineness of the servers. Cute, hardworking, intelligent, with quick turnaround times, that is all wonderful to expect from such a restaurant with high end food. Everything left me flabbergasted because I was not expecting the results I received. Yes, the portions are to be shared, and as a solo diner I certainly felt out of place (the servers asked me to bring someone here if I should return), but I have a saying for that. If you wait for people, you go nowhere. That applies to anything in life, but it really applies when you really want to do something but have no one else to enjoy it with. When my friend heard that I was a considerable fan of the Korean raw marinated crab, she said, "You've got to try this Thai place with their raw marinated crab!" Then I did, and it did not disappoint! Let me preface by saying that the flavor dimension is thoroughly different from the Korean one. This one has a heavy fish sauce-lime foundation and it is absolutely delicious. The best way for me to describe the depth of this flavor is it is very similar to the viral Thai 'crack' sauce. It is addicting. The crab meat was very tender, and it felt like it was quite literally melting in my mouth. The atmosphere of this restaurant was intimate and chill. The furniture was eccentric and colorful, it contrasted well with the semi-dark lit room. This place would be a perfect for a casual date night spot for sure. The staff was friendly and was able to get to us quick despite it being packed. We had a reservation so if you are planning to come on a weekend, go ahead and make a reservation to secure your spot. Happened to be in the area yesterday, and my friend wanted to put my foodie skills to the test. I suggested we try Fish Cheeks, since she was in the mood for something ethnic and flavorful. I have always wanted to come here, so this was the perfect opportunity! I was hesitant at first, being that we had a child with us, and didn't know if the options would suit his palatte. We were seated promptly, which was wonderful as we were extremely hungry! We ordered the coconut crab curry, a couple orders of chicken wings, and the mackerel. the child we were with devoured the wings and said it was "crunch, cool, and tastes real good!" We ate in between lunch and dinner service, and I know that's not looked upon as desirable, but it was a last minute reservation and the most enjoyable part of the meal was in between the crowds. The market oysters with fried shallot and nam jim sauce were the perfect way to start the meal. Is it yuck or does it bang?? All my friends have gone to this establishment. It keeps coming up. I was the only one who hadn't been there. I finally started to experience the FOMO so I had to find my way in there. It was happy hour and I love a good happy hour moment. Got some oysters. A day well spent is a day that ends on a satisfying note . A visit to the city is an event and you combine it with a meal at a restaurant like Fish cheeks it makes it well worth a double celebration. This place was highly recommended so our long walk from Eataly Flatiron to here was well worth the appetite we developed . It's a cozy place with intimate seating as your walk in with a bar in the middle and the kitchen at the back . There is an dining room adjacent to the bar offering decent seating for NYC standards . It's dimly lit clean and vibrant atmosphere. We were seated immediately though we had no reservation. The menu was inviting . I was tempted to order many things but asked for specials and popular choices . I got a mocktail Coco Bah which was a coconut milk based drink - not very sweet but very tasty We also ordered a cocktail Spicy mango which was exquisite For our meal we started with the Zabb Wings which had a kick to it and was crispy and tender Our entrees were the highlight of our meal Branzino filet simmering in a lip smacking broth emanating irresistible aroma of lemongrass galangal and fresh herbs Coconut Crab curry with white rice and Crab fried rice. Every morsel of the branzino with the broth was vibrant and irresistible. The crab curry and fried rice combination was a heartening comfort food. The curry was bursting with flavors of lemongrass and galangal , Creamy, slightly sweet from the coconut milk yet quite savory from the other spices , this curry with the delicately flavored fried rice took me LaLa land . I couldn't resist alternating between the branzino and the rice with curry . Made my own concoction blending all three together. This place is a riot waiting to happen. My husband and I were visiting from LA. I've had this place bookmarked for a while if we ever made it to NYC. This is easily one of the of the best Thai food restaurant that I have had. We ordered the zaab wings, steamed fish with Thai herbs, Thai tea, and a side of steamed rice. We love them crispiness, smokey, spicy, and sour seasonings on the wings. It's a flavor we were wondering why other places don't do. We also ordered the steamed fish with Thai herbs which was exceptional. The fish and herbs tasted fresh and citrusy. We devoured this dish with the rice. This was the perfect amount of food without being stuffed. I'm only giving four stars because the service was weird. We took a chance and walked in around 3ish. There were plenty of tables both inside and outside but we're not seated until another walk-in showed up. We noticed the group before us wasn't seated until we showed up.
